Can Toews help Jets reach next level?

Marty Biron joins us now. And Marty, let’s go through Jonathan Tav’s resume here for a second. He has over a thousand games played, three Stanley Cups, a Cons, a Selki, and a Mark Messier leadership award. So, do you think he brings the missing component the Jets need to reach the next level? Well, obviously when you look at the Jets, they’ve only got two playoff wins in the last seven years, right? So, what do you need? You need a winning attitude and the experience of knowing what to do in those type of situations. The Jets are a great regular season team, but the playoffs have been a different story. You look at Connor Hellbuck, will he be able to sit down next to Jonath on the road at dinner and pick his brains a little bit about how he adjusts to certain situation? How he rolls with some of the hits that maybe you’re taking because you don’t have a good game. How do you recover from that? Mark Shley the same thing. Kyle Connor the same thing. Josh Morris see the same thing. So that winning element, that experience of having to be able to overcome some obstacles when it matters the most. I know last year they came back in a game seven that was great, but it stopped there. I think that Jonathan Tace is going to bring that winning element to the Winnipeg Jets, and that’s something that they definitely need to be able to win a Stanley Cup. the more you can surround yourself with those type of players, albeit they have to perform on the ice, but I think the better a team it makes, especially for your top guys. Yeah. And Taves, he hasn’t played in more than two years. His last game was April 13th, 2023. Marty, how do you think that long layoff is going to affect him on the ice? Well, I think the speed, the execution, the legs, right? Where is Jonathan Ta going to be bodywise to be able to keep up with the speed of the NHL? Now, even three, four years ago, we’ve seen that the NHL has gone so much faster in that shorter time frame. So, it’ll be interesting. Jonathan Ta is a smart hockey player, right? But he was never the fastest on the ice. He had to rely on his hockey sense on knowing what was going to happen. It’s like a game of chess, knowing the moves before they happen. So for me, if I look at Jonathan Tace, I think that he would be a great depth addition to any team and the Jets were able to get him. But if you look at the projected lineup and playing in the top six, that may be too much for Jonathan T. So again, I’m going to say he brings in a winning attitude, leadership, experience. He’s going to bring some hockey sense, hockey IQ, maybe power play, penalty kill experience, and that. But five on five, I think, is going to be an adjustment. So the first month, month and a half may be hard for Jonathan Tae, but hopefully he gets his leg, gets his speed and execution after that and relies on his hockey sense and hockey IQ to be able to overcome the missing piece that may be speed early in the season. Well, and clearly he just really does bring so much value. Tav’s former teammate Patrick Kane spoke about his return saying, “It’s awesome. It could be a really great story for the NHL.

With over 1,000 games played, three Stanley Cups, a Conn Smythe, and a Selke does Jonathan Toews bring a missing component the jets need to reach the next level? How will his long lay off will affect him on the ice? TSN’s Marty Biron joins Domino’s That’s Hockey with more.
