Steelers hurt by special teams issues in Week 2 drop vs. Seahawks | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC

The Steelers aren’t going to make the playoffs if they play like they did yesterday. No. And you know the the the weird play in the special teams. That’s usually what happens for the Steelers. Not a rookie failing to understand it’s a live ball. After the game, Mike Tomlin said Caleb Johnson is just a young player who made poor judgment. You know nothing about football if you don’t know it’s a live ball. It’s a live ball. You got to get on that ball. Shocked. But that’s the kind of seven points the Steelers would swipe. Yeah. They usually get that and it becomes the back breaker, right? This was the back breaker because the the Seahawks go up three and now they’re up 10 and that’s just harder for the Steelers to come back cuz we’re in the fourth quarter. Just felt like it was over there. No, felt like it was over. It was the It was the biggest play of the game. The biggest play of the game for sure. Right. I think you you couple this here with I you know, again, I don’t think he even touched the ball. Doesn’t matter. It’s a live ball. I know that that’s the thing, right? And and yeah, I mean that’s and that’s what we’re going to see though. We’re going to see a lot of these ugly kicks where they they find a way to put the ball into the landing zone and it’s not it’s going to be squibbing around. It’s going to be bouncing around. You got to be able to field it. You got to be a good shortstop if you’re going to be a kick returner. I think somebody said that last year when they when they first I think it was Shawn Peyton like I need guys to return the kicks who are going to be good infielders because there’s going to be weird balls hitting and they have to go get the ball because it’s a live ball. Yeah. Yeah. That was big. It’s not sustainable to your point with how they’re playing. Their defense is getting absolutely pushed around for the second week in a row. Special teams not good. They can’t run the ball. Aaron Rogers has been hit a lot through two games. And you know another we saw we saw the kickoff return blunder. They also had the Aaron Rogers interception in the end zone. Right. The game was 144 at that point. Tie game at the point and it looked like Pat Footh caught it but Calvin Austin got in front of the ball tipped it. It got picked off and Aaron was not happy. He said uh to quote him, “Get the F out of the way.” Right? because Calvin Austin was on the sideline where he should be and then he dove back into the play and stuck his hand out when it looked like the ball was about to hit Frier in the back of the end zone right in the chest to go up 2114.   2. Seattle also dominated on the defensive side of the ball in the 2nd half, allowing only 3 points, multiple interceptions and multiple sacks. 2 games in a row now with the same stat lines.

  5. Here we go, these people are not going to put blame on the proper person. This ill prepared parade should fall on the head coach. But as usual, they slight of hand blame to protect the culprit. A Mike Tomlin coached game has these types of things going on consistently. Blaming a rookie for a fundamental in football is ridiculous and a constant in Pittsburgh. Rodgers should fake a soft tissue injury and just set this season out before he gets seriously injured, especially at the end of his career. This is not a cohesive unit, and someone should tell tomlin,that just because you are throwing a bunch of money at it don't gaurantees wins. But no, it's actions like these that give Mikey Tom a mulligan at total failure. Spouting tomlinisms at the water jug to whoever will listen shouldn't be considered great coaching.

  7. What happened is the football godz still feel that the Seahawks are owed some grace for the injustice that was perpetrated in their first Superbowl. That is why the deux ex machamera thing happened. Or it was just a stupid rookie being put on the fielded before he was ready.
    Either way the harmonic balance of the football cosmos has been restored somewhat. And all is right in the world.

  13. Steelers ultimately hurt by Tomlin time and time again. Can’t draft! Can’t develop! He is a DC pretending to be a HC because the owner is drunk most of the time! Steelers are a disgrace. I wish we had soccer rules and the Steelers could kicked to a lower level league where they belong. ARII must step down! You embarrassing your family name!

  20. The Steelers are a disfuncional team on defense since the last year and Mr Rooney doesn’t care about that because the black rule. Yes fire Bruce Arians and get anybody ! There are more black coaches that want to coach.

  24. I don’t uderstand how that was a touchdown he didn’t even control the ball he fell on it and rolled over and the ball was out but he had already touched out bounds. I thought you had to maintain control where was control there
