If you were a real estate agent and you were trying to sell me and say, “Hey, I want to be a real estate agent.” I would say, “How long have you been a real estate agent?” And if you said 10 years, I’d say, “Okay, take out your worst year and take out your best year. Everybody sells a mansion because you know the owner and you have friends of a friends and your parents knew him. Give me the other eight years. Take out your bad and your good. And so a lot of times you’ll see a young quarterback have a terrible quarter, but also have an amazing quarter. Take those out. You know what are you? So in seven of eight quarters JJ McCarthy has played, he has a passer rating of 37. He also has one quarter when he looked like Joe Montana. So I’m going to take that one out. Um, I mean, in seven of eight quarters, no touchdowns, three picks. I mean, Caleb Williams may look out of control and wild. In seven of eight quarters, JJ McCarthy looks utterly overwhelmed. The body language from his coach, he looks like a quarterback that never had to carry a team or play from behind. Oh, wait. That was his college resume at Michigan. And why I said coming into the season of all the first round quarterbacks, I didn’t get JJ McCarthy. Now, I may have missed on Caleb Williams, too, but I didn’t get JJ McCarthy. I think he’s struggling to see the field. I think he’s holding on to the ball too long. And there’s a big difference between managing Michigan when you’re the quarterback under Jim Harbaugh and being a quarterback in the NFL where sometimes you got to carry a bad old line or mismatches. You got to have vision, be anticipatory, get rid of the ball, quick decisions with punitive results if you don’t get it right. And I’m watching last night and again he had an unbelievable fourth quarter against Chicago who we now know is pretty bad. But I don’t know when I watched JJ McCarthy this was my fear is that he played for Harbaugh. They had a game in which he didn’t throw a pass in the second half. He always had the lead. He’d make one or two nice throws. You got to make one or two nice throws a drive in the NFL. One or two nice throws a drive. So, I mean, honestly, he looks like one of those Survivor contestants. By week three, the hair is disheveled. He looks tired. He hasn’t slept well. He’s losing weight. Like, just nothing feels right here. And again, good kid, works hard. Everybody talks about his leadership. One of the things I am almost turned off by when people say, “Well, he’s got it.” Well, what is it? That that that everybody had it under Jim Harbaugh. You know, it’s like Steve Spurer when he coached Florida. All the quarterbacks were great. They all had it. You got to give me traits. Big arm, mobility, thick body, whatever it is. Anticipatory thrower. I I I mean, he’s got an A+ head coach. He’s got an A+ Justin Jefferson. And seven of eight quarters, he just looks lost. So, um I I’m I’m not sure even Kevin Oonnell can fix it. And I They call him the tall Shawn McVey. I don’t know what to do with this. I know he’s only played eight quarters, but seven of them he looks overwhelmed. And here’s his coach after. He’s got to coach better. Uh specifically me. Um our team will uh handle the adversity that is now right at our, you know, right at our feet. It’s going to be um easy to try to put the microscope on JJ. And there’s certainly um some plays, some throws, some things that I’m sure he would love to, you know, get another op at. But I thought he also when we did move it, you know, I thought he made some throws. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He makes some throws. You have to be able to make some throws as a first round draft pick. If I had to hand out grades for all these quarterbacks, uh, on the draft class a couple of years ago, uh, I think I would give JJ McCarthy an incomplete. Obviously, Jaden Daniels is an A. Bo Nicks to me is a solid B. I think Pennix is going to work. I I would give Pennix a C+. Drake May a C. I don’t think Drake May quite has the pocket awareness of Michael Penn. I think Michael Penn is pretty good. Um Drake May has some talent, but Pennix is more aware in the pocket. Caleb Williams has horsepower. I’ll give him a plus on the D. JJ McCarthy to me is really incomplete. He’s got eight quarters, seven atrocious. Um I I again Kevin Oonnell, Justin Jefferson, the protection wasn’t good last night, but that was rough. That that was a rough watch. Coming up next, M. Jones. So, um, we said this for years and years about Kyle Shanahan. He made Matt Sha a Pro Bowler. Had a winning record with Brian Hoyer. Um, made Jimmy Garopppolo almost a Super Bowl winning quarterback, but he got him there and with a lead against Mahomes in the fourth quarter. And he pulled some magic yesterday with M. Jones. M. Jones threw the ball 39 times on the road. Christian McCaffrey only had 12 13 carries. Like it was a big ask. And M. Jones was great. Three touchdowns, no picks, 280 yards, 113 passer rating. He asked him to throw almost 40 times on the road. There’s no George KD. There’s no Brandon Iayuk. Where do these tight ends come from? That was a big ask. And I’ll say this, the good news for San Francisco, they now have two quarterbacks that work. One’s probably overpaid and one’s absolutely underpaid. But this is what Kyle Shanahan does. That’s why I always said with Brock Pury, Brock’s better than M. Jones. I I’m not denying that. Is he 265 million better? Cuz you go on the road with no KD, no Brandon Iuk, I know it’s the Saints, but it’s an NFL team. You ask him to throw 39 times, M. Jones has a below average NFL body. He’s not a great athlete. He’s got an average NFL arm. And that was a big ask. And he was really good. And the rival LA Rams do a very good job of separating performance from circumstance. I don’t think the Niners do. I think the Rams do. That’s why the Rams will let go to Jared Goff or Todd Gurley or Cooper Cup or Jaylen Ramsay. They know that Shawn McVey elevates every B player to an A player or a C player to a BB minus player and so does Shanahan. But sometimes they struggle. San Francisco struggles separating performance from circumstance. And I think a lot of Brock Purd success is circumstantial. It’s because of Shanahan. And yesterday proves it. I mean, M. Jones is not He could be one of the worst NFL athlete to quarterback. He does not have a big arm. 39 throws, 113 passer rating. Um, and that was his best game as a pro. M. Jones best game as a pro. So, I’m not saying he’s Brock Pury. He’s not. But Brock Pur’s dinged up again. And Shanahan’s playbook might as well be called Quarterback for Dummies. It’s impossible not to figure out, you know, and I I just watched that yesterday and boy, you got to feel good if you’re a Niner fan. You have two guys now. One of them you’re paying nothing that can run your system. Even if it’s Luke Ferrell, no relation to Will. I mean, I don’t know. Luke Frell, I thought drafted by Jacksonville, I thought. I don’t know. Here’s Shanahan after. I thought Mack played real well. Um, we had a number of things we had to change up. It was a big deal losing juice there early in the game, especially with KD out, just the stuff we had to do with other tight ends. So, we were scrambling there for a little bit trying to figure some things out. Thought he handled the situation well. Um, thought he delivered the ball real well. Um, obviously wouldn’t like to have that fumble back. Um, hopefully we can get rid of it a little earlier. I didn’t it didn’t look like anyone was really open though. Um, but I thought he did a hell of a job. So, here we are in week two and the NerS have a quarterback issue. Pretty keeps getting hurt and then they have a quarterback solution. M. Jones is really good. And I want to put up I want to put up that quarterback grade. Uh, and remember I’ve only got a couple of I I’ve only got a couple of games with JJ McCarthy. So his grade is incomplete. Although one more stinker and he may be on academic probation. So my my report card on the quarterback so far is I think Pennix is going to work. I think he gets rid of the ball quick. He’s got power behind his arms. uh those you know left-handed athletes they could be golfers they could be basketball player left-handed athletes always look better. So if you look at that report card for the quarterbacks Jaden Daniels is an A. It absolutely works. Bo Nicks works too. You could say well it’s Shawn Peyton. Well Shawn Payton’s not retiring anytime soon. So Bo Nicks’s reality is he is B+. And for the record Denver has done very well drafting receivers. Franklin can play and Marvin Mims can play. So they got another kid they just took from Illinois in the third round. They’ve got all sorts of receivers and I’m not even talking about Courtland Sutton. Uh Michael Pennock C++, he’s probably higher than that. I don’t have a lot to work with, but Michael Pennix gets rid of that ball so fast. Super accurate. I really like what I’ve seen. I think Drake May’s got talent. I just I don’t think he has the pocket awareness of Michael Penn yet. Now, Michael Penn also played at Indiana. He played at Washington. He’s got a ton of starts with really good coaches, but I think PennX is a hit. I think he’ll be in the B category in about two weeks. Uh Drake’s a C. Caleb’s got talent. That’s not it. I mean, he he can run. He’s got a huge arm, but it’s not working with Ben Johnson. In fact, I think Ben Johnson and Michael Penn would be a great fit. A timing coach with a timing quick release quarterback.

I had a feeling both them and the Bears were not very good teams.
I think a lot of teams that did a honoring of Charlie Kirk this weekend actually did pretty damn good isn't that crazy that a far left Blue State like Minnesota and I'm from their people I was born there I'm a Vikings fan so don't think I'm being biased I'm not but I guarantee you if there would have been a moment of silence and it was actually meant Foley with all of Minnesota's heart I think they would have won this game but JJ McCarthy no I'm sorry should have kept darnold even so I didn't like him should have kept him
And I see a lot of people attacking this guy because last week he said something about they got their guy he was impressed with his play but now that he's seen him play yesterday he's changed his opinion I don't see the problem you guys are trying to say he's contradicting himself no he's not the NFL is a week by week situation it changes every single weekend every single week so you guys should know that if your football fans
Those grades…
Yeah he still is a rookie so don't expect much but let me say something this is the Vikings MO they've always had a quarterback problem when they got Brett Favre if Brett Favre was 2 years younger and would have stayed with the Vikings for 3 years the Vikings would have won their first Super Bowl plain and simple that's the truth and the Vikings I don't think will ever win a Super Bowl unless they change so much of their fundamentals which I don't think they ever will because there's such a far left state so they bleed purple and when you bleed something you usually die out and go away you don't matter anymore and that's the Vikings MO😊 and I'm a Vikings fan I was born in Saint Paul but I'm smart enough to know that's the truth
And let's say they pick up the pace and he starts doing good let's say they win 10 games or more and he looks like a superstar dumb people in Minnesota like I used to be are going to think oh you know what we're on fire we're going to the Super Bowl we're winning no you're not I mean no we are not😊 it's never going to happen and the fact that a lot of teams took a moment of silence for a man that was a good man that was murdered on the 10th of this month they bowed and they remembered him I think a lot of them won but Minnesota I knew they weren't going to do nothing like that because they're too far left it's a blue state it's a disgusting state 99% of people that live there sorry family you guys got brain freeze and your brains are always going to stay half Frozen that's why you're not smart people
As a pats fan can't be happier we made the right choice. Despite our rebuilding situation Maye is looking sharp and showing flashes.
If jj played for sean payton colin would mke every excuse for him. Bo Nix has thrown 3 picks in 2 games but colin will blame the government before he say anything abt sean payton's broncos.
Yeah, you’re dust in the wind Collin
I watched JJ in college and I knew he was a bust waiting to happen. He couldn’t throw the ball.
McCarthy looks good awful. I'm willing to bet wentz will look like Darnold and they might actually be competitive.. viking got lucky to play again awful Caleb for his first game
So 8 quarters of play is now the standard for when we get to determine if a guy can play or not? This is so dumb.
Colin is the best backtracker in the business.
The Vikings should panic about an offensive line that has forgotten how to block. There is not a quarterback in the NFL who could have done better with the blocking in that game.
bo over MP 🤣🤣🤣
Colin he has played only 2 NFL games, both on primetime….. R-E-L-A-X
3:10 " they call him [Kevin O'Connell] the tall Sean McCvay…." Colin is the only person I've heard call him that. Has anyone else? Or is Uncle Colin just manifesting something
You think JJ might be missing just one thing protection it would be nice wouldn't it.
I love it haha good talking
He is weak maybe drinking too much before the games
I love listening to Colin but some of these takes are an absolute joke… JJ is essentially a rookie, who had his second start in the NFL at age 22, and guess what – this week he welcomed the birth of his first child… It would be obvious to say he had a lot going on this week… Wait til he heals up and can process everything – I guarantee he will be better!
Joe Kapp first year 3 wins 5 losses and 3 ties with 8 TDs and 17 interceptions , in 3rd season went to Superbowl. he was near 30 years old much like Tarkenton started off his first year 3 wins 11 losses with 18 TD and 17 interceptions or Peyton Manning first year 3 wins 13 losses with 26 TD and 28 interceptions.
One it can take a while for QB’s to develop not to mention all the injuries the Vikings currently have. I’m sure they will fine once they have all the pieces. Mainly Darrisaw, JJM was getting killed Sunday night from the left side.
