The 2025 Steelers defense is the most expensive in the NFL at $179 million, but not in the same league as 2008 Steelers D.
They also don’t make NT’s like Ham-hocks anymore. His friggin forearms are bigger than RC’s calves.
Aaron Smith is the most underrated guy off that unit. Belichick called him unblockable

I bet Big Snack could come in off the couch and play better NT than Benton. They have him playing out of position.
Yet they still play Renegade every game like it’s the ‘08 defense out there. Nevermind the fact that they’re 0-3 in their last 3 home games. At this point Renegade hypes up the opposition more than it does the Steelers, it’s just getting cringe and embarrassing.
These guys were football players, they lived it. The new guys are influencers that play football as a hobby and in the Steelers case a coach who refuses to adapt, change, and evolve. Just a bunch of guys with no motivation playing for a guy who’d rather be a poet with one-liners than a real coach.
Big Snack was a menace. That front 7 was so so good. Linebackers get the shine but Aaron Smith, Brett Keisel, and Hampton made the whole thing work, IMO.

When you can name 90% or more of an entire unit, including rotation guys. You know they were the best. Man, guess you don’t realize it’s the. Good Ole days while they are happening.

The Patriots didn’t even bother running against this team they threw like 50 times
That defense was legendary. I would much rather this team let tomlin, both smiths and especially teryl go, get a new coaching staff and this team be bad for several years than have to deal with the same merry go around with this tomlin led team year after year. He never had it after 08. Now it’s the same groundhog day-esque stuff with tomlin. Any other organization would have cut ties long ago. But nope, tradition is somehow more important than results.
