A reminder of Pat Meyer’s NFL track record prior to getting four years as our O-Line coach and the opportunity to develop two first round tackles:

  1. Im not trying to defend Pat Meyer, but I feel like hes more being scrapegoated because of Broderick.

Frazier, fucking excellent as a rookie, Mason McCormick was a very playable starter as a 4th round rookie. Fautanu got beat once this game, but in his overall games has been solid.

They cant run block, but that might be more schematic. The only outright failure of development so far has been Broderick. Of which I must pose the question, is this a Broderick issue or a Meyers issue then?

  2. Arthur Smith is unuronically our best member of the coaching staff thats how dire it is. I hope next season we trade up in the draft for an elite QB prospect (if there is one) and clean house coaching wise including Tomlin. It could backfire but Im sick of being in purgatory

  3. Of all the coaching hires and retentions this team has made in recent years, this is the one that confuses me the most.

Even with this team’s worst coaches the last few seasons, I can at least see the logic in why they were brought onboard or kept. Keith Butler wasn’t a popular DC, but the defense under him was generally pretty good. Matt Canada was the worst OC in the modern history of the game, but he had a decent college record and the HoF worthy starting QB liked him, so I can at least understand what they were thinking in bringing him onboard.

What in the actual fuck is the arguement to be with Meyer? He’s been horrible as the OL coach, and he was horrible as the OL coach for the last two teams he was with.

  4. Ok so here is the question: what is he bringing to the table or what did they THINK he was when he was hired? When you look at those results you really have to wonder what they looked at when he was hired. I would think they’d have been looking at literally only those stats.

  5. You forgot the quality that’s prized in our assistants above all: being a yes man to Mike Tomlin. He meets that and can be a sacrificial lamb to point to when things go wrong for Mike T so he keeps his job yet again. Yay

  6. this organization desperately needs a power struggle between tomlin on the one hand and khan/weidl on the other with khan/weidl emerging victorious. only way anything’s going to change. a reverse cowher vs. donahue type situation

  7. “Fire Meyer” Needs to start coming up every game, and at every college gameday, at WWE. Anywhere and everywhere just like “Fire Canada” did.

  8. Stopped paying attention after I read “PFF”. PFF is the biggest joke of a company ever. I’ll never forget when they had TJ ranked as something like the 20th or worse edge rusher. They ranked Minkah pretty bad at times, ranked some of our best players pretty low, and offensive lineman that didn’t last more than a season or two pretty high. They’re a joke.

  9. What if coaches of worth really dont want to work under Tomlin. There could b stories that we dont know about. I always thought it was odd that he came out of nowhere to get the job. His relationship with the Rooneys from the outside seems weird. If Tomlin was a coach on any other team he would have been fired by now.

  10. This is what makes me most furious of this team… we have a OL Coach that sucked, and sucks, and no one is doing anything about it, we just focus in “Kaleb fucked up”. With Kaleb’s fuck up, we would’ve still won with a mildly acceptable OL.

  11. You can do the same thing with Austin. He destroyed Detroit’s and the Bengals defense. Arthur only claim to fame is an OC with Derek Henry. Under Tomlin our coordinators have been awful.

  12. If things never change despite hiring new employees the problem is clearly NOT management. /S

  13. Tomlin hires unwanted coaches on purpose so no one poaches them a year or two into the job. He admitted it on Ryan Clarks podcast a while back, and it’s that philosophy that’s killing this team. Imagine going out of your way to intentionally not hire the best coach possible.

  14. You read a bio like that and you know he had to come cheap…. and probably stay cheap…. just something to consider.

  15. How do we not have impressive OL coaches lining up to coach our line? We’ve completely rebuilt it over the last three years. If I was a hotshot up and coming OL coach, I would be banging on Tomlin’s door to coach.

  16. He was cheap so Rooney loved him and he gives zero pushback so Tomlin loves. This organization’s leadership seeks comfort before anything else.

  17. Not only does no one develop under him, they regress. Brod for sure, now it seems like Frazier is regressing too and Troy isn’t playing very well.

  18. People get hired in the coaching profession because they are buddies with other coaches. It’s the biggest good ole boys club in the world

  19. How do we consistently hire coaches and coordinators that have horrible track records ? What does this franchise think they are gonna change with these sub par coaches?

  20. It would be easy to blame this all on Tomlin, but our entire staff except for him feels like cheap guys they could keep around for not much effort. Might be more Rooney than we think. We won’t know until 1 is gone, and we know Art isn’t going any time soon.

  21. Unserious organization

Rather hire someone’s unqualified buddy to be a key coach instead of actually hiring the best talent

Really encapsulates how far the steelers have fallen

  22. I’ll give a ton of grace to the fact that I’m not in this business and I don’t have anywhere near enough expertise to render accurate judgment on who has jobs and why and who’s great and why, but… how the sweet fuck does this guy have a job.

  23. You all keep pointing out how many coordinators and coaches we have are so bad, but refuse to look at who has hired them.

  24. After reading this I have no idea how Philip Rivers is still walking and was still able to have a few kids from 2017-2019.

  25. We were told at the end of last season we would see big changes. Pat Meyer and Teryl Austin should have been at the top of that list.

  26. This is Tomlin’s MO. Preach about being results based, then let obvious underachievers stick around for years upon years.
