Seattle Mariners vs Kansas City Royals – MLB 9/17/25 Full Game Highlights (MLB The Show 25 Sim)
Hello baseball fans and welcome Major League Baseball on tap. It’s the Seattle Mariners going up against the Kansas City Royals. And now, please welcome your first pitch coming at you right after the break. Kansas City Royal. First pitch moments away. And towing the slab in this one, Noah Cameron. Tell us about him in that sub3 RA singing. Bill, anytime you can keep your erra under three, you’re doing a lot of things right and you’re putting your team in a position to win a lot of ball games as well. And he’s doing tremendous out there on the mound. Every time he gets the ball, you expect him to go out there and dominate. And that’s what he’s been to this point. We’ll see how he is today. Randy Rosarena, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. And that one is inside. He’s great hitting the ball the other way. And that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Swing and a miss. And it’s two and one. [Music] Swing and a miss as he was late that time. Well, he was really tardy on that fast ball. Great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball. Add some velocity to it on the next pitch. Can’t catch up. Hit hard on the ground to short. Slings it across. One out in the top of the first. And now we check out the Mariners lineup. And no doubt a big factor in this series so far. Jorge Palano. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not left field way back there. That’s back and it’s out of here into the home bullpen for a homer. Home run number 55 on the year and the Mariners have the lead. It’s one- nothing. That’s a fun way to take the lead. Just hit one out of the park. [Applause] He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the loft, and gets the home run. Julio Rodriguez, the batter down as he swings and misses for strike one. Heart of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. [Applause] Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way, Naylor. And now it’s Josh Naylor. Step off, throw to first and he’s back in there. Naylor batting in the cleanup spot and he was born in Canada. [Applause] First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Rodriguez over at first with one away. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. [Music] bosses. [Applause] A sliding play at short. There’s one double play. What a twin killing day in the unit. The Mariners pick up a run thanks to this solo homer. It’s an early one- nothing lead. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show back here at Kaufman Stadium. And on the mound in this one, George Kirby. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way, somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Mike Yensky leading things off and takes a strike. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. Leading up for the board. Now, here’s Bobby Jun. Bobby Wit Jr. And that’s outside. Ruer at first with no outs here. [Music] Next one off the plate inside and the count is 2 and 0. And the rightander deals. Pitch misses. And now three and 0. [Music] Kansas City out in front and foul to the left side. Nobody out. Runner at first. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Bill, you know that’s got to be very frustrating for this guy. He knows the strike zone extremely well. And you know what? Good hitters are not going to compromise. He’ll take that punch out, but ultimately stick with his plan and have more success than anything else. And next up for the Royals, Vinnie Pasquantino. Now this is in the air down the line. Rosarena moving under it. And there’s two away. batting fourth, the third baseman, Mike. And here now, the lineup for the Royals. And one guy who’s been great for them, Mike El Garcia. And Boo, he’s the table setter for this offense. Team leader and on base percentage. I mean, that just gives your teammates plenty of chances to cash in and bring them around to score. Man, I used to love when I had a guy out in second base or third base. Easy to get those RBI’s game after game. you know, a guy like this, what he’s going to provide and the opportunities that other guys are going to get in the lineup. Mike El Garcia, the next to hit, takes ball one. One and0 hit in the air left field. A Rosarena and makes the grab and that ends the inning. So, one left for Kansas City. They’re down one- nothing. Top of the second. Now it’s the second baseman, Jorge Palanco. Palanco fouled off down the right side. close but called a ball and now it’s even one and one. Carl Dixon doing the umpiring behind the plate and Boo. I’m not sure if it’s because he sort of sets up higher than most, but one thing to be aware of with Dixon is the high strike. Not usually a big deal because most players are swinging at pitches up there, but we may see some surprise looks from hitters from time to time because that’s just so unusual. [Music] cuts on it and misses. That’s a strike out. Chase the fast up the ladder for strike three. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things. But when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch. when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. And first offering is fouled off. Way out front for strike two. Oh, you Off the plate. Ball one. Fights it off. He’ll see another. That misses the zone. Two balls, two strikes. The count, one out, bases empty. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. You usually are going to see that inside fast ball a little longer coming in from the opposite side, but that pitch really got in on him right there. I mean, that’s a wellthrown pitch. Tough to do anything with that in terms of getting the hands through and the sweet spot of the bat to the baseball. [Music] And that one just missed off the outside edge. [Music] Finish him. gets under and pops it up. Garcia and he makes the catch. And that is that. Mariners are down in order, but they lead it one to nothing. Bottom of the second. Now it’s the DH. Salvador Perez. Salvador Perez. Come on, Salvador. And he grounds one back up the middle, slides for the stop, and that’s a great play for the out. As an infielder, you have to be ready for anything. In that spot, it required going to the ground, getting a little dirty, and making a strong throw for the out. Great play. So, digging in, Michael Massie. That one’s in there. 0 and one. One’s the count. [Music] And that’s fouled off. [Music] Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. [Music] Got it. And there’s two away. Jonathan at the plate. Jonathan India and this is inside. And there’s a foul ball. Cut on and lifted in the air. Kenzone settles underneath it. Hauls it in to end the inning. We played two innings. It’s one to nothing. Back here in Kansas City, top half of the third inning. And now the DH Leo Reebas. Cameron back to work in the air to left center. Yustrrenky sizing this one up. Brings it in. And there’s one down. Batting the shortstop JP Crawford will hit next and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Swang and a miss. Struck him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. Rosarena. Now it’s Randy Rosarena grounded out his first time. And that’s way high and it’s one and0. Right through there for a strike. Backto-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. That’s in there. And it’s one and two. Two out. Space is empty. [Music] And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Nobody left for Seattle, but they still lead it one- nothing. As we go to the last of the third, here’s the rookie right fielder, Jack Kaggle Leone. That one misses one and0. [Applause] and a swing to miss. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. [Music] That one way inside. [Music] spoils that one and it remains two and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. [Music] And there’s a ball. [Applause] [Music] And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. [Music] That one misses. So a lead off walk. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and endzones on the wall. Very gritty. And here’s the rookie catcher, Carter Jensen. Highf fly ball lifted into right field and there’s one down. Now batting the center fielder Mike Yes Sty. Mike Estreky up here. [Music] And that’s in there at the knees. [Music] Check swing, but he went too far. 0 and two strike on the ground right side. They get one to second. Tag. So they get one at first but can’t complete the double. number seven shortstop Bobby Witz Jr. Now the number two hitter Bobby Wit Jr. went down on strikes his first time through. [Applause] Here’s a highf fly ball out to center. Rodriguez settles under it and that’s the inning. Royals leave one. They still trail one- nothing. Start of the fourth. Here’s a big power throw. Cal Raleigh. Raleigh. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. The 1-1 is fouled off and that is a good eye on a pitch down low. Two and two. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. [Music] [Applause] That one just misses. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. [Music] BS another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Good late cut for the strike out there. That thing really got in on him. And you know the cutter isn’t really a huge swinging miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot. You’re just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact. But that one right there did a whole lot more than that. That was a really good pitch. And now it’s Julio Rodriguez late on that fast. The Mariners knew what they had. Signed him in July of 2017 for a little under $2 million when Rodriguez was just 16 years old out of the Dominican Republic. Fast forward to 2022 for Julio Rodriguez to win the Rookie of the Year. The Seattle Mariners were then compensated with the 29th overall pick in the first round of the draft in 2023. Part of the new CBA enticing teams to promote their good young players. Off the mark there. Two and two. Two balls, two strikes. And that’s downed away. Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. The 3-2 is outside and it’s ball four. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice plate appearance. Naylor. Here’s Josh Naylor. 0 for one so far. There’s a swing and a drive. That one back there. He’s got it. Runner tagging for first. Throws to second. Well, I think the wind ended up being a factor right there. It’s whipping in from right field right now. So otherwise, I think that ball’s out of here. The batter now Jorge Palano struck out swinging his first time. Slice the other way and foul. Rodriguez on at second with two down. [Music] Here’s the pitch. Runner breaks for third. Drilled in the air out towards right center. Yensky flying after this one. Squeezes it and that’ll do it. No runs, no base hits, no errors and a runner left. On now to the bottom of the fourth. It’s the Mariners one and the Royals nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. John and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Benny Pasquantino. Let’s go. Come on. Let’s go. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Well, these Royals, to put it bluntly, need to put together more competitive at bats. And I don’t think they’ve lived up to their own expectations at the plate. I think things are happening a little quicker than this offense would like. And we see it in the numbers. They’re hitting into a lot of outs early in the at bat. Swing and a miss. And he struck him out. That Kay is his third of the game. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting them away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. And now it’s going to be Michael Garcia right through there for a strike. [Applause] The M’s leading by a run. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That to right. Kenzone tracks it down for the out. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Come on. He swings and fouls one off. Perez goes 6 feet 3 in over 1,000 runs batted in in his career. And he’s usually a catcher. Today he gets off his legs a bit. He’s the DH. Well, I really like when a guy gets a break like that. He still gets to stay involved in the game instead of starting behind the dish. Gets to hit, gets to rest a little bit, gets to watch the game from a different perspective. [Applause] So, two down. Here’s the left fielder, Michael Massie. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. That missed by a lot. And that is ball one. [Music] that one back up the middle and it gets through. So that’s two straight two out hits. Two consecutive base hits for these guys here. Timing on the swing was good. Able to put the ball up the middle. Didn’t square up as much as he probably would have liked. That’s a good approach paying off. First and second, two outs. Now a chance for Jonathan India. He’s 0 for one. Basketball for a strike. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. Perez the lead runner at second. Massie at first. Two out of the inning. [Applause] Fair ball. And it will play. He’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single. We tie it at one. Huge game tying it bat right there. came through in a big spot to drive in the run. There’s nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield. That was ripped. Caught out in front and didn’t get under it like he would have liked, but definitely put a good swing on it. Jack Pagle Leone the next to hit. Worked a walk in his first trip to the plate. Ball one to the right fielder. Well, he’s just given up three straight hits and now behind in this count to this hitter. Might be a good time for somebody to call a timeout. Maybe the pitching coach to go out there and talk to him just a little bit. Two on, two outs. Tried to check his swing. Appeal to third and he went around. Just enough that time. Next offering misses. The countdown two and two. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. [Applause] Next offering is down low. Carter Jensen in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. First and second, two down. cracks his bat and pops him off. And that is the inning, but they pick up one run on the RBI single. All even now at 1-1. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. And we’re back. Ready now for the fifth inning. Here’s some real power at the plate. Au Heno Suarez. The pitch. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Well, these Mariners, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. Swing and a ground ball. And that one gets through into center field. And they have their first hit since the first inning. The right fielder number eight, Dominic. So up next, Dominic Panzone. First time up was a pop out and that one fouled off. [Applause] All tied up and we’re at the top of the fifth. [Applause] Late swing foul to the left. [Applause] Foul ball still 0 and two. [Applause] bows that off to the left and will do it again. [Applause] Swing at a highf fly ball that’s out to center. He’s got it and there’s one down. In now is the Mariners DH. Leo Reebas flyed to center his first time. That misses off the outside edge. Fly ball center field. He’s got it. And there’s two away. That’s a really nice play. Ranging back into the outfield for that catch. We all know those can be a little tricky, especially if the wind’s swirling around out there. Crawford. JP Crawford gets a chance to hit. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. Let’s do it. And that is downstairs. Ball one out to center. Yensky. And that is that. Mariners leave one. Still tied 1-1. Bottom of the inning of the play for Kansas City. Carter Jensener Jensen. Come on. And look out. That one gets him. The second man he’s plunked in this one. Here comes Mikey to the play. Centerielder Mike. And that one a little below the knees and it’s one and0. [Applause] Fast ball for a strike at 95. [Music] Run around to go. Pitch in the dirt. Throw. Save. And the go-ahead run is now in scoring position. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. Last half of inning number five. Outside low and it’s two and two. [Applause] Now pitching for Brian Woo ready or not in the game now after the injury out for the 30th time this year. Still two and two after the foul ball. Jensen at second with nobody out. [Applause] That one well upstairs. Full count now. Bobby Whit Jr. in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Music] stays alive. [Music] 3-2 ground ball the middle. That’s a base hit around third. Here’s the throw. and he’s safe at the plate as they take the lead. It’s two to one. We don’t see this a whole lot anymore where hitters with two strikes are willing to shorten up, tighten up, and try to hit the ball back up the middle other way. He was trying to hit that hole, I believe. Very good at bat with two strikes. No outs. Runner at first. Bobby Whit Jr. getting ready to hit. Pitch misses. One and0. [Applause] [Applause] Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Gabe Spire up and throwing. Bazardo also getting ready. Ball to strike the pitch. That’s down and in. You got two balls, one strike. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes, zips it across and that’s the first out in the bottom of the fifth. Now batting the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. Vinnie Pasquantino steps in for the Royals. Go for two in this one. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. That one in there across the letters. Right side hard hit. Two away [Music] now. the batting the third baseman Mike and next will be the cleanup hitter Mikel Garcia. Chris baseball today so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. Two outs with a runner at third [Applause] and that is out of play. Yeah, his swing is so good. in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. Two outs, gets a piece and it stays 0 and2. When you look at the elite teams in the game right now, there is going to be the slug. No question about it. But the really good offensive teams combined slug with more contact with less swing and miss. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end [Applause] and a foul ball. He stays alive. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter. Basketball is outside. Yeah. And I figured you would get caught into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. And ball four to a boy. Now batting the designated hitter. So two outs with runners on the corners. And next is the designated hitter Salvador Perez. One for two. [Applause] And then misses. And that’s ball one. Runners on first and third. Two away. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Now it’s Belgian deep to left. Way out of here. Home run. [Applause] That’ll fire up the dugout. That’s his fourth home run of the series. It’s 51. That one just sounded different. It might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the boot. [Applause] That home run was a no doubter. As we dive into the numbers with Stackcast. Crushed Boo. Just absolutely crushed. 112 mph on the exit Vo. And like you said, no doubt about that one. Plenty of launch angle to give it that backspin as well. And that carried way over the wall. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Ryan Woo will depart. And as he heads off, we’ll step aside for a minute. Back with the new pitcher after this break. Now pitching. Gabe Spire will take over here. They’ve been so good against lefties. Gabe Spire. Yeah. So, two down. Michael Massie digs in now. [Applause] There’s a strike. 95 of that one. [Music] and it’s fouled away. Chris, you look at it. These are the spots where pitchers can come on, pitch well, instill some confidence in the manager, and all of a sudden they’re pitching higher leverage spots of the postseason. Well, in this final month, I mean, this is an audition period for the callups, but it’s also for that marginal reliever that was on the and he got him. Strike three and that’ll retire the side. But the biggest swing of the inning comes right here. A three-run homer. It’s now a 51 ball game. Back after this on the show. Back here at Coffman Stadium, top six and stepping in for the Mariners. Randy Roserena. Cameron back to work. That misses. Ball one. They’ve got a potent lineup. And when you think about teams capable of rallying from this kind of deficit, they’re right at the top of the list. And that one fouled off. center field. Yensky, makes the catch for the out. Oh, I think the key, I mean, if he can get through one more inning. Anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Let’s go Raleigh batting with one down. Takes a strike. [Music] Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Massie on the move. Snags it on the run. Two down. Two down. Base is empty. Julio Rodriguez up next for the Mariners. I think when you contemplate him as a player, the first thing you think about is defense and you think about that great arm. I also think about the speed. If he can get on, that’s going to give one more thing for that pitcher to think about. 10 swinging a foul. Pushed off to the right and that will get out of play. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. Ripped to third, but handled and that’ll end the inning. Nothing doing for the offense that time. 789 two up in the home half of the inning. It’s the Royals five and the Mariners won. Well, we go bottom six. Now it’s going to be Jonathan India outside and that is ball one. Movement in the bullpen. Caleb Ferguson appears to be getting loose. Swang and a ball lifted in the air and it drops in, but a good job to keep it in front. Couple of hits in a row for him here. tried to get inside on him, but he was ready for it. Just kept his hands in and turned on the pitch. Quick bat through the zone. Man at first, nobody out. Next to hit, Jack Kaggle Leone swinging a highf fly ball out towards right field. Corrals it and there’s one away. The catcher number 17, Carter Jensen. Next to hit, Carter Jensen. Now, snap throw to first. India back in on a dive. First pitch and he just misses. lifted in the air right field. Kenzone makes the grab. Two down. Now batting the center fielder Mike Yremsky. Mike Ystreky steps in for the Royals. That one’s in there. Strike one. Oh, one’s the count. Into left center for a base hit. Rosarena gets it in. Ruer puts on the brakes at second. So, it’s first and second with two out. That’s back to back singles. nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did and it did perfectly. Whit in the box here lets that one go for a ball. First and second, two down here in the bottom of the sixth. fought off foul. Looked like he got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, want to stay up the middle that way if you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. If you’re a little late, opposite field nots [Music] it off. Still one and two. [Applause] Royals out towards right center field. Kenzone on the move to the gap. Makes the catch and that is that. Royals strand a pair. They’re up 5-1. Back here in Kansas City, we go to the top of the seventh. And now for Seattle, Josh Naylor. Ball one, no strikes. Definitely a frustrating day for the offense, but when they look at it, this guy’s had his best stuff. Been painting the corners, working on the edges, and changing speeds. Just a difficult one. You tip your cap. Next offering upstairs. [Music] And another ball. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Close pitch there. But you got to forget about that call if you’re out on the mound. You can’t let it affect you going forward. You got to get out of the inning first and then if you want to be frustrated, take it out in the dugout. If you’re going to get something going, this is the time to do it. You get the leadoff man on. Everybody’s got to look over the shoulder and say, “I’m just going to keep the line moving.” Don’t try to do too much. That one fouled off. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Outside corner got him looking Suarez up to hit now. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. Foul ball there. Naylor the base runner at first with one out. Let’s go. Come on. You can do it. The two three swing and a miss. Well done behind the dish. And now the right fielder, Dominic Kenzone. Dominic Kenzone. Come on. That one finds the zone. 0 and one. Come on. And a foul ball. Finish him. Two outs. And that’s downstairs and outside. Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch. Line drive and that’s a base hit and out to a board. really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. Hooked around that pitch on the outside, but he was still able to square it up pretty nicely. And that takes quick, strong wrist to pull that off. Next is the designated hitter, Leo Reebas. Come on, Royals. Let’s go. Fouled off left side. Two aboard, two outs. Pitch in the dirt and a count even. One and one. Bullpin action for the Royals. Michael Lorenzan, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Shriber getting cranked up as well. Finish him. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. He goes down looking, starting to run out of outs as they’re unable to chip away midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. It’s the Royals five and the Mariners won. Now pitching forward. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Edward Bazardo. He’s thrown the ball very well overall this season. He’s been really tough to get to. You see that RA and that’s where you love to be. 345 do up for the home team. So up now for Kansas City, Vinnie Pasquantino. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and it’s one and0. Bizardo in his second season. He features a slider, a sinker, a four seamer, and occasionally works in a splitter. Next offering is in for a strike. Two balls, one strike. Well, I think that pitch surprised all of us. Right down the middle. Doesn’t get a swing. Not very often you see a hitter lay off a cookie like that. Line drive caught. Yikes. That ball was an absolute missile and it almost becomes self-defense as the fielder when one of those things comes screaming towards you. Watch your lips. So now it’s the fourhole hitter Mikel Garcia breaking ball inside. One and0 and that’s in the dirt. [Applause] That’s outside and it’s 3 and 0. [Applause] And there’s the automatic swings through that. No, there’s a certain point where you have to commit to what you think you see. And he guessed wrong right there. Nasty slider with just terrific bite at the end on the ground. Palano tosses to first. Two up, two down. Up next for the Royals, the designated hitter, Salvador. And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. Certainly a factor in this one thanks to his threerun blast back in the fifth. Well, definitely one of the most impactful swings of the game. A big reason why they’re working with the lead and looking to add to it right here. [Applause] And the first pitch misses for ball one. Counts one and0. Swing and a miss. And he chases that one in the dirt. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. There’s a swing and a miss. One ball, two strikes. Good job to fight that one off. [Music] Next off I’ll bring down low and in the dirt. And ring him up, says Carl Dixon. That’s a strikeout. KC down in order. lead this one though 5-1. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Michael Lorenz and he’s been hit pretty hard at times this year. So he’s looking for better right now giving up for and stepping in for the Mariners JP Crawford. KP Crawford KP close but called a ball and that’s ball one. Lorenzan he’s someone that fills up the strike zone so he doesn’t give up a lot of walks but because he’s in the zone so much a decent amount of hits occur. Next pitch off the play and it’s 2 and 0. Activity in the Kansas City bullpen. Steven Kick getting loose out there. Swing and a miss. There’s the change up. And he’s got to get ahead early in the count and then be able to mix up his speeds, add and subtract some velocity, but command is the big key. Throwing the ball where he wants to. The next pitch misses. And now three in one. Three balls, one strike. Let’s go. Come on Casey. Foul ball. [Music] Three and two now. That one the other way. That’s a hit. And a good start to the inning. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. A Rosarena. Randy Arosena now at the plate. 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. First pitch misses. Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Maybe a two ball. Five, four, three, and they turn the double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. Two outs. Base is empty. Cal Raleigh will hit next. He’s already homered here in this one. Swinging a foul out of play. Two down. Nobody on and we’re in the top of the eighth. Ripped to short. Tosses to first. Third out and that ends the frame. Mariners go down quietly there. They’re down here. Five to one. Now pitching for now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Caleb Ferguson. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season, so this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. Michael Massie steps in for the Royals for three. Michael Messi. Yeah. The first offering a fast ball for a strike. 0 and one. Outside corner. There’s a strike. 02 is the count. [Music] Ball one there. Really good take, especially with two strikes. [Music] breaking ball misses down and away. [Applause] You got this and it remains two and two. [Music] popped up. Palano hauls it in for the owl. And there’s one away. The batter number six, second baseman Jonathan Jonathan India steps in for the Royals. Come on. And first offering is fouled off. on the ground right side. Palano to first. Two up, two down. Now batting right fielder Jack Kaggle Leone. Two down, base is empty. Jack Kaggle Leone the next to hit. it on the ground to short. Crawford. Royals set down in order. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond, and this guy is at the top of the list. Lorenzan back to work. That’s in there going and you played behind guys and they loved having your speed out there defensively. One of the things that we talk about is how much pitchers enjoy having those elite defenders behind them. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. [Applause] swing and a miss. Struck him out. Came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. did a nice job right there. Felling at bat can be a little bit of a dance. Strike one here, but few more pitches. We’ll see how it turns out. Headed towards the corner. And that’s a foul ball. [Applause] Got him swinging for the strike out. Now only one out remaining. the batter number seven. Now here is Jorge Palanco 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out towards right center. That’s well struck and that gets down into the gap. Makes the turn and heads for second and he’s in with a standup double. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Double into the gaff and that was a really nice swing to beat the inside pitch. Just beat him to the spot. Kept his hands tight inside that baseball and that just allowed him to drive it into the alley right there. Auo Suarez up to the plate now. [Applause] That one missed one. [Applause] Man on second. Two down. And another ball. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. Both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Man, at second and there’s a foul ball. Finish him. The Mariners down to their final strike. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. [Applause] Two outs. Foul chip. Oh, that got her umpire. And it looks like he got him upstairs. Seven fouls in a row. Such an impressive at bat we’re seeing right here. Regardless of how it ends up swinging and a miss, struck him out and that is the ball game. I don’t care if you’re a top team or you’re a middle of the pack team. Every ball club wants to be dominant at home. Winning a game like this just helps to boost the confidence and makes you look forward to coming out again for the next one. 51 is how it ends.
