YEAR ONE: Ron Holland’s First Year In The NBA | Original Documentary
[Music] DGN, [Music] tell me the consequence. We’re living with confidence. We already hit, already paid the price. We already took the risk. We already missed. Yeah, boy. Look at this. Who could have ever did it better? We on a whole different league. We on a whole different level. Oh, I’m in the booth like I got something to prove. I am the truth that with you yesterday. You hear you still in the way. We already playing for championships. We playing for titles. We playing for rings. We playing for banners. Playing for legendary idols. I got them praying for revival. I got a message for my rivals. I want the bells and all the titles. I see the future so clear. They said this is our year. We going up from here. We’re going up. We going up. We going up from here. [Music] We are in downtown Brooklyn for one of the most highly anticipated events on the NBA calendar. It’s a night when hard work pays off and dreams come true. Welcome to the first round of the 2024 NBA draft. Over the next two nights, a new class of the most elite basketball players in the world will begin their NBA journeys. will meet the young men who will become future champions, MVPs, and all stars. Good evening and welcome to the 2024 NBA draft. All the players selected tonight have their own unique story that led them here to the draft. A culmination of years of hard work and dedication. This is one of those teams that could probably turn things around quickly again with so much talent that they have on the roster. Add a couple of pieces. Add another young talent here. You don’t know what you can do in the East to come. Who will the Pistons take at number five? Here’s Adam Silver. [Music] With the fifth pick in the 2024 NBA draft, the Detroit Pistons select Ron Holland II from Dallas, Texas, and the NBA GLeague’s team Ignite. We’re talking about a young man, the fifth top 10 pick from the GLeague Ignite. And Ron Holland, when you look at his frame and all the things he can do, he’s an attacker, an 18-year-old attacker who loves to finish. And of course, he has a thing for the flare. [Applause] [Music] I feel like me going into this this franchise, um, being able to help them out with this this good group of guys, good group of young guys that they have. I’m definitely super excited to get down there and get to work. What’s one thing you want to do or finish personally, professionally before you up and pack up and move to Detroit, a brand new city for you. really just talk to everybody that has been through been through with me throughout this whole process and just really sit down and tell them how thankful I am for that. Um I’ve I’ve been through so much and just being able to be here blessing this opportunity that God has put me in. Um I’m super thankful for everybody that’s been a part of my journey and once I get to tell them that I feel like everything will be said and done and I’ll be on my way to Detroit just to you know what I’m saying get settled in and have a good one. Excuse me. Is it okay? Yes, ma’am. Yes, ma’am. Right now. International and Trey Fields. Yeah. Can’t wait to get you here in Detroit. Yes, sir. I appreciate y’all. Thank y’all so much. Yeah. Hey man, you get to do this one time. Yes, sir. Tonight with your family and your loved ones. Have a great deal. Congratulations. Yes, sir. I appreciate you. Thank you. Yes, sir. Here we’re talking about Ron Holland. We’re talking about the number five pick. I think when you’re looking at a potential two-way win, this is the ultimate answer in the draft. Ron, like this is a guy that came in with like a sterling reputation. Like he won in high school, like he was seen as a potential number one pick. I like Ryan. I think he’s a great upside swing. I think he has everything you want in the wing. And I’m curious to see uh just sort of how he settles then to this roster. But the other thing I really like about Allan is that he is just he has an endless motor. Like he dives for every loose ball. Like he’s just like the ultimate hustle guy. We’re here just landing and Troy about to hop on the flight. I’m finally here. We were just talking about this. [Music] Pleasure. Today’s an important day as we introduce the newest member of the Detroit Pistons, who will no doubt play an important role in the future of the franchise. And I want to extend a sincere welcome to the friends and family of our newest Piston, Ron Holland. Oh, that’s crazy. I got to get that, man. Ah, yeah, man. That is tough. When thinking about Ron and when we scouted Ron and watching a lot of tape um and studying him, Ron embodies what we want all of our players to be here in in in the city of Detroit for our fans and for this city. Highly competitive and a high character young man that comes from a great family. We feel he has the ability to impact both ends of the floor um at a high level and um he’s scary in transition. The thing too that really impressed me about Ron and impressed us was he knows who he is. The people that you speak about that you want to play like um you know you’re a defense first guy, team first, you want to win and uh for us and for me you becoming our first pick. So congratulations again, Ron, and welcome to Detroit. Summer League is just a few weeks away. I can’t wait. I mean I’m I’m super excited for summer league. Just really getting to play against guys that I’ve been upcoming with other other drafties that’s been drafted. um really just going out there ready to compete and really show what Detroit Prisoners is really about to step into. [Music] Welcome to the NBA 2K25 summer league. Getting set for the second of our quadruple header on this floor. Thomas and Mag Center in Las Vegas as the Pistons and the Sixers get set to get underway. Iron Holland I second a warming up. Holland from the wing. Bucking feels like I said amazing. Um just on the bus right here I’m I’m thinking in my head like I’m really in the NBA now. I mean everything that I’ve been doing up until this point. Don’t worry about it. I got to I got to step on the court and still be Ron Holland at the end of the day. The way he gets up and down the court, his athleticism, his jump shots getting better. He’s only going to get better with making better decisions. But when we get to the basket, he wanted the best up already in this young career. I got really comfortable really fast. Um, it took just one game for me to really get comfortable and be able to play with the guys that I was playing with. Really love the summer league team. Um, I feel like I got I feel like I got loose a little bit. You know what I’m saying? Running throws it up. Holland the Detroit finding the alleys. It means a lot. Um, just knowing that I was drafted here and they seen a lot of potential in me and it just showing that they believed in me. So that’s the start right there and it builds a lot of confidence within myself just to be able to put that jersey on um with the last name Holland on the back and it says Detroit Pistons and it’s just I’m super blessed and excited for this opportunity and I can’t wait for it. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Let’s do it. We over here with it. This your time to shine right now. And I got I got y’all on my team, so let’s get a win. All right, let’s go. Win on three. 1 2 3. Let’s do it. One thing I can always say, this is all I’m about. Um I feel like I was just, you know what I’m saying? One of these kids just trying to get all the knowledge in the world to help me out with my career. And now that I’m able to give back and give all the information that I’ve gained back to these kids, I mean, it’s going to help them out whether they want to play basketball or become a doctor or anything. My story and help them do whatever they want to do in life. So, I’m really glad and appreciative to help them out in life. Keep moving it. Keep moving it. Oh yeah. Lay up. Lay up. Lay up. Here we go, White. Here we go, White. Here we go. And one. And one. Nice. My man. My man. Your little man. Free throw. They free. They free. They free. Time out. Time out. Time out. Yes sir. Wait. Oh my goodness. 30 seconds. Here we go. How’s that transition been like for you? you kind of said for yourself, how difficult is that being so young, one of the youngest players in the NBA right now? Um, mingling with the older people, for sure. Uh, like you said, it is pretty difficult, but um, I think we’re all creatures of habit. Um, just growing up, like I like I told y’all, um, just always be yourself. So, one thing I carry with myself is that I’m always one of the highest energy people when I walk into the gym and I always light up a dark room. Whether it’s I read the room, if it’s a bad bad um energy in the gym, bad energy in the room, anything, I try to brighten it up, try to be that happy person that turn things around. And I feel like that’s one thing that I always people can say about me is that I always bring energy and it’s the it’s it’s a the right energy. It’s positive energy. There’s a such thing as negative energy and you never really want to bring that. So that’s great stuff. One thing I can always say is always bring positive energy and that’s one thing that’ll always stick by your name. 1 2 3 Detroit basketball. Rob, welcome to Detroit. Yes, sir. You’re not a Detroiter if you got the old English day on your chest. For sure. We’re all part of the city. Oh, yeah. There you go. Yes, sir. With this. Yeah. There you go. All right. You guys ready? of the year, baby. Your lucky day. Get your rental tickets down. Let’s go, baby. Go really good or really bad. Let’s go. Heat. Heat. You seen it? Okay. I just needed to warm up with him. Y’all seen it. That was a st and they told me don’t throw no fast ball. I could have really went out there. You know what I mean? Luis Robert Jr. I mean starting off we got obviously I’m here at the um Tigers facility going to throw the first pitch. Um tomorrow I mean it starts I mean we can we kind of got a little chill day to just to get prepared for everything. Then Monday we got media day and that’s just going to be I mean it’s year one for me and all these other guys that’s been in the league for all these years that play with the Pistons. Um they they saying it’s going to be a good one. Um, so I think me putting the the new jersey on that we just made is really nice. By the way, um, taking my first pictures on with me being in the NBA for the first time, it’s it’s going it’s going to hit different. And then right after that, straight to it, training camp, Tuesday, October 1st, and it’s going to be intense. We going to get to it. Um, looking forward to this new team, and I think we going to make some noise this year for sure. Thank you. [Music] I like his effort. I mean, that that was the scout. That’s what the the Piston sold draft night. Lang talked about that. From what I saw in summer league, you can you can definitely see that he’s got an NBA body. I like the way he crashes the glass. There’s a fearlessness about him. I I mean, to me, he’s got to be part of the rotation at least a little bit. really trying to listen to everything so I can really take in and really just listen everything they have to say so I can have the smoothest rookie year as possible because it’s going to be some ups and downs with this thing but people tell me not to get too high or too low with this. So I was definitely trying to withhold that information. You’ve always been described as someone who’s very athletic, but when you get to this level and and you see that there’s a lot of guys who are pretty athletic, how how does it translate for you? Uh I like what you said. Um, when you get up here, I mean, everybody athletic. Everybody can dunk, run, jump, shoot, all that. But I think it translates uh pretty well, honestly. Um, like I said, like you said, um, and previously, I mean, I was the most athletic in my group, and now I’m with Assar Thompson, Kade, all these guys that can run, jump, and do the same thing. So, now we ready to put it together. You want to see from them on Sunday in Sunday’s game? Uh, I mean, just, you know, the want to learn. Um, you know, there is no game like the NBA game. There’s no way to replicate it. Um, you know, playing with the level of talent, the speed, all those things. Uh so just watching them um you know learn from daytoday ask the right questions you know I watch our young guys spend so much time with our veteran players picking their brain uh those types of things and then you know it’s always about the competition uh when you step on the floor you know how hard are you competing uh and how selfless are you playing the game and then we’ll build from there. First of all you excited about the first game? I’m ready for tomorrow. We’ve been we’ve been going through so much starting from summer league up until this point now. had a good preseason showing and I’m ready to get to it just like these guys are. You got a like a game day fit already kind of set already like first day of school. I got my sister out here. She did my draft and she really be doing my fashion stuff. So, she putting something together to the crib right now. So, it’s the Pistons and the Indiana Pacers. It’s the season opener. It’s the home opener and we are hoping for a heck of a basketball game here tonight. Whole family here. I’m going to be here in the city behind us about to tell y’all look. Another addition to the team I did not mention before, the rookies. Ron Holland the second taken number five overall this past draft out of the G-League Ignite. Here’s what JB thinks about his first round pick. Ron has earned the opportunity to be a part of our rotation. Um he’s a guy who just competes at a high level. He’s not one of those young guys who feels like he’s got to come in and score, score, score to impact the game. Uh, so for a young guy, he figured out early how to impact a team. Uh, and that was his priority. It wasn’t about, okay, I got to get mine. I got to do my thing. It was, no, no, no, let me go out here, compete to try to win. Ron Holland coming in for Detroit. On the floor, Stew down there digging in the dirt, saves it. Fontekio misses, but followed in by Holland. Clean up by Double Zero. Good hustle. That felt crazy. The first time we checked in, we end up getting a layup. I was so gassed. Like I was so tired after that. But I was just so amped up because the crowd was lit. I was lit. The team bench was lit. Coach was lit. Meanwhile, Detroit’s top five draft pick Ron Holland the second. His non-stop motor is a welcome sight to Pistons fans and teammates alike. Holland with a drive quickly to the rim. Lays it up. Lays it in. Good feed into the corner for Holland. Holland working baseline gets over. Nice job all around the offensive. Off it comes to Holland to the basket. Lays it up. Lays it in. Good job. Good job. Gordon. Holland to the rim. Lifts it up and in. All right. Good try to take it away to the basket for a jam. Hang time. He has another triple double. Meanwhile, Ron How to the basket off the glass. Good. That’s a strong move. That was a strong move. [Music] Here [Music] we are again. 111 1111. 9/10 of a second remaining. Kade will inbound it. Here we go. Chance for the win. Cunningham looking to get it in. Lobs it inside the Mor. Oh, Ron. Holland. That was a great boy. That was a heck of a chance. That was a great play. Tried to get that thing up there softly. One second. Free throws coming for Ron Holland. Come on, Rook. Put it in. Let’s go. Two shots. 11 points for the rookie. [Applause] First one on the way. And he missed it. That’s a lot of pressure. That’s okay. Oh, you did, too. It’s okay. All you got to do is make this one. Come on, young fella. 111 111. They got them staring at their baskets tonight. Let’s go. Let’s go home, son. Let’s get ready. Chance for the win. No. Tipped up. Almost in by Cage. That’s okay. Head to overtime. Jaylen Duran went out said, “Young fella, you’ll have some more chances.” And then Milwaukee ended up pulling away in overtime. We end up they we ended up losing the game. I mean it was it was a hard moment for me. Of course, nobody wants to be in a a situation where you lose you think you lose the game for your team, but I mean those guys had my back. Um I know I’m a good free throw shooter. Um so I really was trying to hang my head for real. Um I know it was regular season. Probably had 60 more games after that. So I couldn’t really dwell on that too much. I’m sure Ron Holland is beating himself up a little bit, feeling like, hey, I got the chance to start. I could have been the one to seal this game. What do you tell him after this one? Uh just keep his head up. Um, you know, Ron’s been a great free throw shooter for us all year. Um, he works it on it. Um, you know, these are the moments that you have to have uh in order to succeed later on. Um, these are the moments that you have that push you to want to get better. Uh, and I know he’ll use that um fuel for fire. I mean, honestly, when I look back at it, I was blessed to be in that situation. Like, nowadays, you don’t see too many rookies being put in that situation. So, the fact that coach had me in the game and trusting me in that moment, it was just like, I mean, I I I want moments like that. But I want more and more moments like that to where I mean if it come down to a crunch time game situation I I want to be in the game. I want to be the person shooting the game winner game winning free throws because I mean that’s how I get my name in the conversation with the Grayson being one of the best players ever played the game. So I I live for moments like that. I I want to be in it again. It’s the Pistons and Raptors this evening from Sosa Bank Arena in Toronto. The Pistons fell to 5-8 with the loss on Wednesday, but the turnaround’s been fun to watch early this season. After starting off the year 0 and4, Detroit’s ripped off five of their last nine games. Always competing on a night in night out basis. Barrett against Holland now and knocked away off Barrett. Good defense by Ron Holland. He’s a dog, you know, and that’s a good thing. Toss to Holland down the right side of the lane and gets rewarded. This young man has good awareness of where he is on the floor. Throw it away. Holland with a steal. Nice move behind the back to get around Purle. A European move off the glass and down. Oh, what an effort by Holland. Up ahead. Oh, and it blocked out of bounds. Ron Holland’s defense contagiously carries over from the first half here into the second half. You got to always give back to the youth. They’re the next coming up, families, communities. It’s how it’s how the game works. Like, it’s the evolution. Fans come support us. We inspire. So, giving back is extremely important. I mean, you know that. Yeah, for sure. You know, inspiration. You’re inspiration to the to the next generation. I’m not going to compare it to last year, but like the vets we brought in, they know how to balance like being serious and being a little goofy when it’s time. Just the personalities, everybody making each other laugh. Even like like Ron like he kind he came in like I’m not going to lie, but he I feel like he helped change the culture cuz he came in and he come in turn the music on, blast the music, play music. we say like how the the vets came in and changed stuff, which they definitely did, but it’s not just the vets. I feel like it’s everybody. I mean, I knew I fed in. I fit in as soon as the first day I walked through the door. And I just seen the energy and everything. So, everybody was just telling me to be myself. And I mean, it ain’t really much more I could have asked for. And I feel like I’ve done a great job of doing that. That’s who he is. Guys that have been here, I know like our vets love them. The whole team loves them. But to have a rook that’s so about the right things, it’s cool to see. It’s a lot of fun to to be able to like talk to him and try to help guide him through the NBA um figuring out the NBA. But I mean, he’s I mean, he’s had a great year so far. He’s brought a lot of energy. He’s changed some games for us um with his energy, with his passion. He’s just so competitive and he’s like so about winning. So, I’m excited for him. He’s going to be in the NBA a long time making plays and I think Detroit is super lucky to have him. City loves him. I know they do. I mean, how could you not? For real. Like he’s everything Detroit is for sure. And everybody contribute tonight. Okay, that was a great job. Uh, who got the ticket off? Who got [Applause] one? It means a lot. Um, me being a part of this this turnaround thing, but I mean, I know how I play, the grit toughness that I bring to this team. Um, I kind of get give off that energy for everybody to do that. And now that I mean, Detroit is known for things like that. So now that we have a team that really um thrives off doing that, I mean it means a lot to me because I mean that just shows the passion that us as a franchise have for this game [Music] from Detroit pisses himself Ron Holland in the house. Ladies and gentlemen, off the court this season I’ve learned that I mean how much I’m I really am into giving back to the community. Um, I really enjoy doing that. Um, it’s one thing that me being a kid that was a fan of a lot of of basketball players growing up and got getting to see them now, it’s just like I was just in these kids shoes that I’m kind of giving back to. So, it’s just amazing walking into places and being able to see kids smile and just show how the much of an impact that we have on their life. So, I really enjoy doing that. dribble. Oh, can you hold it? You can hold it. I’mma try. She can’t hold it. Oh. Oh, yeah. He going to He trying to get to it. He trying to play some drills. Oh, we need one more. The ball. Say thank you. Come over here so we can take a picture. She is really trying to hold on to that ball. She holding with her feet. one when we went on a little stretch of winning games and like we knew they were going to be tough games. We were so locked in because we knew we had a chance to clinch to the six seed or fifth seed really just where we wouldn’t have to play in the play. 10689 Pistons poke it away. Twoonone break. Ron Holland doesn’t give it up. Instead, he throws it down. Ron Holland with a long gun. It goes. Good for Ron. Bob over the top stole by Holland. Oh, that’s a D. Holland ahead. Those it go and a foul. Dennis Shooter head down. Corner feed to Holland. The triple try. Bang. It’s through for three. Ron Holland strikes. The connection that we had just felt a little different and we were so locked in as a group as a whole, as a franchise. And I feel like that was the best moment of the year for me because like I said, everybody was on the same page and we were rolling. Nicks mishandle it. Muel Bridges has it in the corner. Overplayed by Ron Holland is out of bounds. Off New York. He is a catalyst right now. The baseline but saved assass. [Music] [Applause] What stands out about this team is I mean the love that we have for each other for us. Um I feel like we really care about each other. Um we all we allow each other to to lead. Um we all know that we can learn something new every single day no matter who it’s from. Whether it’s coming from me, the rookie or the vet like Tobias. Um we’re all willing to listen to each other. Don Holland Holland to the basket in a hurry. Lays it up. Lays it in. And we just we just stick together. Like I said, we go we’ve been through a lot of adversity throughout all this this specific season um on and off the court, but we always found a way to push through and just stick together and be able to have fun while doing it cuz I mean having fun while doing it on the court and then just playing with an empty mind, free mind. We out there just playing basketball for just hooping. Three games left till I’m not a rookie no more. Feel really good about it. One more from the corner top side to Holland. Here’s the three and it’s through. Ron Holland triple whips the sideline of Ron Holland. He can get to the hoop. Does grains it. Count that baby and a foul. The playoffs have arrived for the Pistons. Good evening everybody. Welcome to NBA playoff basketball. It’s been a while. 2019 for the Detroit Pistons and they will face the New York Knicks. Guns for three. That’s long. Rebound swiped from Shaman by Ron Holland. Way too quick for Sham. Deflection and Anovi ahead and Bridges missed it out of nowhere. Holland. I mean, as time just went on, days practices, we kind of just got closer and closer and closer and we end up having a historic season. and um we end up finishing a little shorter than we wanted to. Um obviously the goal is to bring a championship to this franchise, but I feel like we going to get there with this team for sure. So that’ll do it for this season. The Pistons got it to game six against the New York Knicks, and the Knicks came out on top. I feel like uh as a as a player and as a person, I really want to be remembered as I mean one of the best to ever do it. Um and just one of the best guys around that just had that just light up a dark room. You know what I’m saying? That’s just one thing that I always had all the leadership qualities that I have. I know what I got coming ahead of me walking into training camp with the guys. Um showing that we all been getting better. And then once we got preseason, regular season, and it’s on after that, like we I feel like as a group, I mean, we know what we should have did last year. So, we definitely going to have a chip on our shoulder coming back. And I mean we to it all

Am I the only one who thinks the 00 was fire on Ron
Yes
This shit got me hyped for the season now!!!!!
Great video!!! π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯
I'm really stoked to see what Ron does this year. The stupid people that are sticking him in trades already just to get some supposed star that would likely cost to much will deny they ever proposed such stupid trade ideas after this upcoming year.
Canβt believe he didnβt get ROY votes. Also the suspension was crazy, mans shoulda had 82 games in his first season
