A’s vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (9/3/25) | MLB Highlights
Matthew Liberator. I’m excited for this kid, man. Making his 26 start of the season, 50th start of his big league career. He’s been checking off first all season long. This is wireto-wire as a starter in the big leagues. Look, there have been some highs, there have been some lows, but I think that he’s learned a lot. Five strong innings for him last time out against Cincinnati. Gave up a pair of homers. But we talked to Ali. The slider’s been good. been working on that thing consistently riding that fast ball. Hopefully we see both of those things today. And Matthew Libertto will have a chance to face Shane Langalers who’s the player of the month for the American League. Two-1 pitch to Langaliers is hit in the air to right field and Jordan Walker moves back. He’s drifting back a little more and settles under it. That ball carried. Wilson eight for his last 21 hitting 315. 3-2 on the ground to short. Mason gobbles that up and a strike. Two up and two men down. Two- two pitch is a called strike three. Libby painted him on the outside corner and a good first inning for the Cardinal left-hander Matthew Libertur. Jeffrey Springs will take the ball. He’s looking for a win for the first time in a while. He gives it up for the first three an awful lot. Well, let’s go ahead and take advantage of that. Trent, you mentioned some of the home run issues. 26 given up for the veteran spring. So maybe the Cardinals can get something in the air early. Now the two- two pitch to win is a hard grounder. Good recovery by Gellof to his left. Throws to first. One away. So already some flashing defense from Gellof. Springs strikes out Ivon Herrera. First strike out of the game for Jeffrey. And two are away quickly. One-two pitch. Little slow roller to the second baseman. Golf will scoop it up and flip it to first. It’s a one, two, three first for Springs. Couple of ground ball outs. We’re through an inning. A’s and Cardinals. No score. Brent Rooker will lead things off against Liberator. Rooker hammered down the left field line. Moving over to get it. Newbar. See if Rooker stretches for two. He will push for second. The throw in is off the bag and Rooker has a stand up double to lead off the second. On the ground to third. That won’t advance the runner. Gorman. A nice backhanded play and a strike to first. And the one-two pitch is a curveball and that’s a called strike three. He got the top of the zone. Gellof can’t believe it, but it is the second strike out for Liberator and Daryl Hern will bat. 3-2 payoff pitch is low and inside. Hern will draw a two out walk and give Lawrence Butler a chance. Here comes the pitch and it’s a called strike three. Got him on the inside corner with a change up. Contras done a pretty good job against the left-handers this year. Right back where it came from. A base hit. Oh, Contras a leadoff single and the Cardinals off to a good start. Two strikes for Saji and he chases another change up in the dirt. Cardinals having trouble measuring up that pitch and that’ll bring up Nolan Gorbin, the third baseman. 3-1 rifle into the right field corner. Contrarus around second. He’ll make his way to third. To the plate. The one-two pitch that swung on and missed. He got him. And another change up. He went back to back to back on those change ups and picks up strikeout number three. There are two away. Walker hitless in his last four games. One for 21 over his last six as well. Ground ball off the end of the bat. Gellof gets it, throws to first and that will retire the side. Jeffrey Springs works out of some traffic and posts another zero as we approach the third. Mason wins second on the Cardinals in hits since the All-Star break. He’s got 38 of them. There’s number 39. Flared into center and down for a one-out hit. Haters count the pitch. Is a touch low. Herrera is going to walk to first and the Cardinals in business yet again. Lefty on lefty matchup. Infield the double play depth. And Nupar drives it to right field. Rooker going back. Still going. And he makes the catch over his shoulder right in front of the wall. Tagging up his wind to third. That was struck very well by New Bar. But a great play on the defensive side by Rooker. So first and third now with two outs. And here is Wilson Matis, the first baseman. The payoff from Springs. Flared out to right. Here comes Rooker. It drops down. Pops going to wave homer. Here’s the relay throw. It’s late. Contras advances to second and the tag is in time. So Rooker went kind of up for it. I don’t know if he lost in the lights, but I think he might have had trouble with it. It’s going to be a single for Contras. Two RBI’s. He’s thrown out at second base, but the Cardinals get two runs on two hits. Getting a little warm at the ballpark for Matthew Liberator. He is beginning his sixth inning as Kurtz drives that to left. Cann for Newbar. One out. Matthew Liberator winning tonight. 81 pitches, five and a third innings. And Oliver Marl is on his way out. Matthew Liberator his last win June 29th. He’s in position to win game three tonight as Kyle Lehey strides in from the Cardinals bullpen here in game three. Two nothing Cardinals. Jeffrey Springs still in there for the A’s working into the sixth inning. 3-2 pitch. Stroke to center. Butler good read. Makes the catch. Bouncing ball back to Springs. He’ll throw to the covering Curts. Two down. There’s the 1-1 pitch. That’s a ground ball on the left side. Fielded second off by Hern plants, throws and gets a nice job by Spring. Seven in a row retired by the left-hander and another ground ball out. We’re through six complete. It’s the Cardinals two in the A’s nothing. The A’s have something going here. First and second, one out and Willie MacGyver is going to give way to Carlos Cortez. First pitch on the way and there’s a ground ball to Wilson Contrez. The only player he can get is at second base as he tosses it to Mason Win. He was moving in that direction and he was able to get him on the force. But this is a situation where the Athletics were not able to capitalize on last night, Chris. And runners in scoring position. Two outs. Can he get that big knock? And I think that was something that just eluded the club. On the ground, Mason fumbles for a moment, but the flip to second in time and that will retire the side. Seventh inning stretch at Bush. Cardinals lead at two zip. This is right up Nolan’s alley. A guy who throws this hard and Nolan likes that fast ball out over the plate. High towering fly ball. A slider deep to right. That’s going to carry that is gone. All he does is get the barrel to this one. Alvarado throws him a slider. It’s down. He goes down and gets it. pops this thing way up into the night and it dumps right over the right field fence into the Cardinals bullpen. Curts is 0 for three tonight, one for six in the series. He’s struck out twice. 10 deep drive to left field four. Get about that baseball into the A’s bullpen. Curt’s going the other way. A solo shot. It’s 31 Cardinals. A fast ball the other way by Ley right there. and he did not miss it. Gets extended right there. Able to really really let the ball travel. And I I know some right-handers wish they could hit a ball like that, but that is some tremendous power from the lefty. Two runners on, one out, and Jojo needs a double play now. He’s been known to be able to get those. Strike came out. Three pitches. Gellof was trying to hit a home run and came up empty for a big strikeout. There he goes. Breaking ball roll toward third. Nolan’s got it. Throws on the run and they got him. The inning is over for now, but we’ll see if the A’s take a look at this and they’re going to challenge it. I thought he was safe to the naked eye, but when I see this on the replay, I don’t know, man. Oh, man. I that may be too close to turn over. Have to review the call on the field is the runner is out. The athletically lose their challenge. They’re going to put newbar on. They’re intentionally walk and take their chances with Wilson Gatras with the base opener. So, first and second now, two outs. Greer is two for three. Had that two-run single in the third with two outs that Brooker lost in the lights. That one popped into left. That ball is going to get behind Soderstrom. That will roll toward the warning track. Two runs will score. Contras on his way to third. Two big insurance runs here in the eighth inning and the Cardinals now lead five to one. Serson really didn’t get a good look at it and he almost looked like the way Rooker came in, he looked like he just didn’t pick it up and he didn’t stuck his glove out hoping that it was going to find his glove, but it scooted it all the way to the wall and Wilson cleared the bases. Trying to pin it down is Jojo Romero who’s looking for his seventh save of the year. up the middle. So Saji to his right off balance throw and they got him. What a way to end it. So Jaci with a terrific play and the Cardinals take two out of three from the A’s and hold him to two runs in the last two days.

SERIES WIN !!! UNDISPUTED Manager of the Year Oliver Jose Marmol and his St. Louis Cardinals (the GREATEST team in the league), the HOTTEST team since All-Star Break. The squad will go 91-71, TAKE the NL Central, MAKE the postseason once again and in one/two months (depending on when the games are in October/November), HUDDLE around a World Series trophy for an unprecedented TWELFTH time!
In the bottom of the third inning, a teammate starts the offense with an RBI single to right field to drive in Masyn Blaze Winn, the 23-year-old from Katy, Texas, and IvΓ‘n Aaron Herrera, the 25-year-old from Panama City, Panama.
Nolan Brian Gorman, OH MY GOODNESS !! In the bottom of the seventh inning, the 25-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona, DEMOLISHES A BOMB to right center field.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, a teammate hits an RBI triple to center field, bringing in Masyn Blaze Winn and Lars Taylor-Tatsuji Nootbaar, the 27-year-old from El Segundo, California!
YOWZA !! A FILTHY #SCTOP10 double play in the top of the ninth inning as third baseman Nolan Brian Gorman FIRED to second baseman Thomas Darren Saggese who then HURLED to a teammate at first base. That SHOWS the STL is not only the best offensively, but defensively, too!
Friends, give a STANDING OVATION to Matthew Joseph Liberatore. The 25-year-old from Peoria, Arizona, was HEAVEN with SEVEN monster strikeouts! MAD PROPS go to Kyle Yandow Leahy and Joseph Abel "Jojo" Romero, both part of the best bullpen in the league, for the PERFECT defense!
TIME TO FLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #12in25 #STLFLY

Now, we need to build a long winning streak as of 2021 or better. Go Cardinals!
Can't really tell which Nolan is at 3rd by looking at the defense.
1:01 the closest an umpire comes to making a play
Way to make that park empty, Marmol!!!
The A's were SO bad in the field they actually made the Cardinals look good.
Walking nootbar to face contras is crazy
Just absurd, stupid base running by the Cardinals recently
