Portland Trail Blazers 2025 Offseason: Scoot Henderson’s Team Now?

Hey everybody. So, we’re back with another NBA offseason grade. Today, we’ll be doing the Portland Trailblazers. Do they do good this off seasonason? Do they do bad? Are they not going to make the playoffs again this year? Or maybe they will. Let’s get started. First, major moves and player accusations. Drew Holiday added in trade traded uh Arf Simon as he Simon to the Celtics to bring in veteran stopper uh Drew Holiday expected to anchor their defense and provide leadership alongside the team’s young core. Uh Damian Lily returned on a three-year deal back in Drip City on a three-year $42 million deal with a 2027 28 player option and a no trade clause. Lillard is rehabbing his uh Chili’s injury and will miss much of this upcoming season. Drafted and acquired Yang Hess number 16th in this past draft uh made a surprising move to bring in a 7 foot1 center. Yang Hass from the CBA seen as a potential high upside developmental big nickname Chinese joker by scouts uh signed Blake Wesley a one-year deal added defensive depth and athleticism with Wesley on a one-year contract Scoot Henderson and Shaden Sharp future and focus despite their star potential both are under scrutiny. Uh Scoot is viewed by some as a trade candidate if his growth stalls while Sharp may receive a big extension soon or test free agency next summer. So let’s go over this. So um I like that Drew Holiday added um yes you get rid of Simon but you bring in a more defensive player which the Blazers do need defense on the team badly. Um, I’m not sure it’s really true. Drew Holly does not want to be in Portland. Uh, may just be, you know, the media. They always do all this stuff. Um, which I don’t know from the video seems pretty cool about being in Portland. He’s fine with it. But who knows? But I think Drew Holiday on the Blazers is a good move for them. Now, as for Damian Lillard, I was a little bit confused why they brought him back. Um, I think he may want to retire soon. maybe told Portland like, “Hey, I want to, you know, ride it out with you guys. I want to help your organization towards the end.” And end up signing a three-year deal, which I think he’ll retire when he’s 48. No, I bet not 48. Uh, when he’s 38. I think he’s 35 now or 34 now. But seems like Lillard’s last stop going to be in Portland. Um, but I’m not sure if he’s going to be playing this year. I mean, he seems like he’s going to be playing towards the end of the year. even if they make the playoffs, I think he maybe will play. Who sees? But I think Brand Dame Lillard is a good veteran player. Uh knows the franchise in and out. Um and I think he still has some, you know, some more in him. Uh drafted Yang H. I I saw a little bit about him, you know, more research. I like Yang. I think he potential to be a really good player. I’m not sure be an all-star player, but he has potential to maybe be a really good type of Naz Reed type of player on the bench. Six-man role, but maybe a starter. Who knows? Um, sign Blake Wesley, don’t know a whole lot about him. Good defense, good athletism. Yeah, that’s fine. Uh, as for Scoo Henderson and Shannon Sharp, I feel like Shady Sharp is going to be staying with Portland. I feel like he is growing. He’s doing much better. But I feel like Scrooge Henderson on the other hand is not really going to be staying with the organization that long if he did not step up this year. It’s been what? Two years since he been uh Yeah, two years since he been in the NBA, I think. And yeah, I don’t know what’s wrong with Scoop. Taco was trash. I want to be good. This and that. Everyone in the draft thinks I’m the best. Yada yada. And he’s still doing bad. Yeah, I don’t know. Uh now let’s move on to strategy and content. Well yeah uh offseason ranked 19th by the athletic. Despite capturing headlines with key moves analyst ranked Portland only 19th in the offseason impact calling attention to the risk and uncertain and uncertainty in their major addition uh innovative lineup potential. Blazers Edge highlighted an evolving lineup suggesting modern versatile combination expected to maximize defensive versatility which holiday sharp you know etc. Now let’s move on to the summary table. Boom. Drew Holiday trade as elite defense and experience. Damian Ler signing veteran leadership emotional return and uh you know injury uh Yankson acquisition high upside big for development. believe Wesley signing, athletic wing death, and last but not least, Scoot Henderson uh scoop and sharp outlook uh strategic uh evaluation of the young guard rotation. And yep, last but not least, final take. Portland 2025 offseason blends with veteran smarts with high ceiling promise. Holiday and Lil bring leadership and identity while Hassen and Sharp fuel a high upside rebuild. It’s an off seasonason defined by fate and versatility and future payoff, positioning the Blazers as a team worth watching closely in the Northwest. So, this offseason was pretty pretty, you know, a little interesting. Little interesting, nothing big like other teams been doing, but they made a little signing. You know, I like the Drew Holiday. Brand Drew Holiday need some defense. Veteran presence won the NBA Finals twice with the the Bucks and Celtics. Um, yeah, Damen Lillard knows the franchise in and out. Uh, you know, he definitely has a lot in him. So, if you hung back, help the team even more. Might be a playoff team if that’s the case. More likely, you know, we’ll get into that. We’ll get into that. Give me a second. Um, young guys coming in, um, still growing. They’re going to try and grow into this franchise. Uh, and then we’re just really not sure about the other guys on on the uh on the team. been been with the team what what two or three years maybe a little longer. Not sure how their future going to be with the with the organization, but I like the fact what the Blazers are doing. They’re not doing too much. They’re trying to somewhat looks like they’re reshaping the the roster, but they’re trying to add more veteran leadership on here. uh more experienced players to help you know the younger guys grow even better. Uh you know not the flashiest name. You can say Damian Lily and Drew Holidayiday is somewhat flashy but you know something that the franchise are doing somewhat good this off season compared to the other offseason that they had like signing DeAndre Aton which was bad. Uh but yeah guys so how would I grade their off season? Uh, I would say it’s not bad. Like, it’s really not horrible. Like, people are going to be like, “Oh, they’re an A. They didn’t really do a lot. You brought on Damian Lillard know the franchise. He’s not going to be like at home the whole time. It’s going to help the young guy. Not really going to play, but going to help. Drew Holiday good. Um, no, it’s good draft draft picks. Those look like some young good pieces on their off seasonason. I’ll give it a I’ll give it a D. Um cuz they see that’s kind of pushing it. Um I feel like D because you bring Drew Holiday so he replaced Simon. Damian Lillard is good. Um like the draft, but we’re not sure a whole lot about him yet. Um Blake Wesley solid. I do want to lean on C, but I have to stay a D. I just want to see more Scoot and Sharp. Um, not sure how Damian Lillard’s status of this year is coming up. Not sure when he’s going to play. Yang might be a mix, but we’re not sure if he’ll be a boomer. So, it’s it’s a D for now. Now, if Yang and Damian Lillard were like Dang was like really really good and Lily was like healthy, I think I would rank this a C plus B. Uh, I would have done that. I think B is kind of pushing as they see might be a little better. But yeah. Um, so now are they a playoff team or not or playing team? I’m going to say the West is really stacked. The tiny little coming back and the team cohesion. Um, I’m going to I’m going to say not making the playoff. Um, now if they all get get a mojo going, they all playing at the level that should they should be playing. Playing team at most, if I want to say that, but right now not making the playoff. Um, they have still a lot to grow. New players coming in. Yeah, old players coming back for Lillard, but still a lot has changed and um, just got to wait and see. And yeah, guys, let me know in the comments. Do you think the Portland Trailblazers did good this off season or bad off season? How would you grade from A being good, F being bad? Are there going to be a playoff team or not? Maybe even a playing team. Let me know that.

Portland’s 2025 offseason has all the feels — a full reset, with Scoot Henderson’s youth movement flanked by heavy-hitting returns and savvy veteran additions. Damian Lillard is back on a three-year deal (with a player option and no-trade clause), ready to reclaim his place—though he’ll be recovering from an Achilles tear for most of the season. Jrue Holiday arrived via trade, boosting the leadership and perimeter defense behind the scenes. A major surprise? Gaining 7’1″ “Chinese Jokic” Yang Hansen with the No. 16 pick in a move that looks like a high-upside coup. Meanwhile, DeAndre Ayton was bought out, freeing cap dollars and clearing room for development.

Set against a backdrop of tension, optimism, and a new identity under new ownership, Portland’s reshaping is equal parts homage and overhaul.

In this video, we’ll unpack every major move—including departures, future flexibility, and how this summer sets up Scoot, Sharpe, Holiday, Clingan, and the rest to define the next Trail Blazers chapter.
