We’ve got live coverage of Orioles baseball today where the Baltimore Orioles will be taking on the Toronto Blue Jays in the second game of a three-game series here at Rogers Center and Toronto, Ontario, Canada, North America, Western Hemisphere, Earth, uh solar system, Milky Way, Galaxy, uh that specific enough? Uh, welcome in folks. We’ve got a new game. Uh, good. Last night kind of stunk. Trevor Rogers wasn’t himself. Uh, he issued a lot of hits and walks compared to what we’ve been used to. Obviously, we’re spoiled. Uh, to expect Trevor Rogers to continue to pitch as he has been up until yesterday, uh, would be asking a lot. But the problem was he was still effective enough to only give up uh one unearned run in five innings of work. And unfortunately u the offense wasn’t there for him. Uh the bullpen didn’t really help uh keep it close late. And uh our defense also let us down with uh a couple of key errors mixed in. It was uh it was not a fun game to watch yesterday, folks. not going to sugarcoat it for you, but I’m still feeling pretty good about recent history and I think the rest of the Orio fans who have been watching should feel the same. I mean I mean we can only talk about it for so long. You know, if we get beat again badly today, then the honeymoon period is over. regarding uh the home stand we just played and and the fact that we had won eight out of nine games before yesterday. We’re still eight and two in our last 10 games. I mean, that’s not too bad. We hit a we hit a snag yesterday. And uh look, I’ve had to say this now as almost like a what do you call it? What do you call it? A uh when you put something ahead of a disclaimer. Yeah, I guess I got to give a disclaimer at the start of every game that yeah, we get it. We’re not going to the playoffs. We’re just trying to get out of last place and until we have a losing, you know, until we get our 82nd loss and then we’re trying to not have a losing season. And that is still possible. It would take quite the uh quite the rundown here with what 14 games to go. Folks, there’s two weeks left in the season after tomorrow. Uh, it’s going to be gone here really soon. A little bit sad. I mean, we kind of want to, if you feel like me anyway, I don’t want to speak on everybody’s behalf, but I kind of feel like I got my finger on the pulse of Orio fans. I think we’re all kind of just wanting to skip ahead to spring training 2026 and give this another crack after uh what’s happened this season. But uh you know there have been a lot of positives here in the second half to point to uh it doesn’t make up for the season as as a whole. Uh a lot of mistakes were made to put us in a in a big hole early and uh kind of uh ruin our chances of a really good season. But what are you going to do folks? What can you do? Um, you just got to hope that the right players and and and staff uh stick around and be a part of the plans next season and uh whatever kind of was responsible for uh this disappointing season. Hopefully the right people involved with that uh are are removed from the equation. Uh, but anyway, look, it’s uh 2:00 a.m. about 2:00 a.m. over here my time. I’ve got some coffee. I’ve got about half a meal to eat here. Everything I eat is Oh, there goes the spoon. But I’ve got a nice healthy meal here. It’s got plenty of vegetables and stuff in it, but it’s getting cold. So, I got to I got to chow down here. Uh 5-second rule. And uh so let’s quickly go over these uh lineups and the pitching matchup. Get us uh set. First pitch is 7 minutes after the hour. So we got 10 minutes on the mound today. It’s a really good pitching matchup. If you like a couple of veterans, uh both of these pitchers are going to the Hall of Fame, just different Hall of Fames. Japan has theirs, we have ours. Tomyuki Sagano has already accomplished enough in Japan before coming over here uh to pretty much guarantee himself a spot in Japan’s Hall of Fame. He’ll be facing Max Scherzer who will most definitely be uh going to the hall here in the States. Uh Sagano with a record of 10 and 8, a 4.51 erra. He’s pitched 143 and two/3 innings on the season. He’s going to probably wind up finishing, what do we got? Three starts left, maybe. He’s going to finish right around that 160 inning mark. Uh it would seem. Uh Max Sher and you know, credit to Sagano for at least staying healthy. Uh Tom, you’ve said hi how many times? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10. Okay, Tom. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. We’ve got Sagano versus Sherzer on the mound, folks. Uh Sherzer’s 5 and3 4.36 RA. He’s only pitched 74 in the third innings on the season. That’s about as half as many as Sagano. Uh, and the last two starts he’s made, he’s been knocked around pretty good. He’s faced a couple pretty good teams, the Brewers and the Yankees, but he’s gone four innings and four and a third innings in those two starts while giving up uh something like eight or nine runs in those combined eight innings. So, he’s been uh touched up here in his last couple of starts. Hopefully, that’ll continue today. and the Oriole offense, which was pretty much absent last night, will uh pick things back up today. Let’s look at this lineup. Jackson Holiday will lead off and play second base. Dylan Beavers, folks, Dylan Beavers, I told you. What have I been telling you, man? Nice, Beaver. Thank you. What have I been telling Orio fans since uh the fourth game of this guy’s career? I want him hitting lead off. Well, guess what? He’s one spot away now. Beavers gets to hit second today. Right behind Holiday and right in front of Gunner. We’re going with three straight lefties at the top of the order. And I have no problem with it. Jeremiah Jackson getting the day off today. Beavers will be in right field hitting second. Gunnar Henderson is at shortstop hitting third. And Tyler O’Neal, the DH, he is the cleanup hitter getting his second start after coming back from his most recent injury. I can’t even remember what the last injury was. I I I don’t bother to remember. Sammy Basio moves up to hit fifth today doing the catching. Emanuel Rivera will play at third base and bat six. Uh, this might be the next to last or last start. I think Jordan Westber is probably going to be back here pretty soon. All right, I’m done with you, Tom. Really? 10 highs and then we’re going right into that. Okay, just Okay, bye, Tom. He’s doing it again, playing first base. No Ryan Mount Castle in the lineup today. For the Blue Jays, George Springer is going to DH and lead off. Nathan Lucas is in right field batting second. Vlatty Guerrero Jr. at first base hitting third. Addison Barger, the cleanup hitter in third baseman. Davis Schneider is in left field for this game. He’s batting fifth. Dalton Vara will hit sixth and play center field. Ernie Clement at second base, batting seventh. Tyler Heinaman is the catcher, hitting eighth. And Andre Jimenez will play shorts stop and bat ninth. Oh, yeah. Chase McDermott, folks. Chase McDermott, you might remember, made one or two spot starts for us earlier in the season. didn’t really look like he was major league ready to be a starter. The uh Orioles have been manicuring him into becoming a relief pitcher and uh he’s been putting up some pretty good numbers. In fact, he’s got an ERA of 1.76 in his last uh 15 games as a reliever out of the pin for the Norfolk Tides. He’s with the taxi squad up in Toronto here today. And uh that’s not the first time he’s done that. I don’t know why they don’t just uh bump, you know, the weakest link in the bullpen right now. I want to see what McDermott has got to offer as a reliever. We’ve got two weeks left in the season. Let’s let’s get him on this roster and let’s let’s get him into a ball game as a reliever. It bounces off the wall and far away. This looks like a triple. This looks like it’ll score a pair. It’s just a double for Gunner and only one run scores. My goodness, that ball bounced off the wall and bounced far away from the right fielder. I thought Beavers would score surely. I thought Gunner would be on third, but we’ll take it, folks. We have not recorded an out yet at the plate. It’s one- nothing Baltimore. An RBI double by Gunner Henderson. Oh, I can see why. I can see why. Holiday for whatever reason late to break on that. Like, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but we’re division opponents. We’ve been we’ve been uh rivals now since 1954. What do What do you want me to do? It seems like there’s more Yankee hate than other AL teams. Well, Jake, what do I’d say the Red Sox aren’t far behind. And then I’d say, you know, you got the Blue Jays. They’ve only been around since the 70s. The Rays, they’ve only been around since what, the late 90s. There’s just more history, more reason to hate. It’s pretty simple. It’s pretty simple formula. I think it applies to all teams in all leagues. Go out to the NL West. The Giants, the Giants and the Dodgers hate each other. Okay? Not as much as they hate the Rockies or the Diamondbacks. Picked up by Basio and he will nail Guerrero at first. An emphatic call by the first base umpo. Okay, the ump is checking him for sticky stuff because the inning is over. But more importantly, the trainer and interpreter have come out on the field to check on Sagano. He took that liner. I’m not sure exactly where it hit him, but he’s walking back to the dugout under his own power, albeit not looking 100%. and he’s nodding his head affirmatively, but he’s heading straight down the tunnel. Uh, we got to figure out what’s going on with Sagano. Kind of 113 off the bat and then off of Sagano. Wow. Okay. So, Sagano in his last start, he took a liner off the foot and that took him out of the game. And I’m sure that ball wasn’t hit 113. Can you imagine having a ball hit right back at you off the bat of Guerrero at 113? That might be enough for me to retire if I’m Sagano. I’m like, you know what? I am going to Japan’s Hall of Fame already. This season’s pretty much over. I don’t plan on pitching. That’s That’s it. I just survived something that if it hit me in a certain place might have killed me. I’m done. Hopefully Sagano’s okay. He He looked like he was nodding his head like everything was fine, but at the same time they went right down the tunnel. So, I don’t know if he’s going to come back out the pitch. We’re waiting on this game to come back to the broadcast. And uh if we start to see somebody getting up in the bullpen, then I guess we’ll know. Might be an early shower for Sagano. Switch hitter batting from the left side. looks at a strike fast ball from Sherzer. Carlson hitting .209 in 75 games with six homers and 20 RBI. Just get it all on there. Just spread it out. Mayo has played in 70 games on the season and he’s got seven home runs. That is a homer per every 10 games. So, extrapolate that over 162 games. That’s 16 home runs in a full season. That’s not going to cut it for Mayo. Uh we could probably assume uh you know coming up to the bigs it’s kind of hard to have a good average when you’re a power hitter like Mayo should be. But not only is he hitting just a buck 86, but yeah, not enough pop really to can’t really be uh you got to do more. Mayo’s got to level up next season. Here’s an 02 pitch. He takes low. One ball, two strikes. There is somebody up in the bullpen. And this is now really this could be a problem because the Orioles tomorrow are supposed to be going with a bullpin by committee approach. They don’t have an assigned regular starter. Fouled away by Mayo still one and two, but Albert Suarez thought to probably play a part in that bullpin committee approach tomorrow. He’s getting loose now because it looks like uh Sagano is not going to be coming back out. Just one inning of work from Sagano and then a bullpin game tomorrow. Chase McDermott is with the taxi squad and uh this Sagano situation looks like the perfect opportunity for McDermott to uh get activated and maybe play a part in tomorrow’s game with that bullpin approach we’re going to be taking for now. We hate to see him go, but uh apparently he was working his way back from a 60-day DL stint only to have a setback. I think he was on track to return to the team here. Thought we might have a chance to see him, but uh he had a setback. I was reading. Is Tony going to play uh before the season’s over? Give me an update on Tony. Help me out, Blue Jay fans, and then I’ll get out of here. While I wait for a reply, we’ll talk about tomorrow’s matchup. Okay. All right. So, this final game, a game in which now we are looking to avoid getting swept. Boy, we are in good shape to look for a rubber game tomorrow. But that was one of the uglier ninth innings uh we’ve had to watch in a while. Final game of the series. First pitch is at 1:37 p.m. tomorrow. The stream will start at 1:20 on the mound. Sometimes we make an announcement for something like this right after the previous game. Uh Colin Selby is beginning a rehab assignment. Okay. No announcement yet for who the Orioles will start with, but they are going with a bullpin by committee tomorrow. I would expect to see Albert Suarez pitch two, three innings, maybe even four. Couple of innings from Dietrich ends and then uh you know other guys throwing one inning for the final few innings there down the stretch. That’s probably how it’s going to play out. Uh, so not nearly as exciting as a matchup as Asherzer versus Sagano, but there’s always a reason to tune in, folks. Something something fun’s going to happen tomorrow. And we’re going to be here to enjoy it, right? Hopefully not end like today ended. Boy, that was bad. It just Oh god. Get the that bottom of the ninth today out of your mind, folks. find something fun to do with the rest of your day. Uh Andrew says, “Hey there, Jay’s fan, but huge Ravens fan, too. Enjoy your stream. I’m I’m kind of wishing I didn’t speak up when I did. Uh maybe it was just winning eight out of nine games and uh I’m just uh looking at things through rosecolored glasses here. But uh I have always been on the record that I even with, you know, some of these nice streaks we’ve been on the second half, uh I I don’t think Manelino is the long-term solution.
