The New Orleans Saints Are MUCH BETTER Than You Think! OVERREACTION Monday After NFL Week 1 Loss
Welcome into our very first overreaction Monday of the 2025 NFL season. My name is Trisy Trace Gerard. You’re watching Saints Now by Chat Sports. We’re going to have a really fun video. It might be a little bit outlandish, but that’s the entire point of this video. But before we get into it, I just want to take a quick moment to say thank you to every single one of you who tuned in to our watch party. Over 90,000 people tuned in to our week 1 Saints vers Cardinals watch party. 5hour live show. Over a,000 people joined the Golden Gang. We are so dang close. Less than 150 250 subscribers away from getting to 50K. So I want to say thank you to the real ones. And if you want to be a real one, join the squad and hit the sub button because we will be live later on today. I’m not going to tell you what time. That’s why you got to turn on your notifications. [Music] It’s overreaction Monday and basically how it works is I’m going to kind of go through some takes that I’ve seen on social media, seen in the comments, and even some thoughts that may have gone through yours and our minds watching this football game yesterday on Sunday. Now, again, it might be a little bit ridiculous, but that’s why it’s called overreaction Monday. So, first things first, let’s talk about the quarterback position. Overreaction number one, bench Spencer Rattler. I will say this is a massive, massive overreaction because personally, I believe Spencer Rattler really wasn’t all of that bad. He was definitely not the reason that the New Orleans Saints lost this football game. I mean, obviously, you would have liked to see him have a little bit better of a day. You would have liked to see him find the end zone. He got saved by a penalty on a Will Johnson uh interception for a deep ball on or to Rasheed Shahed. And so he got build out in that regard, but he was effective with his legs on uh in terms of rushing the football. He was pretty effective in passing the football. I thought it was his overall best outing that we’ve seen since he’s been drafted, including in the preseason. And in my personal opinion, I thought Rattler was good. I didn’t think he was great. And in my personal opinion, I also think Rattler needs to be great more often because they don’t have enough talent around him to just be good. And especially if this Chris Olive chest injury is something that lingers, that’s going to be a major major problem. Again, I thought he was good, but I didn’t think he was great. I didn’t think he was really all that bad. Like I said, he was not the reason you lost this football game. But too many times the New Orleans Saints started drives behind the sticks. It was happening way way way too often. You had 13 penalties for 89 yards. And so you’re asking Spencer Rattler to start at first and 15, first and 20 because you can’t make you you can’t execute a play on first and 10 without getting a penalty or a pre- snap penalty. Like it’s really really frustrating. It’s really really difficult for a quarterback and for an offense to get into motion and get into a groove and to find their mojo. if you’re starting behind the sticks and if you’re having to face adversity every single snap. Now, when it comes to Kyler Murray versus Spencer Rattler, the numbers actually were pretty impressive when you put side by side. Kyler Murray, no question about it, was the much much better day. He had a quiet but very effective day. That being said, Spencer Rattler did a really really good job of avoiding sacks. And I think that there’s this weird thing happening when it comes to Spencer Rattler. Uh, I feel like he slips all the time on the field. It’s actually unbelievable. But side by side, you can see Spencer Rattler had a pretty good day compared to Kyler Murray. Rattler also had four carries for 29 yards, which is an average of over seven yards per carry. Murray seven carries for 38 yards, 5 and a half yards per carry. Now, when it I I I also think with uh Spencer Rattler, he was honestly a player that could have had a better start to the game because I thought the end to the game was really, really good. Uh early on, the offense just couldn’t really find a groove. They got the Alvin Chimera touchdown, which was awesome, but I thought that the Saints down the stretch were much, much better than they were early on in the matchup. Now, a big controversial moment was the in an upsetting moment for a lot of us was the Jawan Johnson 50/50 ball. Um, at the very end of the game, Spencer Rattler saying he would go to him a 100 out of 100 times. Again, he knew he was going to Jawan on the play. And for what it’s worth, I did tweet it out. I personally believe that it was more of an impressive play by the Arizona defense than an egregious drop by Jawan Johnson. I mean, yeah, Johnson had the ball in his hands, but the Cardinals defensive backs just made a hell of a play and and you can’t take that away from the Cardinals defense making a great play. Sure, we paid him a bunch of money to make some of those tough catches, but at the end of the day, the Cardinals defense just made a really, really good play at a perfect moment, perfect time in the game, and it just happens sometimes. So, I will say, of course, would like to have that back. would like to see Jawan Johnson come down with that ball, but you know, I think that Rattler did go with the right decision in targeting Jawan Johnson on that play. Now, the offense did move really, really well when they were moving in tempo. I thought that that was where Spencer Rattler looked the most comfortable. I thought that that’s where the rushing attack was at its best. Um, and that’s where the Cardinals defense were most on their heels. So for the New Orleans Saints moving forward, I think you got to focus on creating tempo within the offense and attacking the opposing defense with really really precise and really um you know just like just going through the tempo is kind of what I’m trying to just get through. Sorry about that guys. Having a brain fart. Um now let’s get into my overreaction number two. Kool-Aid McKenry is a bust. Oh my god, he was so terrible yesterday. It was awful. It was horrible. Marvin Harrison Jr. feasted. I mean, it’s true. Marvin Harrison Jr. had a really, really good day. But again, I thought this was a player who early on had a really, really rough start, but as the game progressed, got much better just like Rattler. So, for Kool-Aid Mckenry, you can see on your screen how Pro Football Focus graded him on 66 total snaps. Now, it’s interesting. 17 of those were in the box, 47 out wide. He did give up almost 12 yards per catch, only one penalty, and it was not accepted. I thought Kool-Aid McKenstry got better as the game went on. He definitely wasn’t good enough for me to be comfortable saying that’s my lockdown CB1. I will say this, I am not worried about Kool-Aid McKenry whatsoever. I think he is going to be just fine. I think he’s going to develop and continue to grow. He got better as the game went on and that’s a good sign. It’s week one. Let’s let the team kind of get things moving. So that’s why I call it overreaction Monday because we’re going to be really pissed off as the game happens and as as things wind down in the heat of the moment, of course, but when you sit down, you can go back through and be like, “Okay, let’s actually explain it. Let’s think about it.” because I do think Kool-Aid McKinstry has what it takes to be the guy for the quarterback position, but I think he just needs to get a little bit better and continue his development. We’re going to get into a little bit more on Kool-Aid McKinstry because um I have some really important takes to defend him on and we have some more overreaction to get into. But really quick, got to tell you about our gold jersey sale. Go to chatsports.com/saints jerseys. I got my Olave jersey. Rocked it at the watch party. You can get yours, too. Go click the link in the description. It’s down in the comment section as well attached to the pin comment and it’s just floating around there. If you want to get a Rasheed Shahid Cam Jordan jersey, dude, Cam Jordan had a hell of a day. One and a half sacks. How could you not want to go and get a jersey for this guy? And I’ll tell you what, these will sell out. So, if you want to get yours before the season’s over and before the supply is gone, you got to go click the link down below or just type this in your search bar chatsports.com/saints jerseys and you will get hooked up today. Now, Kool-Aid McKinstry, I will defend you because I was critical and I’m a firm believer and I’m a big fan of his. Koolaid McKinstry does need to do more to prove that he can be a CB1, but he is definitely not a bust. To be totally honest, I don’t know anybody who’s calling him a bust. I don’t think anybody out there truly believes that. People who did post and were super critical saying Kool-Aid sucks or he’s terrible or you know what the heck, get him off the field, yada yada yada. That’s just fans being fanatics on social media. It happens. It is what it is. But I thought I firmly do believe he is not a bust. He’s going to be fine. He just needs to do a little bit more to prove he can be the CB1. And I do think he will 100% do that. Now, let’s get into overreaction number three. some fun overreactions we’re going to get into. Maybe not totally overreactions though. It actually might kind of turn out to be true. I don’t want to do what we did last year and get a little too giddy. Going after week one, especially last year was a win. This year was a loss. So, kind of hard to do that. But in week one, I want to give claps. I want to give props. Game ball goes to the defensive line. Um, the Saints logged five sacks and 11 total pressures on 61 dropbacks by Kyler Murray. Now, for the New Orleans Saints last year, they were horrendous at getting to the quarterback and getting production. They got a lot of pressures, but they did not get a lot of production la yesterday. Five sacks, 11 total pressures. Here are your sack leaders. Alante Taylor with an extremely clutch sack late in the game to give the chance or the Saints a chance to win. Pete Wernern had got uh credited for a sack for forcing Kyler Murray out of bounds. Carl Granderson, Cam Jordan both logged one and a half. I thought both of them looked great. Cam Jordan does not look like he aged a bit. And then the New Orleans Saints also got a lot of different players to get some pressures as well. Brian Brazie logged one. Devon Godshaw got in the back field. Dear Davis even got some action. So considering the New Orleans Saints were without their top pass rusher in Chase Young because he was out due to a calf injury, that is really impressive. Imagine if you have Chase Young in the fold. Give Kim Jordan that extra snap or two to catch his breath, throw him back in. Do the same thing with Carl Granderson. You have more highlevel production, highlevel talent on the field when Chase Young is available. This scheme fits what he wants to do. The stand up edge rushers were really, really impressive yesterday. I loved seeing it. It really made yesterday a little bit more fun because it was like, “Oh, oh my god, they’re getting back there.” And they were actually getting sacks five for 33 yards. Ladies and gentlemen, that is really, really impressive for a team that’s supposed to be the worst in the football in the entire National Football League. So, who was the defensive MVP in week one? I’m giving my game ball to Cam Jordan, but I want you to sound off in the comments section as well. Could be fair to say Carl Granderson. Could be fair to say Deario Davis. Could be fair to say Justin Reed. There’s a lot of players that you could give one to. Now, overreaction number four. And this one is not an overreaction. This one I firmly believe. But again, going by what we said yet just a few minutes ago, I’m going to do the same thing. Week one and two last year, we were saying Super Bowl. I’m not going to do that. I will so I will still say it’s an overreaction although I do not believe it is. We are not the worst team in the National Football League. I’ve been saying this for months. I’ve been saying it for so damn long and everyone wants to argue me on it. People want to try to tell me that the New Orleans Saints are going to be dog this year. They might be, but they’re not going to be the worst team in the league. I was I I I I want to point out a few games here. The Falcons versus the Buccaneers. Young Way Coup missed on a game-winning or a game tying field goal opportunity. Just missed it. Falcons are a bad football team. Michael Pennock looked good, but the Falcons are always going to be the Atlanta Falcons. This one was not too surprising, but kind of. Uh Daniel Jones cooked the Miami Dolphins defense. 22 of 29, 272 yards, and a touchdown. Their defense couldn’t cover a bed with a blanket, ladies and gentlemen. Russ, he led the New York Football Giants in rushing yards. They’re terrible. That team is so bad. I feel bad for Malik Neighbors. Get him out of there, man. He’s fighting for his life. Giants versus Washington, that the Giants are are terrible. Patriots, they’re terrible. I don’t want to hear a peep about how the New Orleans is gonna have the number one overall pick when the Dolphins and the Colts, the Giants, the Patriots, and the Falcons Falcons won’t be in the number one pick mix. But all of these teams are in the mix. They none of that. Yeah. No, the New Orleans Saints are not going to be the number one overall selection. The Titans, I mean, even they put up a fight yesterday, still lost. Cam Ward looked good, but they have no help around him. The Titans are going to be bad. I’m sorry. Seahawks losing to the Niners. I thought the Niners are not going to be a great football team. Texans did not look good. Think they will be fine, but did not look good. Just gonna throw that out there. Again, I I’m not going to sit here and say that the New Orleans Saints are going to be this wildly successful team this year. I’m not even going to sit here and say they’re going to make the playoffs, but I they they they will probably have a top 10 pick. They might have a top 10 pick, but we won’t be first overall. I can promise you that. The Browns exist, the the Colts exist, the Dolphins exist, the Giants exist, the Patriots exist. We’re not going to be the first pick. And I really really believe that that’s going to be true. Hopefully, I’m not wrong. If it is, that’s going to be a really good clip to pull later, Lopez. Um, that being said, I don’t think that the New Orleans Saints are going to be the first overall selection in the 2026 NFL draft. They looked good. They showed a lot of fight. They got better as the game went on. Uh the Saints only allowed, I think it was three points in the second half. Like they got better as the game went on. So, let’s get to week two, week three, week four. Let’s get out of this little tough stretch we have and let’s see what we can get moving here because I think that this team as a season goes on will get better. And then, like I’ve always said, you will build the foundation to achieve sustained success. That’s the ultimate goal because in year one, we know we’re not going to compete for a Lombardi Trophy. Get in the comments section. I want you to sound off. Who is the worst team in the National Football League? I personally believe Browns. I think it’s the Browns. Lopez, who’s your Who’s your pick? He’s He says the Browns, too. Brown, and I quote, Browns are ass. I I believe that that’s very true as well. Get in the comments section, share your thoughts. Do you agree with Lopez and I or is it going to be somebody else? Appreciate you guys for tuning in. Reminder, we will be live later on today. I’ll give you a little hint if you stuck around for the entire video. We’re going to be live at 3:00 p.m. Central time. So, turn on your notifications, subscribe, and we will see you guys later. Y’all stay golden. [Music]

The best performance for the Black and Gold came across the defensive line as the Saints pass rush made life difficult all game long. New Orleans tallied 5 total sacks in their NFL Week 1 loss, led by Cam Jordan and Carl Granderson who both tallied 1.5 sacks on the day. With Chase Young set to return to the pass rush room in Week 2, the Saints could have one of the top pass rushes in the 2025 NFL season.
Overreaction safer the Saints loss against the Arizona Cardinals:
– Kool-Aid is a bust
– The pass rush is ELITE
– Bench Spencer Rattler
– New Orleans is not the worst team

2-15 season incoming.
You’re right Trace he’s not the reason they lost but he’s not doing anything to be the reason to win. Just like his 7 starts last season he still can’t finish drives or games and that’s a major problem in my opinion. We also learned just like last season you can’t count on Juwan Johnson when the game is on the line. He drops the ball.
Oh just so there’s no confusion I do not think Rattler should be benched. At least not yet. I think Tyler Shough will be ready to take over between weeks 8 and 12. Somewhere in that stretch unless Spencer Rattler starts finishing drives and games. It is only his 8th start. So kinda still a rookie learning how to play NFL football.
We definitely going 0-17😂 like we are ASS

Spencer Rattler did well Sunday
Panthers
Spencer was solid
If Johnson doesnt bobble it at the high point he, catches that ball! But because he bobbled it, it allowed Budda to move the ball on contact! big man has to bring that in, in that situation!
FAILCONS always FAIL
3pm Live today?
It was derek carrs fault olave got hurt again right?
Where are all the Saints fans who were excited about the Saints getting faster receivers? Penalties, no rushing attack, and the inability of the coaches to utilize their time outs. I believe they also traded with Denver for a big body WR, but with the game on the line, the pass was dropped by a TE
13 penalties
Miss tackles
Couldn't stop the Cardinals on 3rd and Long 3 different times
Juwan Johnson drop touchdown tie the game
I give it a 7 out of 10 performance for the New Orleans Saints
So the goal this year for the Saints is to not have the number one overall pick in the draft? Gotcha!!
I think everyone needs to give Rattler a break if Moore will let this kid play at his potential he will be a pro bowler within 2 years I don't understand why everybody hates on him ham Non-Stop it wasn't his fault they got injured last year and lost all them games before he got into the realm let this guy play football like he knows how don't forget just 6 years ago he was the number one overall high school player in the country
I thought we were better than most fans expected. The Offense has to open up the play book a bit, too many check downs. #22 needs to be involved from play one. The D looked pretty solid, getting Chase Young back will help. At this point, I'd be happy to just eliminate the penalties.
Can't blame the quarterback for everything he wasn't the one who gave up 17 points in the first half he wasn't the one who dropped the football at the end I almost wished they would have started Tyler that way we all would have seen how he's nothing why everybody thinks he would have taken a bunch of sacks throwing the ball away fumbled and everything else once Saints fans start loving rattler he's going to be the player you want him to be take off some of the pressure on the kids shoulder he don't make all the play calling and as of right now he is ranked 15th in the league in passer rating that's better than half the quarterbacks in the league
koolaide got cooked in the preseason and got cooked in the first regular season game. don’t sound like he improved to me
Here's my honest opinion I don't think we are winning the Next 3 games. we will be 0-4 with Rattler being the starting Quarterback, And him 0-11 as NFL Starter. Then we will Bench rattler and let Shough take over.
0-1, our "QB" is 0-7, soon to be 0-10. Let me ask you this…"Are the Cardinals a good team"?..Like say, the 49ers? or the Bills?…Are the Cardinals better than the Seahawks? Well, Seattle has defeated AZ, 3 times in a row. Because this is who we play in our next three games. How many of those will Rattler win?…He's playing with the starters now, so no more excuses. How does 0-4/0-10 feel?
To many penalties
Trace please quit over hyping Chase young. He has never had double digit sacks at any point of his career, he generates pressures ,(big whoop). The guy basically bamboozled Mickey out of 51 million dollars. He's Jadaveon Clowney 2.0. He's been in the league 6 years and he's basically an underachieving player.
I agree people can say what they want… we NOT gonna be the worst team this year. We we keep improving and stay heathy we can win 7-8 games this year. Also… Dolphins getting smoked by Daniel jones was hilarious🤣
Facts: when you hold the other team’s points to 20, you should win. Rattler has led this team to 20 points once. And we were blown out by Tampa. He hasn’t thrown for two touchdowns once.
Do your job by winning. Win at least ONE game…NO EXCUSES PLEASE…Rattler is 0-7 now.
Ten straight games (regular and preseason); the Saints have scored less than 20 points.
He playing like a bust idk what techniques he’s using but he needa stop because its not working he was a Round 1 talent that fell to the second round. Cooper DeJean who went a couple picks before him is playing lights out. You cant come outta Bama playing under Nick Saban and not be ready it honestly looks like he wasnt even trying.
We need Spencer rattler to use his legs more😂
Y’all sound really dumb saying bench Rattler , like why is it his fault the defense couldn’t get a stop and the small weak receivers get no separation? Only a moron watches a young quarterback play that well only to get screwed by the o line with penalties and bad play. Yall saint fans are terrible
Rattler was good clearly best quarterback on roster he will get better and better
There will be fewer dropped balls in the future as Rattler works more with the wr group.
Lmao no they not..they lost to cardinals at home
The Titans are the worst.
The saints are about as good as your "mustache." Why are saints fans so unrealistic. Defense looks fine. The offense is bad. Rattler had 67 first half yards and 71 second half yards until prevent garbage time. We will not win a single game with this type of output from Rattler.
