Chicago Cubs vs. Tampa Bay Rays MLB game highlights (September 12, 2025) l Marquee Sports Network

Hey, hey. Welcome to Cubs baseball here on Marquee Sports Network. Here this afternoon, it’s the Cubs hosting the Tampa Bay Rays. It’s the first of a threeame set. They’re fired up. The Cubs right now at the top spot in the NFL Wildard standings. Top three teams make the playoffs. So, the Cubs hoping to clinch coming up and we’ll wait to see who they would play. Matthew Boyd on the mound Friday afternoon. And the Cubs wearing those baby blues. What do you got on Matthew? Yeah, well, he uh leads the club with 17 quality starts, tied for 12th most in MLB, 166 and a third innings, the most he’s had since 2019. And the fast ball has been up a tick this year as well, averaging a little better than 93 mph. Fast ball change, slider, and curve for the veteran left-hander. Trots out there with a record of 12-8 and a 2.92 earned run average. All right, let’s check out our starting lineups and it’s brought to you by Ford. Chandler Simpson who can really run at the top of the order followed by Yandi Diaz. Christopher Morell our old friend in 30s the DH. Their slugger is junior Camro. Camero with 42 home runs. Jake Mangum is in right field. He’s a switch hitter. Everson Pereira will hit six. Palasios Forez and Carson Williams rounding out the lineup. Then the other one that will drop because of gravity. Line drive and a base hit into left field. That one is outside and it’ll be Boyd to go retrieve it on the wild pitch. And down to second was Chandler Simpson. At ball four, number 24, Christopher Morell. Got some applause for Morell who was out early on the field and greeting ushers and security people and everybody down on the field. Highf fly ball out towards left center field. That one back back some more and that one is gone. Christopher Morell a threerun homer of the former Cub has given the Rays the lead. Well, that’s part of his game, too. Certainly has plenty of power. Goes deep for the 11th time this year. His return to Wrigley. He’s got to be feeling awfully good about that. He homered in his first at bat as a Cub and now he homers in his first at bat back here against the Cubs. Had a fast ball at 93 out away from him but up and he just rides it out of here. Michael Bush set to lead it off. We take a look at the Cubs lineup. It’s brought to you by Vinnie’s Beverage Depot. If you can’t find it at Vinny’s, it’s probably not worth drinking. It’ll go Bush H and Kelly PCA Horner and Baysteros Swanson. Castro the starting right with Suzuki under the weather. And Matt Shaw will hit ninth and play third base. And that group will go up against Shane Bos. And Ba a hard throwing right-hander. He was the 12th overall pick of the Pirates back in 2017. Traded to the Rays in the Tyler Glasnau deal couple of years back. You see the splits. He has had his struggles at home, but good on the road and got a curveball that generates a lot of swings and misses. Two-1 to Bush on the ground right side. That’s collected by Palasios. That is in there. No argument from half to away. Dials it up to 98 here. Little two seam that runs to the inside part of the plate. Line drive. Base hit out towards left center field. Kelly takes the turn, but Simpson corrals it and fires it back in. A long single for Carson. And with two outs, it’ll bring up Pete Crow Armstrong. Anything now. Change up swing and a miss. PCA is gone and so are the Cubs. End of one. It’s three nothing. Line drive. Base hit out into left center field. And Nicoer stays red hot. Little roller first base side. Bos gets it over to Diaz and it effectively works like a sacrifice bunt. So it’ll go three. Her to second. chopped up the middle and off the glove of Williams out into center. Here comes Nico Dans to second and he’s in. It’s an RBI double and it’s a 3-1 game as the Cubs get on the board. Williams the shortstop had a shot at it but off the glove into shallow center field. It’s a two base hit for Dansby Swanson. This double brought to you by Elgen Hyundai, home of the 20-year and 200,000 mi warranty on every new car. Good hustle, good base running by Dansby. Get himself into scoring position. Defender. He’s on the IIL right now. Castro will take his base, but pitch to Michael Bush. Line drive. Base hit right center field. Dansby’s around third. He’s going to come in to score. Castro will stop at third. Michael Bush RBI single and the Cubs within one. If you’re wondering, the Cubs have overcome a deficit of it of at least three runs six times this year. Down three early in this one and now it’s 3-2. I’m a little bit surprised that number is not bigger to tell you the truth. Yeah, we are moving right there. Line drive right center field. That’ll get down. In comes Willie. The Cubs have tied it. Bush to third. RBI single. Ian Hap. It is 33. A redemption. Sweet redemption for Ian H. The strikeout victim got caught looking at a 98 mph fast ball last time. This time he wins the battle and we start a new for pretzel. He swings at this pitch. 3-2. Did he go? Yes, he did. Struck him out. JD wins half a pretzel. It was close. It was a check swing but a swing nonetheless. And the first strike out of the afternoon for Matthew Boyd comes on a slider that he buries in under the hands of Morell. And doing it look with an organization that is very shrewd in the Cleveland Guardians. Center field Pete Crow Armstrong and Boyd able to get him. One, two, three. He is set down eight in a row. Pause. And that is in there. And no argument from PCA who’s down on strikes for the second time. I think they’re going in. Boo. Drive. Base hit right field. Horner sprinting around second. Nico to third. Quick’s going to send him. Nico to the plate. He’s going to score by Steros into third. The Cubs lead. We talk about Bast having that hit tool. They were trying to crowd him maybe with a cutter. 108 mph all the way into the right field corner. Pass that ball by Diaz. He had no shot at first. Here comes Nico running like Forest Gump like he does noises inside. That’s the second time. Yeah, he’s had a a number of those fast balls get away from him. And Craig Council asking now what what do you call it? Is it foul ball or hit by pitch? Craig wants to make sure and they’re going to they’re going to challenge it here. Ryan Blakeley helping out Marvin Hudson. I think Dansby feels like it was a foul ball. The way he reacted talking to Craig. I don’t know though. Look like got his wrist, didn’t it? Yeah, it does. Have to review the call on the field overturn. It was a hit by P. She’s not feeling great. Ball four. They’re loaded. And here we go. Matt Shaw with the bases loaded and one out. He’s got nine wins out of the bullpen. On the ground. That’s the short to second for one. Return to first. Not in time. Run. Scores and it is 53. Line drive and a base hit into left field. the pitch. That one down and in and it missed and now two aboard. Nobody out. 8 n to up behind him. Fly ball center field. Pete Crow Armstrong pulls it down. Oh jeez. They talk about it. They have meetings. They look at video, they discuss it. But what do you think happens there that just I think you’re you’re his move is so good even with all that information. He just gives every indication that he’s going home. Here’s a timing play. This is obviously a little bit different with Michael Bush playing well well behind him and off the bag. A timing play that they execute to two line drive out towards center field. That’s going to fall for a hit. And racing around and coming in to score is Mangum. It’s an RBI single for Forez. Walks featuring in both of these runscoring innings for the Rays. It was the walk to Diaz ahead of the Morell home run and then the walk to Pereira. Just a little backspin carvature out there to shallow right center. He set up half drills one right field. That’s back. That’s towards the corner. Gone. Ian H will touch them all. Number 21. And the Cubs get the run back. It is 64. And Ian H stays hot. Race put a three spot on the board in the top of the first. Cub answered with three of their own in the bottom of the second. Now they respond to the singleton that the race put up in the top of the inning with a three and a half home run. This one of those days at the ballard. Home run replay is brought to you by Toyota, the official vehicle of the Chicago Cubs. Beat him inside and Ian half cuts it off. Five ball right field. Castro just like some type of library situation back there. Corner out of the outfield. Morasse collects throws out Diaz. Two away. Tapper back to the mound. Boyd has it. 1 2 three go the Rays. A seven pitch inning. We’ll go to the last of the fifth. The Cubs have the lead. Company that the musician Jack White and Ian Kinsler co-one. Mangum down on strikes. Cor doesn’t care about stick or batting gloves or bats. Gets the punch shot. Groundbreaking slide ball gets the job done. Here comes a one-two jacks gets Bush and there’s one down. Really hot about it. Need a postgame meeting with Roco Baldelli. That’s to left field and over the head of the left fielder Chandler Simpson. Half into second and he’s got a double. just missed getting out. Oh man, sure did. And it’s a single home run double now for Ian H. And we focus on the double. It’s brought to you by Elgen Hyundai with a 20 year and 200,000 mi warranty on every new car. Not easy to play the corner outfield in this ballpark. Simpson finding that out here today as he tracks this one to the wall. Has a kick back away from him. It was going to be two bases either way. Out man at second. Re two is in there and Kelly is gone. Oh no, Marlin. Oh no. I mean, he missed one earlier the other way that they beat got the benefit of the doubt on, but that was terrible. Oh boy. For Palm for comeback player of the year. Swag and a miss and a strike out. Yeah, it was my guy Chris Singleton. Yeah, Singy was there and um I mean it’d be hard to find a more deserving candidate for that award. A guy who had not pitched in the big league since 2021 putting up the numbers he’s putting up this year. People out and the ball’s on the ground. So, it’s almost never leaving the park. It’s almost never in the air for Slug. There’s a strike out. Diaz is gone. Yeah. Well, case in point today. Ground ball, second base, punch out. Eight up, eight down for the Cubs bullpen here this afternoon. That is in there. Got him. Brad Keller continues to dominate. Get Camona to bite to third and Shaw handles. One up, one down. Little dribbler out front of the plate. Carson Kelly grabs it, throws out Mangum. And quickly there are two outs. 0 and two on low. Kridge ready and fires. Got ball game. Cubs win. Kridge closes it out. And the Cubs come back from an early three nothing deficit and pick up the W. Sing the song. What you say? No heat. Heat. Heat.

  1. Oh wow I get to be the first to comment…this has never happened…these restrictions the Cubs have with the city council HAVE to be amended…they are ridiculous…just a few…the Cubs get only 35 night games a season…the league average is 54…they can never play a Friday or Saturday night game at Wrigley unless it's a playoff game…if Wrigley Field hosts more than 6 concerts a year they must take away one home night game for each one…last year they had ten so the Cubs only got 31 home games… revenue is higher for night games by far…so Metallica can play a Friday night concert but the Cubs can't play the Cardinals… WTF..
    but go Cubs!

  2. This new backend bullpen configuration is virtually unhittable. I hate to say this because I like the kid, but Palencia's injury might be the best thing to happen to the Cubs as they sprint to the wire. He had been shaky since August 1. He gave up almost twice as many earned runs (11) in August and early September as he did in April-July combined (6).

  3. Good news though for the Cubs today…the Cubs are scheduled to host the 2027 all star game at Wrigley Field for the first time since 1990…due to labor strife it is almost guaranteed there will be no all star game in 2027 if any season at all…MLB said if the game is wiped out ( and it will be)…the Cubs get it in 2029…so there is that but of news😁

  4. Only the cubs can make their ex players who are terrible look like they are good, every true cubs fan knew Morel would Homer at least once in this series lol
