Cubs vs. Braves Game Highlights (9/8/25) | MLB Highlights
There is a good look at Truis Park on a Monday night. Gorgeous weather. Cubs in town to take on the Atlanta Braves. First of a threeame series. The Cubs right now comfortably in the top spot in the wildard race. So things going well in that department. Three games better than the San Diego Padres’s for that top wild card position. That’s as tight as it’s been in a little while here. The Padres’s of course just one game behind the Dodgers out west. But the Cubs, if they take care of business, they’re going to be able to claim that that top spot in the wild card and host that first wild card series. See if Bryce Elder can take advantage of somewhat of a weakened Cubs lineup. And as we said, Tom, he’s been really good the last three starts. Yeah, real good his last three. He’s gone at least six innings and six of his last seven and had a great outing his last time out against the Cubs. Seven innings, four hits, one earn unearned run, no walks, and six punch outs. And now for the ball game. on the first pitch swung on and a weak dribbler up the first baseline glove by Olsson. Flips to Elder. One down. Here comes Ian Hap. Did he go? Yes, he did. And Ian Hap is down. So, four pitches for Elder. He gets the ground out. Then a three pitch strikeout. I think he went. Yes, he did. A one, two, three, nine pitch inning for Bryce Elder. Shot Immanaga on the mound for the Cubs. The left-hander is 9 and six with a 3.15 erra in 21 starts this season. Three runs or fewer in seven straight starts dating back to July the 30th. The only reason he hasn’t won more games is they’re only scoring 2.3 runs a game for him during that stretch on the ground to third. Shaw gobbles it up, throws out Proar one away. All right, one down for Matt Olsen. Swang and a miss. Struck him out and down goes Olsen. That was the splitter. Great action on that pitch. showed off to a nice start here. Azie comes to the plate. The last time Azie saw Ianaga, he hit a homer. That was on September the 2nd. And Azie gives this a ride out to center field. Castro’s back and Azie stays hot. He just unloaded both barrels on Emmaaga again. It’s a solo homer to the deepest part of the yard and Azie Albies stays redot versus the Cubs. One- nothing Braves. What a shot. What a show. Hassan Kim at the plate and he lines it into center field for a two out single. Backto back two out hits. And here comes Drake Baldwin. And Drake Baldwin to the gap in right center. Where’s that one going to go? Off the wall. Kim’s going to come around and score. It’s an RBI double for Baldwin. He just boomed one into the gap. Two nothing Braves. That hit off the screen in front of the Braves bullpen. Great extension on a pitch trying to run it away from him and Drake wasn’t having any of that. Missed a home run by about a foot. Yeah, they have been teeing off these last three batters. Let’s see what Ronald can do. Toughest stretch of Ronald Akuna’s career. 25 at bats without a hit. That will break the drought. Baldwin is being waved home. The throw from half. He’s safe. Akuna able to deliver an RBI single to bust out of his slump. You would almost bet that Ronald could go up and try to go over 25 and he wasn’t going to do it yet. Here he is, but comes up with a big base hit right there to kind of break the drought and hopefully get him going. Two away here in the bottom of the first inning. Akuna at first. Michael Harris the second at the plate down the line. State Fair it is. They’re calling it a two-run homer for Michael Harris. Greg Counsel Tommy Hod saying absolutely not. Now the umpires get together. I thought it was foul, but I was going to wait on CB. So did Harris. The call on the field was fair ball. After a crew consultation, we have switched that to foul ball. So erased that two-run homer from the books and we’ll do it again. And that one rolled to the right side. Her picks it up, throws to the bag, and that into the bottom of the first inning. Pete Crow Armstrong who is the designated hitter tonight. Steps in and Elder has struck out three straight. This time it’s Pete Crow Armstrong looking. He’s locating everything well. So two down for Willie Castro. Ground ball. Hard hit. Base hit right field. So Castro with a solid knock and here comes the former Brave Dansby Swanson out to the gap but Hassan Kim or rather Kofar, excuse me, is there. He’s got it. And a single. Nothing else for the Cubs against Elder in the top of the second. One down for Reese Maguire. Azie gets to it. Spencer makes a nice play. Azie not only torments the Cubs with his bat, he does it with the leather. Here’s Michael Bush. That is another strike out. What a beautiful pitch. What a beautiful three innings for Bryce. Now he’s faced 10. He is K five. Now the Cubs in business here with two away in the top half of the sixth inning. Single by Bush. He’s now at second. Now a walk to Hap and it’ll bring up Seiya Suzuki and the Cubs are one big swing from tying up the ball game. Hit hard diving stop at short by Kim. Safe at second and everybody’s safe. Great job by Ian Hap to beat the throw at second and the bases are loaded. He comes up and he throws this ball to second base. If he comes up and throws to first, I think he’s got a better chance of getting an out. So, the first real opportunity for the Cubs tonight and Pete Crow Armstrong is the batter. Ground ball. Matt Olsen has it. Elder covers and he gets out of it. And the Cubs leave the bases loaded to end the top half of the sixth inning. Two out and here is Drake Baldwin. And a high-fly ball a hit to right center. Suzuki’s there. Makes the catch. That’s out number three. My favorite thing from Shimanaga is a one, two, three inning. Cubs looking for some offensive life here as they begin the top half of the seventh inning. Nico her at the plate and that one ripped into left field and that’s a base hit and slipping down is Proar’s into second. So a man in scoring position one away. Her advances to third. So here’s Dansby with a man at third. Chopped towards third. That’s a fair ball and her stayed on the bag and then a collision with Alvarez. Everybody’s safe. Nico did a great job of just sticking on the base. I mean, when Nacho gloved it, he was right over the top of the bag and bumped right into her. A couple of hits here in the seventh, but a tremendous outing for Bryce Elder tonight. Standing ovation for Bryce Elder, who was terrific tonight. Right-hander Pierce Johnson is the new man on the mound for the Braves. Matt Shaw at the plate. Drilled out towards left center field. Harris coming on and he makes a run and catch. Porter will tag Nico in to score and the Cubs are on the board. It’s 3-1. It’s a pretty good grab by Harris out in left center. Harris a lot like Pete Armstrong can really fly in center and he just outruns this ball. Makes a nice catch in left center field. But the Cubs do get on the board. Three to one now. Matt Olsen at the plate. Savali deals. Matt Olsen with a fly ball to deep center field. Castro to the wall. That’s reaching and gone. Homer number 23 for Matt Olsen. And the Braves have a little bit more breathing room. It’s now 4-1 Braves in the eighth as that one was belted to deep center. He got a hanger and he did not miss it. 23rd of the season. Give him now 80 runs driven in this year as well. Top of the ninth. Rice Glacius will try to make it 14 consecutive saves as he is on to face the Cubs middle part of their order. Two down for Willie Castro. Alacius has two outs on four pitches. He struck him out. Braves win. And for Bryant Snicker, it’s win number 800. And he’s the third manager in franchise history to reach 800 wins behind Bobby Cox and Frank Cely. Final score, Braves 4, Cubs

What a game.
go braves
Awesome Kim!
The Braves are undefeated when:
Bryce Elder has exactly 6 Ks (5-0)
Tyler Kinley throws 12 or less pitches in his outing (4-0)
Ha-Seong Kim scores a run (2-0)
Bryce Elder pitches against the Cubs (2-0)
Good game today, Ronnie got out of his funk, Baldwin strengthened his potential ROTY case, Ozzie stayed hot, Olson got another homer, Elder continued to look good, and Kim kept hitting well. I'm excited for 2026, Chop On 🪓

Good team win tonight
Great job Braves!
Not the first time the umps have taken an obvious home run away from the Braves
Who are you and what have you done with Bryce Elder?
Why does Gaudin sound like he's broadcasting from a walk in freezer in half of the audio
Go ahead and retire now Snit. He looks washed up and has zero energy. Go enjoy a lazy boy and let someone else take over.
