Miami Dolphins Rumors BEFORE NFL Week 1 On Tua Tagovailoa, Mike McDaniel, Chop Robinson | Q&A
[Music] In less than 24 hours, the Miami Dolphins are playing a meaningful football game. On today’s show, we are going to look at the latest questions and rumors from Dolphins fans heading into week one. I am Nick Rolloff. This is Dolphins Today by Chat Sports. CJ Gurierrez with the opening question. appreciate the $10 super chat from our Thursday live show. Make sure you join us on those Thursday live shows if you haven’t already. Where do you rank Tua out of all the QBs in the NFL? Um, I think I did this little segment live. I would have him ranking anywhere between 14 and I think 19. Um, I did the math tua. Um, Jaden Daniels, this is not in any order, but Jane Daniels, Momes, Burrow, Allen, Lamar, um, Dak Prescott, I would take over them. Uh, I’m already missing some of the names. Uh, Stafford, um, man, I’m blanking on names, but there are, oh, Baker Mayfield’s out there. The point is, I have him about third or 14, 15, 16. I have him in the Brock Pery tier, a Justin Herbert tier. Uh Gino Smith, I think that’s very fair, but uh that’s kind of where I have two around. Paul with a question. How many games can McDaniel lose in the beginning of the season before the front office seriously considers firing? Well, the Dolphins front office doesn’t really fire coaches halfway through the year, just so you know that. Um, but if the Dolphins, let’s say, started two and six, Ari Gold, I’ll see you. I mean, he just couldn’t be here. The opening eight games of the season are so favorable for Miami. You have, I think, a relatively easy opening game. Even though the Dolphins are underdogs according to Vegas, I think it’s a must-win, should win game against the Colts. Uh, you should be able to beat New England at home in week two. You should be able to beat the Jets at home in week four. So you’re projecting in my opinion a should be Dolphins 3 in1 football team at worst and then in the second month of the year you play the Browns, the Panthers and then the Falcons and Chargers. You should absolutely go at worst two and two in that stretch. So I’m thinking at worst throughout the first eight games you should be five and three. I’m hoping for six and two. Six and two would be splendid. Five and three is bare minimum. But if you’re two and six, that means you are just having no grasp on this team. You probably would have lost the locker room by that point. So if the Dolphins go two and six throughout September and October, yeah, I would probably fire him in November. But will the Dolphins do it? Probably not. They’d probably wait till the end of the season. But if you want more on the Miami Dolphins, this is the handle for you. Nick_Roloff is my ex Twitter handle. If Dolphins ever did fire McDaniel, we’d have the news and reaction first over there. Go follow me right now for news, rumors, highlights, and everything you need. Brother VR, which week do you see Rousul Douglas becoming a starter, or do you think he’ll stay as depth? Well, if we’re going to be honest, the hope should be he is never a starter because if he is never a starter for the Dolphins, that means your actual two starting corners, Storm Duck and Jack Jones, stayed healthy and played really, really well. But I will have to imagine one of them will get banged up or one of them will struggle to where it would make sense to actually start Rousul Douglas. Now, I could see that happening in week two or week three. Could even see it happening in week four. Like, it’s hard to project. Like, if they struggle against the Colts, well, you’re probably starting Rul Douglas in week two because the Colts don’t have a good passing attack. They struggle in week two. Well, maybe Douglas gets that start against his old team because he knows what they like to do offensively against the Bills. And then if you get torched against Josh Allen, yeah, you definitely got to rule him out there in week four um against the Jets. Point is, you hope that he doesn’t start because you want Jack Jones and Storm Duck to succeed. But if I had to give my prediction on when Douglas is most likely a starting outside corner, um probably would be week three against the Bills. Joey D, do you think Chop Robinson will become our TJ type of player or Parsons this season? I I think he does. I think he does. Now, I will pump down the hype a little bit. Joey D. TJ Watt is one of the more incredible edge rushers that we have ever seen. He is an absolute gamecher. He over the last five years has averaged what 17 18 sacks. He had a 20 sack season, one deep. But the reason why he is so phenomenal is the way he’s able to defend the run and make difference. Like the amount of fumbles that he forces is just absolutely ridiculous. Chop Robinson as a pass rusher can get to that tier. I think he absolutely can, but he needs to hone in on his ability to stop the run a little bit more as well. You see it. I fully expect and believe Chop Robinson can have 10 plus sacks this year and I think he will be a top five deep odds guy. going into 2026, assuming he’s able to build on what he did a year ago where in the final 10 weeks of the year, he was a consensus top five edge rusher according of every pro football focus advanced metric. So, you’re asking me, I mean, this guy’s in for a massive season and that’s the expectation for me as well. I hope it happens. But if you had to ask if he’s more likely becoming a Micah Parsons or TJ Watt, probably more of a Micah because both of those guys are extremely athletic, have their deficiencies in the run game while TJ Watt’s on a different breed. Let me know what is your biggest key to victory in week one. We’re less than 24 hours away from week one. Let me know which is the biggest aspect of the game that you’re focusing on. Chad Jones says, “How many sacks do you think Miami will get this year?” Okay, this is a great question. Let me look at the exact number they had last season. Well, I guess I can do the quick math. They averaged 2.1 sacks per game a year ago. 2.1* 17 is probably 35 36 total. So, it’s let’s say it’s 35 36. I would probably double that at minimum. I’m thinking 80 sacks. I’m thinking 80. 35.7 is the math. Shout out to Coupe. Quick math by me. You know that not bad, folks. Not bad. Um I’m saying 80. I think the leading sack team got 100 last year. So I think 100’s possible, but I’ll stay modest and go with 80. I really think Chop gets 10. Let’s say Chub and Phillips both get eight or nine. So now we’re already at what is that? 30 37. Now we’re talking Caler probably with another eight or nine. We’re at 46. Um, you’ll get some Judon four or five. Now we’re at 51. You get a sack or two from a couple corners, couple linebackers, and that’s where you climb up to that 80 number. I think that’s a fair number. But who knows, maybe one of those guys I just mentioned explodes and they get like 15, 16 sacks and now you’re talking 85, 86, 87 sacks. Like, let’s just say this. Last year they got 35 sacks. This year I would assume minimum doubled to 70. 70 is the baseline for me. 80 is probably a realistic expectation. More questions to answer here in a second. But hey, when you guys ask question, I have to make a decision on how I want to answer that question. Well, decisions on prize picks can actually get you paid where it pays to be right on prize picks. It’s so easy to play. You just pick more or less on two to six player stat projections. It’s good to be right. Lost Texan with a question. I feel as if Tua can be a top five QB in the league. We’ve seen it when he finished six in MVP MVP voting uh 2023, not 2024. If he’s healthy all year, do you see the potential for the Fins to go? Is there more to this question? Scrolling up in the live chat on Thursday, uh I mean, I feel like there has to be more. I don’t know. Maybe there is. I don’t know. Sorry. But does he have the penalty top five? No, I don’t. He could be a top 10 QB in football. Top five? No. Like I I’m sorry. I think he can. He’s He does a lot of things elite. He is elite with his accuracy. He is elite with his anticipation and the way he runs this Dolphins offense. But do I ever think he will be in the Jaden Daniels, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Momes, Josh Allen talk? No. Like I think the top four quarterbacks are undisputed. You could rank them any way you want, but it’s Lamar, Burrow, Allen, and Momes. And then you’re telling me Tua has to be better than the rest. Even in Tua’s best year, I would not classify him as the fifth guy there. So, I don’t think it’s possible for Tua to be a top five guy. Top 10 guy, sure. And listen, as long as you have a top 10 quarterback, you can win a Super Bowl. Um, we saw it with Jaylen Herz. Um, you got a good team, you got a good roster, all you need is a top 10 guy to get it done. So, don’t need to be a top five to win it all. be nice, but just got to be top 10, which don’t have him as one, but hopefully he gets there. All right, Dolphins fans, win or lose, we have you covered on everything Dolphins. We’ll be live tomorrow for the game. We’ll have postgame reaction. We’ll even have a late night video out as well with an early Monday and Tuesday video leading us into week two against the Patriots. Join the family here at Dolphins Today for daily coverage. How many defensive touchdowns will the Dolphins have this year? It’s a great question. Um, I wish I knew offhand how much they had a year ago. Did they even have one? I don’t think they did. Um, I’d love for someone to fact check me on that. I I don’t think they even had one last year. So, I’m going to say they they get one this year. They get one. They had zero last year. I was right. So, Coupe, thank you for looking that up. I mean, Coupe, I tell you what, he is like um Tony Reali on pardon the interruption. You ask for a stat and he’s just there in the cam ready to make it happen. I think one and and ironically enough, I’ll project Jack Jones to be the one that gets it done. Jack Jones is an absolute ball hawking corner that for better or for worse likes to jump a lot of routes and it can either make him susceptible to the double move beat deep for a touchdown, but it also could put six on the board for you. He did it in his first ever game playing for the Patriots. ironically off Aaron Rogers jumped a out route touchdown. Did it for the Raiders where they threw like a screen. Jack Jones jumped it one hand snag and for the touchdown. So Jack Jones has multiple touchdowns in the past um defensively. So if I had to say the Dolphins get one, I’ll probably say it is Jack Jones. And I do think they get at least one this year. Improvement from last year. But let me ask you on this front with touchdown scores. Who scores the first touchdown for the Dolphins on Sunday? Who is the inaugural touchdown getter for Miami? I asked y’all on Twitter. I saw a lot of people answer Achan and Ali Gordon. My answer is Jaylen Wadd. I want to see yours in the comments. Oh, Gabney Owens with a $20 super chat. Appreciate you, Gabney. Hey, Nick. Do you see the defense could be top five defense in the NFL by the end of the regular season? Um, top five, no, top 10, yes, I think the Dolphins will have a top five pass rush, but a top five pass rush isn’t all that is required to be a top five defense. I still think the limitations at corner will hold us back ever so slightly, but not enough to not make us a top 10 defense. I think the Dolphins have a top three, top five pass rushing football. I think they’ll be top 10 in run defense um due to that the linebacker play, but they might struggle at times against the pass when a good offensive line is able to give their quarterback that extra half a second to dissect our secondary. I think that could give us some issues. So, if you’re asking me, top five pass rush, yes. Top five defense, no. But a top 10 defense is absolutely on the horizon. All right, that’ll do it for our mailbag. Appreciate everybody for getting their questions in if you missed out on getting in this mailbag. I rank Tua #1 the goat.
The Colts in Indy are tougher than Dolphins fans are expecting. They have a lot of good players and the Dolphins offense hasnโt played together for a long time. Iโm expecting a struggle. Iโm gonna say 16-14 Dolphins or 14-13 Dolphins. Something like that.
What are the dolphins doing for tight end. Waller not likely to play and always injured. Like y would they trade for a player that was retired last season and has injury history. But dolphins seem to keep doing that trend. Julian Hill sucks and tanner Connor no good as well. Y didn't they sign a free agent tight end ..had so much time to get it done after trading jonnu
Biggest key to victory? Stopping the run. If Jonathan Taylor runs wild, itโs gonna be a long day. Stop the run. Make Danny Dimes beat you.
even at his best tua can't be top 5? are u kidding? did u watch or look at the stats from 2023? yes he obviously can be, but we dont' need or really want him to be. i'd prefer a good running game to balance things out.
Denver had the most sacks last year at 63. We're not getting 80 ๐
If McDaniel goes, we are looking at a rebuild and a whole new offense. A new coach will eventually want to draft his own QB of the future to match his own offensive style as well.
Coach has got to get the plays in quickly in front of a hostile crowd. Do NOT allow the play clock to tick down to zero and allow the Colts to tee off on Tua. Tua deserves quick play calls and the ability to survey the defense.
most of those QB's you listed above Tua couldn't have done any better on last year's team with how bad out O-line was and how fast Tua had to get rid of the ball. look at how bad our backups play. how many times have we heard that a backup would replace Tua before the year end only for them to play horrible behind our O-line no one gets rid of the ball like this and Tua has better stats than most of the QB's you listed above Tua. I just don't get the hate
If the Fins lose….. trade Tyreek, fire Grier and Start the Rebuild!
Tua is either 4 or 5, when healthy, no less.
80 sacks๐๐๐๐ this guy is smoking lol I say 55 sack maybe 60..all those not getting that man's sacks..chubb 6..zieler 6.. Phillips 4
If things get bad early, the next change could be Coach, GM, and ownership. Good time to buy, on one hand, and make what you can, before it gets worse, on the other hand. Ross is getting old, and we aren't contending. A bad enough start, may get the ball rolling toward an exodus.
Donโt forget to tell the head coach if your tanking
