I read something just yesterday that we’re 2nd in the league in our bullpen not blowing games. Numbers can be tricky.
It’s the difference between elite and average to below average. Skubal is on a different planet
“Why are you worried about our playoff rotation!?!”
Beyond the obvious, good lord Skube is a beast.
You’re missing:
Melton: 2.25 ERA
Imagine if Tigers didn’t need to triage the BP and have a one-two punch of Skubal and Melton in postseason.
Now imagine if we lose Skubal after next season, this team probably becomes a below average team again. The success of this franchise relies on Skubal staying with us, McGonigle and Clark don’t pitch.
There has to be some level of shame from those guys, right? They have to know that the load cannot be entirely carried by Skubal, Melton, and Finnegan.
No excuses, pitch better. Pitch like you’re getting paid millions on a first place team.
Theyre not going far with those numbers
Can Skubal pitch every day? Thanks.
Other’s have mentioned context… (not saying this is good by any chance.. )
If the Tigers win the World Series.. no one will say: “imagine what we would have done if our starters had a 1.9 era
So in a second half with a patchwork rotation, trade pieces for cheap who will long term be bullpen arms come playoffs, and Flaherty being inconsistent.
I get it’s not great, but Mize threw and extended bullpen and looked GOOD. Jack looked GOOD against KC.
We’ll run Tarik, Jack, Casey, and probably Reese and put the rest in the pen come playoffs. It’s fine guys. It’s a slog month against hard teams. This month is the important one until we lock up seedlings.
Keep the faith.
Edit: Worst case Melton starts and maybe Reese goes in the pen if his injury heals fine. He’s throwing as of yesterday.

Amazing that we’re still in the driver’s seat.
Good job Harris!
