NFL action will take center stage, but we’ve also got uh week four college football just on the horizon in the coming days. Between the Chicago Cubs and the Tampa Bay Rays for the Chicago Cubs, it’s Shota Imanaga listed as the starter in this one. While the Rays will counter with Adrien Hower and Imanaga coming off another quality start on the road last time out, six innings of three-run ball against the Atlanta Braves. This time it wasn’t enough as the Cubs couldn’t back up Imanaga in that start. Lost that game four to one. Now, the other concern for Imanaga is that he’s allowed a home run in six straight starts. Eight home runs total over that stretch. And you’re facing a Tampa Bay Rays lineup in the month of September so far against left-handed pitching has been hitting fairly solid, hitting 281. The team OPS numbers are above league average, but the isolated power numbers, you know, are a little bit, you know, concerning. Their bottom 10, which tells me it’s a lot of singles, a lot of stationtoation baseball, and the walk rate isn’t necessarily high. So, you know, they’re they’re putting the ball in play. Now, can they do that against Sha Imanaga? Not 100% sure because Imanaga’s been at his best at home this season. A 3.12 erra, a 189 opponent’s batting average, not necessarily a strikeout a strikeout artist, but I think that he couldn’t he can he can pitch well here. I mean, the problem for Imanaga has been the long ball. Like I said, 24 home runs given up this season. He’s actually given up more at Wrigley, but again, I think he pitches well in this game. and you know the Rays maybe take a step back against against lefties in this matchup. On the other side, you’ve got Adrien Howser going into this game and Hower for the most part has not been the acquisition that the Rays thought they were getting when they picked him up at the trade deadline. You know, in his last seven starts going back to the beginning of August. Hower a 4.93 ERA. He’s allowed at least three runs in five of the seven outings, four or more runs in four of those seven outings as well. And while the strikeout numbers have started to pick up in some of his recent starts, the the uh the Rays haven’t necessary been winning a ton of his games. And you know, for me, it’s just the fact that the Rays are just not in great form right now. They they got themselves, you know, what looked like they were going to be able to fight for a wild card spot and then all of a sudden over the last week have dropped six of their last seven, have just started to really fall off the map. You know, the Rays bullpen in the month of September, you know, has still been, you know, uh fairly respectable. Not necessarily the best though, a 4.13 erra. I do think the Cubs have the edge in the bullpen. I think they have a significant edge in starting pitching and I think that that edge is enough to carry the Cubs to the victory in this game. So, I’m going to roll with the Chicago Cubs in this one and that’s going to be my free pick.
