[Perry] Pop Douglas plans to ‘trust the process’ with Patriots after quiet day in Miami

  1. Pop Douglas to Phil Perry after seeing just one target against the Dolphins:

“For an athlete who loves the game, that part is frustrating, yeah. But, man, at the end of the day, I’m blessed. We got the dub. That would be very selfish of me to come in here angry after a win. I can’t be mad. We got the dub. I did play a little, but we came out with a divisional win.

“… I feel pretty good. I come into meetings, nothing negative with what’s going on with my routes and stuff like that. Coach is calling the plays as he sees it. When he sees, you know, ‘We gotta run this big package against this defense,’ you gotta stay focused and trust the process.”

  2. Pop Douglas and Keion White are two guys we hyped up very hard when our team had absolutely no other talent to get excited about.

At this point I’m pretty over them until they actually show something.

  3. He’s handling it well and gave a good answer but…guy is still a relatively unproven 6th round pick out of Liberty, he doesn’t really have much of a right to be upset about his lack of usage just yet lol (if he did)

  4. Bro went from 65 percent of the snaps in week one to 15 percent of the snaps in week two.

It’s clear that with Mack Hollins seeing the second most snaps out of any wide receiver on the Patriots (Boutte being number one), Josh McDaniels needs guys out there who can get nasty in the running game.

We’ve also moved to 12 personnel as our base offense, meaning we only have two receivers on the field most of the time. Since Boutte isn’t a great run blocker, it makes no sense to have Pop out there with him, as it limits the versatility of our offense in general.

Boutte, Hollins, Henry, Hooper, and Stevenson seem to be our base offense, with Diggs and Henderson rotating with those guys depending on the package.

  5. Love Pop, love his attitude, love what he CAN bring.

But he’s gotta be way more detailed. It’s not his fault, but his size leaves him little to no room for error. The guys like 5’8, even bigger disadvantage compared to guys like Edelman, Amendola, hell even Chism is 5’10.

If he can learn to sit in the perfect spots every time then he’ll succeed. If he can’t I don’t think the staff will trust him.

  6. I feel like Drake and him have never had good chemistry on the field idk if it’s his height and Drake needs bigger receivers

  7. I feel this is how JMD runs the offense. One week a player is featured. The next he doesn’t see the field

  8. It’s year 3 and he still doesn’t understand how a zone defense works or how to sit down in the soft spot. Josh has to be losing his mind watching him play.

Maybe Josh can teach him and get him to figure it out but until he does his snap count will remain low.

  9. A lot of Maye’s throws to Pop are high because he is a short receiver. He’s a hard target for him
