Rockies vs. Padres Game Highlights (9/12/25) | MLB Highlights

The Padres’s right now 8-2 overall against them, but here at home 4-0. The Padres’s have shut out the Rockies in all four contests. They’ve struck them out 46 times straight over match. And when you see a team struggling like this at this point in the year and the Padres’s know they’ve got some ground to make up. You have got to execute. JP Sears on the mound tonight for San Diego. 501 RA opponents hitting 265. As I said, Padres’s could use some length here from their starter and strike three in the bottom of the zone with that for Seamer. Out number one comes via the K. Don’t necessarily think he got the spot he was looking for, but nonetheless gets the punchy on the fast ball down and away. Thought he had a walked. Had to think otherwise. Now to drop in for strike three. The sweeper gets him that time. A one, two, three. Top of the first for JP Sears with a couple of KS. Padres’s coming up against Tanner Gordon. score. So the last time Tanner pitched in this ballpark, it was a year ago and he retired the first 12 hitters he faced. Took perfect game into the fifth inning. Does there he drops in a dandy actually looking at it that was just good run with movement with a fast ball. He dotted the eye on the outside corner at the knees. Tatis didn’t like that call but it’s right there in the border. This is a diving stop by Cara. Scrambles to his feet. He’ll get a rise by a step. Beautiful play. Good play by Kyle Caros going to his left. He just looked so comfortable doing that. Didn’t rush the throw. He had plenty of time and threw a strike to first. So two down here in the first inning for Manny Machado. He hit a first inning home run off Gordon. The last game they saw each other and it’s a high drive to deep left field. Manny Machado has left the building. Home run number 24 of the year. He got Gordon in Denver. He gets him in San Diego. Padres’s lead one- nothing. Same pitch, same result. He got Gordon on the slider in Colorado. He gets Gordon on the slider here tonight. And there is nothing better than early work producing some fruit. Padres’s go ahead one- nothing. JP Sears in that really good start he made here against the Giants. Got a lot of early run support. We’ll see if the Padres’s are able to back him up that way again. And that’ll drop in there for strike three. Bren Doyle is the third strike out for JP Sears. JP Sears bringing that sweeper back to the outside corner against all these right-handed hitters. And they are all right-handed hitters tonight. Swinging a foul tip of the catcher for strike three. And another one, two, three inning for JP Sears. Four strikeouts. So first base runner of the night for the Rockies. A four pitch walk to begin the third inning. Left-handed hitters this season against Sears. 298 average. right-handed hitters 258 average. Swing and a miss and Carol strikes out. Fifth strike out for JP Sears. First down here in the third inning. Oh, high cheese for JP gets above the zone underneath the hands and Carol can’t catch up. It goes down for round number one. Swinging a miss and he struck him out. Back to back. Six and all now for Sears. Used the sweeper in the first inning to punch out the righties. Now just using straight gas. Fast ball up underneath the hands. Back-to- back punches for JP Seir. Swinging a miss. He struck him out. Second time he’s done that tonight. 39 scoreless innings of Petco Park. Seven strikeouts in three shutout innings. One- nothing lead for the Padres’s. Number eight hitter Jake Cronin North leads off this inning and a good fast. Tanner Gordon dialed up 95. Beat Cron. That is four strikeouts for Gordon tonight. A little extra life on that fast ball. You know, all the strikeouts have been on the fast ball and this has been the hardest one tonight and that 95. Nice. That was terrific. Gordon has struck out five of the first 10 he’s faced. Machado hit a homer. That’s the only damage done. The Rockies on the other side trying to figure out JP Sears. Beautiful change up. A little something cooking now for the Rockies in the fourth. Rockies threatening to score at Petco for the first time this year. No runs in four games. Boy, Raone was on roller skates out there for a moment in left field. And so Beck is aboard and now two on. Rocky’s trying to break the ice and score in San Diego for the first time since last September. So Sears under some duress here for the first time tonight. Rockies yesterday 0 for five with runners in scoring position. Swinging a miss and he struck him out. Eighth strike out. His career high is 11 for Sears. Big one right there with two in scoring position. AR just kind of late on the slider. So Blaine Crim who is 0 for 12 is a big leager. He struck out first time up and this ball hammered deep left field. Take a good look. You won’t see it for long. Blaine Cribs first major league hit. A threerun bomb. And now he’s got one he’ll never forget. High and deep and out of hair. touch him all time for the first time as a big leager. Blaine Crim breaks the scoreless string at Petco for the Rockies. They lead it three to one. And JP Sears knows that soon as the swing is completed, this ball is not coming back. This ball’s well hit and this one is going to sail out. Back to back. Kyle Farmer with his eight. Boy, did this club need this inning more than any club in baseball. Well, that escalated quickly. Touch him old time for Kyle Farmer. Those were two blasts. It’s the in the armor of JP Sears. His 29th homer allowed this season. 41 Rockies. So, the Rockies were hitless when they arrived in the top of the fourth inning. Four runs, four hits. And now Tanner Gordon, who’s throwing the ball really well, has a three-run cushion, swung on a miss. Gordon has six punch outs. 95 on the inside edge at the knees. It looks like the Tanner Gordon previous to last start when he had that four start stretch where he was really, really good at racking up strikeouts, but he just got another one. A change up that strikes out Gavin Sheets. That is strikeout number seven in four innings against a team that does not punch out typically. Back out on the hill for the Padres’s here in the sixth inning. Now two outs and nobody on for Blaine Crim on the ground at third. Machado lays it out from one knee, slings it across, gets Bla Crim. Nice play by Machado. Manny Machado doing Manny Machado things over at the hot corner. And a one, two, three, six for Ron Marinacio. The tener Gordon rolling. The Rockies up four to one. Eight strikeouts for Gordon. The only hit he’s given up was a Machado home run in the first. Craig three inside corner at 96. 16 in a row now. Put down by Tanner Gordon. Gordon is beyond rolling. This is one of the great pitching performances we’ve seen in a while. Runners are at first and second right now for San Diego. Wagner is going to be coming up here to face a new pitcher, Jimmy Herget. Forgot looking for a double play ground ball. Double play goal. There’s one across the body. Jump throw by Aria to get Wagner at first. Orlando Aria big time turn to get two. On the play, O’Harn goes to third, but now two outs in the inning. Here’s Fernando Tatis Jr. Fernando glad to see Tanner Gordon gone. He struck out three times against him. Swung on and missed. Jimmy Herget, what a job. First and second, no one out. He gets a double play and he punches Tatis and he keeps the Rockies plus three on the scoreboard. And now Victor Vodnik looking for his eighth save. He worked last night. It had been a while. It had been since September 5th. So he he goes about 6 days until he made the appearance last night. And here we go in the bottom of the ninth inning. For the third straight inning, San Diego has the tying run coming to the plate. So, the tying run is at the plate and the Padres’s have two guys in scoring position for Raone Moriano looking for his first hit of the night. On the ground right side, RC slides to his left, fires to first. Run will score as Machado comes in from third to make it four to two. But a big out, it’s out number two. So for Vodnik, his first run allowed since August the 6th. The iron is bro four. Down to first base goes Merl. Padres’s down four to two now. Are down to their final out. And now Ryan O’Harn will come to bat representing the potential winning run. He’s got him. He would change up and Victor Vodnik punches out O’Harn and the Rockies get to shake hands in San Diego. Another frustrating night for the Padres’s. They finished the game 0 for seven with runners in scoring position.

  1. The Padres lost by way of a home run by a hitter batting .067– his first hit of the season, if I have it right.

And the Padres couldn't muster more than two hits and one run scored off a pitcher whose ERA is over 6.0.

    That is pathetic.

And this is really not the way to go out of the regular season, heading into a Wild Card game– if they even hold off the Giants, that is.
