REKAP: ⚾️ Chicago Cubs 6-3 loss to Nationals. ‘That’s what happens when you don’t go all-in!’

Welcome into the recap of the Cubs 6 to3 loss to the Washington Nationals Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field. I’m David Kaplan. It’s brought to you by our great partners at Winrust. Get your very own Cubs checky account at wintrus.com/cubs or click the QR code on your screen. That’s an awful loss. And that’s what happens when at the deadline you prospect hoarde to the degree that you don’t get an established closer on a team at that point that knew we’re probably going to the postseason. And guess what? It’s wide open in the National League to get to the World Series. Wide open. Doesn’t mean you’re going to get there, but it doesn’t mean you’re not. and you decide, according to your general manager, Carter Hawkins, well, we have to worry about the 2025 Cubs as much as the 2032 Cubs. And that’s what happens when Philly goes and gets Joan Duran from Minnesota or Helsley from the Cardinals goes out east or the Yankees at a bunch of guys and you don’t. That’s what happens. And today, they came back to bite you yet again. Let’s get into it. And it’s all brought to you by our great partners at Tasty Trade. Stocks, crypto, options, futures, whatever you trade, you should do it at tastyrade.com. That’s a pathetic loss to lose two of three at home to the awful Washington Nationals. Awful. And you take a 3-1 lead into the top of the ninth and your closer gets lit up. Embarrassing. Pathetic. That’s what it was. And that’s what happens when you don’t push your chips in. when you have a chance to win. And as a fan, you should be furious. Just keep packing the ballpark. Just keep spending your money. But guess what? When you got a chance to win, they’re not going to push the chips all in. And that sucks as a fan. Let’s get into it. I’ll take you through exactly what happened. Bottom of the second, Carson Kelly home run. His 15th. He’s had a very nice season for the Cubs. One- nothing. Top five. House out on a sack fly that brings in the game tire. It’s 1-1. Bottom five. Say a base hit to left. That brings home Nico. 2-1 Cubs. But the offense just did not get a lot going against a very mediocre Washington national pitching staff in the eighth. Carson Kelly his 16th. So it’s 3-1 going to the top of the ninth. And then Hassel homers. Now it’s a 3-2 ball game. Josh Bell, three-run home run. Now they’ve got the lead. And then house sack fly. That brings in uh Dalon Lyall who had tripled. 63. There’s your ball game. Hey Craig, at some point as I take you all through the ninth inning, did it ever dawn on you that maybe, just maybe, Daniel Palencia didn’t look very good? Here’s how the ninth inning went down. Hassel homers. There’s the first batter. Abrams singles. It was a little dribbler. CJ Abrams gets to first. James Wood walks. At some point, did you go hm home run single walk and he just didn’t look comfortable. Didn’t even think about maybe I should take him out now. He sends Tommy Hovy out and not much he can do because Josh Bell pinch hitting Josh Bell gone to left center. threerun bomb. Do you think then? Wow, he really doesn’t have it. I should take him out. Nope. Now he lets Lyall triple the deep right field. He gets a strike out, an intentional walk. Uh he says he was injured. He had had to come out there after the uh triple and in the end they deposit a six-3 loss at your doorstep. And that loss sucks. Let’s take a look at the starting pitching matchup that we like to call winging it. Brought to you by our great partners at Hooters 11 Chicago area locations. They went with Alvarez, four and two/3, three hits. You got three hits. Three hits against this dude. I mean, come on, man. What are we doing? Uh, and he uh punched out two and walked three. For the Cubs, they used Pomeran’s as an opener. He gave you a perfect inning with two Ks. And then Colin Ray was excellent. Five and a third of three hit, one run, 6K, no walk baseball. Theobbar was very good. Brad Keller was lights out. Palencia didn’t retire a batter. Four hits, five runs, all earned. No Ks, a walk, and two home runs. Porter Hodgej finished it up. Player of the game. I’ll give it to Josh Bell. He had a three-run home run to win a ball game. That’s good enough to be the apt player of the game. abt.com. There’s your promo code. Now, the look ahead, the look ahead’s not pretty because you struggled with Atlanta here. You just lost two or three to a lousy Washington Nationals team. And guess what? Now you got to go to Atlanta and then come home and play a weekend series next weekend in Chicago against a pretty gutty, very, very good fundamental Tampa Bay Rays team. That is our Studio 41 look ahead brought to you by our great partners at Studio41 Home Remodeling Showroom. Uh they have 13 locations. studio41.com. Craig Cubs, that loss stinks because guess what? At the deadline, that’s what happens when you don’t go all in. When you have a team that has a chance. Take that.

The Chicago Cubs drop a series to the awful Washington Nationals after blowing a 9th inning lead and letting another one get away. Daniel Palencia clearly didn’t have it as the Nats erupted for a 5-run 9th, with Josh Bell delivering a pinch hit 3-run HR. Kap sounds off on Craig Counsell and the Cubs front office. The Cubs failed to address needs at the trade deadline, and Kap says this is what happens when you fail to go ‘all-in’. Now, it’s onto the Atlanta Braves where it’s more apparent by the day that this team is a wild card group.

  1. What a GREAT day!!!!!! Brewers win, Cubs lose in laughable fashion, Phillies lose (also helping Brewers), and Packers kick the crap outta Detroit. Enjoy Chicago!

  2. I've been saying ALL SEASON that Palencia was not the guy. Forget the trade deadline… they KNEW they NEEDED a Closer in January. 2023-to-present… No Closer on this team = Not Serious Ricketts

  3. That has Mr Cub fan Tom Ricketts all over it don't go over the cap the park is full the beer is cold and everyone is singing Go cubs Go what a joke by the way prices are going up to watch them the organization and the people running it is a joke you can have the manager too he sucks

  4. David, Hi again.😐 Anywho, I had just about finished up typing out a lengthy, apropos comment here, when, Freakin ['poof'] = it All just Freakin disappeared!❗😡 So I'll @ least just, Incredulously ask this: WHY Da FREAK Did Counsell NOT Pinch-Hit Michael Busch over Justin Turner in da 8th?!⁉️… [smh] They could've Easily gotten an insurance-run, Like Dat, THEN!❗[Still smh]

This Was YET ANOTHA LOSS Dat CAN & SHOULD BE BLAMED ON: Counsell, Hoyer, Hawkins, & Ricketts!❗= 🤢🤮

  5. What can you even say any more??? This team doesn't have the drive, nor the personnel to compete for a championship. They may get in, but I can't see them having any success once in.

  6. This was a whole crappy homestand. They better find their way back to what propelled them to the division lead.

BTW: Palencia is gonna be hurt. Hodge and Keller will likely split for saves.

  7. Cubs team has the personality of their manager, general manager and president and owner which is boring, and Blah first cubs team you can fall of sleep on I'll say again Craig has no manager world series rings give the team 10 cups of your coffee please.

  8. This team is cooked. They don't deserve to make the playoffs. Counsell is a terrible manager. If you think they have any chance in the playoffs you are fooling yourself.

  9. I'm happy if they don't make the playoffs at all this year. They certainly don't deserve it and even if they squeak in, what are they going to do next? Not a damn thing. Oh well, there's always 2028. Right? Right?
