Celtics Fans Should Be FIRED UP After This Jayson Tatum Injury Update | Boston Celtics News

[Music] Well, we got a Jason Tatum injury update and Celtics fans should be fired up as JT looks back on the basketball court here. He was down in Durham, North Carolina at the little Duke Hoop Summit with Cooper Flag and Emil Jefferson and Jabari Parker and all the great Blue Devils that have come through those walls. And Tatum was out there on the basketball court. Now, we did not see any video of Tatum. I doubt he was even jogging out there to be quite honest with you, but he is ramping up and and getting his rehab process, you know, further along uh as we get closer and closer to the start of this new season. Now, there’s not a great chance that Jason Tatum ends up playing this this next season, but he looks like he’s a little bit further along than many people had originally suggested with the Achilles injury being so damaging. I guess I should say Tatum did post this to his Instagram story as well. This is late last week, so 17 weeks in. We’re 18 weeks in now and he’s in the arrowback center. He’s lifting weights. He’s getting back into the shape that he needs to get into uh to maximize this recovery process and get closer and closer to getting back out there on the court for your Boston Celtics. Look, I I’m I’m telling you guys, I think we are about to see the greatest Achilles recovery in NBA history. When throughout the game’s history have we seen a 27-year-old player of Jason Tatum’s frame, of Jason Tatum’s abilities on the court, you know, have one of the most career deteriorating injuries that the game has to offer. I mean, what we’ve seen from Achilles injuries in the past, guys usually aren’t the same. Kevin Durant, the best recovery that we’ve seen to this point, and even he had to change some elements of his game as he’s progressed and gotten older. So, in Tatum’s case, I think we’re going to see an even better recovery than we have with KD’s with the physical shape that he’s been in for his entire career to this point. He’s the NBA’s Iron Man. Never misses time. I don’t anticipate him being uh hampered after this injury because there’s nothing in the previous that that has suggested that for Jason Tatum. Make sure you are subscribed to the channel. We’ll be providing Jason Tatum injury updates as he gets closer and closer to that recovery. We have a new injury update to talk about today from a Celtics teammate, so stay tuned for that. We also provide breaking news coverage. Whenever the Celtics make a move, we’ll make a video right here. When the season begins, we’ll be doing live watch parties and it’s all 100% free Celtics coverage. We have 53,000 diehard Celtics fans already a part of the channel. We are on our way to 54,000. My goal is to get to 54K by opening night. Can we get 463 Diehard SE fans go down below and hit that subscribe button for free informative Celtics content every day right here on YouTube? All right, Jason Tatum is in the Celtics building and teammates are taking notice. This is really the injury update that we’re talking about here. The Duke stuff, yay, he was just hanging around. That’s all good vibes. And he’s given his veteran mentorship to some of the young players that are out there at Cameron Indoor. But Jason Tatum is in Boston. He has been working all offseason and, you know, doing whatever he can to put himself in shape to where he when he whenever he is ready, he’s ready, really ready to go. Jordan Walsh was also been in the building and he had this to say about Tatum and his recovery process. The energy in the gym changes when he walks through. He’s not the most vocal guy, but he’s more of a silent leader. Him and JB, Jaylen Brown are more silent leaders. So, when they step in the gym, you could feel the energy shift. You could feel the attention going to them. And this is more about Tatum here. We’ve seen him so often. I’ve seen him from when he missed messed up his Achilles to now. And it’s a big difference. He’s moving around way better. So, he’s progressing well. I’m definitely happy to see him getting back healthy. And with Jason Tatum being in and around the Celtics building and in the Celtics clubhouse here, he’s setting a precedent. That’s what Jordan Walsh called it. Jason Tatum is setting a precedent by being out there and working hard and and training up as much as he can be this offseason. And well, Jordan Walsh also said that Tatum’s doing of that is inspiring the rest of the healthy Boston Celtics. Because if Jason Hatum’s going to be out here injured and still putting in the work, then there’s no excuse for the rest of the guys on this team to not put in the same level, if not more of an effort level this off seasonason. So, I’m glad that Tatum is inspiring the rest of his teammates and still being a leader while he can’t be out there practicing and ramping up for training camp. Jason Tatum said this about his injury way back when. He said, “This injury will not define me and I cannot wait to get back in Celtics Green to show you why.” I can’t wait for him to get back in Celtic Green either. And I do not think that the door is completely shut on Jason Tatum making a return for the 2025 2026 NBA season. Is there a chance that we see a Tatum return this season? Look, Achilles injuries usually go for an entire season. Jason Tatum got hurt in late May, so already after an entire NBA regular season, so the the likelihood is very low. But based on what we’ve heard, like I don’t think everybody is just marking this whole season as a done for Jason Tatum. Chris Forsber, remember when he said this right around when Tatum had first gotten injured? It feels like the team’s reluctance to one set a firm timeline and two formally ruled Tatum out for the 202526 season, even after a team like the Pacers did just that with Tyrese Halbert and they ruled him out for the whole year seems to suggest a desire to avoid putting any limitation on his rehab process. I thought team president Rich Gotham summed it up best when he recently noted, “What I know about JT is he’s going to do everything he can to put us in a deci position to make a decision.” So, it sounds like to me that they’re leaving the door open, a possibility for Jason Tatum to return. And look, from everything that I I said earlier with Tatum really never missing time in his NBA career so far, he’s been the definition of health and durability. So, I would understand why they’re not trying to limit Jason Tatum here in his recovery process. I’m telling you, it’s going to be the best one that we’ve ever seen, but it will also depend on where the Boston Celtics are at the time of Jason Tatum being ready to get back on the court. Like, what is what are the Boston Celtics going to be this upcoming year? Are they going to be a playoff team, a contender in the Eastern Conference, Jaylen Brown, all NBA first team type of play, or are they going to be somewhere closer to the playin tournament or out of the postseason altogether? I personally believe that if the Celtics are contending and they are, you know, in a position to be in the playoffs, I don’t think Jason Tatum would come back or should come back for that matter because you one, you don’t really want to mess up with what whatever Boston has going on chemistry-wise and continuity-wise and momentum wise heading into a postseason run. But two, you also don’t want to put Jason Tatum in that position of rushing him back into as high of a leverage position as you possibly could be putting him in in a postseason run. And the ne all of a sudden like you’re depending on him. Like when you bring Jason Tatum back, you’re bringing back your number one player. You’re bringing back your number one scoring option. So when he does return, there’s going to be a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Going to be a lot of weight on his shoulders because he’s not going to come in there and just ease back into things, be a role player. No, he’s going to go in there and be a focal point for your Boston Celtics. So, I would advise if they are super competitive and, you know, close to the top of the Eastern Conference, not bringing back Jason Tatum. If they are, you know, closer to a rebuilding looking team and they’re not in the postseason picture, then I would bring back Jason Tatum and get him some reps and get him doing what he needs to do in order to be all the way ready for 2026, 2027. So, I wouldn’t rush him back. But, if the Celtics are in a spot where it makes sense, then we can talk about that and have a conversation down the line. Will Jason Hatum play a game this season? Let me know. Predict it for me down in the comments section. Why for yes and for no? I’m trying to hear what the green teams have to say and how optimistic you are about a Jason Tatum return this year. We also got to talk about who replaces Jason Tatum. Next, a Celtics insider predicted who that breakout star would be in JT’s absence. We’ll tell you who it is in just a moment. But first, get hooked up with this awesome deal. Could it be coming for Celtics’s first round pick, Baylor Shyman, 24 years old, and he hasn’t yet gotten the opportunity, at least to the fullest extent that we’ve hoped for Baylor Shyman. And look, the efficiencies in his game as coming out of college, you know, five-year player with a strap on him, right? He was one of the best shooters at the collegiate level for multiple seasons, both off the dribble and on the catch and on the on the spot up. He was dynamite from beyond the arc. But in his NBA career so far, he has been anything but that. Uh in limited action, he’s only averaged 3.6 points per game, two rebounds a night, an assist, and abysmal efficiencies from the floor last year. Only played in 31 games. And I think there’s going to be way more on Baylor Shyman’s plate this upcoming season. And Jay King said this about Shyman and his uh second NBA season. He says Shyman will need to improve that that he can knock down shots consistently, but he has more to his game than just that. His passing shown last season and the Celtics like the edge he brings to the court with Jason Tatum sideline. Boston will have a hole on the defensive glass. Shyman, who owns the NCAA record for most defensive rebounds in a career, could be part of the solution there. in college at South Dakota State and at Kraton. Shyman would be a guy who was a oneman fast break and he would go out there, grab the defensive rebound, put the ball on the deck and move the ball up court, have his eyes, you know, down the court as well. He’s got excellent court vision and I think this is a good archetype to kind of be putting uh in Jason Tatum’s place here and giving him a big minutes load to see what he’s got and see if he could be a long-term piece because Jason Tatum does it all on the basketball court. He’s a Swiss Army knife, a dude at everything for the for the Boston Celtics. He’s he’s your number one scorer. He is your number one facilitator. He is your number one rebounder. He is your most wishable defender. He does everything for you out there. And that void and that gap will be noticeably absent this upcoming season with Jason Tatum sideline for at minimum uh you know 80 85% of the year. Could kind of fill that void here as there aren’t a lot of do it all wings on the Celtics bench this upcoming season. Well, in the summer league, he flashed that he can do those, you know, the have those has that skill set where he was averaging 12 points a game, you know, grabbing five boards, averaging seven assists per game, really running the the one for most of the Celtic summer league action. But what Jay King had mentioned there a little bit was the efficiencies and how much better uh Shyman has to be as a scorer and a shooter in order to carve out an established role for the Celtics. I mean, I know it’s not the uh most glamorous environment in the summer league and it’s not, you know, the most efficient place for scorers to be, but 20% from three-point range and 27% from the field, he was absolutely struggling and that cannot happen this upcoming year. He must improve that jump shot. Baylor Shyman also had a nine-game stretch and I I want to make it clear that we want to point out the positives with Shyman here because he did have a nine-game stretch this season where he was kind of getting some consistent minutes back in March where he was shooting four and a half three-pointers a game and he shot 47% on them. So, the shot can be there. I do believe with Baylor Sherman that with more opportunities is going to, you know, prove more results and and bigger output and higher efficiencies at the end of the day because to be honest with you, it can’t go much lower from what we’ve seen from Shyman both in his NBA career and in the summer league as well. Can he get a guaranteed roster spot though? Because I think that there are eight of those already locked up at this point. Peyton Pritchard, Anthony Simons, Derek White are going to be your guards that are getting the bulk of the minutes this upcoming year. Then Jaylen Brown, and Sam Hower will be your guys on the wing. expect them to play play a little bit of small ball four on some nights as well. Your bigs, who I think are guaranteed rotation spots. I’m not going to say they’re guaranteed starting spots just yet, and I think that that will be pretty dynamic as the season goes along, but Nemius Kada and Chris Buché will be in the mix there at the big man spot. Jason Tatum, I just had to include here because we needed an eighth name. But this is going to be your only guaranteed rotation spots for this upcoming season. So, uh, there’s going to be opportunity for a couple other guys, but they are going to be battling here. Now, speaking of which, we did actually see one of these guys that we haven’t seen in the Celtics uh, building just yet uh, make his kind of debut on Celtics social media here, Anthony Simons. We got proof he exists. Um, this was awesome to see that him in the building and see him working with some of the new additions from the Celtics offseason here. So, just wanted to throw this in on today’s show that we have proof that Anthony Simons exists, even though we haven’t seen him introduced to the media just yet. He also will be wearing number four replacing Drew Holidayiday’s jersey this season. Now, so as for the guys who are battling like Baylor Shyman here, he’s kind of at the top of the list from my point of view because you got Josh Minat and Luca Garza, your two free agent additions. Don’t really even play the same position as Baylor Shyman. So not much threats to him there. Jordan Walsh, Ugo Gonzalez, and Xavier Tilman. Like how many guys are really threatening Baylor Sherman’s spot in the rotation here? I think more of the guys who are already guaranteed rotation spots are are going to be the ones taking minutes away from him. But I mean, Charman’s got as good of an opportunity and as good of an investment into him as any of these guys do. I mean, there isn’t another guy on this list besides Ugo Gonzalez, who was invested with first round draft capital, and I think Ugo is going to spend more time with the main Celtics in the G-League this year than he will with the Boston ones. Uh, so we’ll see what what all happens, but Baylor Sherman’s got a runway to a really substantial and sizable rotation spot this upcoming season. So, predict it for me. 20 minutes a game. That’s all I’m asking. 20 minutes a game for Baylor Shyman this season. O for over, you for under. What do you guys have to say? Let me know down in the comments section. Is that will do it for today’s edition of Celtics Today by chat sports. Give me a follow over on Twitter, Tyler J. Smith. Two H’s cuz the name’s common, but I am not. 2. Bro is acting and glazing Tatum like he’s the greatest player of all time. Brown is as good of a scorer as Tatum is but he dosent get the touches like Tatum does. I am a big fan of the Celtics but I’ve always thought brown was better because brown is way more consistent than Tatum is. But smitty puts brown down but acts like Tatum dosent make the same mistakes as brown does. Every NBA player makes a mistake in the league and browns bouta have an mvp caliber season this year and prove he’s the Celtics best player

  3. Celtics have Jaylen Brown Payton Pritchard white etcetera of course they will be a playoff team again of course they will be this year if it has to be an 8th seed they will be in the playoffs this year

  4. Me personally I wouldn’t bring him back. Let him sit out the year let him work out and do rehab. The Celtics shouldn’t push him to come back because if they do push him to come back, he’s gonna aggravate injury and take along the process to heal amount season and then come back next season
