Giants vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (9/7/25) | MLB Highlights
Cardinals today with Sunny Gray on the mound. Lately, his erra has been climbing rather quickly no matter what the last few games have looked like. He is quite the competitor and we’re going to have to compete. We’re going to have to get some good pitches to hit. We’re going to have to get him up in the zone. Stay in the middle of the diamond. That’s the best chance you’d have offering. Sunonny Gray 8 and5 at home this year. A sub4 RA. He’s been awesome here at Bush Stadium. You know the Cardinals like Michael McGrevy when he pitches they usually win. St. Louis Brad 19 and N in sunny Graves starts this season. Yeah. And they’ve won 13 of them here at home. It’s Elliot’s birthday today. It is. Feliz going to say Feliz big fella. Janette’s whacked towards second. Nice pick to JC Long. Oh, and just in time for out number one. Well, that’s rude. It’s his birthday for goodness sake. Gray ahead of Adamus. The Giants shortstop and gets a big swing and a miss. The Giants swinging in almost everything. Gray a nine pitch one two three first inning. The rightander coming off maybe the best outing of his big league career in Colorado. Kaiwe Tang got it. Tang stayed with that fast after one breaking pitch. Back to 94 for the strikeout. Got it. Change up again. That’s a pretty strong start. Sunny Gray struck out Willie Adams. Then a one, two, three first inning. Stra came out. Smith knew it. Didn’t even challenge Enur ball. Backto- back strikeouts for Sunny. Sunny Gray with a one-two pitch and he hacks at this one, sending it to center field where Nathan Church plays the ball, makes the catch. Six up, six down for Gray. Mason Win got plunked last night. Almost got hit by Tang here to start the second. And that’s how you pay back a brushback pitch. First hit of the game. Mason with a single to left. His 41st hit since the All-Star break. There’s a ground ball to short. Could be two. Adamus the second one. The relay to first. Tigma double play. A strong throw by Casey Schmidt on the pivot. He’s been kind of babying the ball over there. Remember he got hit in the in the elbow by a pitch in Colorado. That’s the first time I’ve seen him throw hard yet. He got it with the high sweeper. Kaiwe Tank found the weakness in that approach and another strong inning for Tank. So one away. Giants nothing. Cardinals nothing here. Ground ball right side. Nice play by Gorman. He bobbles it. Then the throw is in time to get the runner Gilbert at first base. Started to throw the ball. It squirted out of his hand. He regrabbed it as he was falling and was able to somehow throw it over to Sunny Gray covering. That was well done. Really good play. An athletic play by Dolan Gorman. Swing and a miss. That’ll take care of Ker and the Giants. Strike out number 1900 for Sunny Gray. Ends our third inning. And we are still scoreless. Jordan Walker got the double that won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning last night. He struck him out swinging. And man, he challenged him. A fast ball right out toward the heart of the plate about Belie and right by him. He got it with the slider down and in. Good recovery there by Kaiwe Chang after falling behind in the count. Newar hits a high fly ball to shallow right. Gilbert coming in. I think the wind is still knocking that down. Gilbert had a long way to go. Sunny Gray just rolling along here. Here’s Adamus. 3-2. Instead, he threw the sinker down for ball four. That’s the first base runner for the Giants. They’ll take it. 1-1. Adamus does run. The pitch taken, the throw, the tag. He is out. Giants will ask for just a moment to make sure. Throw looked like he beat him there. Giants are going to challenge though. After review, the call is overturned. The runner is safe. San Francisco retains its count. Here comes the pitch. And that’s a check swing. Nope. He went. He swung at it. Ball in the dirt. Sunny Gray strikes him out for the second time. I guess he was guessing. I guess he was guessing. Not that pitch for sure. Four strikeouts now for Sunny Kaiwe Tang back to work here in the bottom of the fourth. He got another one. Strike three on the fast. A lot of confidence in his fast today. Love it. He’s been getting strikeouts with the fast. Yes, he has. Including the strike out of Nolan Gorman back in the first inning. Gman picks on the first pitch and blasts a single to right. That’s the second Cardinals hit. Will he be swinging three and0? I guess not. The three-0 pitch. He wasn’t. And it’s a ball anyway. So, a walk to win. So, two walks, two on first threat for the Cardinals. Here’s Sajci. I think he got another one. That was a swing. Strike three. Seven strikeouts for Tang. Runners at first and second. Two down. The pitch. Swing and a miss. And he strikes out Pahes on three pitches. Still don’t have a hit in this game. Jung Hulie, maybe he’s the guy to get that first Giants hit. He’s been spraying hits around this series. Ground ball. diving stops to JC from his knees. Nice play. This has been his best game defensively that he’s had for a very long time. He made a really good play on Ramos to start things off and that was not an easy play either. That set the tone for him today. Sure did. Two- two pitch, a swing and a miss. Schmidt is out on strikes. That’s five strikeouts for Gray. That’s a four pitch walk to start the bottom of the fifth. You got to throw a strike here. And Walker departs. Four back-to- back walks. Two on, nobody out. So for me, your ninth place hitter, I would guess Brad, this is a great opportunity to bunt and four straight miss. He’s walked the bases loaded. This inning has turned into a walk-athon for Kai Tang. Duke has put the ball in play, hitting it in the air twice. Broken bat into center. A base hit. One run scores. Church is going to be stopped at third with two strikes. Snootbar breaks his bat and flips a single to center and the Cardinals have broken through for a one- nothing lead. Overall, Kaiwe Tang really good job by the tough way for his afternoon to end and the Cardinals are thinking big inning. See Jose coming off for the 49th time this season and but again he’s just trying to t hold the line right here the best you can. Shot to right on the first pitch. Herrera will bring home a run. Famine stops at third. Station to station for the Cardinals. Herrera with an ambush. It’s two to nothing. The walk-athon continues for Giant pitching four this inning. Oh, it is a nightmare, especially for a team that’s knocking on the door of the wild card. Four straight bases loaded walk three to nothing. There is no defending a base on balls and that’s exactly what they’ve had to deal with in this inning. Four of them. So, Mary Garound continues. Mason Win is next. He is singled and walked. Ground ball to second. That is going to score a run, but it’s a double play. Newbar comes home to make it four nothing. Two outs and all the way around to third is Herrera. No RBI. That’s the penalty for the double play, but the Cardinals put it in play and add another run. JC O for two. He got him with the slider. Well, all things considered, he did a good job. But the Cardinals score four and lead four nothing. And Gray walks backto back hitters. So no hits for San Francisco. But now some opportunity. Ramos, Devers, Adamus, and Smith are lurking. Swing and a miss. Sunny Gray. A big pitch. Number six in the strikeout column. Now the double play in order with Devers coming up. One swing would totally change this game. See if he catches a mistake here. See if Devers can get one. Devils up the middle. Base hit. Gilbert coming to third and Matt Williams is going to send him. The throw will be cut off. Rafie Divers just scolded that one for the first Giants run. It’s four to one. Good swing and a nice job by the lower part of the order. That’s their first hit of the game. And it scores a run. Adamus on the ball got by the catcher. How about that? It wasn’t that far outside. Well, you were talking about the framing of Pahes. He was trying to bring that one, crank it back. 3-2 pitch. That’s ball four. He was, I think, certain that Adamus was going to go after one of those last two. He wouldn’t do it. But you like where you’re at right now, at least with these opportunities. Find a way to get a ball into the outfield here if you’re Dom Smith. Then he goes after the first pitch into center field. Base hit. Divers will get the stop sign. The throw comes toward the plate from Church. Dom Smith first pitch swing. It’s four to two. Still only one out. Still bases loaded. So Gray goes five and a third innings. He had a no hitter brewing until Devers came up. Well, Mance Johnson’s been a revelation out of the Cardinals bullpen against Matt Chapman. He goes after the first pitch and a liner into left field. Base hit. Adamus had to hold up to make sure it got by the shortstop. Des in to score. It’s four to three. Bases still loaded. Here is Jung Hulie trying to get that tying run home. And Stri came out outside corner. What a pretty pitch that was. Two outs. The pitch on the way. A swing and a drive deep right center field. Church on the run. On the run. On the run. He makes the catch running onto the track and the Giants leave the bases loaded. Something going on with the bottom of the order for both the the Giants and the Cardinals. They seem to be getting things going, especially for the Cardinals. They get the three walks in the fifth inning. Now you got backto-back hits here. Well, big spot here for Matt Gage, the left-hander coming in. Giants just rallied for three runs. They’re down one. Cardinals have two on, two outs on the ground. Schmidt. Dom Smith will hustle to get back to the bag and he does for out number three. Gage stays in the game for the Giants. He will face Ivonne Herrera. Swing and a shot toward the gap in left center. Herrera with a Thunderbolt. He’s got an extra base hit and the Cardinals have a chance to extend the lead after a leadoff double. Herrera two for four today. Giants back into the bullpen. Tang Bhau Bivvens Gage and now Pagarro fifth pitcher of the day. Win on the ground. Schmidt will keep it on the infield. Throws him out at first. What a play, Casey Schmidt, man. Fantastic play. Gloveside dive. Giants trying to keep this a one-run game. Struck him out swinging. Nasty from Pagarro. And just like that, the Giants have a runner in scoring position. That’s just a great job by Wilmer. Not only a great at bat. The only way Wilmer gets there is right away to be busting it 100%. Can’t do your job better than that. Yeah, they’re going to walk Chapman. You got Jung-H Lee. Runners go. Swing and a miss. Jojo Joe Romero strikes out a pair in the eighth inning. Riley O’Brien, tall, slender right-hander in from the Cardinal bullpen. Schmid had a really good at bat his last time up with the bases loaded and two down. Hit one into the gap in right center that was caught. Flips one out into shallow right and that’s a base hit. You hit it hard, it gets caught. You do that, it’s a leadoff single. Yeah, whatever it takes. They got a chance here in the ninth. Not budding. Another broken bat. This one to right. Church on the run. Dives and makes a catch at the line. That ball gets down. It’s second and third. Oh my. Oh my. What a good move having him in right field. That is why. It’s exactly why you do defensive replacements late in games when you have a short lead or a small lead because that can be a gamecher. Well done. Broken bat roller to second. There’s one. There’s two and the Cardinals have won it. Ninth inning disappointment two days in a row for the Giants. Yesterday giving up the runs and today with the help from outstanding Cardinals defense, the Giants come up short and fall today four to three the final score. You can see the disappointment in that Giants dugout.

STATEMENT SERIES WIN !!! UNDISPUTED Manager of the Year Oliver Jose Marmol and his St. Louis Cardinals (the GREATEST team in the league) are the HOTTEST team since All-Star Break. The squad will go 90-72, TAKE the NL Central, MAKE the postseason once again and in one/two months (depending on when the games are in October/November), HUDDLE around a World Series trophy for an unprecedented TWELFTH time!
I have GOOSEBUMPS after that bottom of the fifth inning. First, Lars Taylor-Tatsuji Nootbaar, the 27-year-old from El Segundo, California, gets the offense rolling by CRUSHING an RBI single to center field, driving in Jordan Alexander Walker! Next, Ivรกn Aaron Herrera, the 25-year-old Panama City, Panama, native, BLASTS an RBI single to right field, bringing in Nathan Michael Church. Then, Nolan Brian Gorman, the 25-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona, has AMAZING plate discipline to score Josรฉ Miguel Fermรญn on a walk! Finally, Masyn Blaze Winn, the 23-year-old from Katy, Texas, has a SLICK move to send Noot to home plate.
MAMA MIA !! A FILTHY #SCTOP10 double play in the top of the ninth inning to WIN THE GAME as second baseman Thomas Darren Saggese FIRED to shortstop Masyn Blaze Winn who then HURLED to first baseman Nolan Brian Gorman. That SHOWS the STL is not only the best offensively, but defensively, too!
Folks, let's HEAR IT for the CLEAR-CUT Cy Young Award winner, Sonny Douglas Gray. The 35-year-old from Smyrna, Tennessee, has SIX serious strikeouts! CAP TIPS go to Matthew Patrick Svanson, Joseph Abel "Jojo" Romero and Riley Chun-Young O'Brien, all part of the best bullpen in the league, for the PERFECT defense!
