Mic’d Up Sights & Sounds: Week 1 at New York Jets | Pittsburgh Steelers

They say that in life, every change in season is a new opportunity. For these two quarterbacks, that has taken on a whole new meaning. This is the first time in NFL history we’ve had two game day starting quarterbacks that started for the previous team going head-to-head against each other. And for Aaron Rodgers, you have to think that it means a little bit more. They weren’t the only guys who were looking to make an impact in their new home. Some splash moves, the signing of Darius Slay, the trade for Jaylen Rams. This starts the season. This starts the journey. And of course, we get to see him along with DK Metaf and John Smith and some other guys. [Music] They have marked about the 35 yd line. Turns, gets a snap, gives to Hall. starts to the left now, finds a little crease, bursts through, crosses the 45, crosses midfield, gets into Steelers territory. Ironically, the Jets remained grounded to start the game. All run, one pass so far, and they have not seen a lack of success. Every play’s been positive. Shotgun. Allen is buried behind the line of scrimmage by Watt. The defense bent but didn’t break, forcing New York to settle for three. And that kick, as you would expect from Mick Folk, is drilled through. On the flip side, the Steelers decided to attack the Jets through the air. Rogers gets a snap back looking left, will throw on a slant. It is complete. It is a first down. Hauled in by Pat Frimouth to the 40 yd line. And the Steelers move the chains. Rogers in the shotgun. Gets a snap. The Jets bringing pressure. Gainwell picks it up. Floated out to the right. It’s complete to Metaf. gets around a defender down the sideline, barrels into Jets territory. Austin who comes in motion now stops. Playaction pass. Rogers rolling. He fires underneath. Wide open is Scoranic and Ben Scoranic is in for the score. Rogers to Skonic. Opening drive touchdown. The Steelers did not have a single opening drive touchdown last year. Not one. And on their opening drive this year, they march down and Rogers finds Scoranic for six. The Jets offense would answer quickly. Two Hbacks shotgun as Fields gets a snap back to pass as time lofted right has a man open. It is Garrett Wilson and Wilson is in for the score and the Jets have responded to the Steelers touchdown drive with a touchdown of their own. But Aaron Rogers would look to another big offseason acquisition. Shotgun gets a snap. Play action pass run thrown off quickly to Metap. Makes the man miss. Crosses the 30, the 40, heads to the sideline, crosses midfield and angles out of bounds near the 40 yd line of the Steelers. As Boswell does, he added another 50 y to his resume. Snap. Hold the boot by Boswell. That kick is up and that kick is good. The lead was shortlived. Hand it to him. Allen bulldozing and he is right there and in for the touchdown. With time winding down, the Steelers saw their chance to close the gap before the half. Rogers looks. Rogers throws up in the air. Calvin Austin climbs the ladder. First and goal. What a catch by Calvin Austin. Frier moved to the right. Now Smith in motion. He’s going to get the pitch. He is going to try to on the jet sweep get to the end zone. Lunges forward. Touchdown Pittsburgh Steelers. Jonnu Smith on the jet sweep left to right. Crashes into the pylon and gets the score for the Steelers. here at the end of the first half. 1917. Both defenses came out hungry after halftime. But late in the third quarter, the Jets would go up by two scores. And it is a touchdown for the New York Jets at the 346 mark of the third quarter. Justin Fields put on a show. All eyes were on Aaron Rogers. It’s a second down and 10 for the Steelers. Rogers in the pocket off his back foot. He hits Jaylen Warren. And Warren’s got room to the sideline. First down. Gets the snap. Back to pass. Looking looking. Pump fakes. Now steps up. Throws and has a man wide open. It’s Mechaf in the 30. Out to the right. crosses the 20 before he’s hit out of bounds. So Medaf moving left to right gets the reception. It’s 18 yd pickup there. Rogers under center play action pass. Looks out wide open is Jaylen Warren. Touchdown Pittsburgh Steelers. He trots into the end zone with no defenders in sight. On the ensuing kickoff, another new face made his presence felt. Gibson takes it right between the hashes. Lost the football. There it is. Recovered by the Steelers. Ben Scoranic is on it. I think it may have been Gainwell who knocked it loose. And it’s Scoranic who recovers. We needed some type of turnover, some type of sudden change. And Ben Skironic comes up with a big strip play. And look at that. You are on the doorstep. Yet once again, the Steelers wasted no time in capitalizing on the takeaway. Rogers under center. Playaction pass rolling to his right. Fires off the back foot. Calvin Austin. Touchdown Pittsburgh Steelers. The playaction pass. He gets Austin in the right portion of the end zone for the touchdown pass. Fourth of the day for Aaron Rogers. Oh, and the terrible towels are twirling here in Metife Stadium. The crowd has come alive. The defense looked to close out the game, but Fields had other plans. Gets a snap. Gives. No, fakes it to Hall. He’s going to keep it. And there is nobody there as he’s able to jog into the end zone. And the Jets have retaken the lead. And the Jets lining up with a one-point lead to go for two. Field gets a snap. Back to pass. Looking will throw to the right corner of the end zone. And it’s batted away. Big play Slay. That’s a big play there. With the Jets clinging to a one-point lead, the Steelers look to their veterans. Rogers gets the snap. The Jets bring five. Rogers a cross over the middle and it is complete to Frier. Rogers gets the snap. Back to pass. Lifting fires over the middle and deflected and caught. Holy mackerel. Wow. Off of Medaf off of Janu Smith who was standing near Medaf. Back to Medcaf on the ground and he somehow caught it. Boswell a 60yd attempt. Snap boot on the way. That kick is up and that kick is good. The great Chris Boswell drills one from 60 yds out to give the Steelers the 3432 lead with 103 remaining in the fourth quarter at Metife Stadium. As the clock ticked down, the defense stood tall. 30 seconds remains as his Steelers clinging to a 3432 lead. Fields on fourth down steps up. Fields delivers. Catchman and the ball is loose. Garrett Wilson could not secure it. And Jaylen Ramsay has slammed the door shut. 29 Pro Bowls acquired by the Steelers during the off season and it pays off in the end. Aaron Rogers gets a win in his first game as a Steeler.

  1. One play or sequence that made me hopeful was that fumble. We had a lot of takeaways last year they either ended in no points or only 3. The fact that we put up 6 after a takeaway is huge. I feel like that was our shortcoming last year and even the year before. Offense was subpar but defense made up for it with timely takeaways and then offense just couldn’t take advantage. If we can make those splash plays this year and actually put up 6…. Watch out AFC, we’re coming

  2. Thinking of all those NFL experts from ESPN to YouTube and their vicious attacks on Rodgers.

Two nut cases said Rodgers should have played a couple of series in preseason, because last year, he was "jittery" until late in the season and you need to shake off the rust, get the feeling of a few hits and the feel of being in a stadium Really? You think a couple of preseason series will loosen you up, get rid of the nerves, but playing 8 games won't?

I sometimes wonder if these experts ever listen to what they say. The man owes the Steelers an apology, because he had not signed when the talking heads demanded he sign. Like it makes a bit of difference. It ain't like if he signs then the team goes straight to practice, practice is dictated by the Players Union contract.

Same talking heads said he missed the very important O.T.A.'s. Again, so did a ton of veterans, O.T.A.'s are not mandatory and nobody is suited up with pads, running plays for 2 weeks, it's about 3 days of here is your foot massage machine and playbook, come pick up your new fancy duffle bag.

Rodgers can certainly toss 2 more touchdowns than Patrick Mahomes, because that's what he did last year when he was WASHED UP, remember?

  3. I don't understand how Boz and some of these kickers handle these high pressure kicks. His 60 yarders is literally the difference between 0-1 and 1-0. It's incredible. The vibes around the franchise are totally different if he misses that kick. That is just insane pressure
