How Every NHL Team Got Their Name: Central Division

how every NHL team got their name Central Division let’s start things off with the Chicago Blackhawks owner Frederick mclen named the team in 1926 after the 86th Infantry Division the Blackhawk division he served during the first world war second is the Colorado Avalanche when the Quebec niges moved to Denver in 1995 they needed a new name they were almost the Rocky Mountain extreme but that didn’t make any sense so ownership settled on Avalanche because there are often avalanches in the Rocky Mountains third is the Dallas Stars originally the team was known as the Minnesota North Stars when the team moved to Texas in 1993 they simply dropped the north which fit perfectly because of Texas’s status as the Lone Star State fourth is the Minnesota Wild after a name the team contest Minnesota settled on wild referring to the masses of woodlands and wildlife in the state of Minnesota fifth is the Nashville Predators 1971 a saber-tooth tiger fossil was found beneath a building in Downtown Nashville when the Predators joined the NHL in 1997 they already had a logo to honor the fossil but didn’t have a team name with the logo already decided Nashville turned to a fan vote with Predators being chosen over Fury attack and Ice Tigers six is the St Louis Blues the blues got their name after a wh handy song called St Louis Blues other names under consideration were the Mercury and Apollo as space capsules with those names were being built in St Louis seventh is the Utah Hockey Club the NHL’s newest team even though they don’t have an official name yet I just hope they Nam the team the Utah Yeti L but not least the winipeg Jets when the Atlanta Thrashers moved to winipeg in 2011 they took on the name Jets after the former NHL team that played in winipeg from 1979 to 1996

  1. A couple funny things about the Avalanche. They were going to be called Rocky Mountain Xtreme but the name released before it was official and was hated by almost everyone in Colorado so they changed it.

Also the team colors were going to be burgundy and green. But a problem with the printer ink made the mock up logos burgundy and blue and they realized that those colors looked a lot better.

  2. Food for thought. The Minneapolis Lakers moved to LA so both the Kings and Lakers own their colors to Minnesota. The San Jose was granted a team to appease the Gunn brothers who wanted to buy the North Stars and move them

  3. Problem and correction for you the Chicago Blackhawks were named after chief Blackhawk and that’s why they can get away with keeping it as well because Chicago has a lot of first nation Americans

  4. Blackhawks and Jets are a weak explanation.. Why was the military group called that? THAT would be the reason.
And the Jets (with the nearly identical logo as the Royal Canadian Air Force logo) were named after the original jets (currently Utah) who were named that because the RCAF built military aircraft in Winnipeg.

  5. The Dallas Stars shouldn't exist. And if they just absolutely HAVE to exist, they should be the Dallas Wild. Minnesota should still be the North Stars. There's so many teams in the NHL that shouldn't exist but fuckin do
