MAJOR Miami Dolphins News Before NFL Week 1
[Music] NFL week one is almost here for the Miami Dolphins and we got some major updates for all the Dolphins fans when it comes to the injury front. Maybe some personnel decisions as well. Some assistant coaches spoke to media today and labeled maybe some starters, some players that might see an expanded role in the season opener against the Indianapolis Colts. And I did want to start here in the safety room. Ashton Davis seems to be on track to play in this game. He was limited in practice on Wednesday, limited in practice on Thursday with a calf injury, but we know he suffered a lower body injury relatively early in camp. It was labeled as a significant injury that was going to cost him a lot of time, but not season ending. To me, I just assumed he was going to be on IR to begin the year, missed the first four seasons. While Mike McDaniels seemed to maybe lead on this injury as more serious than it actually is, and he is going to be on track to play in the openers, a guy Miami signed in for A&C relatively early in that first week to a one-year deal to be a rot rotational piece for the secondary. and staying in the safety room. Anthony Weaver when speaking to Dolphins media members today mentioned that both Ashton Davis and Eafatu Fanu the other safety that Miami signed could be playing next to Minka Fitzpatrick. though he did not clearly detail which safety was going to be the starter next to Minka when the Dolphins defense rolls out there for their first snap, but it does sound like both of them will actually see snaps this week. And I would also expect Elijah Campbell to get some playing time in this game as well. More to come here, but hit that sub button. We’re 150 away from 73K. The goal is to get to 73,000 subscribers before we kick off on Sunday. Appreciate everyone who has joined the channel and has been subscribed. But let’s get to 73K. Join the Dolphins Today family. The safety room is obviously completely revamped from a year ago. The only player that remains is Elijah Campbell. You got rid of Puyer. You got rid of Marcus May. You got rid of Javon Holland. You bring in Fitzpatrick via trade. Davis Melanu for A&C. Trader Jr. through the draft. Like, this safety room should be very exciting and very new. And I’m excited to see new faces in this back group considering how poor the safety play was just one season ago. And I briefly mentioned it just a second ago, but when thinking about how the safeties will be utilized in this first game, I would expect to see four safeties active and all of them see the football field in some capacity. Those being Minka, Ashen Davis, Efatu Malafanu, and Elijah Campbell. I think Dante Trader Jr. will be inactive. Not because he is hurt, even though he is on the injury report. He is practicing in full. I just don’t think he’s ready to play. He hasn’t really gotten any reps. He’s missed a lot of time in the preseason and training camp. So, it doesn’t make sense to have him active, keep another player active at a different position because I don’t expect him to get meaningful playing time regardless. But the other four safeties should absolutely see a lot of snaps. Staying in the secondary, but moving over to cornerback, Anthony Weaver was asked about the newest corner, Rul Douglas. Weaver said that he could actually see some snaps. Remember, this was a late edition just a couple weeks ago before roster cutdown day. He actually signed officially the day after roster cutdown day. Weaver on Douglas said that he has grasped the playbook because his football acumen is so high. How much he will play is to be determined, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I see him on the field. Now, when you’re asking me on how the Dolphins should approach this week one game with their cornerbacks, I would try as hard as possible to stay away from Russul Douglas. Wait one more week and then you could start to integrate him in in week two at home against the New England Patriots. Why? Well, he’s only been in the system for a week and a half. So even if he has a grasp of the playbook, he still doesn’t really have any chemistry or rapport with any of these other secondary players. And it’s important to have chemistry and a rapport because when you’re playing zone coverage, which Miami does a lot and does it often, you need to have the ability to communicate, to pass off players as they go from zone to zone and know how your opposing um players and your teammates will react to certain movements from the opposing offense. I don’t think we have that yet. One more week of practice is the best way to go. Be the coach though. Would you play Russul Douglas in this opener against the Colts? If you would play him, type P for play. If you would like to sit them and wait a week like me, type S for set. Listen, Storm Duck and Jack Jones have been here practically the entire time. Jones was signed the first week of training camp on that Saturday. But I’d let these two have their chance to start. I I do. if they struggle, if Storm Duck is abysmal in week one or Jack Jones gets burnt and is playing out of assignment and taking too many gamles and risks, which is something he certainly has done in the past playing for New England and the Las Vegas Raiders. Well, then maybe you can put in the veteran Rul Douglas. But at least to start the game, if they are not getting torched, let these two have a full game. You also have Jason Marshall Jr. there potentially as well. Anthony Weaver continued to talk about the defense in this one and this quote really fired me up. I wanted to share it with all of y’all. He said that we are a little positionless. We have a lot of tweeners on the defense, but that gives us a lot of flexibility. And if you’ve been with the channel for a year, you would know I preach flexibility and versatility, not only in football, but in life. I think being versatile in the way you can attack life, um, attack work, uh, family, as well as on the football field, basketball court, it doesn’t matter, is the best way to go about it. Being able to be comfortable in different things. Well, having a versatile and flexible defense is also huge because you can line up in so many different ways. Specifically, in the nickel, when asked if Jason Marshall Jr. will get first crack, Weaver said that he has been awesome in training camp, but he’s not married to Marshall Jr. for playing nickel. He labeled four guys that can play the position for Miami. Marshall Jr., two safeties in Fitzpatrick and Melanu. And how about the linebacker that Miami signed to a one-year deal and for ANC, Willie Gay Jr., who has been a standout all throughout training camp and the preeason. And he is going to be so much fun to watch. He is just a ball of energy. And if you watch the Dolphins behind the scenes YouTube uh video of Under the Sun, you would know how energetic Willie Gay Jr. is. He is just so happy and exuberant every single day on the football field. Him and KJ Br have a really good relationship and he’s as versatile as it comes whether it’s lining up to rush the passer on the edge or lining up as the mic or the Sam the whale and being able to do anything on this Dolphins defense. And Joe Barry the linebackers coach for Miami elaborated on Willie Gay Jr. saying his elite backup ability is huge. He’s Jordan Brooks backup on paper. Willie Gay’s football knowledge has been really impressive getting to know him. I thank God we have to have we have him as a backup. He’s a chess piece for us that we are going to be able to use all over the place. This just further comes back to the point I’ve been making really over the past month and a half and specifically over the last three weeks since the Dolphins signed Matt Judon. I cannot wait to watch this front seven. I think it is a top three front seven in football. I have been on a island here in the chat sports offices as I’ve consistently said that Miami has the best pass rush in football. I think it has a chance to be that. But when you factor in its ability to stop the run as well, thanks to Jordan Brooks, Tyrell Dodson, Willie Gay, I think this is going to be an awesome front seven. And I can’t wait to watch them start their season this upcoming Sunday. More coming up here, but get started with prize picks. And we’re brought to you by Prize Picks. Every day I make decisions. you do as well. And with prize picks, the right decisions can get you paid. And boy, it’s nice to be right on prize picks. You can take more or less on two to six player stat projections. If you get your picks right, you could cash in. Whether it’s your favorite players like Jaylen Wadd, Tua, Saquon Barkley, Joe Burrow, Prize Pix invented the Flex Play, which means you can still cash out if your lineup isn’t perfect. Double your money even if one of your picks doesn’t hit. I have an entry for the first week of the season. More than Dak Prescott, half a passing yard. Take advantage of that lowered stat projection from prize picks. I’m pairing that up with Joe Flacco and Deario Douglas, more than passing yards and receiving yards, respectively. Three player entry, but you can go up to six if you want. Download the app today and use code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That is code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup prize picks. It’s good to be right to move over to the offense now because Frank Smith was asked about Darren Waller and his availability in week one against the Colts. And Frank Smith flat out said he isn’t worried about Waller status for NFL week one. But I’m going to think that’s a lie because he was a DNP in practice on Wednesday with a hip injury and then he was a DNP again on Thursday. McDaniel said that it’s part of the plan to give Waller a rest day on Wednesday. But was it part of the plan to have him not practice on Thursday as well? Darren Waller essentially has not practiced with the Dolphins. He hasn’t done it. He’s been at practice working on the side, but he hasn’t really been integrated in this offense doing team drills. I’m supposed to believe a player that didn’t play last season, was retired, comes out of retirement, doesn’t play in a team practice, is going to be able to go out there and perform and be the starting tight end for this football team in week one. I’m sorry. Call me a little bit naive. I don’t think it’s possible. I’m close to calling him the second coming of Will Fuller. Dolphins fans know what Will Fuller did to this football team. Heck, you could even classify Odell Beckham Jr. as a variant of Will Fuller a year ago. At least he played football for the Dolphins for a couple weeks. I’m not sure Darren Waller ever does. I hope he does. He’s planned to be this tight end one for the team, but based off the amount of times we’ve seen him on practice and on the football field, it’s hard for me to be positive about that. I am very, very skeptical. But you predict it for me down in the comments. Will Darren Waller play on Sunday? I’m saying he doesn’t, but let me know your thoughts down in the comments. Type Y for yes or type N for no. All right, let’s get into a positive note once again and talk about secondyear slot receiver Malik Washington. Frank Smith is very excited about what he’s bringing to the table in his second year in the National Football League. Frank Smith on Malik asked about him said his route running stands out. He’s very diligent in how he does everything. And I think this was abundantly clear when watching him in the preseason and hearing about what he was doing in training camp. He flashed with his ability to make things happen with the ball in his hands last year as a rookie. He took over the punt return, the kick returner duties late in the year, got more opportunities in the receiving game, but this year projects to be the leading slot receiver and it looks based off the preseason. He has the favor of Tuatung Valoa. Dolphins offense had one drive in the first preseason game. Malik Washington played seven snaps. He touched the ball four times, three catches and an enderound. And then in this last preseason game, the Dolphin starters played basically a full quarter. Malik Washington caught a touchdown, was targeted on a fourth down, and Tua just continued to go after him. Malik Washington is in for a big year. He’s also the lead punt returner and kick returner for the Miami Dolphins. And when asked about it, Craig Aerman, the special teams coordinator, said, “Here are the backup punt returners, D. Escridge, but he’s dealing with concussion right now. was throw in a red contact red non-cont jersey. He mentioned Taj Washington, Tyreek Hill, and Ali Gordon as punch potential punt returners. I’m a little skeptical on Ali Gordon because I don’t think I’ve ever seen him return punts, so I don’t really believe that. We know Tyreek Hill has and we know Taj Washington has in the past as well. I think Taj Washington would be a good option. But hey, on the first unofficial depth chart for Miami, Tyreek Hill was the listed backup punt returner. He did it in his first three seasons a ton with Kansas City. Wonder if he does it here potentially in his last year in Miami. But let’s hope Malik Washington never gets hurt. He plays all 17 games. Is the lead specialist return man and also the lead slot receiver for Miami. I mean, that’s the hope, right? All right, that’ll do it for today’s show. Appreciate everybody who tuned in and watched throughout the entire episode. If you want to join us, we will be live on Sunday for week one Dolphins Colts. Me and Coupe are going to be here watching it all, hopefully seeing a Dolphins win. Very excited for week one. If you see this thumbnail, it means we are live on the channel. Itโs a happy day for me and I feel I must share my testimony. People work for more than 10years just to have less than $2m in their retirement, Meanwhile some people become multi millionaires within a short period by just making the right choices. I am a living testimony, I went from debt to making an average of $200k every month, thanks to Lasha M. May. I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life.
Dolphins are coached by a clown.
Honestly, if you switched Grier and Waller's positions the team wouldn't look much different.
Play him if needed
Iโd love to know how Walker got hurt. He played on zero preseason games and has barely practiced. Come to think of it, he should fit right in on this team. Mysterious injuries. Chronically hurt. Remember Sieler broke an orbital bone by getting โ poked in the eyeโ? You do know thatโs not a plausible explanation right? The Dolphins are one of the worst run teams in the NFL from the owner on down.
โโThe Fins secondary is something the NFL has never seen before.๐๐๐
I hope Waller plays
Grier needs to go!!!
P
Yes, need chemistry but itโs best to play Douglas
