Edmonton Oilers Prospect News! | Connor McDavid Contract Talk | Dylan Holloway Speaks Out

Hello, Oilers fans. Austin here with a quick news update. There’s a couple things of information to provide to all of you at home. So, I hope this is helpful. If you find this entertaining andor helpful and you just enjoy the content in general, just make sure to hit that thumbs up button. Hit that subscribe button, hit the bell, make sure you’re notified of every single upload because we are on the daily upload grind once again. And with hockey resuming within the next couple of weeks here, uh the the content is just going to be coming fast and furious and it’s going to be so exciting here in Oil Country. But speaking of Fast and Furious, speaking of excitement in Oil Country, we have to talk about the Edmonton Oilers rookie showcase. Now, in years past, the rookie showcase was in British Columbia in Pentictton where you would have the Oilers, Jets, Flames, and Canucks rookies all kind of play each other in this like little tournament. Now, the tournament never really meant anything, but it was always a good look uh or a good chance to get a good look at the prospects for each of the teams in the Pacific Division, and I guess the Jets are in the Central, but again, another Canadian team, right? Four Canadian teams doing this little tournament together with uh with all the rookies. But this year, things are different. The Oilers and Calgary Flames are not going to British Columbia. They are going to stay home in Alberta. They will play one rookie showcase game in Edmonton on Friday, September 12th, and then one rookie showcase game in the city of Calgary on Sunday, September 14th. Now, Jason Greger put out a tweet. Good old Jason Greger. Good old Gregs. Him and I, we’ve had our interactions in the past, but uh I love Gregs. Oilers and Flames will play two rookie games next week. Friday in Edmonton, Sunday in Calgary. Matt Seavoy, Ike Howard will play for Edmonton along with Bo Ay, Damen Carfa, uh Josh Samansky, Quinn Hudson, Brady Stonehouse, Connor Clattenburg, David Lowwendowski, James Stefen, and among others including goalenders Samuel Johnson and Nathaniel Day. Now, what does this mean in terms of content from me? Well, I’m not going to be going to the Rookie Showcase. However, I will still cover this. I will do a postgame reaction to these games. Obviously, it’s not actual NHL hockey, but it is a good chance to start getting into the swing of the hockey season. General admission tickets for the rookie contest do go on sale tomorrow, 10:00 a.m., depending when you’re watching this video. It’s tomorrow, but you could be watching it the day of, which would be today. So, yeah. So, this matchup uh gives the fans their first opportunity to see Oilers rookies in action ahead of the 2025 26 NHL preseason and regular season. And of course, the NHL official website also listed a bunch of players to look forward to. So, general admission tickets go on sale September 4th. Advanced tickets are $20 per person with day of game. Tickets available for $25. The Oilers host the Flames for their first preseason game, actual NHL hockey on Sunday, September 21st at 6:00 p.m. And again for their home opener on Wednesday, which is October 8th at 8:00 p.m. That is a Wednesday at Rogers Place. And we are all very eagerly looking forward to that. Now, another little piece of news I do want to bring up is Dylan Hall. Well, oh no, I don’t want to bring up Dylan Holloway. We got to stop looking in the past, start looking in the future. Listen, I understand. There’s one reason why I’m bringing up Dylan Holloway. It’s because he was asked about his contract negotiation situation with Edmonton. And on his negotiations with the Oilers, he said, “It rubbed me the wrong way how little Edmonton thought of me.” Now, as you all know, Dylan Holloway always had that potential that a lot of fans saw in him. He was played with Leon Didle extensively in the cup run in 2024 before the Oilers eventually lost in seven to the Florida Panthers. Now for Dylan Holloway, he signed the offer sheet with the St. Louis Blues and now that is who he is with. And obviously Oilers fans wish Dylan Hol could still be with the team. But I think that’s a pretty good insight to how the team was viewing Dylan Holloway compared to how us fans viewed Dylan Hall. A lot of us fans knew right away, hey, we should probably sign our upand cominging young superstar or potential superstar. I don’t think he’ll ever hit that like superstar range, but Dylan Holloway always had that 25 goal, 70 point potential. That’s just what he was. That’s what he was projecting. A lot of speed, a lot of tenacity, a lot of physicality. He would drop the gloves if he had to. And it looked like he was trending upward. Uh it is interesting that his quote there with regards to how the team viewed him, thinking that it rubbed him the wrong way, thinking that the Oilers didn’t think that much of him compared to obviously what he and his camp thought of himself. I’m happy for Dylan Holloway. Well, why am I bringing up Dylan Holloway right now? Well, it also kind of has to do with the Conor McDavid contract situation. Of course, fans from all over that are not in oil country are hoping that Conor McDavid does not sign. They want him to go sign elsewhere because it would be very funny and it would be very on brand for the Oilers to fail at keeping another generational talent. Of course, they did sell Wayne Gretzky in 1989. But in terms of the Oilers, obviously they understand McDavid’s value. There will be a deal that gets done. Do they value McDavid the way he sees himself? Of course they do. And if you’re if you’re an Oilers general manager, owner, if you’re part of the entertainment group, season ticket holder, you just hey, let McDavid take his time. But to kind of put everyone at ease, Rob Suget onx or twitter.com, he put out this tweet today that I’m going to read to you. No concern, Conor McDavid has not signed yet. Leon signed on September 3rd last year. Sydney Crosby waited until September 16th to extend last year. And in 2022, Nathan McKinnon waited until September 20th to sign his extension with the Colorado Avalanche. McDavid will be resigning with the Oilers. Just a matter of term. And obviously, I think we all understand that in Oil Country, I think we all know that he will sign with Mton. Is it going to be a three or four year deal? Is it going to be an eight-year deal? Whatever the deal ends up being, McDavid gets to decide when he wants to sit down at the table with Jeff Jackson, with um Stam Bowman, with his agent and hammer a deal home. We know him and Leon Dryidle are this close together. We know their spouses are this close together. And McDavid’s not going anywhere. In the future, going back to the Dylan Holloway situation, when it comes to young players, yep, young upand cominging players, a guy like Matthew Seavoy, for example, hopefully if Seavoy is showing that potential, they do not just allow him to walk as a restricted free agent. Now, obviously players have to sign that contract. It’s not like the Oilers said, “Hey, go sign with another team.” That’s not the situation that happened. The Oilers could have matched. They chose not to. Obviously very disappointing, but hopefully in the future our young players stay at Edmonton. And hopefully our management, including Stan Bowman, values them a little bit more than apparently Jeff Jackson and Ken Holland value Dylan Holloway. That is it from me today. That is our quick news update. Let me know all of your thoughts in the comments section below. Are you excited for the rookie showcase? Who are you most excited to see on the Oilers? 1. GMs are dumb as rocks compared to fans obviously. We’d all have a few cup rings on both hands if we ran the team. /s

I like the rookie game idea.

  2. Welcome back Austin!

Sad for me to say but I don't think we'll be able to win a Cup with us paying close to $40 million for three players – Drai, Bouch and McDavid.

  3. Why should connor honesty resign with Edmonton since upper management is refusing to get a decent goaltender, who cares what Gregor has to say he was one of the biggest Schwartz homer in the world
