Players acquitted in Hockey Canada sex assault trial can return to NHL on Dec. 1

  1. I think we forgot they were put to trial and were acquitted, “innocent until proven guilty” is lost on this crowd.

  2. Good, they were acquitted and should be free to resume their lives. It’s a shame it’s taken this long

  3. They can, but they shouldn’t. It’s understandable that what they did wasn’t incriminating. But as a fan, there’s zero chance I cheer for any of these people ever again. I don’t have kids, but I definitely wouldn’t be taking them to any games they play in if I did have them.

  4. Besides Hart, are any of these guys even worth rostering anyways? 3rd/4th line players at best that come with baggage to say the least. Yes, I know they were acquitted but if they do sign and play for a team it will be the talking point and center of attention for the media. Whether you like it or not there will be some backlash, and owners will ask if it’s even worth it.

  5. Garbage teammates. Put their organizations through hell because of their lousy judgement. Gangbanged a drunk chick on a work trip. Certainly not fan-friendly. Not sure why any team would want to diminish their brand by associating with any of these losers.

  6. Awesome.

In case anyone missed it, here’s the female judge’s remarks about the “victim”:

Carroccia said she found E.M. was “asking the men to participate in the sexual activity” that night and that McLeod checked in with her to make sure she was OK.
“I am not satisfied that he invited the men into Room 209 without the knowledge of E.M.,” she says.
In this case, she found E.M. “expressed a willingness to engage in sexual activity” with Formenton.

“I accept his evidence that it was a mutual decision to go to the bathroom,” the justice says.

When E.M. was naked in the room and other men showed up, she “didn’t retreat. She walked into the room naked and began to masturbate on a bed sheet,” Carroccia says.

She watched all the videos and read all the texts.

  7. OK let me check my Reddit notes.

    Murder is OK.
Participating in a gangbang is not.

Very hard to keep things straight these days, but I am trying!

  8. To those who think they’re 100% absolved and that people don’t have a right to judge their character because the verdict was “not guilty,”it’s not the same thing as being innocent. A court can’t (or realistically shouldn’t) convict based on the presence of reasonable doubt, even if they were confident a crime was committed. If you need a more detailed example, watch an episode of Law and Order SVU.

  9. Cater diddy hart you are an oiler! I wonder how other players will react to them if and when they get back on the ice?

  10. Without taking a position in whether they should be permitted to return to the NHL at all, why December 1, and not immediately, especially if the league is announcing it now? If the league was conducting an investigation based on the league’s personal conduct policy with a lower burden of proof than the criminal justice system, I could understand taking time to complete the investigation. But here the league does not appear to have done so and they’ve been acquitted, so what’s the rationale for allowing them to return December and not now?

  11. So if they are absolved of a crime, do they still get paid from their NHL salaries? And do those salaries go against the teams cap?
