🔴LIVE 🔴 Pittsburgh Pirates VS Washington Nationals /September 12/MLB THE SHOW 25
time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Nationals. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. First pitch moments away. Towing the slab in today’s game. McKenzie Gore. What should we keep an eye on here? Well, it hasn’t been a great year so far in terms of erra, but he’s had some decent games and there have been some flashes of greatness, if you will. We’ll see today if he’s able to get ahead of hitters and perhaps get some swings and misses, put himself in a position to bring that erra down because, you know, in the back of his mind beyond the W, he wants to have a better earned run average. Jared Triolo, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. [Music] line drive and a base hit right there. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. I could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. Here’s Tommy Fam. Step off. Throw to first and he’s back in easily. In for a strike. It’s 0 and one. ground ball left side goes to second for one. How about that double play? They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big lingers. They make tough plays look simple. Brian Reynolds here. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. Two out. Space is empty. Way outside. And that is ball one. Let’s go. Let’s go Nets. And there’s a ball. hit in the air right field and that one way back there and that is way gone. His 16th homer of the year and the Pirates take the lead. It’s one- nothing. That’s a fun way to take the lead. Just hit one out of the park. That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Nick Gonzalez. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Hit hard on the ground to short. Jump throw and very nicely done for the out. Cannonball coming. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in Nationals Park getting the nod in this one. Johan Oedo. And this will be a tough test for him. Pitching on the road has not been that kind to his numbers. Well, I think he’s just got to trick himself mentally and put himself in a comfort level like he does at home. I know it’s not the same being on the road as away from home in terms of being able to have a routine and be consistent with it, but this game is so much mental and he’s going to have to find a way to play a mind game with himself to move through this ball game and get a W. That misses and it’s one and one. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. McCutchen should have this one. Pulls it in and there’s one away. kidding me? Here’s Dave Martinez line up for the Nationals and one of the most exciting young stars in the sport, CJ Abrams. And Boo, we’re talking about a guy who has great wheels and then puts him to good use. He’s the team leader in stolen bases and runs scored. Man, using his speed to just get into scoring position and then just flying home when the guys behind him put the ball in play. I absolutely love watching him do it because he causes havoc on the base paths. Dylan Cruz in the box with one away as he takes ball one. [Music] Swinging a foul straight back. The one-1 is fouled off. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. That’s the second out. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. And now the catcher comes up to him. Riley Adams. Let’s go. That one ripped. McCutchen going back on this one and it bangs off the out of town scoreboard and that’s a double. He was all over that one. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean, those are the ones you dream about. Ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game. Right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity. Right on top of it. So, runner at second, two down. Next, a hit for the Nats. Dalen Lyle. Seems like he’s making contact with everything lately. Batting average this month over 400. Well, here’s a chance right here for one of the better hitters on this roster to get him on the board in the first thanks to the three-hole hitter extending the inning. Good at bat with two outs. [Music] Fast ball in for a strike. 0 and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Two outs and one in scoring position. That one almost got him. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone because that’s where you get hurt. Straighten him up a little bit. [Music] Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his bat down just enough to make contact with that pitch, keep the bat alive. Swing and a fly ball well struck left field. Makes the grab and that will end the inning. Nationals leave one and it remains one- nothing. And we’re back. All set for the start of the inning. Here’s Andrew McCutchen to hit. Gore back to work in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. [Music] That one ripped right center field and it one hops the wall. Now he’ll turn it for second and he’s there with a leadoff double. Well, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. When you connect and it jumps off your bat like that, you’re thinking double at the very least. Put a great swing on it and man, he wasn’t fooled at all. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Here’s Joey Bart now. Hammers that one deep left field and forget it. A two-run shot. It’s three nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck circle. So when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. Nick York, the next pirate to hit. And that one upstairs, ball one. Can be tough to bounce back after a big home run, but nobody on, nobody out. You just have to treat it as a fresh inning. Nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame here in the top of the second. And strike two. [Music] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. I love to see guys compete and I know he’s frustrated that he wasn’t able to do anything with that pitch. You see it so well, but you have to respect the upper 90s velocity. Man, it is hard to catch up to. Alexander Canario in the box now as he leaves that one up high. Still only one out here in the inning. One down. Base is empty. That one fouled off. outside. Here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Young makes the grab for the second half. Batting ninth, short stop. Leo Pero. Two down, base is empty. Leo Pagarero the next pirate to hit. And misses inside. [Music] That one finds the zone and now it’s even one and one. [Music] Foul ball there. Had a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. Another look at this two-run homer for Pittsburgh. It’s now three nothing. Back in Washington DC. And now Andres Chaparo. Andre. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Gets it to first and a quick out number one. Batting six, third base, Brady House. Brady House digging in for the Nationals. Brady in there for strike one. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. Swings here and blasts one left field back there, leaping, and it’s gone. His fourth home run of the season. It’s 3-1. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Man, he just barely got that one out of here. And you’ve got to love the effort and left to try and bring it back. He had a good shot at it. Just couldn’t quite pull it off. It would have been a stunner if he did. Now it’s Paul De Young up to the plate. just off the outside edge and it’s one and0. [Applause] Daryl Parker assigned to umpiring duty behind home plate and Boog with DP. It’s sort of a coin flip on those borderline corner pitches. Doesn’t really favor one side of the plate more than the other. Sometimes you’ll get a little extra the plate and sometimes you won’t. It does seem like he evens it out over the course of a game though. Swings through that one out in front that time. Wow. No fair right there. I mean, that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just kind of have to tip your cap on that pitch. 3-2. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball, but missed the spot. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. One gone runner at first. Here’s a speed threat. Nasim Nunees. [Applause] That’s too low. And that’s ball one. Always tough to turn two on a speedster like this. It’s even harder with him coming out of the left-handed batters box. You really need something hit hard on the ground that they can handle to turn to quickly. Fast ball for a strike. One rolled to short. Could be two off balance feed. There’s one, but no throw to first as he’ll hold on to it. Good that they weren’t overzealous there. Just take the sure out. Keep the runner out of scoring position. Up now for Washington. Jacob Young singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career. Oedo with a move to first and he’s back in safely. And that’s a little bit high. Ball one. Now, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Swinging a ground ball up the middle to first and he beats it. Everyone’s safe. Boo. He doesn’t care how he does it. He just wants to get on base. And when he does, that puts him in a position to do some damage, put some pressure on the defense as well. His wheels are truly a weapon out there. Back to the top of the lineup. Here’s CJ Abrams to hit. Fly to right. His first time. That one not close. Okay, that’s ball one. Swings and lines one towards the gap. And now maybe extra bases. One runs in coming home. The relay throw. He scores and the Nationals tie it up. It’s three all. Gets the job done as he brings home a pair. I don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. Now a chance for Dylan Cruz. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. Just missed. As a pitcher, you know the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run, so you really have to execute on the mound. Let’s go next man at second. That misses the zone and it’s two and one. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. Late swing fouled. ball runner at second. Two down. Bottom half of inning number two. [Applause] Off the mark there and it’s a full count. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. [Applause] and ball four to a board. So here we go again with the walks. It’s been a real struggle finding the zone for him in the past. Now even if they get out of this jam, these walks add pressure and stress to the entire team. First and second, two outs. Adams getting ready to hit. Doubled his first time up. Pitch misses and that is ball one. Bullpen action for the Pirates. Paul Ste up and throwing. Chandler warming up as well. Two on, two outs. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. Tied up here in the early going. up the middle and that chance handled. Tosses to first and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over, but three score in the inning. Two of them on this two-run double. We’re tied now at three a piece. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now it’s going to be Jared Triolo after scoring runs. This is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. That’s off the mark and it’s one and0. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on playing with. You’re better off taking that pitch. Fly ball center field. Young hauls it in for the out. And there’s one down. Now batting leftielder. Now the left fielder Tommy Fam 0 for one so far. Fam measures 6’2 in. 37 years young. He joined the team as a free agent. And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. And that’s ball one. Get out of here, Pirates. In the air, right field. Cruz makes his way towards it. Got it. Really had to move for that catch. And there are two outs. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Let’s go. Reynolds now in the box. Comes up empty with a swing there. Just a bit tardy there. Not sure if he had a hard time picking it up out of the hand or if he was sitting off speed. Lined and that’s a base hit. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive right there. He does a great job of staying in the big part of the field. Man, there are a lot of hits there. And stepping in is the speedy Nick Gonzalez. Grounded out his first time. Clips the corner. Go and one. Activity in the Washington bullpen. Jackson Rutled getting loose out there. Beater getting loose as well. Reynolds off of first with two away. Next offering is outside [Music] just off the inside edge. He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day. He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here. [Music] So now two on and two outs. Oh, that could be a big walk in this ball game. Moves the go-ahead run into scoring position. So some pressure pitches coming up in this next AB. First and second, two outs. Digging in. Andrew McCutchen to third and that’s a fair ball around third. He scores and they have the lead. Here comes Gonzalez in there. He’s safe. It’s 53. Well, he was a little off balance. He got the front foot down but was so great at keeping the hands back and allowed him still to get good wood to this baseball. Big one there as he drives in a couple of runs. manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the nationals pen. McKenzie Gore departs and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching now on the mound for the Nationals, Jake Irvin. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. tries to force weak contact. So, command and execution are huge for him. This is Joey Bart. He’s already homered in this game. Sliced hard but fouled. [Music] swing and that ball smashed on a line. Dives and makes the catch. Great diving catch to end the inning. That’ll fire up the dugout for sure. Time to go swing it. Bottom of the inning and now up for Washington, Dalen Lyle. He’s someone that you might not describe as having elite level speed, but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game. Inside just missed. Boo. This guy’s definitely a plus runner, but what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time. Never takes a break. It’s guys like that, even though they don’t have the elite speed, the fact that they’re consistent with it, they make moves on the base paths. Swing and a ball lifted left field. Coming on is Fam to make the play. Now batting first base Andre Chaparo. Next to hit for the Nats, Andres Chaparo grounded out his first time. swing and a miss. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot [Applause] out in front and foul to the left side. One out. Base is empty. [Music] up the middle. Aggerro. Now the throw to first on the run. It’s there and that’s a great play. Now batting third baseman Brady House. Now the third baseman Brady House. He’s already homerred here in this one. And first offering is fouled off now. One miss. Just missed. That one fouled off. Two and two. That one is upstairs. Paul De Young up next for Washington. Two down, nobody on. And that one is lifted in the air. Canario sizes this one up and that is the third out of the inning back here in Nationals Park. And now the first baseman, Nick York. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. You know, these Pirates doing a good job of simply getting the bat on the ball in this game. And the numbers back that up. And here’s a stat for you, Boo. They’re making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they’re swinging at. It’s pretty special stuff. Not so good if you’re out there on the mound. And a foul ball makes the count two and one and that’s in the dirt. Fouls one away and now three and two. got him looking and there’s one down. Well, he hadn’t seen that change up the entire at bat until that putaway pitch and it’s pretty tough to deal with as a hitter. You’re up there battling, trying to read and react with two strikes and then all of a sudden the pitch comes out of nowhere and it’s a good change up. It’s just almost impossible to hit it when you haven’t seen it. Now it’s Alexander Canario fly to center his first time. off the plate inside. One and0. Bases empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. Headed towards the corner and that’s a foul ball. Next offering is in for a strike. A one-two cow and all he’s seen is fast balls. You’ve got to expect something off speed. Stay back. That misses the zone and the count is two and two and he grounds one to the right side. He takes it on his own. Two quick outs here in the top of the fourth. Shortstop Lever Pagarero. Two outs. Space is empty. And the batter will be the shortstop. Leover Pagarero struck out swinging his first time. And that one fouled off. [Music] misses off the play and it’s a ball and a strike and a swing and a miss. Oh, that’s that slurf right there. He threw it extremely well. Talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to. Swings through it and that’s a strikeout. Nothing doing here for Pittsburgh and it remains 53. Welcome back and they turn to a new arm as we kick off the bottom of the fourth. Dowry Moretta still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. leading. So digging in Paul D Young the short stop Paul Young. That’s in there. And that is strike one. And one short stop takes a ball. way out front for strike two. Clearly, it was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes. That one misses. Two and two. [Applause] Got him looking. That’s a strike out. I’m not saying it it wasn’t a strike or, you know, it was a ball, whatever. But just the location with that velocity, it’s hard enough even if the velocity is not great, but that velocity, that location, tip your cap. Here’s the second base, Nim Nunees. He’s 0 for one. And that’s off the inside edge. Ball one. Here we go DC. And a pitch fought off foul. There’s a one-1. Eddie Bunts, but that’s a foul ball. The Pirates leading by two. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. [Applause] Foul ball still a one and two count. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. very strong coming out of the pin so far as he punches out the first two batters he’s faced in this one. Getting straight to work. Man, it’s talked about a lot, but relievers are just so electric these days. He’s not fun at bats if you’re a hitter. I’m so glad I’m retired. So, up next, Jacob Young reached on an infield single his first time. That catches the outside corner. Strike one. two outs and he lays down a bunt. Bare hands it. Tough play and that’s a great play for the out. This is a beautiful play. The bare hand grab at third. Throws off balance to first base to end the inning. If you play third base, it’s got to be one of your favorite ones to watch. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Number 16 coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. So, back to the top of the order at the plate for Pittsburgh. Jared Triolo one for two. There’s the strike. You know, these Pirates do a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. One thing that really stands out is their chase rate. League average is around 30%, but they’re at less than 20% right now. That one way inside. Swinging a foul out of play. It’s been tough fooling these guys and those chase rate numbers back it up. They’ve been really smart at the plate and that’s one of the best ways to frustrate a pitcher because nothing seems to come easy. swing and a miss. Struck him out. So, next to the plate for Pittsburgh, Tommy Fan. He’s been a great free agent side. One, no strike. That’s a ball. And another ball outside and it’s ball four. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire bat. To the plate now for Pittsburgh is the DH Brian Reynolds. Come on. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. That fast ball, even though it’s up, that’s the velocity you want to go after. Low 90s a lot better than trying to hit the high 90s. Fam back to first safely. Fam stands at first with one out. Squirts away a little bit. One strike. Let’s go. That’s to third. The throw to second. Back to first. And it’s over his head. And this ball’s going to wind up out of play. Bill, no trouble getting the double play started, but clearly some trouble on that return throw to first. I’m not sure if the runner going into second had a part in that or if it was something like a bad transfer. Either way, could have been two outs, but instead they got to work around a runner and scoring position. Now Nick Gonzalez, the next Pirate to hit. Right down to shoot. It’s 0 and one. Runner at second. Two down. DC. Next offering upstairs. I got one ball, one strike and downstairs the 2-1. Just missed. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished a little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Ripped to short on to first out number three. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound, Colin Holder. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers, so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. They’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump. Back to the top of the order. Here’s CJ Abrams now taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point, that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. He had a foul ball. [Music] That one hammered but pulled. Foul. [Music] Hard hit left side. the throw to first and the leadoff hitter retired in the fifth. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff just like we saw. So digging in Dylan Cruz. He is struck out and he is walked. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Music] One down, base is empty. Gets the strike. That was the sweeper. [Music] Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. That one misses. Now one and two. [Applause] Gets under it and pops it up. Agarero moving under this one. Makes the catch and there’s two away. Now batting catcher Riley Adams. Here’s the catcher Riley Adams. That’s a strike attacked with the sweeper. [Music] Swung on. Belted that one. Carrying gone. his ninth homer of the year. It’s 54. That’s a great way to fire up this crowd. They’re feeling it now. [Applause] A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. So, two down. Dalon Lyle now at the plate. And that misses. And that’s ball one. Looking to get the tying run on base. And a foul ball. trying to keep good speed off the bases. Swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field and that puts the tying run on base. Just kept it simple. Played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there’s just no one there to knock it down. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. Andre Chaparo digging in for the Nationals. Has grounded out a couple of times. Right through there for a strike. Well, with the tying run at first base, he’s looking for something he can get a lot of barrel on. Drive into a gap and score that run from first base. Swing and a miss. And it’s on two. Big situation right here. You got some speed over there at first base. He represents the tying run on. Question is, do you send him and get him in the scoring position or do you let Oh, this one high and deep way back there and off the base of the wall headed for the plate. He’ll score easily. Go ahead run into scoring position as he stops at second. Well done. Drives in the run. A lot of times in today’s game, right fielders are able to get to a ball that stays in like that, but he hit that one pretty well. And if he hits it just a little bit different on the barrel, it’s out of here easily. But there’s nothing wrong with the extra bases right there. A lot riding on this next at bat now as they look to take the lead at a critical point in this one. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Colin Holderman won’t go any further and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Paul Ste gets the call from the pen. Definitely a guy that pounds the strike zone, makes hitters earn their way on base, and rarely gets in trouble because of free passes. Making a move at second base. And here’s the pinch runner. Robert Hassel to third. Robert. Here’s the third baseman, Brady House. The third on the ground right side and foul ball. [Applause] And a ground ball to first. He steps on the bag. Inning over on the ground out. Took just two pitches to finish the frame out of the bullpen. They get two and draw even again. We’re through five. We’re all tied up 55. Back in Washington DC. Start of the six. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And leading off, Andrew McCutchen. All right, Washington. And ball one. The Nationals have some action going in the pen. Jose a Ferrer looks to be getting ready for Dave Martinez. Parker also throwing. Next offering is down low and now two and0. Really been able to slow down the game tonight with his at bats and the biggest one he’s had so far. He doesn’t look anxious at all. And that is out of play. [Music] Got him looking. And that’s one out as they get the leadoff hitter in the six. Well, big strike out right there. And maybe a little controversial with the call. I think he got a little bit of favor on the mound. No question about it. It’s not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that. And I’m sure there’s some chirping going on from the dugout making it clear that wasn’t his best call behind the plate today. And here’s the catcher, Joey Bart. And remember, he was absolutely robbed of a base hit last time up. Now a high-fly ball out to left center. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes, they make the play perfectly. York in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. One ball, one break. Swing and a drive. This one is crushed. No doubt about it. And here in the late stages, they have the lead. That’s one way to quiet the crowd. His first homer of the year. It’s 65. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. When you’re working with this kind of velocity, so critical that you move the ball around, work quickly, and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance. Clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity. He was all over that fast ball. Two outs, nobody on. And now Alexander Canario Bowl for two in this one. First offering misses badly for ball one. back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher’s afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So, I think the confidence level is raised right here. Laser could be trouble. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s in there standing up with a two out double. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Up next for the Pirates, Leo Pagarro, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Check swing on the first pitch. Appeal down to first. And that’s a swing according to umpire Matthew Ross. That one fouled off. [Music] Strike him out. Man on second. Two down. Foul ball still 0 and two. [Music] line drive. He’s got it. And that’ll end the inning. Cannonball coming. It’s tightened up a bit at 65 now. You’re dialed into the show. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Up now for Washington. Paul De Young swing and a miss. That’s strike one. Movement in the bullpen. Bubba Chandler loosening up in case he’s called upon by Derek Shelton. [Music] Next offering is in for a strike. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. The shorts stop takes a ball. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes and one gone. Boo.
