Anaheim Might Ask Voters to Consider a Disneyland Gate Tax
September 11, 2025
As an Angels/Ducks fan, sounds like it could be a double whammy if this goes through

What will happen if this gose through?

It depends on what they (being the city) set the capacity limit for the capacity. The Ducks might not be affected if its set up above 18-20k. But other wise ticket prices going up
According to the article, it would do nothing for the Angels. I guess all MLB teams are exempt from a gate tax (go figure). This would only affect the Ducks (OC Vibe by extension) and Disneyland.
Wouldn’t be the worst idea to propose a gate tax as a limited thing. Maybe for 5 or 8 yrs, for example.
City in a deficit now, but could turn around in a few years. Revenue goes up & down all the time.
Might be time to look at city spending too. A revenue grab gate tax might be used to justify/continue some wasteful spending.
>Rubalcava said much of the city’s hotel taxes go to help pay down the bonds, including the Mickey and Friends parking garage that Disney leases for $1 a year and the city plans to hand over to the entertainment juggernaut once the 1997 bonds are paid off.
Wait what the fuck. I had no idea the Mickey and Friends structure was built with public funds. So Disney gets to keep all the revenue from parking after Anaheim spent over $108 million in taxpayer money to build it. I wonder how much Disney had to “donate” to the City Council to get such a favorable deal.
On another note, the article says the Angles would be exempt from the proposed gate tax because reasons.
