Cubs vs. Pirates Game Highlights (9/15/25) | MLB Highlights
It is Roberto Clemente Day and very special that we are in Pittsburgh as we honor one of the greatest players in Big league history and certainly one of the most noted philanthropists in major league history. Roberto Clemente players are very excited about this day every single year. I think it’s a reminder of, you know, what really matters in this, in this game, but, you know, in this world, congratulations to Paul Skeens for being announced as the Pittsburgh Pirates. Roberto Clemente award nominee. Paul was recognized on field beside Roberto’s son Luis for PNC Park, the Cubs and the Pirates here tonight, Roxton Ashcraft, who goes today, he’s been starting, he’s been relieving today. He makes his seventh start and boy, has he been good as a starter just above a one, a, he’s challenging hitters and avoiding barrels of a swing and miss struck him out with a curve. Ashcraft comes right after Michael Busch one out. One of those that looked like it hit something invisible and it bounced off. That’s how sharp that break was swing and a miss struck him out with a down and in curveball that really does break another terrific curveball struck out bus with a curveball and lead off the game and he strikes out 398. That’s the rookie Valles on Clemente day Jamison on the mound for the Cubs. This will be his second start since coming off the il with that groin strain Wednesday in Atlanta threw the ball well, four and a third innings, six hits just a couple of runs two up and two down against and Ryan reynolds will come to two pitch. The curveball spanked into right field by reynolds just his seventh hit in 41 at bats this season against Cubs pitching lifts this one of the year. Center field Cole Armstrong pitches around the single. Let’s see if Carson Kelly can get a hit this time as we go to the second inning drive to base hit out of the center field. Leadoff. Man is aboard. Well, there goes the no, no to go. The batter Willie Castro who against the high net, that’s the way to strike somebody out the swing of the miss the bat four strikeouts through two innings for Braxton two down. Nothing, nothing game, Jack Soins, the Chicago land native coming up bases clear swing and a mess. He struck him out with a changeup and Jamal on point so far leadoff man is aboard. We’ll keep our eye on Shaw when he walks the leadoff man who happens to be the number nine hitter. I always thought there’s a feeling in that dugout, we have to make him pay for this. Now, Michael Bush runner takes off, got a great, got him that Joey Bart got rid of that. That’s huge. The last thing you want to do is walk the nine hole hitter in any instance, especially with offenses as potent as this Chicago Cubs team in a terrific exchange by Joey Bart, right where these guys like it. Very nice job. Swing at a ball drill, center field that one back. So turning and looking here home run to center for Michael Bush. It’s number 28 and just like that, the Cubs lead one to Bush unloads to center unloads. Indeed. 105 miles off the bat by center field and a 98 mile an hour heater. This was a blast by Michael. He knew it as soon as he hit it , that ball was going to be gone. Big swing of the bat for Michael Bush 418 ft solid base hit by Nikko Horner, make that a 10 game hitting streak that he now enjoys. And now Ian with Horner on groundball base hit high. Stepan gets out of the way. He’s not stopping on his way to third and hat with a single, they’re at the corners by Asters infield at double play depth and a pitch moises wild pitch Cubs are going to get a run. Niko Horner scores half goes to second Cubs lead two to nothing. A breaking ball that bounced in the dirt and Then hit off the glove or the shin guard of bart , the catcher rolled over toward the Cubs first base dugout and the Cubs got a gift run. It’s two to nothing swung on and hit in the air to set a routine for soins and he makes the catch for the second out. That’s the first batter retired in the swing, a bouncer up third two hops for Triolo backing up to get a longer hop and the toss across scoop nicely by Hoitz and that ends the frame five in a row set down by Ty. He has retired seven of the eight in the game. The batter is nick will take a swing and a miss strike three and that’s out. Number two, Triolo will reach with two away and it brings up Spencer Horwitz. Triolo takes off pitches, a strike throw down is a strike with a little bit late. You beat it out. Stolen base for Triolo. Two out hit gets the Pirates on the board. Here’s the pitch field and Pete Crow Armstrong makes the catch the lefty batting, Pete Crow Armstrong, Dansby Swanson and Then will Castro for the Cubs PC. A rips that one out towards right center field off the top of the wall and he’s into second and there’s the guy he whistled a line drive to deep right center, more towards center than right. It just didn’t have enough height to leave the yard but Ron , you’re hoping that that’s the one that gets him turned around Armstrong very fast as well. So we’ll see how that plays out as this inning starts. Here’s Dansby Swanson. He’s running trying to steal third the throw to third and they’ll never get him stolen base. Pete Armstrong. Now a man at third with nobody out what a weapon speed is unloads left field that one back near the wall and it short hops the wall. Dansby to second. Pets in to score and the Cubs lead it 3 to 0. Dansby swats in RB. I double back to back doubles by the Cubs here in the fourth line drive bullet off the right center field wall by Pete and now long doubled by Dansby and this ball short hops right at that 379 mark in straight left field, swing a busted back, ground ball on to third and Triolo gloves and throws out the first and so the runner at second cannot advance. He’s still there now with one out swing and a fly ball in the air centerfield playable for so over to his right and make the catch and the runner Swanson still stuck at second now with two nice play there by and on the first and a slick pick by Horowitz. Terrific play saves the run right there and see if the Pirates can get something going here in the bottom of the 42 out and nobody on in the Pirates. Fourth inning 3 to 0 cubs lead here is andrew Mccutchen flat out to center one. Hopper backhanded by Swanson from the outfield grass throws to first to get him 123 inning for Ty Kelly one for two with a single and he’s done well. Hit up third great play by Triolo Dena. It and throws to first and a good crossover by Horwitz at the bag one out. What a play by Jared Triolo Robbing Carson. Kelly Pete Crow Armstrong began one of the cub rallies with a double in the fourth innings swinging at a high fly ball trailed right for that’s back on its way. Pete Crow Armstrong unloads and for PC A it is number 29 he crushed it. He’s been sitting on number 28 for a while. Boy, is that ever a great sign after the double off the wall? Last time he goes way back here 100 and 8.8 MPH. August 22nd. Last time PC A PC A perhaps has his groove back low and inside that’s full of four to Castro. Now, Matt Shaw will runner goes that one flared into right field. It calls for a hit Castro not stopping and Willie is to third and they’re at the corner. Good job by Shaw to get enough of it and dunks it into right Michael Busch at the plate swinging a bouncing ball to first two hops for h who gloves cleanly and takes it to the bag for the final out cub strand two , but they get a run on the Crow Armstrong home run. Now you got two men on two outs. Tommy Pham, a dangerous hitter coming up. He’s hitting three and three with runners in scoring position and has to bear down. You do not want to give up a home run and make this a one run game. good meeting here, tommy Hot. The Cubs pitching coach heading out to give more so than anything else. Just a little breather. Third Shaw will scoop it up, step on the bag and gets out of the jam. Jamison Taone is through for the night six innings. He allowed two hits no runs. He struck out three through 88 pitches man on the mound, Michael fresh off the injured list and it’s a walk to start the seventh two gone for Joey Barne. Two walks in the inning for Soroka Nick York ground ball. That’s the third. Shaw goes to second, they get the out there and Soroka gets out of there to keep it a four run game here in the eighth Swanson with 16 steals on at first with two away. Dansby takes off throw is into center field. Swanson will get up and stay put. It’s a stolen base for Dansby Swanson swings and hits a top spin ball on the short and on the first very close play called out and the Cubs might challenge this. He was very close. That’s so interesting to see the , see them say, you know, he’s out but go ahead challenge this one is going to take too long after the order is on the mound trying to nail it down. It’s not a safe situation. Cubs leading 4 to 0. Need to get three on to bring the tying run up. Delivers Lowe here we go two on and one out o’neil Cruz representing the next two needed run on the ground to third and Shaw able to Cruz was thinking about trying to start a double play. There was going to be no shot of that and wisely took the out 3 to 2 coming trying to bring the tying run up here in the ninth ball. Four Hodge walks another on a single and two walks. The Pirates will bring the tying run up here in the ninth inning. It’s Jared Triolo coming to the plate and council is going to have to go get Porter Hodge and bring in Brand Keller, not what he wanted to. Two down bottom of the ninth inning. Pirates have the bases loaded now and Jared Triolo, the leadoff hitter will be the first man to face Keller and Keller hopes he’s the only man to face him swing and a miss struck him out ball game Cubs win and the magic number is down to three. Brad. Keller gets the save and the Cubs win game one of the series and game one of the road trip by a score of 4 to 0.

Hey, I’m the first view!
Go cubs!!!!!
Go Cubs!!
LETS FRICKING GO PETE
LETS GO CHICAGO CUBS
Excellent time to get hot Pete!
I remember Clemente's tragic death. Near the end of the 1972 season, the Pirates were out of contention and Clemente had just gotten his 3000th career hit. He asked if he could leave the team a few days before the end of the season to assist in relief efforts for earthquake victims in Nicaragua. The relief plan carrying Clemente and others crashed. His body was never found.
Six walks issued by Cubs' pitching. Against a better team, that would be a problem. Hodge has a 5.81 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP. I don't see him on the post-season roster.
Nico Hoerner's BA by position in the line-up:
Batting 1st: .310
2nd: .375
5th: .294
6th: .283
7th: .326
8th: .278
PCA breaking out of his slump right before the playoffs is just what the doctor ordered.
Let’s go Cubs fly the W 🎉
Rest In Peace to a great Cubs fan, Charlie Kirk. We love and miss you. ❤😢❤🇺🇸🇺🇸
Bears SUCK, but the Cubs are going DEEP. I just know it! Chicago sports is such an emotional roller-coaster!
notice michael busch rounding first scratches his belly… calling ashcraft a belly itcher
Taiillon💪💪GO CUBBIES FLY W….
Gloves look different from when I played as a kid. We never thought of using hockey gloves for batting, or oven mitts for running the bases. It just looks strange….
If Pete gets going, watch out boys. Just saying. GCG!
Nico Hoerner should be batting 1st or 2nd in the lineup… EVERY game
I noticed a lot of the throws to first are short and the first baseman has to make a great catch. It happens in every game. Just shows that your first baseman is better than youd think.
