Sad news everyone.
The Steelers audio network has taken another hit.
Lost too many people in the past several years.

  1. Jesus christ I was just about to tweet at him asking if he was ok.

    This is fucking horrible.

First Tunch, then Wolf, now Dale? Fucking hell.

  2. Damn, RIP.

We’re completely in a new era of Steelers talk now.

Gone are: Cope, Tunch, Wolf, ~~Labs~~, Hillgrove retired.

The new guys just don’t have the same passion.

  3. Dude wtf I was just wondering to myself where he had been cause I haven’t seen him on the drive with Matt (haven’t listened in a couple weeks and just saw thumbnails). That’s horrible man RIP

  4. Man that’s tough I’ve been waiting to hear his voice again. His quote at the end of the article is poignant.

“It’s been a great run here, one I’ll always recall fondly. All apologies to George Harrison: ‘All things must pass. None of life’s strings can last. So, I must be on my way. And face another day.'”

  5. This is awful news. Loved the Drive for years. I knew Dale had vocal issues in the summer and also had a bout of pneumonia. Had no idea it was this bad because they kept dropping information that he would be back “any time now.”

    Just devastating. RIP Dale

  6. That’s really sad I was wondering what was going on as he’s not been doing any shows.

  7. Been wondering where he’s been. This is a sad day for Pittsburgh Steelers football and all his fans. RIP Dale

  8. Lolley was awesome. I remember when he used to have his Steelers nflonthesidelines blog in the early 2000’s and that was such a great read from Dale. I used to check his site daily.

One day, I think he was playing around with his portrait on the site and when I went to his page, his photo took up the entire screen. It looked like a memorial and I thought he passed back then. I messaged him and we both laughed about it and he fixed the sizing.

Thank you for your great work Dale!

  9. That sucks, he was so good at giving Matt interesting things to talk about and actually add some thought. This new guy sucks. It’s literally the easiest format possible, find a rankings online and read through with Matt.

  10. Wow. I had no idea. Last I heard on the drive several months back I thought he reported he was in remission. Terrible loss.

  11. Sad news. I really enjoyed listening to him and Matt on the Drive. He has been missed, and will continue to be missed. Prayers towards his family, RIP Dale.

  12. Damnit, this is messing me up. RIP Dale, you were a gateway to me expanding my knowledge and fandom.

  13. What a sad, sad story. My heart is with his family and friends. Also, good job by Labriola on writing that obituary.

  14. Damn. I really enjoyed his work. I was worried something was going on, (as were most listeners I think).

  15. This is so sad I really came around to liking Dale’s content and he was a true yinzer. Fuck cancer
Was just thinking about him this morning after listening to the most recent SNR and noticing they took off his name.

  16. Holy shit I had no idea he was ill, used to follow his website religiously before he got his new gig. Time flies, reach out to those who matter most.

  17. Man I’ll always remember reading his blog as a kid, best way to stay in tune to the team back then

  18. So sad to hear. I loved listening to Dale. I feel bad for Matt Williamson. He lost Wolf not too long ago and now Dale.

I hadn’t heard Dale on SNR Drive for the last month and I might’ve missed an episode where they covered him being out to rest after he had to deal with pneumonia.

    RIP Dale

  19. Well that fucking sucks. Dale has been one of my main follows over the years.

Who else remembers his wordpress “NFL from the sidelines” blog from back in the early Tomlin days? Required reading.

  20. This is the third person today I’ve heard of who passed from Cancer in their 50’s. Damn. Sad to hear about this.
