Uh today we’re going to be diving in through we’re going to be talking about Spencer Rattler, how he’s done over the the past couple of weeks before the big uh you know road test comes in. And then we’re going to be talking about who are some other players that we think could we see we could see a little bit more of. And then we’re going to get into the Seahawks game. We’re going to talk players to watch. We’re going to get to our game picks and bold predictions. Uh but first, this episode is brought to you by Mazda. Like our players, we sweat every detail because when you make every move count, pulling off the unexpected is only the beginning. Stay tuned for later uh for this high this week’s highlight. moving the game forward. Mazda, move and be moved. All right, guys. Let’s talk a little bit of Saints football. Spencer Rattler, it’s been through two weeks and I think now is a good time to take a step back before I think the toughest game of the season to this point, especially being on the road, his first game on the road this season. Let’s just take a take stock of where he’s at and uh let’s start off with John. Yeah, look, I’d say this first and foremost. I don’t think they’ve he’s done anything that has lost the Saints a game this year. I think he’s played extremely well all things considered. Uh especially this last game against the 49ers. I was very encouraged uh and what I saw out of Spencer Rattler. Now look, we already know there’s going to be some missed opportunities. The one to L in the end zone, that’s obviously missed hook up there. Few things, you know, he didn’t get helped out by some of the receivers earlier. balls that hit you right there in the the hands like with Tajan, he’s got to catch that. I mean, we know certain things like that, but I think he made up for it later. But look, I think Rattler making some really good decisions with his legs and and taking off and all that other good stuff. So, I’m really encouraged by what I’ve seen with Spencer Rattler. But I’m also not that surprised, guys. I’ve been talking about Spencer Rattler for months. He was the guy that was going to make the leap and and I’m not crowning him. I don’t think that there’s anything that says, “Yeah, the Saints have found their permanent starter for the rest of the the the season and beyond and all that other good stuff. He’s going to have an interesting road test against the Seahawks, but he’s played in a hostile environment. He was playing prime time game against the Packers. I know it sucked. It didn’t do well. Seattle’s a different animal, but you know what I’m saying? It’s not like he’s going into his first road game big test or anything like he’s he’s played that.” And so I’ve been encouraged by what Spencer Rutler’s been able to do. The stats back it up and I don’t see what people should give him a hard time for anything really. Yeah. Yeah. Lance, what do you what do you think about where uh Rattler stands through his first couple of starts of the season? I I mean, look, I think he’s in a good spot. Um I think this is this is even better, honestly, than than what I expected for for the first two weeks of the season. Obviously, you’d love your quarterback to throw for over 300 yards and three or four touchdowns every single week, but the reality is most quarterbacks aren’t doing that. So, why would we expect our basically semi- rookie quarterback to be doing that? I mean, I know he’s got eight starts now under his belt, but I would say this last game against the 49ers was his best outing yet. um as far as the plays that he was able to make, the consistency, obviously the three touchdown passes that he had, and he continues to take care of the football. That’s the thing to me that is the most important thing for him, even beyond the yards and the touchdowns, making sure that the New Orleans Saints maintain possession of the football after every single time the the football touches his hands. Like, for him to continue to improve, right, from week one to week two, he got better. That’s the goal each and every week. So hopefully this week in Seattle, he has an even better out. I don’t think that’s going to be easy because like John alluded to, Seattle is the real deal now as far as the the home field advantage, the crowd environment, the noise. The operation is going to be, I would imagine, almost totally in silent count. like because you I I played several games out there against really really good Seattle teams and teams that really weren’t that good and it didn’t matter. That fan base is is wild and so it’s so loud that you can barely hear inside the huddle. So imagine a receiver on the outside trying to hear a snap count. So I’m sure that’s this is going to be the first time that it’s going to be primarily silent snap count for Spencer Rattler. So, that’s another level of of coaching and and preparation that they’re going to have to put into this week. But, um, he’s shown that he’s up to every challenge. So, I don’t I don’t see this as like, oh my gosh, my young quarterback is going into a hostile environment. He’s not going to be able to handle it. He’ll be able to handle it. It’s just going to offer another challenge to this offense to to that needs to take the next step as far as being able to score more points. um be consistent in scoring touchdowns and then obviously giving their defense a chance to rest longer than they have the first couple of games. I think that’s important as well. But overall, I’m I’m liking what I’m seeing from him. And the thing that’s most exciting to me is the improvement from week one to week two. Yeah. Yeah. Ross, give us your thoughts on Spencer Rattler so far this season. Yeah, I am really, really impressed with what we’ve seen from Spencer Rattler so far from his ability to operate that pre- snap operation of Kell Moores, which Lance, I think you might be able to attest to this watching the game. It’s not like the play calls might not be long, but they do a lot of work at the line of scrimmage. It feels like of moving pieces around, motion, they come out in one look, shift to another look. It’s not a change. It’s just part of how it is they operate it. Um, so he’s done a very good job there. He’s done a very good job with his decisiveness and how quickly he’s getting the ball out. Right now, the only two quarterbacks in the NFL that have gotten the ball out of their hands faster than Spencer Rattler are Aaron Rogers and Matthew Stafford. U, they get the ball out very, very quickly. I think it’s more about there only being two quarterbacks that get the ball out quicker than him than who those names necessarily are. But those are obviously aging quarterbacks that they want to get the ball out of very, you know, get the ball out of their hands very quickly. and Spencer Ratley is getting the ball out of his his hands almost as quickly as those guys. Um, and I think he’s done a very good job of just making good decisions. Uh, Robert Salah before Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers talked about Spencer Rattler in his press conference where he said that he would be household by the end of the year, meaning that he would be a household name by the end of the season. And then Spencer Rattler came out and had his best performance, careerhigh, best best pro career performance, excuse me. U careerhigh in completion percentage, career high in passer rating, careerhigh in uh completions, uh consecutive completions, career high in touchdowns, his first multi touchdown game as well. Um and so I’m very very impressed with what we’ve seen from him. I think that these next two games, Seattle on the road and then Buffalo on the road, and look, Buffalo’s defense is like okay right now early on in the season. like what’s been real the real story of Buffalo so far has been the the offense, but that that defense is going to be one game better by the time that Spencer Rattler gets out there to Buffalo. And so these are two formidable tests to kind of figure out like what the barometer I guess barometer read might be on his development. But I am uniquely impressed with what we’ve seen from him over the course of let’s just say the transition from 2024 into the second year of his career here in 2025. It’s already gotten to a point to where I think that we look at a at a Bills game, we look at a Seahawks game and I don’t go, man, if only the Saints had a better quarterback, they might could win this game. I I don’t think that that’s really what’s keeping me from thinking, man, the Saints are really going to be in this one. I and I think that’s a testament to Spencer Rattler because coming into the season, whether it be Rattler, whether it be Shook, I would I really did feel like through these first couple of games, we might just look at it and be like, man, if this this isn’t the year because the Saints don’t really know what they’re doing at quarterback, they don’t have an experienced person at quarterback. But Rattler has done a fine job of of leading the team so far. I I want to talk about this a little bit just because I feel like a lot of people are like, “Man, uh he could just be the next Baker Mayfield in ter but I feel like some people think that Baker Mayfield scores touchdowns with Aura.” Uh if Baker Mayfield He kind of does. He kind of does. Like let’s be real. Let’s be real. Baker is also just a really good quarterback. So just because RER is a little bit can be a little bit more feisty uh off the field uh we you know you want to see a little bit more of that leadership on the field and I think it it comes through at times and that is an interesting part to his game but I also do think that he just he also still needs to progress and I feel like it’s important to to think about that he hasn’t been perfect throughout these two couple of weeks. Um, but I’m interested and I’m encouraged about where the offense looks, what the offense looks like with him under center so far. Yeah. And even like the tempo that they operate with and everything like that. Like this is not a simple def, excuse me, offense to orchestrate and everything. And so him coming out and having performances like this and a really kind of challenging, mentally challenging offense, I do think is a testament or at least a like positive start in terms of the trajectory of what he has ahead of him here for the 2025 season. And yeah, I mean you go back to what Kell Mo had talked about like even at beginning that they simplified the language for the entire offense. I mean, you going into this season, you knew that there can be some bumps and bruises, no matter who they started at quarterback. But with Rattler, the way he’s been able to come in and kind of take control. I mean, this started a long time ago when the Derek Carr stuff was going on before he hung it up and such, but I just that stuff matters. And everybody wanted to downplay the the results or this 0 and6 and all the other stuff that he did last year, but he got game experience and that counted for something. So I again I’m not really that shocked and surprised that Rattler has played pretty well, but there again there are other problems with the Saints right now than to worry about it. And Rattler, I don’t think is one of them. Yeah. Well, I I also think there’s another level for him to to I guess unlock. Yeah. Right. I agree. and and and sure it’s it’s the command of the offense and and starting to kind of play with that Baker Mayfield like swagger or confidence, but something just that I have yet to see at least consistently is the downfield passing game. Just imagine how much better this offense is going to look and how much easier it’s going to be for this offense to score points. I’m not gonna say just touchdowns, but score points overall because our kickers got to get it together and start making kicks, too. But like if we can make drives shorter, as in the number of plays that were out there, if we can have quick hitters and big- time deep throws that turn out to be touchdowns, that just makes his life as a quarterback much easier. And and the great teams are the ones or the great offenses, I should say, are the ones that can do it all. that can run the ball some that have the short and intermediate screen game, but oh by the way, you better watch out because it can be bombs away on you, too. Like, I’m thinking the Green Bay Packers. Like, when you watch them play offense, they literally do everything. And so, it it really makes them hard to defend. And I’m not trying to compare Spencer Rattler to Jordan Love, right? Because Jordan Love has been the guy for a little while, one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league, and for good reason. Um, but that offense when you watch them play, it’s like look, they got a bunch of receivers. They got some good backs and and they are consistent in in the fact that they can do a bunch of different things whenever they want to. I I think that’s should be like the level that this should this offense should aspire to be. Um, but if if we don’t at least start taking shots regularly, I’m not talking about one downfield throw in in the entirety of the game. I’m talking about like one a quarter, like, you know, at least at least one a half where you’re you’re at least making defensive coordinators think, “Oh, no.” Like, we can’t give that up. You know, it would just make their job as an offense easier and unlock another level to me in the potential of Spencer Ratley because he can throw those deep balls. He just doesn’t get an opportunity to do it much. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, uh, we talked a little bit about Spencer Rattler. Uh, and I think that overall we’re we’re all on a pretty good pretty good wavelength and pretty good feeling about him through two weeks. There’s definitely no one uh that has watched this team and been like, “All right, well, they just need to get Chuck in there.” And I think that through two weeks with with how well, you know, there’s always no one sensibly is making that suggestion. Exactly. Not standard. Yeah. Yeah. There’s still there’s still people that want the Saints to start shad tomorrow. Uh so I don’t think that’s going to happen. So um but uh there are some Saints players who we think should we should see a little bit more of, but it makes a little bit more sense than Tyler Shuck. and we’re gonna talk about that coming up next. The NFL season is here and FanDuel is making sure you’re ready for a kickoff with a can’tmiss offer. Guys, I have to be honest with you and I don’t know the the ethics of this, but my banker asked me for a parlay advice and you know what I told her? Right now, new customers can bet just $5. And if your bet wins, you’ll get $300 in bonus bets to use across the app on FanDuel. It makes every game more exciting, so you can have some fun no matter who is on the screen. The Saints don’t have any prime time games this year, so you’ll need something to root for uh in, you know, a lot of time slots throughout the year. I also like to use it to help set my fantasy lineups each week. I, you know, of of course I make the wrong decision and start someone with my gut, but the people who make these lines know a lot more than I do. So, I like to also take their advice into consideration. So, are you ready to play? Download the FanDuel app now by visiting fanduel.com to get started. That’s fanduel.com uh to place your first $5 bet to win $300 in bonus bets if it wins. All right, let’s uh let’s get into uh some players we want to see a little bit more of. I I framed this question to y’all before the show, guys. All right, these are these are players you want to see uh unfolded a little more. I just gave two of them in our rundown because I figured those are two names I know we’re going to hear in this segment. And uh so I’m going to start off with one of them be by starting off with Lance. Why don’t you kick us off with the player you want to see involved more often? Do you want me to use one of the two players in your I mean I mean whoever you want. Whoever you want. I assumed you would have one. Lance I did have one coming into the show and I was literally just two seconds ago looking at the the offensive stats because you know me I’m an offensive guy. Yeah. But to to think that we’re two games into the season and Rasheed Shahed has 85 receiving yards, right? I I mean like I get it like the offense has not super clicked or been world beaters yet, but I I would have thought based on the training camp, the preseason that Rasheed Shahid and Spencer Ratler together even had that it would have gotten started a lot quicker, I guess. Um it’s not to say he hasn’t been involved. He’s got 10 catches, that’s five catches a game. I mean like just do the math. Like that’s a great season, but but 85 yards for a guy that consistently has been, you know, 15 16 17 yards for his career per per catch. I mean, like I I don’t I don’t like it. I just don’t I I think that sure get him the ball as as often as possible, but don’t like take away what a major part of his game and and what to me makes him a great player is his ability to stretch the field and make those down the field catches. And obviously that, you know, relates to what I was talking about in the last segment about the the vertical passing game just not being there yet. Um, but I it’s just it’s it’s confusing to me that we just aren’t doing it often because we we talked all offseason about the speed at the wide receiver position. We just are not taking the shots that I think are necessary for a team that has the dudes like Yeah. Like you go in a game plan, you’re like, “Okay, that’s a dude. That’s a dude.” Like we have to watch those guys because they will run by us and you know, as our old receiver coach in New Orleans, CJ Johnson, always used to say, it’s cancel Christmas because those guys can can ruin your your plan as a as a defensive coordinator, you know, and it it’s not easy. Like I’m I’m talking about it and and it probably sounds like it’s easy like throw a deep ball. Like you know there’s no problem there. Like there has to be the look for it clearly. Like you’re not throwing go balls into cover two defenses. Um you your offensive guy has to win. He has to beat the defender that’s covering him or the defense that they’re using to defend him. Um, the quarter quarterback has to get protection clearly and the quarterback has to deliver a ball that is somewhere near target. I’m not like that like this is the NFL. The balls don’t have to always be perfect. It just has to be in an area that the receiver can go and make a play for. So, I want to see more Rasheed Shahed in the action both in just getting the ball in his hands, whether that’s the quick game, the screen game, the the the uh handoffs to the receiver, or the downfield throws. I just don’t feel like he’s as been as big a part of the offense as we all thought that he would be going into 2025. I’m gonna Can I’m gonna ask you a stupid question, Lance, just because I I genuinely don’t know the answer to it. Um, a lot of the times over the course last couple of weeks, like the coaches and things like that, when we’ve asked about the deep ball, they’ve talked about like, well, the what the defense has been playing has kind of taken away those options and things like that. Is there a value, and I’m going to word this super stupid, but is there a value in just doing it anyway? Like I I know that there’s like risk involved and all those other things, but like is there is there value in like just saying, you know what, I’m going to give the receiver a a chance to win, or is that something you don’t necessarily want to see from a rookie quarterback? No, no, no. I I there is absolutely value in that with the right look, right? Like, so it it can’t be, okay, here we are, we’re backed up, it’s second and 14, it’s third and 11. Those are obvious passing downs and a lot of times teams are going to be in too high defenses. Too high two safeties back deep. You’re not throwing long bombs against cover two defenses because right the safety’s job is to be as deep as the deepest. Play everything from the top down. So if you’re running a go route on the outside, you’re not throwing that ball because the safety’s right there to make a play. You’re not throwing a post route because one of those two safeties can see, okay, they’re running a post. let me stay in the post and make a play. So, there’s value in in if you’re going to do it just to keep the defense off balance, you do it on early downs or you do it on second and third and shorts, right? when it’s not quite as expected that it’s going to be a passing down because because I would imagine he’s been calling shot plays. We call them shot plays when we’ve been backed up on on, you know, behind the chain situations. Here we are, it’s third and 14. Well, we’re not going to be able to throw that shot. We’re probably gonna have to check it down. Then they’re going to come up and make the tackle. Now we’re off the field because we’re punting, right? So there is absolutely value in the threat of having a deep passing game, but you have to do it. You have to do it and you can’t wait until it’s an obvious passing down in distance with the said defenses who defend those down and distances. You you’re just you’re trying to hit your head up against the wall if you’re waiting until that timing to to try to throw those shot plays. Cool. Thank you. Yeah. And to Lance’s point, three teams in the NFL right now have eight passing attempts or more uh of 30 or more air yards. So targeting 30 yards down from the line of scrimmage. The Saints right now sit at two two such attempts 30 yards or more. And obviously one of those was complete to Rashid Shahid last week and everything, but you know, so so you’re you’re one of two right now. So that’s a that to me feels like a good opportunity to say, you know what, try that some more when the right look and the right situation is there. Yes. And you can always go back to that. Well, like why why would you not like it? Oh, shoot. We did that. It worked. Here. Here. Let’s do a different one. But let’s do it again. Let’s do it again. You know what I mean? Like it’s it’s if if they couldn’t stop that one, why do you think they could stop the next one? You know, like just keep going to that. And it doesn’t it to me, it doesn’t just have to be Rasheed, right? We’ve got other guys that can run. Um, but I just think that that once that part of this offense is unlocked, it’s going to open up so many other things in my opinion. Yeah. All right, John, why don’t you uh bring us to someone else that you want to uh see in this game, see see a little bit more of this season. Yeah, for me it’s Kendra Miller. Uh I I know Alvin was the featured guy, right? And I think Alvin did a fantastic job against the 49ers. and just 11 snaps though. That’s the only thing for him in this last game. And so I I’m just curious because even you go back to that fourth down play. I thought that was the perfect execution. You bring Chimera, you motion in Miller there. So you got, you know, two backs in there. Then you got a running orbital motion. Like the defense is like, what in the hell’s about to happen? And, you know, you could have probably dumped it off to Alvin there, but Spencer picks it up with his legs and such. But I I do want to see a little bit more of the two back set. I do want to see Kre Miller get involved a little bit more because he had this great camp. He had this great preseason. He’s just one of those players where I know it’s it’s the Alvin show and I know he was going to get a lot of the the looks and the reps and the targets, but I think with both of those guys on the field or even just putting Kindre in there, I’d like to see a little bit more screenplay. I want to see a little bit different looks out of there. And of course, we’re in the early stages of the season. I know Kell Moore hasn’t opened up the playbook, right? And I so I think there’s a lot coming. But but for me, Kendra Miller is a guy that I feel like if you can get those two guys on the field at the same time, it’s going to keep the defense guessing. Just like to Lance’s point, if you rolled in somebody like a Mason Tipton in there with Rasheed Shahed, you don’t know who’s going to be running the deep route. And you got speed right there. And so I I I like Kendra. I like the fact that he can do a lot of different things that we’ve seen him do. I think you can trust Kendra Miller. I think he’s been electric in the return game. They’re not kicking it to to Vis Jones Jr. I know that for sure. So, he’s getting some opportunities. Uh see what he can do. But that’s the one guy I’d probably say I want to see a lot more of going forward. Yeah. Yeah. I like that. Yeah. I think you need that compliment to Alvin, too, right? Like you want that other guy that can come in and kind of give I don’t know if it’s a reprieve to Alvin or just to have that I mean the the quality of having a boom and zoom, if you will, right? between the tackles runner and an outside guy. Like there is some value to having that. Yeah. Yeah. Um Ross, who is going to be your player you want to see a little bit more of? Yeah. Look, it’s going to be weird to say this because he played 100% of snaps last week, but I just want to see him on the field again and see how he continues to develop. And it’s Jonas Sanker for me. I thought he did a great job uh going in there as as a young safety. It was one catch allowed when he was the closest defender, which is not the same thing as being in coverage. I want to be very very clear about that, but just being the closest defender. Uh where it was, you know, he he crashed down. He was in the middle of the field as a safety. Then he crashed down to the offensive left flat where Christian McAffrey caught a pass for four yards and he got the tackle and Christian McAffrey stretched out for like one extra yard. So he got five yards out of it. But excellent stuff from him and there’s no stat that tracks this blocked on Saints listeners here. hear me talk about this all the time, but there’s no stat for this. But I I wish that there was a stat for the amount of times that a safety forces a quarterback to take another look and look somewhere else. You know what I mean? Cuz like so much of what you do as a deep safety and out of the 70 plus snaps that he played uh on Sunday, 40 or more, 42 I think it was were in deep safety roles. And many times he was forcing M. Jones to look somewhere else after he looked at the coverage that Yonas Anker had. And in the run support that he gave as well, he had one missed tackle. At one point, it was on a passing play. Uh it was like a first and 10 on Jawan Jennings. And he met him right at the right at the uh the the what do you call it? Point of attack. Uh not the point of attack, but like the uh the goal, like where the yards to go, right? It was like it was right at that 10 yard mark, if you will. line of scrimmage or no first down marker first down marker. Thank you. Jesus, we got there, guys. Goodness. Uh, sorry about that. Uh, yeah. Right. Yeah. I feel like there’s like a there was like a thing there’s like another word for it, but I don’t know. Anyway anyway anyway the first down marker. Yeah, line of game. That’s exactly what I was looking for. Line of gain. Thank you. Um, and he kind of went through that tackle and got an extra like three yards, but that that was it. it was like right at the sideline. And so other than that, I I thought he had a really really strong day. And so now with Jackson Smith and Jigba, who’s been awesome to start the season, the Seattle Seahawks wide receiver, the Cooper Cup and the yards after catch that he piled on up against a pretty good Pittsburgh Steelers defense that all of a sudden kind of folded once Alex Heismith got hurt and they had a little bit less opportunity to put pressure on Sam Darnold. Um, even though Sam Darnold is one of the most pressured quarterbacks in the NFL, like with those with those wide outs there and with Elijah Auroro there, Aoyo, excuse me, there at tight end and so on and so forth, like there’s good weapons uh for that passing game. And so I’m really excited to see what Yonas Anger can do to contribute to that. And then also with that wide zone rushing scheme from Clint Kubak, that safety position, obviously being an attacking safety position in the run game is going to be really important. So I’m super excited to see him because he’s such a good downhill player. He’s a solid and reliable tackler and he’s proven to pro be pretty good in coverage at least so far. So, he’s somebody I’m looking forward to seeing more of. Yeah. Uh well, I definitely now feel like the rundown of where our Quincy Riley data sets because whenever I look at the team uh and I see two position groups that have played poorly with young players ready to step in and make an impact, I look at linebacker and quarterback uh and and I’ll go over them since I did have them in the rundown quickly. I’ll go over Quincy Riley and Denny subson is I IM. Uh I think that he has he was a really good quarterback a couple of years ago. Uh then he he took a year away from the team came back and wanted to step in. Uh but he was getting picked on hard whenever he was on the field and in coverage uh this past weekend and it was very much a weakness of this team. Uh, and at so at some point, you know, you want to see Quincy Quincy Riley’s name is going to get called a lot on while Ike in the game and getting picked on because nobody is better in NFL than the backup who hasn’t played yet. Uh, so it’s gonna be Quincy Riley and then you’re gonna hear Danny Stman for Pete Warner because Pete Warner like yam got bullied in coverage. Uh, and I think that that pewer does a lot in in the run game and and for tackling, but he got he got beat pretty poorly on uh in coverage. You know, as linebackers get, you know, more modern, that is uh going to be something that people want to see Wernner do a little bit better of because whenever he was targeted, it would went for a lot of yards. Uh so, at some point, you want to see what the young guys can do. these draft picks. They’re very exciting, very fun, and they’re at two position groups that are getting targeted and bullied on Sundays. And they desperately need a pass rush to help them out. Yes. And I think they’re getting some of it, but there’s times where they’re not even getting any push when they need to, but I mean, you just look at the third downs. I mean, the defense has to play better as a whole, but the third and third and six, third and 10, third and 14, third and 13, like you shouldn’t be giving those types of things up like consistently. And that’s what they were doing against the 49ers. And that’s how you just don’t win games. Some of the penalties, the phantom stuff on Kool-Aid, like when they were already walking off the field. We’re not going to get hung up on that. Like that’s one issue. The footing in the Superdome, that was the most bizarre thing. And I know that they downplayed it, but it was a problem and it has been a problem for a home team to play there and to have those issues. That was some of the things like Warner slipping on something or at the end of the game Rattler or Elante slipping on something and trying to recover that shouldn’t happen to your to your guys and and so that’s kind of a little bit of sore spot for me. But I I think to Dylan’s point of who he’s talking about, I I do want to see Quincy Riley a little bit sooner rather than later because I think that again, you look at Yonas Sanker coming in for Julian Blackman. This is accelerating the rebuild and you’re getting a better look of what you have going into next year in some aspects. So I think Quincy Riley is going to have a prime spot. You know, Elante’s in a contract year. That’s something that we’re going to have to keep obviously an eye on and such. So I wouldn’t be upset seeing Quincy Riley here in and Ike got him. Maybe he’s got another game or two to figure it out, but you know, at some point these these guys got to start winning some games. And they’ve got tough opponents. I mean, you mentioned Cooper Cup and this talented wide receiving core and it’s Sam Darnold. You don’t know what version you’re going to get with them. They’ve got a stout run game with Kenneth Walker and so uh it’s the defense has got to really play up a level. Yeah. And they have two good running backs. Uh sure. Charmin um and he Yeah. So, that’s going to be it’s going to be tough. It’s a tough offense and a feisty defense. It’s going to be interesting. But, uh, coming up next, we’re gonna get to some Saints players to watch, uh, to help maybe have a little bit different of a result come this Sunday. This episode is brought to you by Mazda’s moving the game forward. For those uh who believe it’s not just about playing the game, it’s about redefining it. There are moments that do more than just put points on the board. They move crowds, move culture, and keep the game keep moving the game forward. This week’s moment that moved the game forward is Chris Rump coming up with a strip sack at midfield to set up a touchdown that brought New Orleans within just two points in the second half. The Saints did end up win didn’t end up winning, but that was a big moment from someone who is fighting to earn every single snap. Uh we have talked about the team needing more pass rushers to come through in the clutch, and that’s exactly what Ro did. When you follow what moves, the only unexpected thing is the beginning. And just like uh just like there’s more to every highlight, there’s more to a Mazda vehicle. Mazda move and be moved. Hm. I don’t know why boinks got me, but Boinks got me like old school girl in the corner over there. I was over here like just so yall know what I have to look at whenever I’m doing these ad reads. It’s It’s always actually just Ross. It was actually just Ross crying, laughing. Yeah, I’m too I’m too expressive. No, it’s why we love you. Um, let’s get into players to watch. Uh, and I’m going to go ahead. I’m gonna start off with Jawan Johnson because your favorite Johnson. My, you know, you know what, Will, you know, Will kind of earned my respect. Uh, and I always You have two favorite Johnson. I did really like Will Johnson uh in college. Uh, but I was doing I was doing that for the bit. Um, but moving moving forward past that bit and not acknowledging what anyone else is saying, Shawan Johnson is a really really good tight end or whatever. I’m just Yeah, I’m just trying to get past it. All right. I don’t know what you mean. I don’t know what you mean. I don’t know what you mean. Jawan Johnson. Uh, the the Seahawks have given up seven catches to tight ends in each game. And I think that that is going to be uh you know something I’m gonna pencil in. Chawan Johnson seven catches. It’s not bold predictions yet and that’s not going to be mine. But I just think that the tight ends are going to get involved and it’s going to be Dan Johnson because uh you know I’d like to see another tight end break through uh in this offense, but I just don’t really see it happening right now. Uh, so I think this is going to be a game where Spence RER relies heavily on uh Jawan Johnson and if he can have a a good game and a consistent game, I think that it’ll really help the offense uh keep moving. Yeah. I mean, he leads a team in receiving yards right now and I’m pretty sure receptions, too. Uh, he’s been a big part of the game plan. Targets. Yeah. I mean, it was good to see him recover. I mean, just two passes like again, you look at the two passes that probably should have caught, right? I mean, and he knows that, but we were all interested to see what his response was going to be coming from last week and all that other stuff that happened against the Cardinals. And so, I mean, I think with Jawan Johnson, he’s going to continue to be a favored target of Spencer Rattler. We that’s not going to be a surprise there. Uh, it’s just how do they defend it knowing that they’ve got two weeks of film knowing that Jawan Johnson is probably going to be the guy that that Rattler looks at a lot here. Yeah. Wait. Who is your player to watch? Uh, well, you said players to watch. Players to watch. It says players to watch down there, but he’s talking about the segment as a whole, Lance. According to I’m take I’m I’m taking it literally and I’m saying the offensive line. There you go. I like that. Okay. Yeah, 100%. The the injuries to Fuaga and Dylan Raidens. um the inconsistency of Caesar Ruiz like who’s gonna line up in this game? Is is Wonga gonna be able to play? Is Trevor Penning who I think is making his way back to practice? Is he going to be up for this game? Like who who are going to be the guys who line up to protect Spencer Rattler in this game? And within that group, thinking about what they’re going to have to deal with from an offensive line perspective with the crowd noise, with the silent count, is it going to be Eric McCoy that’s figuring out when he’s snapping the ball? Is he doing the the headshake thing and then the snap? Is it going to be one of the guards looking at Spencer Ratler to make sure he’s ready then give him the hand signal? Like, what are we going to see from this group? Um, and and you know, I I I would imagine if if the starting group is out there, I would imagine it would be Cesar Ruiz that’s that’s giving the signal. Um, is there going to be some play off of that signal to hopefully keep the Seattle front line off balance, right? Because a lot of times you see those those offensive linemen give the signal and literally a split second later the ball snaps. So that kind of gives the defensive line an indicator as to when that ball’s going to be snapped. It’s different than when you actually have a snap count that could go on one or two or three or could be a dummy count. Like there’s a bunch of different ways that you can go about keeping the defense off balance when you’re actually doing a verbal snap count. But the silent count is is much tougher to keep the defense off balance. But it’s also necessary if you can’t hear anything to do. you’re going to have to use that snap count. So, I’m I’m interested to see how the offensive line first looks and second how their operation is handled um throughout the game and and then obviously how how well they play. I mean, because I I think um you know, from week one to week two, I think they play better, but I I think they can continue to improve. Um the run game obviously looked better in week two than it did in week one. Um and Spencer didn’t get sacked as many times, I believe, in week two as he did in week one. So, I mean, that’s that’s a win in of it of itself. So, let’s continue that upward trajectory with the offensive line. Let’s see who’s out there. Um, and hopefully the the guys that we need to be out there are healthy enough to be out there because if if they’re not healthy enough to be out there, we can’t trot them out. Um, and and the backups are going to have to step up and and make sure that they’re doing their thing as well. Yep. BS Richards uh stepping in if Wonga can’t go. I mean, he’s got a back injury to go with his knee. So, that’s never a good thing with a back, but I know you try to play. It’s one of those things, too, right? Like, you hurt the knee and then you start compensating for the knee, you hurt something else. And like also like it’s such a tricky game to play. And then if if um Trevor Penning isn’t ready to come back yet. You’re right, Lance. He was limited at practice today. He actually spoke to the media today, too. It’s typically a pretty good sign, but not not completely foretold. Um, and so we’ll see what what happens with him. Dylan Raiden’s missing with an injury of his own, a toe injury himself. And so that could open the door for rookie Tory Torreselli Simpkins to potentially uh get a start on the interior. He impressed during um during the preseason, but obviously regular season football is a different game. But when you’re going up against Byron Murphy and um you know Jiren Reid and uh uh Leonard Williams and like this caliber particularly of interior offensive lineman like that’s a challenge for a young quarterback if there’s a if there’s a banged up or ineffective offensive line interior offensive line in front of him for sure. Yeah, I like that. John, uh I’m gonna go with Chris. I I think he’s been very quiet the first two weeks. Yeah, I I think it some of it is probably getting on the same page as Spencer Rattler. Different things. Some of that will come in time, but I think this is time for a good Chris breakout game for this season. And so I I think not to go jump into bowl predictions or anything, but I just like him getting involved a little bit more, being targeted more, giving the ball a little bit more, giving some different looks. Um, that’s my guy to watch this week. And just given the fact that I think Jawan, they may have a different plan for him. I think obviously they’re going to key in on Alvin. That’s obviously going to be a featured part of this offense. But I really do feel like this is the week that you can see Chris emerge. I I’d love to see the shot plays. I’d love to see a lot of taking chances, but given that we really haven’t seen it, the playbook hasn’t opened up a lot. I still believe that that 2 to2 pipeline is where it’s at. And I’m going to be watching the lave. I think this is this his time to really come in here and and step in and step up a little bit and help give this Saints offense a little bit of some of the things that they’ve been missing. Thanks, Ross. Yeah. 13 receptions on 23 targets. Yeah. Oh, so far for him season 10 like a little over 100 yards. Yeah. something like that. Yeah. Yeah. There’s a lot more. There should be a lot more. We’ve all We’ve all been expecting more. Yeah. Exactly. 100%. Um I I will follow the trend of players and I’m going to go one from offense and one from defense because we’ve named a lot. Yeah. Yeah. So So I’m going to break. This is a rare occurrence. Lance and I are going to take our bald heads over here and we’re going to do something different. Well, Lance is less bald than me today. Um but which good for you, man. Man, I wish I could. I really wish I could. I’m just I’m broke. I’m broken. So, so on the offensive side, since we’ve named a lot of offensive guys, um I’m gonna go with Alvin Chimera. Uh Alvin Chimera is huge in this game for me. I I think versus Seattle, first of all, he has been outstanding against Seattle. Like the Seattle Seahawks fans think of Alvin Chimera the when it comes to the Saints the way that Saints fans think of Marshon Lynch when they think of Seattle like that it’s it’s like a similar situation. Um Alvin her has played three games against Seattle. All three of those games with the Saints have been wins. I don’t expect that to be the case this time. I’ll bridge the gap a little bit to the next segment. Uh but in any case, all three of them have been wins. All three of them he’s had more than 90 receiving yards. All he’s got three touchdowns. And all three of he’s also had over 50 rushing yards. And so he has just been for whatever reason up against previous iterations of Seattle, which it’s a different team now, but against previous iterations of Seattle, uh he has been a key piece to th those wins going and I think the most recent one is like 21 22 something like that. Um and so him to me always going to be a big point of any road game anyway because what travels defense, run game, like that. that’s kind of what you want to travel in a situation like this. So, I I’ll highlight him. And then on defense, I’ll go with Kool-Aid McKinstry. Um I am looking at Kool-Aid as the guy that’s got to make something happen for this Saints defense on the coverage side. Is it solely on him? No. There’s obviously a lot of different players that could impact the game, but knowing how much Jackson Smith and Jigba has been a part of what it is that Seattle has done early on in this season, knowing how much Cooper Cup has contributed to this team start, you know, last week and everything like that. Kool-Aid McKenry to me is a guy that was a star during training camp and has looked closer to the same that he looked last year early on this year. So, I’m looking to see can he bounce back. I think he’s a remarkably talented player. I think he’s very physical. I think he’s very smart, too. Just having spoken with him and and getting to know him and things like that. He has it, but he’s got to be able to display it. And so, I think that this is a game to where not looking for him to prove anything, all that other kind of stuff, but it’s an opportunity for him going up against a really good uh air it out style offense once the run game gets moving. And we know what Clint Kubak does too. If you stop the run game, he’s looking 50 yards downfield every chance he gets. You know what I mean? And so I think it’s going to put a lot of attention over on Kool-Aid. And so I would like I want to see how he responds to that. Yeah. Uh to your point about uh Alvin Chimera at least I was looking uh Seattle Seahawks 73 yard uh receiving yards against Christian McCaffrey which I mean that’s it’s Christian McCaffrey nine catches 73 yards that’s about what you’re going to get it no matter who you are. Uh but also 86 receiving yards for Jaylen Warren and the Pittsburgh Steelers next game. Just uh you know receiving backs have had some success and I think that uh especially you know just needing to get things going. It would be really shocking if they don’t attack that early and often uh with Chimera. Yeah. And I and I also agree with Klay Mckinry just because I think he is someone that we expect to be better than he has been. Yeah. And Seattle’s defense has had some problem tackling. So I think that bodess well for somebody like as well. Yep. Good point. Think like 13 missed tackles last week against Pittsburgh or something like that. They probably missed half of those on Jaylen Warren. Right. Right. Exactly. Oh man. All right. Well, coming up next, wrapping it up, we’re going to get to our game picks and bold predictions. And uh that’ll be that’ll be it for today. But yeah, coming up next, game picks. The NFL season is back and honestly, there’s nothing better than being in the stadium surrounded by fans uh cheering on your team. But let’s be honest, getting tickets could be a hassle. Between cues, login screens, and prices jumping at uh jumping out at checkout, it’s got to be frustrating. That’s why I use Game Time, the app that gives the advantage back to the fans. Game time is fast, easy, and backed by Game Time guarantee. You always get 100% authentic tickets delivered at on time and at the best price. Plus, all fees are included. Again, that’s promo code L O C K D O N for $20 off. Swipe tap ticket. Go download Game Time today. All right, wrapping it up today. Let’s get to these game picks, bullet predictions, and let’s start off with Lance. Well, um, you had to start with me. Last time I didn’t start with you, I stole your answer. No, look, I didn’t want to be the guy the first one. Uh, but I believe I’m not going to be the only one. Uh, while I like the trajectory of this team, I like the fight, I like the fact that in both of the first two games, we had the ball with an opportunity to potentially win games. That to me is is positive. Um I don’t see any way like that we go to Seattle and win this game unless our defense has a four turnover game, you know, potential defensive touchdown. Like I I just think that Seattle is a better team and that’s okay, right? Like it’s it’s it’s not the end of the world. This is a tough environment. This is a team that um is is built better to win right now um than we are and and we do have a young quarterback that’s going into probably the most hostile environment that he will have faced in his young career. I’m as big of a Saints fan as anybody else, but I’m also a realist. Um if we weren’t going to win any of those first two games, we aren’t winning this. So, I’m going to go Seattle 27, Saints 17. uh unfortunately. Um but but I do see our guys similarly with fight um and and showing that grit and that determination that that good teams show. Um I just don’t know that we have enough to get it done out there in Seattle this week. I like I uh I wonder if you’re going to be the only one. I know one person that’s going to be picking against the Saints. We’ll save him. John, who are you gonna who are you going to go with? Well, we didn’t get Lance’s bold prediction either. We did this again last week. We got to We got to be Okay, get your B. We got to be We will see. We will. Okay. Yes. So So there was there was there was there was doom, but let me bring some gloom here. We will see our first offensive play of 50 plus yards in this game at Seattle. There’s my bold prediction. Okay. I can’t tell you if it’s going to be a touchdown, but it’s going to be 50 or more. We haven’t had one of those yet. We’re due. So, let’s let’s get one this week. I’m call the sheed quake. There we go. Like that, man. Oh, man. All right. So, uh, look, I mean, I’m 0 and2. Lance and I are 0 and2 right now picking. We took the Saints in the first couple of weeks. And so for me, it’s not about that, but I I I just don’t know that you go into Seattle and you beat this team. Um I think the first 20 is going to end up winning this game. And I think it’s going to be the Seahawks. I don’t think that’s a big mystery. I’m going to take them 24-7. Uh I think the Saints will put up a lot of fight, but unless they can find a drastic turnaround on defense and make Sam Darnold see ghosts, then I don’t think there’s much hope for them. I think the Seahawks have too many weapons on the offensive side. They have it all together on the offensive side right now. And the Saints defense just doesn’t have it together. And so I think it just puts a little bit more pressure on the offense to try to have to score points on every drive because their defense is just not where it needs to be. And so there are some encouraging things that you’ve seen out of the Saints defense, but right now I feel like that’s kind of what’s holding this team back a little bit. And so going up into Seattle trying to get them win. I just don’t see it. However, on my bold prediction, like I talked about the players to watch, I think this is a seven to nine catch game for Chris Ave and I think he goes over 100 and finds the end zone. That’s my bold prediction for this week that they get back on track. They get on the on the same page, get some chemistry and you see what that what 12’s all about. All right, Ross, are you gonna save the graphic? No, he’s he already said we taken. Yeah, we already know. Listen, I I I will say this. I will say this. The Seattle Seahawks are three and seven in their last 10 home games, which is really surprising. Really, really surprising. But that was also a Seattle Seahawks team that was kind of rebuilding from where they were post Russell Wilson. kind of they kind of were a team that was where the Saints are now. They’re trying to figure out like they were trying to figure things out with Gino Smith and all that. They got a great season from them and everything. Now they have a new quarterback and Sam Darnold. It’s a new direction. So, I think things could end up still being but no matter what like no matter what the team does, the environment is still really hard to play. So, I’m still going to take the Seattle Seahawks here. I’m going very close to John’s score actually. I’m going 2717. And my prediction of how that unfolds is for them to actually be 2417, uh, Seattle 24, the Saints 17 with the ball with four minutes left and then the Saints come up a little bit short and then it’s a, you know, field goal by Seattle that like extends it to a two-point conversion and kind of puts the nail in the coffin, if you will. So, so pretty close in terms of what I’m thinking of, uh, pretty close to to John’s prediction in terms of what I’m thinking of there. Um, as my bold prediction, and and you’ll have to tell me if this is actually a bold prediction, but I’m thinking bold prediction in the relative to what’s happening this year. I’m going Alvin Camro with two touchdowns in this game. He’s he’s only ever had one touchdown in a game up against Seattle. And so, I’m going two touchdowns with him. If that’s not bold enough, I can do another one. But, uh, I think two I think both touchdowns that the Saints score are from Alvin Chimera, rushing or receiving. Somebody’s about to go lock in that bet right now because Ross Jackson said so. Okay. Okay. So, you’re all taking the Seahawks. You’re all taking the Seahawks. Man, if only there was someone to fall on the sword. So, there was someone to come up, rise up through the ashes, go over to the West Coast, have the gall to believe that the Seattle Seahawks can maybe can’t win this game. If only there was someone I I’m really asking because I’m thinking the Seahawks to win 20-3 uh with Seattle. I mean, I just think that there’s no way I I mean, I I look at a game like last week. Look at the the the Steelers. Charvid gets 15 carries. They hold him to 10 yards. How do that? Seems like the perfect recipe to beat this young. What do they do? Well, Kenneth Walker is the other back and he has 100 yards on 13 carries. And it wasn’t just one big carry. Like he was consistently getting big big gains. They weren’t didn’t be able to do anything. And I feel like if the offense and defense is able to hone in on one, the other’s going to attack him. And then, oh yeah, you have JS out wide. You have Cooper Cup who’s getting his 401k and trying to get 400 yards this season at the same time. And you have like Tory Horton, who is a guy I like that this is a a team that I think just I just don’t see the Saints being this this week, unfortunately. If Cooper Cup finishes the season with exactly 401 yards, I’m going to go insane. I think he Yeah. Well, he might get 400 this week against Iiki, but that’s another story. No, no, no, no, no, no. All right. Um, but yeah, no, I I do think that this is I I I kind of thought about it because I think that this will be another game where we at the end of it were like, okay, well, the Saints were in it a little bit more than we thought. I don’t think that this Seahawks team is the most dominant team in the NFL. Like they might they might I think they’re like a wild card team right now. And I think that at where we’re at right now, I think New Orleans can compete with wild card teams, but I don’t know if they can beat them. Their only Yeah. Well, their only chance is to go like what they did in 2019 when Teddy Bridgewwater, you go in, you score touchdowns quick and you take the crowd out of the game and put the pressure on Seattle and the defense just kind of had to play their thing. That’s the only way I see this playing out. And it’s it’s similar in Buffalo, but Buffalo, I mean, they got Josh Allen. They’re going to put up touchdowns after touchdowns, but for this one, that’s the only realistic scenario I see is the Saints can score something right off the bat and then get a defensive turnover and then score again. I think that puts a little bit more pressure on Clint Kubak and some of the adjustments he can’t make sometimes in the second half. Maybe that that helps him out a little bit, but I just don’t see it this week. Yeah, fast start would be huge in this game. I will say this uh last year and I’ve said this on a couple of other shows too, but like last year when the Saints had the football within one score, I would and it was late in the game with like two minutes left. They needed a two-minute drill to like tie the game or something like that. I I would start writing my gamer. I just kind of knew how it was going to end. Right. this year in these first two games like the Saints have been in that situation and I’ve legitimately said to myself both times, let let me let me let me see how this plays out. And I like kind of sat back and I wanted to watch it. And so I say that to say that if there’s a situation in which the Saints have the ball late, it’s going to be interesting. And that’s why like I have them with four minutes left, 24 to 17 with a chance to maybe tie the game with the ball in their hands. ultimately it’ll end up being what it is. But I do want to acknowledge that like the vibe of where this season is is already so much further than where the vibe of last season was. Even pre Dennis Allen being fired, right? Obviously the the vibe of the first two games was incredible. U there’s no doubt about that. But then, you know, a couple weeks after that, you kind of started to go like, “Oh yeah, okay. They are going to crash down back down to earth here.” And so I think that like walking away from this game with positives is possible without a win just like the first two weeks. So for what that’s worth, I agree. I al I also wonder like say we are to lose this game, say we’re to lose in Buffalo. Now you’re sitting at 0 and4. Usually the teams that aren’t winning are quick to start making some changes. Now, I’m not saying that it’s going to be Spencer Rattler, but like we talked about earlier with Quincy Riley, Danny Stsman, there’s some other young guys that could potentially get more playing time. Like, when are we going to start seeing some of those guys get opportunities? And it’s not like you and and honestly at an after an 0 and four start potentially it’s not like you’re packing the season away by going to other guys but at some point you need to get the a look at the guys that you do have because it’s not like you’re preparing to play for a Super Bowl this season. like you you need to see what you have before you get late and into the season and the ship has pretty much sailed and then you’re you know going into the off season wondering dang do I need to draft at these given positions again even though you didn’t get a chance to see those guys. I’m just curious see what what could happen. Yeah. Because about seeing what you have elsewhere more than it becomes about being displeased with what you are what you’ve seen, right? Like taking inventory. Yeah, I’m with you. Yep. It’s gonna happen. It’s better when your mic’s on. It works. It works better when we can hear you. Yeah. He went on that rant of stuff and he’s just like, “Oh, I forgot to unmute myself.” I’m done. Technical difficulties. There you go. You know where you don’t need to see other options. It’s in the Saints podcast market because you get it right here. Then you’re listening to the Saints squad show. Check out me, Ross, John, and Lance on our socials for the latest.
