Yankees vs Red Sox | Postgame Recap & Fan Reactions | 9/14/25
All right, let’s hit the It is Sunday, September 14th, and the Yankees were finishing off the gauntlet. Game 12 of 12 and the final game against the Red Sox for the regular season. Will Warren was on the mound, and he was matching up against Garrett Crochet. Could the offense get it done? My recap, your reactions coming up next. This is pinstripe territory. [Applause] Well, not ideal. You know how we were saying that there are some games that you just want to flush and just forget about? This is one of those games. The gauntlet is over. All things considered, the Yankees played pretty well over this stretch of 12 games. They went seven and five. We’ll talk more about that in a few minutes. But tonight, obviously, um, you know, they were down 6 nothing early, but I thought that they fought well after that. Now, they did strike out 16 times, which very Yankee thing to do, but you know, we had some good performances. We had a nice catch by Slater. We had home runs by Rosario, Judge, and Cababayro. Judge is clearly heating back up. He was two for four tonight and had home run number 48 on the season. But all things considered, um, you have to consider this stretch of games a success even if we didn’t finish out strong. Uh, tough sports day says Deja and Tendu. Um, tough day for the football fans as well. Uh, let’s go ahead and get to the recap. I’m going to keep this one moderately quick tonight. Uh, it is Sunday night. It’s late. I like to get to bed early on Sunday. Let’s get it going. Branquin says that Cabayro has a major weakness at the plate. I mean, he’s a 230 hitter. He also hit a home run today, but he’s not in there for his bat. He’s in there to catch the ball and to maybe make a little bit more consistent contact than Vulpi and to steal bases. Uh, referee says poop day for NYC sports, Yankees, Giants, Jets, loose. Lose is the word you’re looking for. But, uh, and I don’t even know what the Mets did uh, today, but uh, let’s find out if they broke their losing streak. No, they won. and they beat the Rangers 5-2. So, congrats to them anyway. But, um, it was clear from the start that this was not going to be an easy game. Crochet was filthy in the first inning. Red Sox jumped out to that 6 nothing lead. They were all over Warren. Uh, you know, was hit after hit after hit like he was throwing batting practice. You know, there were some misplays too in this game. Stanton misplayed a ball off the monster. You know, the Yankees let a foul popup drop that, you know, should have been caught. uh obviously, but then like I said, they mounted a a brief comeback. You know, you had the two-run home run from Rosario in the fourth inning that made it 6-2. And then Judge went deep to make it 6-3. And you’re thinking at this point, they got a real shot. Home run number 48. He’s only made contact three times against Garrick Crochet, and two of them have been home runs. And then um you know, that that’s a silver lining tonight that he he’s he’s definitely coming around. you know, he’s hitting good pitching, too. Um, and then, um, Camilo Dval, I thought, threw the ball pretty well. That was a positive tonight. That’s the best he’s looked as a Yankee so far. Uh, and, um, you know, Cabayro cut the lead to 6-4 with a home run, but the Yankees lose this one. The Blue Jays win, so not ideal. Wildard still very much um, in play for the Yanks. Uh uh Andrew Dro says Yankees own or Jays own the Yanks. Well, the Yanks just took two out of three from the Jays. Not not not more than what a week ago at Yankee Stadium. So, let’s you know, it’s a different story when you get to the playoffs. We’ll see. We’ll see what happens. Uh let’s talk about the uh starting pitcher tonight, Will Warren, who had a tough night. Obviously, uh not a lot of positive things to say other than he hung in there for five innings. Anytime you allow double-digit hits in a game, you’re very, very hitable. His ERA shot up to 4.44. You know, for the most part, he’s been solid this year, but he’s had a couple of really bad clunkers. And he’s pitched poorly against the Red Sox. 15 earned runs in 14 and a3 innings. That’s a 9.42 RA. Shout out to Brian Hook for pointing that out. Absolutely cannot allow him to pitch against the Red Sox in the postseason if that becomes uh a possibility. But um Freeman says Yanks can only score runs if they hit home runs. For the most part, that’s been true this year. But over the last several days, they’ve been playing really good baseball. And against somebody like Garrick Crochet, I mean, you’re not going to string together hits against this guy. This guy is one of the best pitchers in baseball. You hope to get a bloop and a blast here and then, and then you hope to pitch well enough. If the Yankees had gotten better pitching tonight, you know, you take away that six-run first inning, the Yankees won four nothing, right? I mean, the way to beat pitchers like Garrett Crochet is to keep the game tight and win it late in the bullpen or like out pitch him one to nothing. That’s how they used to beat Pedro Martinez. Those of you who remember the Yankees in the 90s that that was the plan. You get to Pedro by out pitching him. Uh, you know, by throw having your guy throw seven shutout innings and then hope that Pedro gets to 100 and 100 pitches and comes out of the game. But let’s revisit the gauntlet here, which is now complete. So, the Yankees won two out of three against Houston. Good series. They won two out of three against Toronto. They lost two out of three against Detroit. And two of the ugliest losses of the year. Uh allowed nine runs out of the bullpen in back-to-back games. And then they finished with two out of three against Boston. And now you got Minnesota for three in Minnesota. And then you go to Baltimore for four. So, this is a long road trip. Uh, you hope that they’re not dragging too much by the time they get to Baltimore. They should handle Minnesota pretty well. And then, I mean, honestly, they’re in good shape to win the wild card. You’re really not thinking division at this point now. Four games out. Just not going to happen with this this few games left. 13 games. Picking up four games in 13 games is not is not easy. And then you finish with the White Socks and the Orioles at home. So, you hope to align up your pitching and be ready going into the first round. So, at least we won’t have a a break this time. We’ll get to see baseball in the first round. We don’t know if we’ll get to see baseball in the second round, but we are going to get to see baseball in the first round. So, here’s what we saw. So, obviously, Judge is heating up. Another good night tonight. Couple of hits. Home run number 48. The starting pitching other than tonight honestly, Will Warren was pretty solid. Warren was pretty good his last time out against the Tigers. Jose Cabayro uh home run tonight. He’s outplayed Vulpi during the time that he’s he’s been the Yankees starting shortstop. In my opinion, I think he should remain the starting shortstop. Now, Vulpi was taking grounders before the game and the thought is that he’s going to return soon, but it would not shock me if Jose Cabayro is starting at shortstop when the playoffs begin. We had the great at bat by Bellinger yesterday against Chapman. Bellinger has been so clutch, so phenomenal. I really want the Yankees to resign him. Bring him back. Whether you play him in center, whether you play him at first, got to keep his bat in the lineup. He’s a contact hitting lefty with power. Exactly the type of hitter that we need and exactly the type of player that we need. Good base runner, hustles, sets a good example for the younger guys. The bullpen has been somewhat unreliable. better in this series, but against the Tigers, they were awful. Uh, we do have some guys rounding into form. You know, like I said, Dval pitched pretty good tonight. And Cruz bounced back from his horrible outing. Devin Williams still scares the hell out of me. Just scares the absolute dog out of me. Uh, but, you know, he’s had a couple of scoreless outings in a row. Stanton, Wells, and V, well, Vulpi has has not played much, but Wells not played well. Stanton has not played well the last couple of weeks. Uh he had that home run a couple of nights ago, a few nights ago back at Yankee Stadium, but didn’t really do anything in this series. He had a base hit tonight. Uh and then uh I don’t trust Boone. I still don’t trust our manager. It’s very difficult to win with a bad manager. I do not trust Aaron Boone in the big spot to make the right call. Uh and that series against Detroit was ugly. But that’s what we’re looking at. Gauntlet, I think overall, we got to give the Yankees a round of applause. Despite the loss tonight, they hung in there pretty well. Let’s take a few voicemails. Here’s Josh. Hey Derek, this is Josh from Connecticut. It’s not playing for me. Let me let me stop it and restart it. Hey Derek, this is Josh from Connecticut. And Will Warren just showed us who he is tonight. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Will Warren fan. In fact, actually, I’ve been an advocate for giving him a chance. And he is a great pitcher except for big games. The Dodgers, remember that disaster back in I think June it was? end of May, he got lit up like a Christmas tree. He got destroyed in that Red Sox game. I think they lost 12 to one last month. And now six runs in the first inning against the Red Sox. Absolutely pathetic. Let him be part of your rotation. He’ll throw the ball every five days, make 32 starts, have a between three to four RA and beat up on the bad teams on the mid teams. But man, big moment playoffs, can’t trust him. Yeah, I think Will Warren goes to the bullpen in the playoffs. I think Cam Schlitler has done enough and his fastball plays against everybody. I mean, 99 up in the zone will play against everybody, right? Especially with his curveball, his arm angle. I think Cam Schlitler has done enough to earn uh some playoff appearances. How deep they get into the playoff, I don’t know. But I would rather see Schlitler start in a big spot than Will Warren. Although Will Warren, you know, he’s been mostly solid this year. Uh, so, you know, I I can see Will I can see Will Warren being effective out of the bullpen because he does get strikeouts. I could also see him eating up some innings if you need to go to somebody early in the game. You know, let’s say it’s uh like Carlos Rodon last year in the playoffs. There were a couple of games where he went like four innings and he’d be at 100 pitches and he pitched okay, but you needed to get length out of the pen to fill up that gap. I could see him filling in in that kind of situation nicely. Got a call here about the podcast. Let me find out what this is. Uh, hey Derek Joe from Jersey. Uh, I hope I don’t get uh crucified for leaving this message. Uh, but I enjoy your podcast that you do alone. Now, hear me out. I mean nothing against your guests. No disrespect. I have no problems with these individuals at all. What I mean by that is when it’s just you, you’re more engaging with us, the audience. When you’re with someone else, I’m sitting here listening to two guys talking. I don’t know if that makes any sense. It’s your podcast. You do what you want. I’m still going to continue to watch. I’m just telling you I enjoy it better or it’s more of a oneon I feel like it’s a one-on-one interaction more or less. I I hear you. Um, so doing 162 post games and then also I don’t know how many voicemail shows. cuz I think we’ve done over 200 some odd podcasts this year. It’s difficult to to do those solo to do all because a lot of times I find myself repeating myself because a lot of times things don’t change that dramatically dayto-day. There are days when I’m busy, you know, I work another job, right? I I I I will um I’ll be editing a podcast all day long or I’ll have meetings or I’ll just be busy and I won’t be able to put the kind of thought into the show that I want to put in, the kind of research. And so on those days where I’m just a little bit of ti I’m tired. I want to just veg out and watch the game. You know, I’ll invite Frankie on. I like having TK on. I like his perspectives a a lot. Different eras. I think it adds something to have different folks on. Janna is great to have on from time to time. I love having Kratzy on. But um yeah, I mean I also enjoy doing it solo. So, you know, it is what it is. Uh I mix it up. Different strokes for different folks. Uh I thank you for you know that you’re going to keep watching. and you’re not one of these people who’s like, “Oh, every episode isn’t exactly how I want it, so I’m going to quit.” yada yada yada. But, um, hey, it is what it is. Uh, I hope you continue to tune in and enjoy. Quick word from Fair Harbor, then we’ll wrap it up. Um, we are now uh moving this squad over to Minnesota and typically Minnesota has not been much of a problem for the Yankees. So, I expect the next few days to go rather well. Baltimore has not had a good year. Man, they’ve really fallen off. So, this road trip, you can’t let your foot off the gas, but it should go rather smoothly from here on out. White Socks are no threat when you come back home after a day off. And then you finish off against Baltimore who will be on the road and they’re just going to be wanting to get get the season over with. So, you know, uh right now, let me see what the Yankees record is because I can’t even remember right now. They are 83 and 66. 13 games left. I think they go 10 and three. So, let’s say a 93 and 69 season. That’s not bad. You know, that’s better than they were anticipated to do when we lost Garrett Cole. So, uh, you know, it is what it is. You just got to be ready for the playoffs. It’s, as Derek Jeter said, it’s not the best team that wins in the playoffs. It’s the hottest. And when the Yankees get hot, they get scalding scalding hot. Melanie says Minnesota is a must sweep series. Absolutely. Especially if you’re thinking division, which I don’t think the Yankees really have given up on the division, but I think realistically everybody knows that it’s more likely they win the wild card at this point. But, um, you know, we’ll say 10 and three, 93 wins. I’ll sign up for that right now. Uh, ladies and gentlemen, thanks for watching. I’ll be back tomorrow after the game. Reminder, the game starts at 7:40 p.m. because of the time zone. So, uh, we’ll see you a little bit later than usual, but I will be here and I’ll catch you then. Looks like the division is out of reach. I’ve watched a few of the Toronto comebacks. Very impressive!
Even though we won the series, we lost a game on Toronto. If there is any hint of pressure, Warren just does not have it. During the gauntlet, we played well but not well enough. The team always leaves you wanting more.
Baboone makes punt lineups and put’s Giancarlo in left and that’s the winning strategy
Was he tipping against the Red Sox? The Red Sox managed to get five straight hits in the first inning.
I'm wondering if Warren was tipping pitches . When duran tripled and was on 3rd base he did the bird wings gesture. Could have been mocking yanks. It's possible in my opinion yanks caught on ; from 2nd inning on soxs did nothing. Remember, Cora was in Houston back during the trash can banging days.
Lagrange or erc over warren ANYDAY 4 me
Nobody is afraid of the Yankees
Defense is a joke, the bullpen is a shambles
