Carlos Estevez is now (9/17) tied for 12th in all-time saves with the Royals. It feels very odd to me that one season could get him that high on the all-time team list. I guess that's a factor of having such long-term good closers (Quiz, Monty, Soria, Holland) and the team not having many wins to close out for much of its existence.

  1. Saves are a weird stat given they weren’t a crucial stat until the 80s. The royals have only had 7 seasons with a player reaching 40 saves and in our top 20 seasons by saves the Quiz, Monty, Soria and Holland take up 17 of the spots. Between the lengthy careers of four players and it being a relatively newer stat this is what you get

  2. You need to win in order to get a save and the royals haven’t done a lot of winning since saves started becoming an important stat
