Braves vs. Nationals Game 2 Highlights (9/16/25) | MLB Highlights
One game down today, one to go. And at least for now, the rain has stopped in Southeast DC. The tarp is off the field at Nationals Park. John Turnour and company doing some pretty intense work on the infield. I would imagine that contact might be a key part of tonight’s game when you got Mackenzie Gore and Chris Sale matching up. These guys, two of the premier strikeout guys around baseball among lefties last few years. Well, for Mackenzie Gore, the 29th start on the season for him. Second start back since his return from the IIL. So, it’s nice to see him on this one. Exactly a 2-hour rain delay. Finally, game two, the double header. Braves won game one, six to three. Proar in the series. Couple of hits, a homer. Profar puts it in play. He’s got a hit. A single to left field for Juriken Proar. It’s an impressive at bat, but he’s had so many at bats, especially in this series where he’s fouling off tough pitches, going deep in counts. I just missed that smile in my face after he just hit that ball past me. Nope. Uh, I should have caught it, but I don’t know why I didn’t. Third hit of the series for Proar. And now here is Matt Olsen, who has been hitting everything coming his way as of late. And in this series, six for 10. Two homers, three doubles as well. Eddie jacks one to left in the air, staying up, and circling right in front of the wall as Dale Lyall to make a very fine play. Nothing routine this afternoon or tonight. One down. Here’s Ronald Akuna and Mackenzie Gourd. Not the quick kind of inning you’re looking for at least so far. One pitch away from getting out of it, but twoon one out. Azie Albies super aggressive against lefties, especially early in the counts. This one flirting with the right field line. A long way for Dylan Cruz. He’ll get there in plenty of time. Two down for Ozuna. Runners will take off here. Runners at first and second. Breaking ball. Oh man, what a nailed that one. Base is loaded. Harris has hit two homers in his career versus Gore. Swinging a ground ball right side and to his left the Young the outfield grass but Gore racing to cover and he gets there just in time. Wow. Because Andre Taparo took off after the ball and he was not going to get back in time but McKenzie does his job. The lefty Chris Sale making his 19th start of the year. Chris 661 180 the lefty from Lakeland Florida. Nasim Nunees in the leadoff spot for the first time this year. Switch hitter batting right-handed getting the start with CJ Abrams sitting in game two. Fast ball right up the middle. It goes Nazim Nunes. This guy has a way of making an impact on any game in which he plays. Nunes on the move. Pitch outside. Throw is outside to second as well. Give me that. That’s mine. I used to love watching you play, bro, when I was younger. Not to make you feel old or anything, but just a little bit. Bill did not play in game one. The DH in game two. Switch inning 231. 13 doubles. A triple and the fast ball’s going to get him. Fast ball 95 on the inside corner. Sail has his first strike out. The second out of the inning, leaving it up to the National’s hottest hitter, Dalon Lyall. Bounces that a high chopper to first. He runs well, but Sale is able to get him by a half a step. He’s out. The inning’s over. 3-1 put out. Good play by the goal glover Olsen. Sandy Leyon one for five on the year. Homer, three RBI’s in three games. Leon hits a highf fly ball up into the rain deep to left field at the wall. A leap and a grab by Dalon Lyall. I think if he hits that earlier today, it’s out of here. But right now, amongst all this rain, couldn’t quite get enough juice behind him. Leaping catch looking up in the rain. What a play. It’ll be his third walk. Kakuna twice. So Miguel Cairo taking the ball from McKenzie Gore. So he will leave here with one out in the sixth inning again. And so he will leave a tie game. Nothing nothing in the sixth inning with one out and one on. 59th game here for Jackson Ridge as is under one out walk. Mackenzie Gore gets a scoreless five and a third. The way Chris Hale is going, I think Snit’s just trying to get one. There’s been one start this season where he’s worked beyond seven innings. I think Snip probably gives him one more batter a chance to finish this inning. Hopefully the Braves could get him a run, try to get him a win, but you’d like to see it. It’s been, you know, Chris Sale wants it. Now the number nine hitter, Jacob Young. S’s got a chance at another strike out. 0 and two. Got him looking. Strike three. Used a slider. That milliondoll pitch looking sharp as ever. No score. Bottom of the ninth inning. But we are going to get a pinch hitter for Adams. It’s going to be Luis Garcia Jr. He’s trying to drive in Dylan Cruz to win this game here in the ninth. Garcia to right center. Akuna is back. Reaches up and makes the catch and the ball game continues to save the game for Atlanta. At least for now. Ronald Akuna save of the day with a leaping catch of the wall in right field. He denies the Nationals and we play on. Get up on that wall and pull it down. And we’re going to extras here on double header day. What a game this has been. So many opportunities to win really for both sides as Mason Thompson comes in. 13th bullpen appearance. Like we’re going to see Drake Baldwin for the first time tonight. Baldwin rips this. Cruz back. It’s over his head. Harris is coming around third. And the Braves have the first run of the game in the top of the tenth. RBI double by Drake Baldwin. And there’s the game’s first tally. It’s one- nothing Braves in the 10th. Baldwin shocked that over the head of Cruz into the base of the wall in right field. Kim is at first. Baldwin is at third. Count has run full on Proofar. 3-2. Check swing. They appeal. Ball four. That’ll load him up. Now they are loaded for Olsen. You’re going to need some kind of strategy here to get Matt Olsen out. Well, this is a chance for a potential knockout blow right here. We’ll see what happens in the bottom of the inning. This has been a night where runs have been so hard to come by. Braves had a missed opportunity way back in the first inning. Had him loaded, didn’t score. And here in the 10th inning, they’ve driven in one run, but they are loaded with one down for Olsen, who’s homered in four straight games. And he sends one down the right field line. He sizzles one into the corner. And here we go. Baldwin, Kim, Profar. They all score. It’s a triple by Olsen. Bases clearing triple by Matt Olsen. He’s doing everything here in Washington. Make it 4 nothing Braves here in the 10th. Azie looking to add to this big top of the tenth for Atlanta. Line to right. Matt Olsen will tag and five runs now in the top of the tenth for Atlanta. Brady House 0 for three tonight. Ball maybe out of the zone. Popped up right side. Olsen into the rail after making a fabulous play in enemy territory. The guy who never takes a day off. Could probably use one tomorrow. Great play here by Nson. He is so great with the glove on these fly balls in particular. That’s down to their final out. Braves have a five nothing lead in the bottom of the 10th. Brown ball a third. Bruhan secures. He sends it over and the Braves win both games in the double header. We played for over 10 hours. 10 and 1/2 hours of baseball. Of course, the downtime in between games, but from the start of game one to the last pitch of game two. Long day, but a good day for the Braves. Weathered the rain, the win, and the Nationals. and win the final game of the double header by a final score of five to nothing in 10 innings.

I started to get a bit nervous when it went into extra innings, but luckily it worked out in our favor! Chop on, Braves Country!

🎉 oh yeah 👍🏼 way 2 go braves ⚾🧢
Where has this team been all year?
Great win boys!
I'll never get tired of watching Chris Sale pitch
This is one of those games might have went 18 innings without having that ghost runner on.
Please get rid of the fake crowd noise next time. I know there was like 16 people there, but this isn't 2020.
Anyway, GO BRAVES!!
Like I always say, here's the ROY.
