3 Keys to a Win vs. Bills | Baltimore Ravens Final Drive

The first Purple Friday of the year is finally here. The Ravens head to Buffalo Saturday for Sunday night’s prime time action to open the season. The talking point all week has been the rematch against the Bills, who knocked the Ravens out of the playoffs to finish last season. But this Ravens team has emphasized all week that this is a new team, a new season, and a new opportunity. They’re focused on avoiding costly mistakes and ensuring that this time the outcome is different. Quarterback Lamar Jackson said the key is to protect the football and finish drives. Clean football. I I think that’s what I mean that’s the biggest thing. What we’ve worked on all offseason, clean football, our operation starts with that. Our operation, okay. Um, as we talked about our cadence, our pre- snap penalties, those things, right? Staying ahead of the chains. Uh, like I said, protecting the football, finishing downfield, being the most physical team on the field. I mean, that’s that’s really what it what it comes down to. And, uh, we’re pretty good when we play clean football. We really are. The Ravens will also need contributions from key rookies with John Harbaugh emphasizing the importance of keeping their composure on the biggest stage. Rookie kicker Tyler Loop said he feels confident in the consistent process the specialists have built from good reps in the preseason. Special teams coordinator Chris Horton was pleased with rookie punt returner Lejante Wester’s decision-making and confidence catching the ball in the preseason. Wester returned a punt 87 yards for a touchdown in his preseason debut. Something the Ravens would love to see him repeat in the regular season. And first round pick Malachi Starks is slotted as a day one starter at safety with the full confidence of defensive coordinator Zack Or. I’m fully confident in Malachi. I can’t wait for him to go out there and go play a full game. Um he played a little bit in the preseason, but he he didn’t play a lot of snaps. Um like I said, um you know, it’ll be interesting to see how he goes out there and go do. I know I know how I feel like he’s going to do. I think he’s going to play really well for us. Um he’s done great in camp. He’s done great in practice. Like I said, he doesn’t he doesn’t play like a rookie. He doesn’t um you know, act like a rookie, but you know, like we said, it’s week one, so this is going to be his first professional game. We got to go out there and go see him do it, but I’m confident that he will go out there and go play great football for us. And finally, the Ravens defense will need to get out to a strong start with a big test in the Bills quarterback Josh Allen le offense. The second game, he didn’t have to do a lot to to to beat us. So, um I can’t look at that and say, “Oh, we we did a good job against them because he he didn’t have to um go crazy uh for them to win the game. They found other ways to win.” I think that’s a testament to to good quarterbacks. Um you know, taking what the defense gives you if you feel like you got the game in control. um not losing the game or not putting the ball in harm’s way and that’s what he did. So um you know like you said every every year is different. We we’ve played them quite a bit. Um we we understand the type of player he is and what type of offense they have and we got to find a way to to not only slow him down and and stop him but also um the other skilled players that they have on their roster. Ravens players know Sunday night is a litmus test to show what they’ve built this off season and throughout training camp. We have to show the world exactly who we are because we know who we are. So, it’s just now it’s about showing it and not having self-inflicted. Sunday Night Football kicks off at 8:20 p.m. on NBC. Thanks for watching. We’ll see you then.

The Ravens need to play a clean game against the Bills, have strong rookie debuts, and get off to a strong defensive start.
