Jung Hoo Lee, Carson Seymour and more react to Giants’ win over Cardinals | NBC Sports Bay Area
And we are going to go right back to St. Louis where Jung Hulie is waiting. A forit night for Jung Hu. And and one thing we saw tonight, Raphael Divers, Willie Adamis right off the bat with the home runs. It seems like that’s been a trend over the last couple weeks. What’s it like watching the early leads you guys are getting every night? [Music] Yeah. Um, a lot of our hitters in the front lineup, they’ve been hitting really well and I feel like that just naturally connects to a lot of the hitters in the bottom of the lineup hitting together well. So, you know, it’s just great to get the win today. Jung-ho, you know, you got injured last year, so this is basically your first full year in the big leagues. What adjustments did you make in the second half of the season? Because you’re hitting over 300 in the second half and you’re pl you’re being more consistent at the plate. Have you made any adjustments? Yeah, I’m trying to be consistent at what I’m really good at. So, focusing on what I’m really good at. And also uh back at home, the coaches and a lot of people in the organization are helping me out. A lot of a lot of good advices. So I feel like I’m getting a lot of good vibes inside the clubhouse right now. Jungu, anytime we talk to you, we also hear from Justin. Obviously, I’m watching the game the other day in Denver and it looked like Willie Adam tried to give him a haircut in the dugout. What did you think of the haircut he gave him and tell us just how much fun are you guys having right now? Yeah, Justin has a lot of white hair, so he needs to dye his hair into black. Justin, you don’t have white hairs. We know that. Justin, thank you. Jungu, thank you for joining us. Thank you, guys. What are your thoughts on how much you got out of Carson tonight? Yeah, it was great. I mean, going in, we were kind of up in the air what we were going to look at. It was probably going to be somewhere around three, but not only did we score some runs, he pitched probably as well as we’ve seen him pitch all this year. Um, you know, really good fast ball, challenge fast ball, sinker at bottom of the zone, and you could tell he was pitching with a lot of confidence. So to be able to get five was huge for us and then only have to use three relievers on a day that we felt like we’re going to have to use a bunch was was nice to do. What what do you see in Deborah’s especially his first at bat because he’s just having a lot of success that first at bat of a game. I would too if I was hitting a homer every day and it it you know that we’ve been talking about that’s really kind of been the what’s ignited us is is that homer in the first and then we get a one from Willie as well. So it was a really good feeling in the first. We’ve felt it a lot. We’ve home runs have been a huge part of what we’ve been doing here recently and a lot of it has been devers in the first inning. So, he’s on a nice little heater. Talked about offense being infectious. The eight runs matching the season high for 18 hits. Is it almost kind of becoming an expectation to have these types of nice just the way you’ve been swinging the bats over the last couple weeks? It we go into the game feeling good about our offense and there’s a reason for it, you know, over the last I don’t know 15, 18 games, whatever it’s been. So, um, you know, it’s contagious just like it can it goes the other way. And right now offensively, we feel like we’re as good as we’ve been all year. And with Bailey hitting well and Gilbert at the bottom of the lineup and getting production from Schmidy and everybody else, it just feels like, you know, we’re we’re a tough team to handle right now. Does it make it easier for you all to roll it into tomorrow, too, when it stays consistent throughout the game and when it’s all nine spots contributing the way that it was tonight? Well, it’s this has been going on for a while, so I think we we take confidence going into the next next day regardless. For a guy like Carson who, you know, you’re expecting maybe to go three, maybe four to push to get his first big league win, how special is it is. I mean, you you didn’t you feel it, too. I mean, I’m trying to get him through. I had Gage up there. If he doesn’t get, you know, the nine hitter out in that spot, Nbar comes up and hits a homer, it’s a six to four game. So, it was important he got for me now to to end the fifth because we’re probably going to go a different route. Was no hitter on your line at any point? Uh, look, it’s tough to take a guy out when he hasn’t given up a hit, but he usually comes into play more after the sixth. Did you get the full uh treatment stuff poured on you and stuff? Oh, yeah. I think I had like barbecue sauce, yogurt, um I don’t know, some spicy. My lip was kind of on fire. Um but yeah, the whole bit for sure. You describe what like just the feeling of getting your I mean I’m not even sure anybody expected that you would go five, but to get your first big league win too. Yeah, I mean Bob asked me after the fourth if I was good and then I mean I knew what was like also knew I didn’t have to give up a hit either and I was like yeah I feel good, you know. So, I was just trying to keep that alive, honestly, and keep it rolling and just try and, you know, um, quick like quick on defense and long innings for us when we’re hitting. That’s that’s the goal when I start. So, hopefully I did my part there. Was it for you to go out and attack guys, you know, given an early two nothing lead? That’s it’s a six nothing lead, I think, by the bottom of the third inning. Yeah, it was huge. It was huge. I mean, Patty, after we scored those two, Patty said, “Let’s be aggressive. Let’s go after him.” and and we we tried to do that as best as we could. So, it’s super easy to pitch with a big like a two-run lead and then a bigger lead after that. It’s nice. Just in general, Deborah’s hitting all these homers in the first. What has that done for the team as a whole? I mean, he’s it’s a spark plug, you know, gives us energy in the dugout. The tunnel has been been awesome. Awesome to be a part of. And then yeah, we just just kind of carry that energy after he hits a homer. It’s like everyone’s fired up and then the hitters it’s just it’s just contagious, you know, and then it makes you want to pitch really well and go out there and give it your best. How would you describe the way your sinker was working tonight? It was I mean we were just trying to keep it at the bottom of the zone obviously last last time out before the start. It was uh little elevated, got hurt on it. So that was my big like the big goal kind of in the bullpin in Colorado and then today is just trying to keep that sinker low and then mix in the other pitches as well. Sometimes when things are rolling well for a starter can be kind of eager to get back out there, right? Turn the offense back over, get back to the mound. Is that a little bit tonight or is it pretty good to watch them consistently kind of drum out hits the way they were able to throughout this game? I mean, I I like watching our hitters hit, you know? So, anytime they’re putting up runs, I’m I’m good with it, you know. I I have a little bit of a routine um in the dugout, so it’s just kind of dependent on the outs and then I just go from there.
