Nationals vs. Marlins Game Highlights (9/11/25) | MLB Highlights
The Marlins and the Nationals tangle for one final time here in 2025. The Marlins, if they win, will tie this series and also win the season series. Each team has won six games so far. As we head into play tonight in the season series here, September the 11th, 2025, 24 years later, as baseball remembers, we shall never forget. Looking forward to watching Ryan Weathers back on the mound for the Marlins. June 7th in Tampa was his last start. What we what we want to look for is man, he’s got to he got to pull the reinss back because, you know, he’s dying to get out there. He’s been dying to get out there for a long time. So, he has to keep it steady, not let the game get ahead of him too fast, slow down, and throw strikes the way we’ve seen him do in the past. CJ Abrams to lead off tonight. There’s a first swing base hit. CJ Abrams, it’s going to be his fifth hit of the series. Hello Dylan Cruz the hitter now. There’s a fly ball in the air to right field in the direction of Joey Weame making his 12th start of the season in right field tonight. He makes the catch one away. Riley Adams back in the lineup and hitting third. Adams missed last night’s game and came out of the game two nights ago. Hit in the groin area with a foul ball. Two two swung on it miss. Good change up from Ryan. First strike out of the night. Welcome back Weathers. Here’s Dalen Lyle. Delayed steal maybe Abrams in there. That’s number 30 for CJ. Really good idea, especially on against a left-handed pitcher when you’re not able to maybe get your best jump. Try to see if you can catch the defense sleeping. Abrams on the move. That one cut on and missed. And Navaredto cannot get a throw off. That’s because that is a punch out to end the inning. Ryan Weathers strands a leadoff knock from Abrams on the first pitch. He throws by King back two. Mackenzie Gor making his 28th start of the season. Good to see him back on the mound after a couple weeks off. Kind of interesting, Dinard that he starts against Weathers. Gore was San Diego’s first round pick in 17. Weathers the Padres’s first rounder one year after that. How about that switch hitter Xavier Edwards leads off. He’ll bat from the right side. Ground ball out towards Abrams. Can’t field it cleanly. We’ll see if they give Edwards a hit. They may, but we’ll see. If it’s an error, it’s his 19th. If it’s a hit, it’s Edward’s sixth of the series. The official MLB box score has for the moment given Xavier Edwards a base hit. We’ll see if they change it. Here’s Augustine Ramirez. The DH Ramirez ground ball in the hole. Abrams dives. Can’t get it. Backto back singles for the fish against Gore. Now left on left match up for Jacob Marcy with McKenzie Gore. Marcy with the bouncer over to first. Shaparo’s got it. He fires over to second. They get the middleman Augustine there. X does push to third, but that is a fieldielder’s choice. Three to six. And here’s Edberto Hernandez. He swings and lifts a highf fly ball to left field. Lyles going back on the track. He makes the catch. Tagging from third and scoring is Xavier Edwards going first to second is Jacob Barcy. Good base running there. A sack fly for Erie Berto. And hey, the Marlins have an early one- nothing lead. Here’s the first baseman, Eric Wagaman. Eric Wackamman bangs one into center field for a base hit. That’ll give the Marlins an early two nothing lead. Nice piece of two out hitting by Eric Wagamman who drives in his 48th of the year. Wagman was waiting for that fast ball. He got a fast ball. He’s at 95 and he ripped it right back up the middle. Marcy with two outs. Off and running at the crack of the bat able to come around and score rather easily. Joey Weame rolls one over to third. Brady House has got that. His cross time and throw in time to get Weame and the inning is over. But damage done on a sack fly from Hernandez and an RBI knock from Wags. We go to the second. Two nothing pitch. Ryan Weathers has himself the two nothing lead. Pitch count looking good. The stuff looking even better. Two scoreless for Ryan in his return. Got Cruz at first. Young just pushed to third. Runners at the corners. Two men gone. Top of the third inning. Took two. He’s cut on and missed. 99 upstairs. Ryan Weathers. He went back to the heater and he got his punch out. It’s number four and he strands men at the corners. So, two away here in the bottom of inning number three. Next up, Marcy. Six in a row retired by McKenzie Gore. And not for long as Marcy yanks one in the right field. Jacob Marcy. Another day, another base knock. That’s a two out single to right. And that is a two-out walk issue to Hernandez. Runners at first and second for Eric Wagman. The pitch swing and a miss. He struck him out with a curveball. pitch low and away and so Adams put the tag on Wagaman to complete the strike out to second for Gourd. That’s back-to-back singles to open the top of the fourth for Washington. They trail two nothing with two on and nobody out be Brady House who bounced out to second his first time up. And Weathers would love another one of those ground balls right now. And it’s grounded to second. Taylor made four 63 double play. Nicely done all the way around. Thing of beauty right there. Ask and you shall receive. He grounded out his first time up to Xavier and he did it again. This time the 463 variety. Nice athletic play by Maximo who’s playing shortstop here tonight. Payoff pitch that one on one hop over to the forehand of the shortstop. Costa sets his feet, tosses to first and the inning is over. Ryan Weathers works around backto-back knocks to open the inning with a double play and a ground out. He strands a man at third. Ryan Weather’s back to work here in the fifth. He’s been very good in his return tonight. The boys got two runs in the first inning for him. Facing 891 for Washington here in the fifth. And CJ Abrams loops the ball out to right hanging up for Joey Weame. He’s underneath and he makes the catch. Ryan Weathers in 67 pitches is through five scoreless. So McKenzie threw four innings, 62 pitches. He was right around I think 39 strikes. Top of the order here in the fifth. Corore has back-to-back strikeouts giving him four. Had to work to get those two. Seven pitches to each hitter now. So a Thompson getting ready. Core will get the chance to finish off the inning facing Jacob Marcy. A one. Marcy with a bouncing ball over to second. Nasim Nunes stays down on that. Tosses to first and the inning is over. One, two, three with a couple of punch outs for McKenzie Gorp. Back-to-back free passes issued by uh Cole Henry to Senoha and Edwards. And that sets the table now for Augustine Ramirez. They’re going again. Oh, this could be interesting. Oh, covering first. Yes, Nunes. Yes. 34 popup double play. The risk you run. Yeah. When starting two runners, usually you get picked off on a line drive. That was a popup that turns into two. Jacob Marcy, he’s got a stand up leadoff double to begin the bottom of the eighth. And again, a big insurance runs out there. 14 doubles now for Jacob Marcy. That missed inside for ball four. That popped away from Al Faro and Marcy will push up 90 ft on the wild pitch. So a walk and a wild pitch have runners at the corners with nobody gone for Eric Wagman. There’s a line drive to left field, sinking fast, diving. Laya gets by and it goes all the way to the wall. Marcy will score easily. Here comes Mesa Jr. racing around third. Throw coming towards the plate. Not in time. Wagamman’s on his way to third. Well, you just love the way he’s been swinging the bat lately. That’s why he was a perfect guy up there in that situation. Absolutely stung that ball into left field. Sinking line drive. Lyall thought he had a chance. Solid swing. Third base hit of the night for Eric Wagaman. Here’s Joey Wemer. There’s a high fly ball to left field. Dalen Lyles going back shy of the track. This will get the job done. On the ninth pitch, Weame lifts it to left. That’ll score Eric Wagaman on a sack fly from third. Super job. Good job by Joey Wemer to stay in there, make contact, get it deep enough to score the run from third. Five nothing Marlins after a three spot in the bottom of the eighth. and pitching looking to wrap up a shutout victory is Michael Peterson. One more out to get for Michael Peterson for a shut out victory over Washington. On miss strike three and the ball game is over. Marlins toss and combined for their 10th shutout victory of the season. 5 nothing over the Washington Nationals. That is a 4-ame series split and the season series belongs to the Marlins.
