DK4 prepping for the next season. What are your expectations for him this upcoming season?

  1. He will continue to be a mediocre bench player offensively and a complete nothing on defense. We will trade him for some bullshit and he’ll bounce around the league like Doug McDermott. The dude is 25 and is one of the worst defenders in the NBA for his size. The Lakers don’t need a guy like that.

  2. Honestly, not that high. I would love to be proven wrong, but I don’t see him averaging more than 10-15 min a game in the reg season (and prob less in the playoffs). I definitely do see a few 20-pt games in situations where he gets more minutes due to injuries/rest.

I get “summer league is summer league”, so I’m not going to write him off, but there was just such a startling lack of development there – no new moves, no real hints that he’s playing lower competition, no improved defense, not even dominant scoring, which I would have expected from someone who’s theoretically a 2-3 level scorer.

I’m not calling him a bust or anything like that, just that I think his ceiling is lower than some people think and that he’s not going to reach that point this season (at least another year or two) to where he can be even a high-level bench player.

  3. I still don’t see a good spot for him on the depth chart unless he takes a leap defensively

  4. The pessimist: Continues to pout when he doesn’t get minutes. Gets on a heater for a few minutes every few games. Trade mid season after no meaningful improvement.

The optimist: Learns to lock in on defense. Earns minutes in the rotation. Consistently knocks down shots. Earns title as a true 3&D.

  5. At this point I don’t really have any expectations. His lack of defensive awareness makes him largely unplayable.

  6. Realistically he’ll probably get traded if not tho averaging 12/15 ppg seems reasonable

  7. He’s an all world shooter, but he has an extremely limited NBA skill set. His handle is loose, and he has no counters. His only move against close outs is a one dribble pull-up. He’s a good straight-line player, but once he’s forced off his spot or away from his line his game breaks down. And this was all against summer league talent, not to mention NBA level defenders and schemes.

I won’t touch on his defense, but I’m basically at a point where expecting anything from DK going forward, even if it’s technically possible he turns it around, is setting yourself up for disappointment. Better to just accept that he’s a lost cause and then be pleasantly surprised if you’re wrong.

  8. He can be a solid roleplayer alongside marcus and gabe I think. If he adopts into a 3 and D player somehow ain’t nobody is stopping us from winning the ring

  9. He’s gonna enjoy the So Cal weather till February and then move onto (probably) less greener pastures.

  10. My hope is he shows some balls and commitement. Just two days after elimination this year he was in a night club in Knoxville walking like a diva around the scenario getting pictures and adulation from the crowd. It was embarrasing to watch, like kid, you had a terrible first year, you were traded away to a trash team and your first impulse after season is over is to get appreciation from your college fans and act like you are some hot shot. If I were in his shoes, I’d be thankful that trade didn’t happen and work my ass off to prove I deserve my second chance at the Lakers lol.

Average players like him need to go the extra mile to keep their place in the NBA, and he doesn’t seem to have the drive to do so.

  11. Listen yall. Not every pick is gonna hit. My expectations for him are low. Yeah he’s had high scoring games but teams have figured him out.

  12. well, we are better off trading any first round pick that we get instead of keeping it. we are better off developing second rounders and undrafted ones. holy hell, we couldn’t develop a single one of our firsts.

    Julius Randle
    Brandon Ingram
    Lonzo Ball
    Kyle Kuzma
    Josh Hart
    Mo Wagner
    Jalen Hood-Schifino
    Dalton Knecht

  13. He will have decent or bad season but he will improve his trade value and he going to get traded this time

  14. My expectations, if I’m being totally honest, is for him to be completely and utterly unplayable again.

There are 2 main reasons for this.

1, he is the worst possible defensive archetype to pair with our existing defensive weaknesses. Poor hip mobility paired with a lack of strength, it’s just incompatible with the rest of the roster.

2, he’s got some of the worst BBIQ I’ve seen from a role player we’ve had in a minute. It’s like he’s always several beats slow reacting to and reading every single action. Some deficiency in this regard can be trained out, but his level of schematic ineptitude can’t.

I was cheering for this pick when it happened, but honestly at this point I’m willing to say that even for a 17th pick he’s a straight up bust and needs to be dumped.

  15. I think he won’t get as much run as a rookie. Spot minute guy when we are healthy better off traded and getting a reset with a team he could get meaningful minutes on.
