The choke alert is at an all-time high. The Detroit Tigers lose again to the Cleveland Guardians. Cleveland’s taking the first two games of this series. I for one am panicked. Welcome into a live locked on Tigers postcast. I am your host Jake Rema. You can follow me on Twitter, Jake_Rma. This team might stink. They just might stink. The Detroit Tigers. In fact, I feel like Denny Green, the late Denny Green, may he rest in peace. They are who we thought they were. This team might stink. No life tonight from the Tigers. They’re shut out, four hits. We’ll go over it all, try to figure out a way they can salvage the finale with TK Scubble on the mount. And of course, we’ll have our biggest talking point, our turning point, and our player of the game. It’s all next right now. All we can do is like today’s video and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. Would mean a great deal. Help us out quite a bit because Lord knows we need it. This is your Lockdown Tigers postgame show. Free and available wherever you get your podcast and of course on YouTube. all part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team each and every day. Do me a favor and tell a friend about the Lockdown Tigers postcast and check out the daily show with Scott Bentley on Lockdown Tigers. Now, as always, your comments are welcome because hopefully you’re as frustrated or maybe not even frustrated. Last night was frustrating. Tonight was demoralizing and I think that’s where I’m at with this team. and not good. As we enter the most crucial point of the season and the Tigers are playing their worst baseball of the year, we begin where we always do, our biggest talking point. How would you tell this game to a friend? This is what you’ll be talking about. As I mentioned, meltdown mode is on. And I’m going to try to avoid meltdowns on the locked on Tigers postcast because the Tigers are doing enough melting down for everybody. No offense, no life, 0 for8 with runners in scoring position, four hits, and the inability to win an important game with not quite your back against the wall, but certainly at the juncture of the season where you need a gut check. You need to dig deep and figure out who this team is. And we’ve talked at length about this. Baseball’s a little bit different in this sense that you play every single day. It’s not like football where you play once a week or a couple times a week in basketball and hockey. But this team needs some kind of come to Jesus speech. And AJ Hinch has just never been that charismatic, fiery guy. And I’m not suggesting that it’s as simple as that. You scream at the guys and then they’ll go out there and play their best. But it feels like this team needs something. And AJ Hinch, the best manager in baseball and everything else, all the accolades he gets, if the Tigers continue at this trend and somehow cough up the division, it’ll go down as one of the most epic collapses, all-time chokes we’ve seen in the history of any sport in this city. And you look at where this team was at even before the All-Star game and and playing below 500 ball since the All-Star break and a double-digit lead well into August and for it to be down to four and a half games with still four games remaining against the Cleveland Guardians. The Seattle Mariners, I believe, if they win tonight, are a game back for that two seed. And you just I mean this team is plummeting at an all-time pace. And I know I’m pointing out the obvious, but my oh my, it just couldn’t come at a worse time. And it feels very similar to how the Tigers had that losing streak where they won one of 12 and then proceeded to do something similar in back-to-back stretches there through the month of July. So I’m at a loss, you’re at a loss, and the Tigers, that’s all they do is lose lose news. Now, one bright spot, Jack Flity, really good tonight. And that might just be his ceiling. Five innings, just the one earned run, but that’s giving your team a chance to win. He struck out four, he walked four. He gets picked hit with the tough luck loss. He’s eight and 14. Not that that matters, but he did enough to give your team an opportunity to win tonight. And that’s all you can ask from Jack Flity. Bullpen not great. Once again, you look at who gave up runs. Well, of course with the one earned run, it’s Herder and Kanely okay in one inning and then your quarterty gives up the two runs in the ninth inning. However, I’m here to say with the offense being as brutally bad as they were, I don’t know how much. Obviously, the guards scoring two runs in the top of the ninth take the wind out of the sales and almost eliminate completely the thought of coming back, but this game was lost far before that. The comments are piling up. I’ll do my best to filter through them because this is a collaborative program here on the Lockdown Tigers postcast, even if there’s nothing really exciting to collaborate about. Demetrius McNeel, one of our everydayers. Shout out to the Everydayers. We appreciate you. He said, “Jake, this is trouble. Four hits 0 for four or 0 for eight with men in scoring position and it’s my first loss at Com Park. This collapse and it’s and it’s gets come back next game.” Okay. Sorry, Demetrius, you were at the game and unable to bring him home. You’ve been so good this year when you’re at the game. So, that is unfortunate. I agree with Noah Murray here. I kind of alluded to it in a sarcastic way, but Noah Murray says, “I’m tired of Hinch always acting like the smartest guy in the room, making terrible moves that barely work. He gets a ton of credit when they do well and not nearly enough when they don’t.” I would agree. Um, I have my thoughts about AJ Hinch. He certainly has a distinct style. Scott Harris has a distinct style. They’re both the smartest men in the room. Just ask him. And I understand the confidence and the aura that you need to have in order to lead a baseball team and lead a clubhouse, but sometimes it just feels like they could do a little bit more to get the most out of guys. And I don’t, you know, I’m not in the clubhouse anymore. I’m not between the four walls and in atcom Erica Park repeatedly like some of the other beat writers. and hardworking folks that cover the team day in and day out. So, um you know that at to a certain extent I’m not able to speak to what that dynamic is like on a daytoday. Uh Thomas Rotandi none too pleased with Spencer Tolson. Yep. He’s he’s on the list. I know he had a good game last night with um a multi-hit game, but you go up and down this lineup and two hits for Parker Meadows. Other than that, just a lot of zeros. Carrie Carpenter one for three, Colt Keith one for three, and there are your four hits. So, just just lifeless again. And I understand you have nights like that, but it seems to always come at the worst time. Uh Jake Goodwin says, “The good start in the first half really got us over our heads. Too impatient at the plate.” That’s part of it. And you know, these guys uh these guys are big league ball players and they haven’t looked like it the last couple of nights. Cleveland looks like the more desperate team. They look like the hungrier team. They look like they’re the ones playing playoff baseball. You know, you you got the one instance where a runner on second just takes the extra base because they’re taking advantage of the Tigers just lolly gagging around. And that is so so hard to watch. And it just it feels it feels like you’re in quicksand. Like it’s just getting, you know, the the the loss and the collapse is getting closer and closer and you’re getting more and more helpless. And that’s how I feel watching this Tigers team completely helpless. All right. Um let’s go ahead and look ahead to the finale. We know TK’s on the bump. We’ll also do our biggest turning point and our player of the game. And that’s all on the other side right here on a live locked on Tigers Post Cast. Seattle is red-hot and gunning for that number two spot in the MLB playoffs. Hell, at this point, Tigers just trying to hold on to the American League Central. Let’s do our turning point. Time to reveal where the game was won or lost. It’s the turning point. I think you could pick at any point. The Tigers had a scoring threat and just couldn’t get that big hit. Um I mentioned the 0 for eight with runners in scoring position. That’s a big part of it and they leave eight guys on. Torres goes 0 for two with runners in scoring position. Andy Ianz who’s still in the lineup. Great. 0 for one with runners in scoring position. Riley Green 0 for two. Dylan Dingler 0 for one and Spencer Tolson over for two. So, um it feels like the blame game, but it’s really not. This entire team just not ready to play tonight. How about our player of the game? This is the locked on player of the game. You give it to the entire Guardians pitching staff. I mean, obviously Gavin Williams starting the game and uh pitching five scoreless to get the ball rolling for the Guardians. And from there, the bullpen just combines to go right through the Tigers cuz again, the four hits, sure, 0 for8 with runners in scoring position. Some opportunities there, but certainly not taking advantage of that. Okay, R1 VJ4 says Cleveland’s playing the championship ball. Tigers have no answer. That’s what it feels like. That’s exactly is what it feels like. So, all we can do is hope for the best with Tercoel on the bump tomorrow. And this comment here, um, I don’t think we can think like that. But at the same time, Terubel did leave his last start early. And as Nate Nate the Great points out, what if Scoo isn’t really healthy? And unfortunately, that’s something we’re also dealing with. And for what it’s worth, I don’t think they’d trot him out there if he wasn’t completely healthy and in the best spot. So, got to choose to believe that he’s good. And if not, um, no, we’re not even going to go there because he’s pitching tomorrow day game. Got to avoid the sweep and then you got three more at Cleveland later on. So, um, after the conclusion of Thursday’s game, the Guardians will come to town, I’m sorry, the Guardians will leave town, and the Atlanta Braves will come to town for the weekend. Then the Tigers go to Cleveland for three more against the Guardians beginning Tuesday night, September 23rd, and then they close out the season against the Boston Red Sox for the final three game series. So, not a lot to feel good about. another downer of a night because the Detroit Tigers are just really, really bad right now. And again, a lot of people are rightfully so upset. Um, I think back to those spirited episodes we had around the trade deadline where I just felt this team didn’t do nearly enough to put themselves in contention. You can look at other points throughout the course of this season where it felt like this team had that that team of destiny feel and it feels anything but that right now. And you could make the argument that’s when it’s most important is down the stretch and into the postseason because you can’t flip a switch. You can’t flip the switch. And unfortunately, I think um the Tigers are getting dangerously dangerously close to even if they do get into the postseason, which of course the they’re still four and a half game lead, but once you do, you’re just so down that teams are going to want to play the Tigers because they’ve been so bad post Allstar break. So, I’ll put it that way. And we will turn it around tomorrow day game. So, we’ll be on a little bit sooner. Terubo goes for the Detroit Tigers, making his first start since leaving last start early with left sore left side soreness. So, that being said, um, everybody get a good night’s sleep. We’ll bounce back and see if the Tigers can salvage a game before the home stand continues when the Braves come to town. So, Tigers Guardians, tomorrow afternoon will be on after that. Until then, have a wonderful rest of your night. Thanks so much as always for tuning in. I do appreciate it. Check out Lockdown Tigers with Scott Bentley. Make sure you like the channel and subscribe. See you tomorrow.

  1. Pitching was solid, but…man…13 strikeouts !!!! And MOST of those third strikes might as well be in another zip code !!! Also…not that it mattered…but I almost lost it when Hurter gave that runner (Kwan?) third base !!!!

  2. Guardians magic number is 15. Cleveland has to beat Detroit 4 times, otherwise Detroit decides, who wins the Division. Detroit has to beat Cleveland once, otherwise Cleveland decides who wins the Division.
