🔴LIVE 🔴San Francisco Giants VS St Louis Cardinals/ September 06 / Baseball Envivo/MLB THE SHOW 25

will bring Major League Baseball on a Saturday night. It’s the San Francisco Giants taking on the St. Louis Cardinals. First pitch coming at you right after the break. So, just about set now and towing the slab in this one. Michael McGrevy and Singy. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers This one’s into the outfield. Could be extra bases around first. Heading for two and it’s a double to start the game. Oh, no waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. Anytime you can drive a ball into the gap the other way, it feels so good and that’s when you know you’re right where you need to be at the plate. It’s even better when it gets you extra bases. Got to love looking in at your dugout and seeing your teammates fired up. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Here’s Raphael Devers. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Yeah. And here’s a fun stat on Dvers. He’s at his best when he’s hitting homers and doubles. And by the time he was 26 years old, D’s already had over 150 home runs and more than 200 doubles. He’s just the 15th player in baseball history with those kinds of numbers at that age. That clips the zone and it’s 0 and two. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Now one missed. Ramos stands at second with no outs. Got him. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strikeout. And there’s one away. Oh, just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there. I think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle. So, I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the heartst boring in on his hands. Willis stands in. Fast for a strike. [Applause] Let’s go. Yeah, there’s the strike. [Applause] That one the other way and it goes just foul. [Music] Strike him out. One. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. [Music] Strike him out. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. One out and a runner at second. Next offering upstairs. Think he wanted that call on the upper part of the zone, but just didn’t get it. Now he’s just trying to get a better feel for how much it missed, so he can adjust his sights just a little bit. And that’s outside. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Most guys are very aggressive when they see the stakes out there on the base paths and can’t understand why he wasn’t ready to swing the bat. You’ve got to be ready to swing the bat in a situation like that with the go-ahead run in scoring position. Dom Smith stands in. He’s been a great free agent sign outside corner. There’s the strike. Man at second. And that is out of play. Ball inside. And the sweeper misses for a ball. Down in the dirt, swing, and a miss. Gets to it onto first. Safe at first as they can’t make the play. So he’s able to reach first base despite the strikeout and that extends the inning. Kind of a tough turn of events for the defense there. Yeah, that’s maybe a little bit of a morale killer for a second. You think you’re about to go hit, but really quickly you have to refocus and be ready for the next play. We’ll see if they can work around it. First and second, two outs. Now it’s going to be Matt Chapman right through there for a strike. Well, they’re really running up the pitch count in this first inning. Lots of confidence from this team that is perhaps the hottest in baseball right now. Two on, two outs. Chapman checks his swing. Now it appealed to first and he held back according to Larry Bullard. Hard hit to third. They take the force out. And that is that. Giants leave a couple. Now the Cardinals will see what they can do. There’s no score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Bush Stadium. And today’s starter number 77 and Singi. It’s unique these days, but he’s more of a pitch to contact type of guy. Yeah, Boogie. He doesn’t rely too heavily on the strikeout. He knows he needs to miss barrels, get some soft contact, let the defense do work behind him. And I think a guy like that can keep a good tempo, don’t give hitters time to adjust or think, they can move through a ball game and you look off, they’re in line for a quality start. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Lars Nbar, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. that misses the zone. Ball two. And there’s a ball. [Applause] And that one fouled off. Look out. That ball was smoked. Man, I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just to ensure safety for the fans. Last thing as a player, you want to look up and see a fan get hit. Struck him out looking with the off speed stuff. Clearly looking out over the plate on that outer third and that pitch finished right down the middle just a little bit in and he couldn’t pull the trigger. And now it’s Ivon Herrera. Ball one there. One out. Base is empty. Next offering is fouled back. One down. Base is empty. Falling behind. Two and one. Pop foul out of play off to the right. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with the fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Cut on and lift it in the air. Lee makes his way towards it. Can’t get to it. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Batting third. First baseman Nolan. Here’s Nolan Gorman. [Applause] And that’s way high. And that is ball one. Come on. Just off the inside edge. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. Well, they came right at him right there. Challenged him with the 20 fast ball. Not sure exactly what he was looking for, but got to imagine that’s a confidence boost. Schmidt. There’s one on to Smith. Two. It’s on to inning number two in St. Louis. No score. Back here in St. Louis all set for the start of the inning. And now the center fielder Jung Hulie. Get out of here. McGrevy back to work. That one finds the zone. It’s 0 and one. Well, Boog, here’s a little background info on Jung Hu Lee. He hit for the highest batting average in KBO history, which included a ton of doubles. Plus, he took home five gold gloves. He’s a player that helps the team with his bat and defensively. Everything came together for him. Just a very nice approach and swing right there to use the big part of the field. Everything was on time. He stayed balanced through the entire swing and just launched that one into center. Casey Schmidt, the next Giant to hit and that clips the inside corner. [Applause] No score here in the second. Next offering is fouled back. The O2 knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. 0 and two now and a foul ball. He stays alive. That one ripped. That’s back there. And it’s gone. Home run. His 11th of the year. It’s two nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. He thought he could blow a high fast ball by him, but he was ready for it. Look at how quickly he jumped on that pitch. And digging in for San Francisco, Drew Gilbert popped up to the left into foul ground. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it, makes the grab. One down. Knight catcher. Patrick Bailey. Patrick Bailey, the next Giant to hit. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. Check swing. Now it’ll appeal to third. No swing. Gary Simmons with the call. That’s out to center field. Scott sizing this one up. Squeezes it and there’s two down. Up next for the Giants leftielder. Here’s Elliot Ramos. Lent off this game with a double and a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Base is empty. Two away, but two runs are in here in the top of the second. Oh, that hit him. He is safe. And that was bang bang at first. And now they’ll hustle out to check on him. That was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee. Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to. It’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue. man aboard. And here is Devers over to first and he’s saved in there for a strike at the top of the zone. Ramos off of first with two away. And it’s fouled away. Comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt onto first and it’s in time for the third out. So that’ll end the inning. And now a man into scoring position, but two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. It’s now a two nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Bottom of the second now up for St. Louis. Mason Win singing when the year’s over, he’ll have a new careerhigh for RBI’s in a season. First pitch just misses. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Pulls it down and he makes the catch. And there’s one away catcher. Jimmy Crooks. Next up for the Cardinals. Let’s go, Jimmy. There’s a swing and a drive and it’s into the gap around first and hustling for second. Not stopping. He’s going for three. The relay throw. Not in time. He’s safe. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Absolutely smoked the baseball. It just jumped off the lumber. And when you’re able to find a gap like that, boo, you’re even looking for a triple. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Thomas Sajay. Cardinal. This one in the dirt and well done to keep it close. One away with a runner at third inside and the count is two and0. Patrick Johnson calling the balls and strikes. Pretty standard zone for Johnson. Sometimes he might get a little jumpy, a little excited and expand the zone, but usually you at least feel like the pitcher on the mound is earning it. And that’s important because you got to make players earn it. That misses. And now three and one. And ball four, two aboard. Batty seven rightielder Jordan Walker next up for the Cardinals. [Applause] Ground ball right side. Could be two. Fires to second for one. Back to the pitcher covering. It’s a double play. Nicely done. And that’ll do it. One hit in the inning, a triple, but they leave him stranded. End of two here at Bush Stadium. It’s the Giants two and the Cardinals nothing. And we’re back. Top half of the third inning and digging in for San Francisco, Willie Adams. Adamus getting to start at shortstop. 29 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic on the ground dives and he can’t hang on. The throw won’t get there in time. He’s in safely and now there’s a runner at first. No problem beating out the infield hit right there. Good hustle getting down the line. That’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle. Hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly. But you can’t really blame the defense in that case. Now it’s Dominic Smith. He’s 0 for one outside. In the air, left field down the line. Dbar in a dead sprint. tries to make the play, but it’s fouled. And there’s a rocket into the outfield. Rounds third headed for the plate. He’ll score. Well done. Drives in the run. When you connect and it jumps off your bat like that, you’re thinking double at the very least. Put a great swing on it and man, he wasn’t fooled at all. And here is Matt Chapman. And first off is fouled off. All these Giants doing a good job of simply getting the bat on the ball in this game. And the numbers back that up. They’re hitting everything thrown at them. and their contact rate is in the low 90s. It’s like they know what’s coming and that’s just pretty ridiculous what they’re doing right now. Those numbers are well above the major league average. That one missed. Smith leads off second with nobody out. Breaking ball in there got him looking. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Jung Hu Lee the next to hit. One for one with a single and a run scored so far. Ground ball up the middle lays out but he can’t squeeze it. No throw. And now they have runners at the corners. Up next for the Giants, second base. Two on, one out. And up next for San Francisco, Casey Schmidt. He’s already homerred in this game. Highf fly ball pretty well struck out towards right center. That’s back and off the base of the wall. One run is in. Right past his coach headed for the plate. He’ll score. Two runs are in and the lead is up to five. Nicely done. Brings home two. So close to blasting that one out of here the other way. But that’s very tough to do when you take on the outfield gap like that. Beautiful swing though. Let the ball get a little deep and drove it to the opposite field. Here comes a manager out of the Cardinals dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Michael McGrevy gives way and he leaves a runner at third. So, we’ll see how the next pitcher deals with that when we get back. They hand the ball over to a new arm, Chris Royoft. I think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard. Just doesn’t have the same intensity to it. But he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score. And up next for the Giants, Drew Gilbert. He’s 0 for one. And a strike on the outside corner going one. Runner on to third. One gone. He swings and fouls one off. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch out to center. He makes the grab. Runner tags from third. It’s a sack fly as he comes across to score and it’s now a six-run lead. Man, there’s a sack fly to bring home another run in this inning. These hitters are just piling it on. We’re seeing some really quality at bats out of this team right now. On the ground to first and that’s just foul. Four runs already in the frame. We’re here in the top half of inning number three and a foul ball. That one drifts inside. And now two and two. [Applause] on the outside corner. Got him looking. Four runs in the inning on four hits, no errors, and no one left on. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Giants six and the Cardinals nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now here’s a speed threat. outfielder Victor Scott. Line drive and makes the grab and there’s one down. Clearly ready to hit right there. First pitch of the inning hits a bullet and it just is one of those bad luck abs. Josemine now at the plate. You can do it. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95 lined and that’s a base hit and that turns the lineup over. Up next for the Cardinals back to the top of the lineup. Next to hit, Lars Nbar went down on strikes his first time through. That misses the zone and that’s ball one. Fine over at first with one away and another ball. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound. in this situation ahead 200. He’s put himself in a really good spot. Swing and a miss. Now two and one. Good two- change up right there. I mean, as a hitter, you have it in the back of your mind, but you have to sit fast. Now this ball is well hit. This one’s got a chance. And out of here and they cut into the deficit. It’s 6-2. That swing just injected more drama into this one. [Applause] Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. Base is empty. One away. And now Ivon Herrera one for one with a single so far. And first offering is fouled off. That one pushed foul. The O2 swing at a line drive. That’s a base hit into center field. Just kind of sliced that one into center. Good two- strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for Som. So, that was nicely done to beat the odds. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. One gone runner at first. Nolan Gorman will hit next. top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. Man at first, one away. That one fouled off. twins and misses. It’s a strikeout. Went back to the fast ball and it was effective. Just overmatched on that fast ball right there. And it wasn’t like he was set up for it by something off speed earlier in the at bat. Just came right after him with three straight and he had no answer for it. Adamus. They get the force. That’s the third out. Inning over. Two runs for St. Louis on this blast. It’s now 62. Start of the fourth. Now it’s the Giants leadoff hitter, Elliot Ramos. Elliot Ramos. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Hard ground ball. Base knock. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Up next for the Giants, the designated that clips the corner. Nobody out. Runner at first. Cardinal. And that one is inside. Clober to right field. Way back gone. Are you kidding me? He circles the bases. His second home run of the series. And they add to the lead. It’s 8-2. That’s a swing that’ll boost the win probability for sure. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Willia Adamus digs in now and there’s the strike. Come on. Let’s go. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole, he’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. [Applause] Nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame. Top half of inning number four. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. Now that Dominic Smith the next to hit [Applause] first pitch not close. Still only one out here in the inning. That’s off the inside corner. Two and 0. just missed. That one’s in there. Strike one. [Applause] Yeah, that’s fouled off. Caught him looking for the K. Well, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there. And I don’t think he was taking it, thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. And first offering is fouled off. Two out. Space is empty. That one to first and foul ball. Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. The Giants strike for a pair as you get another look at the two-run dinger. And this is now an 82 ball game. Back after this on the show. Back here in St. Louis, John Chambi and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Jimmy Crooks. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike and ball one. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. hit hard to the ground and up the middle. Base hit. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. Now batting down the third baseman Thomas Sajay-Z walked his first time. Outside low and that’s ball one. Crooks gets his lead at first. Nobody out. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Kelly just threw that fast ball by him. Elevated. And if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. Struck him out looking. So digging in, Jordan Walker, rightielder Jordan Walker. Squang at a highf fly ball. Well struck. See you later. And they close the gap. It’s 84. wasn’t fooled on the first pitch at all. He squared it up right away. [Applause] You feel like everything goes slow motion when a breaking ball like that leaves the hand right down the middle of the plate and it’s like the pitcher screaming no and the hitter saying yes and the ball gets tattooed for a big home run. Fouled off left side base is empty. one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth and a foul ball. Swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt. Bailey down to first and there’s two gone following the strike out. Well, that’s such a critical pitch in terms of execution right there. the pitcher has to finish it otherwise probably gets hit pretty hard. If you leave that out over the plate or you don’t get it down enough, quickly turns into something that gets smoked. But if you can place it where he did, it’s a really deceptive pitch. Now here is Jose Fairmine. That’s in for a strike. out towards right center. That’s well struck and that should be extra bases. Now he’ll turn for second in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. So the lineup flips over Lars Nbar next up for the Cardinals. He’s already homerred here in this one. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. [Applause] Yeah, they’re swinging a miss. One in one. The one-1 is fouled off. Two outs and one in scoring position. Gets a piece and stays alive. One more, baby. Let’s go. Pitch misses inside and it’s to a two. Whacked out to center field. That’s well struck back there. Gone onto the grass hill for a homer. Another homer. His second home run of the game. It’s 86. [Applause] Oh, that one got in the jetream on a line drive. We saw the numbers on the backs of the jerseys of the outfielders, which is usually bad news. And all of a sudden, they’re back in this ball game. Two outs, nobody on. Ivon Herrera next up for the Cardinals. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. And that keeps the inning alive. Now batting first baseman Nolan. And up next for St. Louis, Nolan Gorman. That’s a strike and it’s 0 and one. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there and have a real quick inning. Get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. Two outs in the air to left center. Ramos sizes this one up and that will end the inning. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 86. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Sunny Gray. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big erra. So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. Jung Hu Lee getting ready to hit. He’s two for two. And the first pitch is drilled in the air out to center. Scott calls it in and there’s one away. Really nice job to get your first out of the ball game. Now batting second base. Now it’s the second baseman Casey Schmidt. Let’s go Cardinals. That’s a ball. Tried the sweeper. Action in the St. Louis bullpen. Andre Palante up and throwing. Number 49 also getting ready. One down. Base is empty. down on Hammer but pulled fouled late with the swing there. Hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Now batting rightielder Drew Gilbert. Drew Gilbert will hit next. And that one is lifted in the air. Scott moving under this one. They got it for out number two. [Applause] Now batting catcher Patrick Bailey. And digging in for San Francisco, Patrick Bailey. Bowl for two in this one. St. Louis. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. Schmidt off of first with two away. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. lead runner to second with two gone. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground ball. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. And up next for San Francisco, Elliot Ramos pitch misses. One and0. First and second, two down and we’re in the top of the fifth. Just missed. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. That one finds the zone and it’s two and one now. swing and a fly ball well struck left field. Scott on the move reaching for it makes the catch. Giants leave a couple. They lead it 8-6. [Applause] We head to the bottom of the fifth. And now the shorts stop. Mason win. Mason win. Turned on but foul wide of third. You know, these Cardinals digging into their numbers. Have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far. And that tells me they’re seeing the ball out of the pitcher hand really well. Fair ball. Makes the turn and heads for second. The throw in, not in time. That’s a leadoff double. He quickly went from hitter to base runner. Love when guys make that transition. And he’s got speed to put on a show. Runner in scoring position. No outs. And now the Cardinals catcher, Jimmy Krooks. That’s a little bit low. With all those extra base hits, it’s easy to think we’re going to see that trend continue the rest of the game. They seem to be really locked in at the plate. Hit in the air left field. Lee turns to the right on the move. Makes the catch for the one down. Now batting third base Thomas now up for St. Louis Thomas Sajay-Z he is struck out and he is walked. It’s interesting he plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well. So when you’re looking at that position you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed but he does. just missed. And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed, it makes the whole team that much better. As a pitcher, you know, the runner on second is ready to push things with this speed. A base hit, it’s probably going to be a big run, so you really have to execute on the mound. Here comes the pitch. Swing and a miss and he got him. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Jordan Walker digs in now. Check swing called strike. All the count on second, two down. Hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning. So one left for the Cardinals. Can’t cut into an 86 deficit. Top six and it’s Raphael Devers in the box. Raphael Des Gray in his 12th season, more than 100 career wins on the mound. A former first round pick back in 2011. Well, these Giants, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. They have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far, and that tells me they’re seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well. Will Thomas the next to hit, one for three, that misses off the outside edge. With all those extra base hits, it’s easy to think we’re going to see that trend continue the rest of the game. They seem to be really locked in at the plate. The 10. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. Both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. Two. Devils aboard here at first with nobody out. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Nabs it one away. [Applause] Now batting first baseman Dominic Smith. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Dominic Smith. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. Let’s go Cardinal. Go Cardinal. Next offering is fouled back. [Music] Got him looking. That was pretty nasty. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So, he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. Chappie steps to the dish to take his cuts. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. Here’s a rocket out to left. Nbar right there to make the grab. And that is that. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. 891 scheduled in the bottom of the sixth. It’s the Giants eight and the Cardinals six. Back now for the bottom of the sixth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Matt Gates, left-handed batter at the plate and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So, this seems like a calculated move. Victor Scott now at the plate. The pitch swing and a pop off in foul ground. makes the catch and there’s one away. One pitch, one out. Now batting Jose Jose Fairine. Next up for the Cardinals dives, but it kicks off his glove. He makes the throw, but it’s not in time. And they catch a break as they get a base runner at first. Clearly seeing the ball very well in this one. Fielder got a piece of it, but the way that thing came off the bat, no surprise at all. He couldn’t pick it cleanly. It’s a very difficult play. And that swing definitely was deserving of a hit. And now let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. Here’s the left fielder, Lars Nbar. He’s got a couple homers already. So, can he possibly do it again? Come on, man. Of course he can. And those two he hit were legit. And he looks pretty locked in right now at the dish. [Applause] Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. The lefty, the one, swinging a foul out of play with the tying run at the plate here in the bottom of the sixth. That one the other way. Offbalance feed. There’s one. And that’s two. They made it look easy, but it started with a nice feed to the second base from the shortstop. Perfect turn and they’re out of this jam. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Number 49. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him. And now it’s going to be Jung Huli. Centerielder Jungard fouled off. He was late. him out. Swing and a popup. Fine. Drifts towards it. Drops into the glove. One down. [Applause] Up next for the Giants, second baseman Casey Schmidt. So up next, Casey Schmidt. And he’s already left his mark on this game. He certainly has, Boo. A two-run shot in the second inning. And that made an early impact on this game in a big way. And that one is lifted in the air. Scott under it. makes the grab for the second out. Now batting right fielder Drew Gilbert. Drew Gilbert getting ready to hit. That’s a strike 0 and one. Movement in the bullpen for the Cardinals. Andre Palante getting loose out there. Cardinal popped up to the left into foul ground. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it. He’s there. He’s got it. And that is that. Now pitching. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Joey Liu Casey. Should be a good first matchup for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. Ivon Herrera digs in now. Three for three with three singles. Herrera. Swing and a ball lifted in the air left field. Pretty well struck. That’s back there. And it is gone. That should put a jolt into this home crowd. It’s 8-7. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one, Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. Welcome to the game. First pitch out of the bullpen. A tough one. And you know, he’s just trying to get one in there for a strike. And on the other side is a hitter. It’s a great time to be aggressive and let it fly. It’s not what they were looking for when they turned to him. But now he’s got to find a way to reset. So digging in Nolan Gorman. breaking ball misses down and away. Always exciting to see a leadoff home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. And another ball holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh. Liner snagged at first. Yikes. That ball was scorched in absolute missile. And it almost becomes self-defense as the fielder. When one of those things comes screaming towards you, watch your lips. And the batter will be the shortstop. Mason win. This one chopped on the ground but foul. Trying to keep good speed off the bases. [Music] Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. Well, don’t expect too many more high fast balls. This is a good sinker ball pitcher and sometimes they can make mistakes trying to pitch up in the zone. Look for him to stay down around the knees to be effective. Looking to get the tying run on base. That one is absolutely belted. way back there. Gone. Straight into the visitors bullpen. That one’s got to feel good. It’s their second home run of the inning. And we are all tied up. It’s 88. That’s their fifth homer of the game. Man, they’re all getting into the action. It’s starting to feel like a home run derby up here. [Applause] For a pitcher, the odds are in your favor if you keep that breaking ball down. That time he got punished for it. Hitter just did a really good job of staying within himself and getting the barrel to the baseball. Manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Joey Lucasy will depart and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now pitching Tristan Beck into the game. 25th appearance of the year for him. Tristan Beck. So it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. And now Jimmy Crooks. That one off the mark. Ball one. [Applause] and a big swing and a miss. Good eye right there. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. I’m not sure that was the exact location the pitcher wanted, but it worked. He got the swing and miss. And I’m sure a bit of sigh of relief after seeing that one go through the zone. Thomas Sajay-Z next up for the Cardinals. And the first offering is not close. on the ground to third. What was that over to Smith and that is that but two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working all even now at eight apiece. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here at Bush Stadium. New inning getting started. And here is Patrick Bailey. [Applause] That one finds the zone. And that’s strike one. Action in the pen down there. Jojo Romero, a lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. The one and there’s a ball. Next pitch is downstairs. Right through there for a strike [Applause] on its way to the corner and no one can get to it. It’s a foul ball. Hot shot to third. tosses to first. One up, one down. Up next for the Giants, leftielder Elliot Ramos. Next to hit, Elliot Ramos. In there and it’s 0 and one. All tied up and we’re in the top of the eighth. swing and breaks his back and it’s caught for the out. Raphael Devers up to hit. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Scott makes the catch and that’ll do it. Bottom of the eighth and stepping in for the Cardinals, Jordan Walker. Jordan Walker. Beck back to work. Rolled softly, but that goes foul. [Music] To the left side, but it is well foul. Got him swinging. Unbelievable. It’s a good breaking ball there just off the corner where you can’t really do much damage, but it’s close enough to where you got to protect and he just couldn’t find a way to fight it off. Victor Scott next up for the Cardinals in the air left field. And there’s two away now. Batting. And up next for St. Louis, Jose Fairine. Three for three with two singles and a double. [Applause] just missed at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. That one in there across the letters. One ball, two straight. And that’s in the dirt [Applause] in the dirt and the count’s full. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another swing at a ball popped up. Schmid makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. Three up, three down that time. Ninth inning coming up. We are deadlocked at eight apiece. Now, here comes the closer here in the ninth, Jojo Romero. And he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits, period. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Willie Adam. Willie Adam. Well, he’s been having a great year this year and hitting home runs at a good clip and the matchup is very favorable. First offering misses badly for ball one on the ground right side down the line and it’s fouled. swinging a ground ball up the middle and they get a Damus for the out. So here’s the cleanup hitter Dominic Smith. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. And what you tell yourself is, I want to stay square to the plate, try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Ball one. Action in the St. Louis bullpen. Jorge Alcala preparing to come on if needed. St. Louis. One down. Base is empty. And that drops in for a strike. All sliders so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count. And clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. This to third. sends it to Gorman and that quickly two away. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Here’s Matt Chapman. Right through there for a strike. Romero 28 years old and he was drafted in the fourth round back in 2016. That breaking ball is in for a strike and quickly it is nothing at two. Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Walker makes the grab and that is that. No runs, no hits, no errors. To the bottom of the ninth we go. Top of the order do up. We are deadlocked at eight apiece. Back here in St. Louis now the left fielder Lars Nbar. One more time and fouled off. There’s a strike. Movement in the bullpen. Ryan Walker getting ready to come in for Bob Melvin. [Applause] And it finds its way through for a hit. I’d say a mistake pitch in an 02 count. Too good of a pitch to hit right there. You have to expand the zone. Keep that leadoff man off first base. making a move at first. Cardinals going with a pinch runner. Garrett Hamson. No outs. Runner at first. Now it’s the DH. Ivon Herrera known for his late inning heroics. There goes the runner. Let’s go. Check on the runner and he’s back in there. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in the scoring position. Next offering is in for a strike with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. And that’s outside. This is a great dynamic right here. Speedy runner at first, thinking about taking second. catcher with the pop time that leaves Jaws on the floor. This might get interesting, Boo. This one in the dirt in there safely. Hamson into scoring position on the wild pitch. And there goes the double play possibility. Definitely trying to work down and get that double play ball, but it got away enough to erase any chance of that. Good job of moving up into scoring position. Now a hit could make that wild pitch really sting. The winning run on second base on the ground right side throws to first in time. One out. Bottom of the ninth. Up next for the Cardinals. First baseman Nolan. Nolan Gorman next up for the Cardinals. 0 for four. A couple of flyouts. He’s also grounded out and struck out. And this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right here. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Definitely a strikeout situation right here. Lots of ways for that go-ahead run to score if the ball’s put in play. And that one fouled off. Well, he missed a hitable offspe pitch right there. Not sure exactly with the timing. Sometimes you get a backup breaking ball. You’re expecting it to make its move at the end. It never does. And you’re tied up. Squirts away a little bit. And an excellent job keeping it right there. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Oh, that’s a huge strike out right there. Big second out. Infield was in. They were playing the fullcourt press and he got the swing and miss. Keeps this one tied. This next at bat should be a lot of fun. The odds of wiggling out of this just went up considerably. And now the shorts stop. Mason win. Sliced hard but foul. Winning run at third. Two down. That’s in there. And that’s strike two. [Music] [Music] Foul tip. Strike three. That’s the third out. And we’re headed to extras. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. On to extra innings. stepping in. Jung Huli Hul. Here’s the pitch. Runner on the move. That’s in for a strike. Wide throw and it gets away. He’ll score easily. Nine to eight now. Oh, this has been a good tight game so far. But now that error looms pretty large. I got to think that’s going to weigh on him for a little while and unless somehow they can come back and win this thing. Just off the inside edge. and the next pitch is way outside. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You could tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. That’s down and in. Highf fly ball out towards left field. That’s got a chance. Reaching for it and brings it in. No, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Looking to complete the cycle with a double and that’s in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Andre Palante getting ready to go. Ley warming up as well. Next offering is in for a strike. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you’d have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit. And not an easy one to throw either. He makes the catch and there’s two down. rightielder. Now it’s the right fielder, Drew Gilbert. And that’s in there for strike one. Two down, base is empty, but one run across. And here in extra innings, pitch misses there. And now it’s even one and one. And a swing and a miss there. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. St. Louis fights that one away. Still one and two. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of the 10th to the right side. Gorman. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So they get one run on no hits, an error, and no one left. Last chance to even things up. We head to the bottom of inning number 10. It’s the Giants nine. Yeah, the Cardinals eight. So the closer summon from the bullpen, Ryan Walker, and he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. Ryan Walker. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Jimmy Crooks now at the plate. [Music] [Applause] That one drilled left field and a base hit right there. Run comes in from second. It’s an RBI single and they’ve tied it again. Such great concentration. Everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing and there he doesn’t try to do too much. Thomas Sajay next up for the Cardinals. 0 for three in this one. And he pops up the bunt over to Smith. One out the bottom of the tenth. Bell just doing his part right there. Trying to move that runner into scoring position. Got it down successfully. Now we’ll see if they can drive him in from second. Walker. So up next, Jordan Walker. And there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd, right? I mean, yeah, I’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure. Edge of the zone for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Now just a submit mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. Man at second gets the call. No balls, two strikes. He’s falling behind in a huge spot. Boo. Got to do what it takes to come through. Maybe choke up on the bat a little bit. Spread out those feet. Whatever it takes. Sets him down looking. Strike three called and a slider at the knees. I don’t know what he’s looking for right there. You have to be ready to swing the bat. You can walk it off if you’re just a little more aggressive. Victor Scott next up for the Cardinals. He’s one of the faster guys just by pure sprint speed in the majors. That’s towards center. Lee sizing this one up and that’s the third out. So, one run on one hit, no errors and a runner left. We push on to the 11th and we are tied 99 back now and we’re in extras. A new arm on the mound here in the top half of the inning. Jorge Alcala 50th time he’s come into a game this year. Go ahead run on base. Patrick Bailey getting ready to hit right through there for a strike. And I know you want to be patient as a hitter, but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight. And he got one right there, but left the bat on his shoulder. Fast ball in the inside corner for a strike. Well, if he’s going to do something special right here, it’s going to have to happen with two strikes. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Well, often times that’s the pitch he’s trying to set off, the curve ball. He’ll lean on it pretty heavily. So, you got to be expecting it. Look for it and sell out so you don’t miss it when you get it. And up next for the Giants, Elliot Ramos. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. Come on. [Applause] Just missed. Going to count one and two. [Applause] That one missed. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished a little up and in just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it swings through it and that’s a strike out. Nice work there to get the strike out and that’s a big second out. I’ll tell you this home crowd will be fired up. They can get out of this and leave that go ahead run stranded in scoring position. This is a big moment in this game. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Now it’s Devers at the plate. And Devers hits that one. Scott sizes this one up, makes the grab, and that’s the third out. One left for San Francisco, and this remains a 99 ball game. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now up for St. Louis. Jose Fairmine. Walker back to work in for a strike. Good slider. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. This one in the air. Smith makes the grab. One away. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. Here’s Garrett Hson. Came into the game as a pinch runner. This is his first trip to the plate in this one. Ripped to short in plenty of time to first. Hampson is out. Up next for the Cardinals designated hitter Ivon. Now here is Ivon Herrera. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one. Cardinal [Applause] on the ground right side. Whips it to first in time. St. Louis goes down in order. So, it’s no runs, no base hits, no errors, and one left on. 12th inning coming up and we are tied 99 onto the 12th and digging in for San Francisco, William. Listen, there’s absolutely no reason to pitch to this guy right here. You nibble, you see if he’ll expand his zone, but don’t give him anything to hit. If you walk him, not a big deal. You have a double play opportunity set up. The shorts stop takes a ball. And another ball. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. Would love to see him get the green light even with the three 0 count right here. Let’s see if he can create some magic. And there’s the automatic [Applause] and a popup right side foul territory. He’s under it. Hauls it in for the owl. [Applause] making a move at second base. Entering is the pinch runner, Grant McCrae. Grant McCrae. Now at the plate, Dominic Smith. Well, first base open. Really no reason to pitch to this hitter right here. Put him on. Have the force at second first. Perhaps getting inning ending double play. And that’s outside. just missed and that’s a little bit high and it’s 3 and 0. Back to back breaking pitches away, you get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So I think the confidence level is raised right here. in for a strike. Now three and one. Ball four. He walked him and that keeps things going. Now batting third base Matt Chapman. Matt Chapman to the plate in this high leverage situation. Outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter. And that one off the outside edge. It’s a big opportunity right here. But I love the way he’s slowing the game down. He’s shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit. Puts it in the air out towards left center. Scott settles under this one. Brings it in. That’s out number two. Now batting center. [Music] Jung Huli, the next giant to hit. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That clips the corner. That was just paint on the first pitch fast ball. That misses one and one with the go ahead run standing at second here in extra innings. Breaking ball inside and it’s two in one. Really been able to slow down the game tonight with his at bats and the biggest one he’s had so far. He doesn’t look anxious at all. And that one in the air center field. squeezes it and that’s the third out. Giants leave a couple and our score remains tied at nine apiece. Now pitching for back here in extras and a new pitcher on the mound in the bottom half of the inning. JT Brewaker gets an opportunity to square off against his former team. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out a little extra jacked up right here. And now Nolan Gorman. Oh, how he’d love to walk it off right here. Late swing fouled to the left. Line drive. Base hit. runner around third on his way to the plate. In comes the winning run and the Cardinals win it in 12. [Applause] You know, he had to feel the pressure. Winning run on second base. Found a way to make solid contact and the winning run comes across to score. Everyone going crazy. Exciting finish to this game today. And a one-run game as this one ends 109. A oneun extra inning win for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shambi. We’ll see you soon.
