The New Orleans Saints Might Have Pulled Off A GENIUS MOVE + Cut Juwan Johnson?

[Music] Welcome on in to Saints Now by Chat Sports. For today’s show, we’re going to be getting reactions from Saints fans after the week one loss. We’ve had some time to let it marinate. We’ve had some time to let it sit, get over the pain, and now we’re going to have an honest conversation about how we feel and talk about some questions, take some questions, respond to some hot takes, and, you know, do all of that good stuff. Uh, program announcement though. We have moved our weekly live shows from Wednesday to now two days a week, Monday and Thursday. So, be sure to subscribe and turn on notifications. We do these weekly Q&As’s as a part of our live show. So, if you want to be seen in front of thousands of Saints fans, I highly encourage you to subscribe to the channel, tune in, and turn on your notifications because we are on the road to 50K and we got awesome content coming your way every single day. Cooper, first question goes to you, my friend. Do you think with George KD being hurt, Saints have a higher chance of winning on Sunday? The answer is yes. Uh Trey McBride, tight end for the Arizona Cardinals, absolutely dusted you. And I think that the tight end position is one that the Saints have had a tough time defending in the past and George KD is one of the best in the league to play the position. So him being out um is good news for the Saints. We don’t celebrate injuries on the channel, but I do have to say and I will acknowledge the obvious that him being out is a big factor for the uh 49ers offense. Lopez, I want you to sound off and answer this question as well. Do you think George KD being hurt helps the Saints? I definitely think anytime George KD isn’t on the field, it’s gonna hurt the 49ers. So, whoever their opponent is definitely going to benefit from that, but I really think the game will be one for the Saints if you can stop that San Francisco pass rush. Totally. You can’t let Nick Bosa have a day. I think George KD can do so much, but Nick Bosa can wreck your day for you. Yeah. Well, and the fact that you don’t have George KD, one of the top offensive weapons in the league available means you’re going to need to find other weapons to fill that void or you’re not going to be able to drive down the field that very far. Thus, leaving kicks to Jake Moody, who is terrible, and that is a key to success. Make Jake Moody kick the field or kick the football to kick field goals and um you’ll be fine. So, George KDing hurt definitely helps the New Orleans Saints and increases their odds in my personal opinion. Eric, is Taesm Hill about to retire? No, I don’t think he’s about to retire. Uh, in case you guys didn’t know, the New Orleans Saints recently restructured his contract, lowered his 2025 cap number from 17.98 million to 14.2 million. Uh, still voids the last day of the league year. Up to $6 million will be available in per game roster bonuses. Uh, a little bit more from Nick Underhill. I had this pulled up. This is bad. But I need to make sure I I have this written down, but he it saves, I believe, about $3.6 million. Yeah, Taesm Hill’s contract uh creates about $3.6 million in cap savings. So, the Saints could potentially look to make a roster move. Um I don’t think this means that he’s retiring anytime soon. I think this more so is just the Saints trying to um deal with the money side of everything. Um Nick Underh Hill even saying basically it just sets up uh so about $6 million of his previous base salary will now be earned through roster bonuses. So it’s not a retirement thing. Um according to Nick Underhill Courtney, good to see you. Queen Courtney, type the crown emojis in the chat. Y’all know what to do. Why was our offense as flat as it always has been? We have weapons and coaches. Well, uh interesting stat. Spencer Rattler was tied for number one in the National Football League in week one for quick pressures. What is a quick pressure, Trizy? Well, that’s a great question, Trizy. That is a pressure occurring in two and a half seconds or less. Drake May and Spencer Rattler led the league at 13. So, the Saints offense never really gave Spencer Rattler a chance. He didn’t get to stretch the field all that much. his yards per attempt were less than like what five or six yards like four point he has like 4.8 yards per attempt. So, not only did he not have time to air it out, he also when he did have the opportunity to, it didn’t necessarily go well. Um, I mean there’s a couple of those deep balls that I know we would like to have back and we would like to see connect had he connected, especially on that Rashid Shahed pass early in the uh game that was picked off and then waved because of the penalty. I think that that one if that one lands then we’re talking about his day much much differently. Lopez, what do you think about this? I think one of the biggest things was they played best in tempo. Yes. And with tempo, you’re being a little bit more aggressive. And that was just one of the big takeaways from week one. I don’t think Kell Moore let the offense be aggressive enough. I think there was times they could have capitalized a little bit more. I know, like you were saying, they had the quick pressure so you can’t take the shot, but even just getting to the line quick, snapping the ball quick, try and catch the Cardinals off off guard, just didn’t seem like they were looking to do that that much. No. No. I I I totally agree with you. They looked best in tempo. It felt like Kell Moore could have had a little bit more confidence in his roster and in that offense, but um you know that’s what next few weeks are for. It’s week one. There’s going to be growing pains regardless no matter what. So, in my personal opinion, I think that the New Orleans Saints need to find ways to be more confident, thus giving them the opportunity to potentially stretch the field and take some of those deep shots in which we love seeing Rasheed Shahed uh score touchdowns on. Now, we’re going to answer some more questions here in just a moment. But really quickly, got to take a moment to thank today’s presenting sponsor, and that is Chubbies Shorts. I can understand why you would want your dad to start. Tyler Shuck is pretty exciting. That being said, uh, my answer is going to be no. I do not think that Tyler Shuck should start week two. I think that it would be silly to start Tyler Shuck week two. I think that they would be doing wrong by Rattler and Tyler Shuck by making him the starter week two and I I think it it just would be organizational malpractice. What do you think? My prediction coming into the year was the earliest that we see Tyler Shuck if he didn’t win the QB1 battle was going to be around week five or six. Yeah. I don’t even think we’re on that path right now because after week one RER wasn’t the worst player on the field. No, he was not the reason that we lost yesterday. No. No, I I could not agree with you more. And we can look at the numbers. Uh, fortunately, we actually have some stats on that. Shout out to uh our one of our videos earlier today. We have actually some numbers we can take a look at. Um, in week one, 27 to 46, 214 yards, a passer rating of 70.4. Um, 4.7 yards per attempt. That’s not what is uh considered ideal. Um, but you got to push the ball downfield more often. You got to be able to be more confident like we just talked about in your receivers and in your weapons because quite honestly Spencer Rattler although he wasn’t the reason you w lost he also wasn’t much of a factor in helping you win. Alvin Chimera was the guy who scored the lone touchdown and on top of that you were unable to keep drives alive unable to get the offense set. So, in my personal opinion, Spencer Rattler, he’s kind of just proving to be a backup in my opinion. I would love to be proved wrong. However, considering it wasn’t much much better than what we’ve seen previously, my personal opinion, I think it’s worth keeping him in, getting a fair judgment, seeing what happens here. But, you know, I agree with Lopez. I think the earliest we would even see Tyler Shuck is like week six, to be totally honest. Ethan, let me answer your question. After watching week one, would you change your expectations for the Saints or will they stay the same? My expectations are going to stay the same because my expectations are what I’ve said multiple times at this point. Um, to be totally honest, as a Saints fan and as somebody who pays a lot of attention to this team, reads every article, watches every piece of film, studies every game, is locked in every single week, I can tell you that my expectations are that the New Orleans Saints are not going to win a lot of games, but they will be a very exciting and fun team. And I think week one proved that. I think that this is a team that could potentially be really exciting. I think they’re very reminiscent of the Dan Campbell led Lions in his first year. Not a lot of success. Three wins that year. Hell, they had a tie. I think a tie would be awesome for team morale. We had one in the preseason. That’d be lit. But I will also say I don’t think that I’m many more confident or any less confident in this season. I think this is just going to be one of those this is not going to be pretty. We’re going to have another high draft pick. But am I engaged? Am I entertained? And do I leave game days fuming like I did last year? If the answers are yes, yes, and no, then I think life is good. Car crash. That’s pretty funny. Uh, cut Jawan Johnson. Okay, that’s a little aggressive. Um, cut Jan Johnson right now. No, I don’t think I will. Um, first of all, if you cut Jawan Johnson, that would be stupid financially and it would be stupid from terms of roster management. Uh, Jawan Johnson, in case you did not know, was the week one receiving leader for the New Orleans Saints. Eight catches on 11 targets, 76 yards, had a long of 21. Obviously, the play of the game that everyone’s talking about is the drop that he had in the end zone at the very, very end to potentially tie the ball game. Um, it was a perfect throw by Spencer Rattler for what it’s worth. And I can understand where there’s frustration considering the Saints paid him a three-year $30.75 million contract to make catches like that. But I will also add that the Cardinals paid Jaylen Thompson and Buddha Baker money to make the plays that they did. Like I don’t think that this is necessarily an egregious drop by Jawan Johnson. more so I think it’s an excellent play by Jaylen Thompson and Buddha Baker. They were in the right place at the right time. Incredible effort. It was welltimed in terms of when they struck, when they made their plays, when they jumped for the ball. They just made a hell of a play and sometimes it doesn’t go your way. It’s called a 50-50 ball for a reason. Dwan Johnson, for what it’s worth, had the ball. He had it up here. He had it going down. Everyone was ready. You saw people celebrating on the field because as soon as he was coming down, you said that’s a catch because he went through the hard part. But you still got to hit the crowd. You got to maintain possession. And especially with all the new changes with the rules of how what is a catch and what isn’t. Got to have firm possession there. They just made a hell of a play. Got to give a lot of credit to Jaylen Thompson, Buddha Baker. Uh Baker is one of the best in the league at the safety position. Really can’t knock them for making a great play. Of course you would like to see Joan Johnson make that catch, but I’m with Rattler. I think a 100 out of 100 times that play should go to Dwan Johnson. Ja, who do you think or what do you think is our biggest Let’s try that again. Ja, what do you think our biggest weakness is? Uh, I’m going to be honest. In my personal opinion, I think the biggest weakness is the discipline for the New Orleans Saints. Um, I wouldn’t say it has anything to do with the roster because I do think that this is a quality roster that’s very underrated and very overhated. However, it’s not good enough to get 13 penalties, 89 yards in penalty yardage and climb yourself out of that. It’s just not good enough to do that. So, the biggest issue in my opinion and the biggest weakness is the lack of discipline. And I guess their biggest strength is the ability to get penalties at extremely inopportune times in games. So I think if they fix the uh the penalty issue, I think that would be really really great. We actually even addressed this in a video we recently published on the channel. So go check it out. Uh it’s linked in the comments and in the description. You can see it on the channel as well. So I hope you guys go check it out. Um penalties major major problem for the New Orleans Saints. one of the most penalized teams in the National Football League in week one. Uh hopeless Hudat. When will we get our first win? All right, let me pull up the schedule here. So, obviously, I think week one Lopez was one of those games that was extremely winnable. And for the sake of the first four weeks, I think that was the most winnable game. Um, maybe that’s a take that ages poorly as the season goes on because I actually think that the Cardinals were a sneak or are going to be a sneaky good team this year. So, week two, you have the Niners. I think that’s a winnable game. So, in terms of when will we get our first win? Maybe next week. That could happen. I think that’s a winnable matchup. Uh, Seahawks, what do you think about that one? Is that a winnable game? I honestly think 49ers and Seahawks both winnable games. The one that I have circle on my schedule as this the latest we get our first win is week five. I think we are a better football team than the New York Giants. I agree. And that one’s at home. I I think that’s a team that you should have no problem beating. Quite frankly, shout out Marshall Green. The Giants [ __ ] suck. I could actually see us go on a little twoame winning streak between week five and six. The Patriots didn’t look great either. No, they didn’t look good either. I’ll keep it real with you. Um we obviously haven’t gotten to see the Bears play because this video is being filmed on W or on Monday. Um Monday Night Football hasn’t played yet. at Bears versus Vikings, but we’ll see how they look. Dennis Allen’s le defense, Ben Johnson, Bears, Caleb Williams. We’ll see what goes on there. But week eight, you have the Buccaneers. NFC South games are always winnable. I will always vouch in that regard. Um, but I think that’s a game that might be kind of tough to win. Week 10, you travel to the Panthers. Week 11, you have your buy. Week 12, the Falcons. That’s a winnable game as well. Um, I don’t think you’re going to beat the Bills. They had a crazy crazy comeback in uh Sunday Night Football. So yeah, I I think that your first win, your best options, week two, week five, week six, and then I will say week 10 are your next few opportunities to get your first win. And then of course week 12 against the Falcons. Now I have earlier was answering a question about who should start for week two. So I want you to guys to kind of weigh in on that conversation in case you didn’t get the chance to share your thoughts on it. Who do you think should be the starting quarterback week two? Rattler Shuck? I think it needs to be Rattler. If you think Tyler Shut Tyler Shuck should start, type start. If you think he should sit, type sit. 1. How’s he proving to be a backup if the coach holds him back? Hellen needs to be Kellen and drop his 🥜’s and let Spence ball, cause I guarantee if shough comes in hellen wont hold him back. this season is about figuring out what talent we have not playin conservative and trying to win a Super Bowl, would be nice but not realistic.

  2. Expectations won’t change until the second quarter of the season. Week 5 through 8. Week 1 through 4 is just getting their shit together. Figuring out what works and what doesn’t and that includes players. Everything is new in New Orleans.

  3. Johnson has not been reliable in clutch moments. Dropped the TD this past Sunday same as he dropped the ball for the win against Washington last season. Every other part of the game he’s fine so you don’t cut him. You just DO NOT throw to Johnson when the game is on the line.

  4. I think the saints can honestly beat the 49ers

They didn’t look that good and I knew they wouldn’t, add in to the fact they lost kittle and Jennings could be out and I see a perfect window for us to win at home

    Also purdy may not play

  5. Evaluating future wins and losses after one game is crazy. Spencer Rattler played good enough to win, and whenever a team loses a game in the fourth quarter, the game was generally competitive. And that is what I saw. As to how these teams will wind up at the end of the season is anyone's guess.

  6. Johnsons gonna he ok. So what…he dropped a pass in the end zone. A lot of elite WRs do the same thing. Its not characteristic of him. He had some great catches in that game too. Was it heart breaking….sure. But not worth getting rid of him. Who else you gonna go get thats any better? He will bounce back. Man…people are so quick to wanna go to extremes over 1 play. Cmon guys. Smh.

  7. 11:59 bro yall goofy ass fans are acting like the Juwan drop was the same as the drop from foster moroe in 2023 vs the jags for the game tying touchdown I mean he was wide open and just dropped it Juwan was covered by 3 people and still almost caught it

  8. Your comments only on players, why not coach he is not being aggressive coach not trusting player (quarterback) he have to look around to do what he can not run all the time

  9. Juwan's drop is the talk of the game. But I would like to point out that if Rattler hit Brandin Cooks in stride a few plays before that, who knows what would've happened. He was wide open but had to fall down to catch it. Then he got up and ran out of bands. But I agree that it's really the 13 penalties that kept us out of the game. I have confidence that we will clean that up.

  10. Juwuan did all he could and that last play he was apart of that was indeed a touchdown he had full possession of the ball from time he caught it up until him going to ground . . It was catch anybody that knows ball seen that the ball came out after he had already made the touchdown and was down by contact cmon now ⚜️⚜️🤷🏽‍♂️
