Padres vs. Rockies Game Highlights (9/7/25) | MLB Highlights

The Rockies with a chance to win the series against the San Diego Padres’s. Tanner Gordon’s on the hill tonight. This is only his 20th start in the big leagues. It was interesting. I looked last year, you know, he was 0 and6. This year now all of a sudden he’s five and five and he has pitched well of late. This ball lined to right and coming on making a tough catch is Yon Fernandez. He kind of double checked that it stayed in the glove. Here’s the 3-1. A rise takes outside ball for a one out walk here in the top of the first inning. And that is something of a rarity for Gordon. He’s done a really good job limiting the free passes. One out, one on brings up Manny Machado. And hitless in the series so far. 0 for nine. Machado drives this one out towards deep left center field. Back goes Moniac and it is gone. Manny Machado connects on his 23rd home run of the year. Padres’s take a two nothing lead in the first inning. tried another change up and Manny turns that one around in a hurry. Boy, the sound of the ball off his bat. Pitchers hate it. Manny loves it. Today’s the day. Dylan CE a W next to his name. Got two runs in the first. Swinging a miss and he strikes out Freeman. Good way to start the day for Dylan CE. Inside out swing and a fly ball down the right field line has Fernando making the catch as he runs into foul ground for out number two. 2-2 popped up the other way into shallow left field. Lauraniano racing in and towards the line. He’s there and right near the line in fair territory. He makes the catch to end a one, two, three. Bottom of the first inning. Down here in the second inning for Jackson Merrill. Here’s a guy who can get into one to left as Beck going back to the track. Turns and that ball is gone. A home run. Jackson Merrill connects on his 10th of the year. Padres’s take a three nothing lead. just cleared the fence in left just enough. We talked about the fast ball timing for Jackson Merrill since his return from the IIL and he timed that one up perfectly. We’ll start with Jordan Beck, the cleanup man again today for the Rockies. Go picked to the backand by Cronerorth. The throw is in time. Nice play. Jay Croninorth, who’s not played shortstop since 2022, tells you why he should be at shortstop. Tremendous play into the crown zone. That’s a big league play right there. That was hit hard, too. I thought he had no chance to even get a glove on that one. Brenton Doyles one, two, and line to left the middle of the plate. Doyle said, “Thank you very much.” And that’s first base runner for the Rockies. Goes, pitch is low. The throw going to be close and they got him. Caught stealing a rise. Slaps the tag on. Good throw by Fine. And Doyle caught trying to steal and Vable will reach. Unkeil Fernandez the right fielder. Two two again. Fernandez swings and misses at a curve ball. Strike three. That’ll end the second inning. No runs, two hits. One guy left on base. One down. Manny Machado now. Here’s the pitch. Swing and a miss. You got him. Elevated a fast ball and got Manny Machado with a strikeout. That is strikeout number three today for Tanner Gordon. Gordon’s got his sign. And here comes the next two swing at a miss. He got him with the change up. One, two, three inning and two strikeouts back to back for Gordon against the Padres’s. Braxton Pulford leads off for the Rockies. Swings to the first pitch, pops one up. Foul ground first base. O’Harn near the railing, reaches over to make the catch. Nicely done. Ryan O’Harn running out of room. One pitch, one out in the bottom of the third. to advance for Arcia. Remains at second base with now two outs here in the inning. Bring up Tobar and Tovar base hit left center field. That’ll get the Rockies on the board. Marcia coming home. Ezekiel coming through. Toby was listening to Clint who we heard right before the pitch. Y RBI baby. A loud first out. Gavin Sheets fly out to Jordan Beck in fairly deep left field first time up. Cleans this one out to deep right field. It is back and it is very gone into the second deck for Gavin Sheets. His 19th of the year and the Padres’s take a 4-1 lead. Third home run of the afternoon for San Diego. Hear those Padre fans wanted it away. Well, Gavin Sheets puts it away. So, Croninorth heads to second base. He’s there with two down in the fourth inning. Here’s Freddy Firmine. Line left center field of base hit for Fine. Here comes Cronorth around with the fifth Padres’s run. And on the second hit of the day for Ferine, the Padres’s take a 5-1 lead. And here comes Warren Schaefer. He is going to make the change. The only lefty for the Rockies into this game. Peralta 20th game. So base is loaded here for the Padres’s with two down in the inning. And Manny Machado with a chance to do some more damage. And that’s ball four. He walks in a run from third base comes Fine. And the Padres’s take a 6-1 lead. Another RBI for Banny Machado. Back hitless on the day thanks to a tremendous diving stop by Cronin Worth. That short stop. Swinging a miss. And he struck him out. There’s that slider and the third strike out of the day for Dylan CE. That strike three gets him looking. The sweeper. Back-to-back strikeouts for Dylan CE. Four and all. One and two. The pitch. Bernabel swings and misses. Strike three. Another sweeper and another K as C strikes out the side here in the bottom of the fourth inning. Moriano let off with a fly out to right field in the fourth inning. Leads it off here in the fifth inning. In the air to left field, tagged pretty well. Beck looks up and that’s gone too. Lauraniano gets his 23rd home run of the year. Padres’s with their fourth of the day. Take a 7-1 lead. This ball was smoked like a Christmas ham. One away for Jackson Merrill. Merryill rips it into right field. That’s a base hit. Jackson second knock of the day. A one out single here in the fifth inning. He’ll get Freddy Fine who has two singles. A run batted in and a run scored. Merryill at third. Croninworth at first. Goes at first and Cron and it gets away. So from third base comes Merryill. He’ll score. Padres’s take an 8-1 lead. Manny leading it off against Antonio Senzella. Padres’s have an 8-1 lead here in Denver. 3-2 takes it the other way and that’ll get back to the track in the wall as Machado’s headed for second base. Dug out by Fernandez and he’s got a double. His second extra base hit of the day with now one out in the inning. Bring up Brenton Doyle. You know how many double plays this guy’s ground into this year? What do you got? A Baker’s dozen. So he’s saying there’s a chance. 13 and a ground ball back to It goes underneath of him right to Cronin Worth. He hits second and throws to first in time to end the inning. So Mory Hone gets the ground ball double play and the Rockies leave a man as we go to the seventh. Dave Romero a home run and a single. Couple of runs scored this out towards left center field. Struck pretty well. It is back and that ball’s going to one hop against the wall as Jackson Merrill into second base. Cruising into second with a leadoff double. Triple shy of the cycle for Jackson. First and third, one away. Orlando Arcia sends one towards shortstop. Glacius to second for one on to first for two. Double play. So gets just what he needs. And that’s all for the Rocks in the seventh. As runners at first and second with two down and brings up Jackson Merrill. He’s a triple shy of the cycle. He drives it towards right. Fernandez is there and makes the catch. What a good day for Antonio Senzadella. Three and two3 shut out work. Ron Marinacio takes over for San Diego. Swinging a miss and Marinacio strikes him out. First out of the ninth inning. Swinging a miss. Romo strikes out. Back to back case for Marinacio. A two out base on ball on the ground to first base. Arise has got it. He’ll take it himself to the bag. And that is that. Padres’s win and they win the series. A nice 8 to1 victory and for the first time this year winning on the road is Dylan CE who’ll pick up his seventh win. Big day today for Jackson Merrill as the Padres’s come away with a victory 8 to1 in great fashion.
