MLB Network | Houston Astros are DONE – Mark Derosa reacts to Yordan Alvarez leaves game with injury

And your American League standings look like this. So, the Mariners, they were off yesterday. Remember, they go to Houston a little bit later this week. The Rangers and Astros continue their series. Uh Mariners are on the road in Kansas City. Logan Gilbert, Michael Waka. That is your pitching matchup today. But let’s go back to Houston here from Zack Cole after his two big knocks. Uh just trying to do whatever it takes to uh move the runners, you know, keep the inning going. I have a lot of really good hitters behind me. Uh not trying to do too much. I was fortunate enough to get a pitch that I connected with and uh I’m very blessed. I was a fast ball well executed. Lighter put that pitch where he wanted to and this kid just put an a swing on it. U even the ground ball hit up the middle with two strikes, you know, he hit that 112. Like he continues to do things that u shows that he’s well prepared. the the stage is not facing him and I mean I got to give him credit because we are in the middle of a of a race and this kid showing up showing up big time. Congrats to Zack Robert. The win came with a major loss or Don seen leaving the Astros clubhouse on a crutch and with a boot on his left foot. You think about the void that and they’ve dealt without him for a long time already this year. He literally had a boot on in the silver boot series. That just shows how much it means to him. But my gosh, you hope that this is not for a long time. But it did not look good. Joe Espatada said, “What do you make of it all, D?” I mean, it it looked bad. It looked bad. It brought me right back to Freddy last year. That’s a good comparison. Freddy dealt with that the entire postseason. Probably didn’t let on and beyond. Yeah, exactly. Had eventually had to have surgery on it. So, let’s hope he’s all right. I was fixated on this game and then the late games, the Giants, the Snakes, Phillies Dodgers. I was being thoroughly disgusted watching the Houston Texans cough up a lead while watching the Astros. You got work to do, but they fly around and like to hit. I’ll give the Texans that. Wildly undisiplined. Yes. Wildly undisiplined. And can you use your timeouts? No. I digress. Carry them over to the next game. I I digress. But I was also fixated on the silver boot. And two years ago, we did the silver boot saloon. an awesome mockup with Dusty Baker and Bruce Bochi. And normally the the the usual suspects show up. The Yordons of the world, the the native Seager. Exactly. Not the case. Last night on both sides, we had some new customers show up to the saloon. So, I want to honor them. Here we go. Robert, we got the tumble weed flying by. And Bruce Boon is showing up looking like, is that a cowboy? I don’t know. He’s up to no good. But they showed up a spot and remember there was bad blood. There’s been occasional bad blood in this series. He’s drilled Yordon. From gone back at Adolles Garcia and Marcus Simeon. We’ve had a little bit of back and forth, but it seemed like they got along well last night and just wanted to play some country hard ball. First guy who showed up, I got to give love cuz he looked like we were going to have to kick him out early because he slipped at the bar. I thought he was schnockered and we might have to ask him to leave early. Not the case. Hey Jack Lighter, I know you walked away a loser in this game. You bear down and gave this team and pitched into the seventh inning 102 pitches. You got nothing to hang your Yes. Nothing to hang your head about last night’s performance. How about Josh Smith giving them the lead? Quality at bats all night. He’s got nine homers, 34 RBI’s. He started at seven different positions this year for this team and has got north of a three war makes him the fourth most valuable position player on the Rangers. I know this is Cory Seager and Marcus Simeon’s team, but why do I feel like Wyatt Langford slowly becoming the captain of the Rangers team moving forward? He’s tied for sixth among outfielders in defensive run saved this season. He threw out two knocks last night and since July 8th, he’s got a 390 on base percentage. I’m going to flip it to the Astros. I know Pñena is a World Series MVP. He’s also dominant at home. He’s hitting .344 with a 927 OPS at Dyken Park this year. He was phenomenal again last night. Jason Alexander, I don’t know if he could mix his way through a lineup three times with the fast ball change up sweeper combo, but Robert, early in this game, he was really good for this team. a 276 erra since joining Houston on June 17th. That’s the 16th best in Major League Baseball since that date. And he has got a feel for a dead fish. My man Steven Ogre came in out of the bullpen last night. Watch him take apart Jock Peterson in the fifth. A little get me over breaking ball. Let me see if you’ll fish a little further out. Now I’m going to land a tunnneled heater right off it. You think another heater’s coming? Nope. I’m going to take you a little bit further outside. Classic left-on left matchup that Steven Ogurt was awesome in. He’s been really good. How about Brian King? Really good. He came in and gave him multiple innings last night. A 2.53 erra in 64 innings pitched this season. He’s better against righties than he is lefties, which is crazy. The OPS against right-handers, 544 against lefties in 816. But it’s nickel and diamond back and forth. Yordon hurts his ankle. Who comes in? Zack Cole. Yeah. And puts together quality abs. Six for 13, two homers, seven RBI’s in first four career games. He was ranked a 19th prospect in the Astro system. This wasn’t a can’t miss guy. just different guys showed up to the saloon last night and are making a massive impact in how this thing’s going to end. Uh Rangers Astros continue the series tonight. Mel Kelly, AJ Blue Ball, that is the pitching matchup. Now they’re think there’s there’s a some talk that maybe Isach Pedes could come back and play DH for the Astros later in the week. So we’ll have to keep an eye certainly on that. And you only respect the silver boot when it fits your narrative. Exactly. Otherwise, we know how you feel. We were dive we were dialed in on it last night. Altuve was making plays at second, too. Yeah, he made a good play. Good double play there. Jesus Sanchez filled in for Alvarez and threw out a potential game tying run. Uh this is for all of you, all the staff, the guys that we’ve left behind. Wheeler, Alvarado, Trey, Romano, they couldn’t be here. the guys that have come up from Lehigh Valley and helped us out. This is a great team effort. Great team effort. Back to back National League East champions. Doesn’t have to off. How many we got left, buddy? Whatever the hell it takes. [Applause] Yeah, we’re going to show you how the Phillies were able to best the Dodgers last night. Uh but that was that was some game and it had that it had that postseason feel. You could feel it through the uh through whatever device you were watching. You ever been in a champagne shower? Uh the Oh, champagne shower. I thought you said champagne room. Soon as it came out my mouth, I wanted to pull it back. I I neither. You can’t ask Robert questions like that. Lauren, it was so innocently asked, too. No. Why? Why would I ever have a champagne shower? I’ve never Lauren goes in after the World Series every time it gets in. You’ve been in the mix. Yes, I’ve been in the mix. I’ve been spraying. Well, that doesn’t sound Don’t wear fake eyelashes. Move this conversation. Let’s just move on. Start over. Yeah. Here we go. Here we go. Wake it up, America. Silver boot on the line. Wake up call. Our top story. Our literal literal top story. Rangers Astros. Here we go. Bottom of the first. Jack Lighter’s defense, it was not great, but Jack Lighter pitched very, very well after the Astros scored two runs on this error. But Dro, it’s a costly text you immediately. You couldn’t tell right there. We knew he slipped once they went to this slow-mo. Man, if this doesn’t bring back Freddy Freeman from last year having to deal with it during the postseason for the Dodgers. Yeah, and that is a potentially crucial blow. Fifth inning. Jason Alexand Alexander was cruising. Yeah. Until Josh Young gets him here. Ties the game at two. So later in the inning, man in scoring position for Josh Smith. How good has he been? Consistently player picking it at shortstop for the Rangers. Plays all over the diamond. Big knock right there to give him the lead. Okay, so Zack Cole, the rookie, he replaced Yordon Alvarez in the lineup and he gets Jack Lighter on a one-two high fast. His second home run in like four games and that gives the Astros a 4-3 lead. But Jack pitch pitched very well. Pitched into the seventh inning. Here Cole again comes through with a knock. Three RBI’s. He’s six for 13, seven RBI’s in four major league games. The Astros win six to three.
