I’ve been trying to do the math on if Skubal might pitch against the Yankees and every day the math changes
I like that move. Short appearances probably suit him.
This is getting your playoff rotation + bullpen into place. Good idea to get him comfortable there now.
Trading for Verlander over Paddack would have been so much more fun
Good. This guy just needs to eat innings in blowouts to save the rest of the staff

Small sample size and all that but he’s not getting enough Ks and giving up way too many HRs to be valuable anywhere right now. Disappointing as he was at least serviceable for Minnesota with a 4.44 FIP in 111 innings. I guess maybe try to find spots for him to lean on his fastball, change up and slider instead of trying throw 5 pitches multiple times through the line up? But this seems like the move before the move of just not being on the roster.
And he might just be hitting a wall physically. This is now the most innings he’s ever thrown in the MLB and he hadn’t pitched much in 2022, 23, or 24 with all the injuries.
Not really sure he will be any better there, but not upset I won’t have to see another one of his starts.

He certainly wasn’t making the playoff roster as a starter, might as well see if his stuff plays up at all in the bullpen and determine if he’d have some value there.
I wonder if a combination Morton/Paddack “start” might work. Like have Charlie go 4 and Chris go 4, and then a closer.
This dude is a pile but maybe the bullpen is his calling.

I don’t even understand why this trade was made, Keider Montero could have given the Tigers 3-4 runs in 5 innings every 5th game and not costed a prospect.
And it’s not like it was just bad luck with Paddack falling off; he had a 4.95 ERA with the Twins too.
