Pelicans Make A SNEAKY Good Move…

The Pelicans make another sneaky good signing this week as they continue to shuffle their roster around in preparation for the new season training camp and also making some moves in the G-League as well. We’re going to talk about the hell’s latest signing and also bring you some updates on some other signings they made this week inside this edition of Helicas Digest. What’s good with it my people? It’s Shabiva Mels or the mic mels talking about them pels. Back once again inside Pelicans Digest. And thank you once again for subscribing, liking, and sharing the channel with your fellow Pels fans out there. And if you just love the NBA, baby, this is where you get the best analysis about the New Orleans Pelicans opinions and so much more. So, thank you so much for checking in with us. And earlier this week, uh I jumped on and talked about uh a player that the Pelicans signed. Uh and apparently the Pelicans waved them. We’re going to get into that in a matter of minutes. Uh cuz Joe Dumar has been getting busy, man. Say what you want about Joe. Joe is still working. Uh of course, uh earlier this week, if you missed it, Joe Dumar recently, uh made an appearance and gave a speech over at the I think it’s the quarterback club or the touchdown club of New Orleans, uh during their lunchon or dinner or something like that. and uh he came in there and spoke about how he’s building his team, how he’s building his franchise and his team up by establishing culture and also uh taking some pages out of the New Orleans uh the New England Patriots book where he says uh uh you know he kind of made a comparison of what he’s doing to how the Patriots were when they won their dynasty which is basically you had of course you had a generational talent of Tom Brady but everybody around him was good uh and great. He they always stacked him around with great players who understood their role and what they were supposed to do on that team. And you know, that’s great to hear from Joe. Uh but he also made a little statement that that kind of stood out to me. That kind of stood out to me. And that statement uh was we went to we want to be deep. We want to be 10, 11, 12 players deep. So that generational talent isn’t on the court see Zion Williamson for two weeks. We still win. We can’t build a we can’t build a team, especially in professional sports where you’re dependent on one guy. As great as Steph Curry is, their team is great. And again, that’s and this is what brings us to what we’ve been talking about with how they’re designing this roster and how they building up this team. Yes, you got Zion Williamson, a generational talent, but you also know that you can’t really the track record is showing you can’t trust and rely on this guy. And there’s also some instances where you showing that this team can win without this guy. So he’s of course building the roster up and we’ve been about talking about this for months and at live at Nauseium that a lot of people despite the criticisms of what Joe Dumar is doing. I still love the fact that he’s still trying to build up a culture and set up things and he spoke about that in that in that uh uh speech that he did to the lunch and uh if you want to see the video you can go see it. It’s out there on the internets all over the internets right now about Joe Dumar in his speech. I listened to the whole speech. And another thing I found interesting about it was uh he kept saying, “I I I don’t want to be long because I got to get back to the facility. I don’t want to be long cuz I get back with the facility. I got guys working and stuff like that.” They’re still working at this hour. Still trying to get this roster correct and shaped up. And a couple of days ago, uh not even I want to say at least two days ago, I think I want to say Monday or Tuesday, uh the Pelicans, uh signed uh Jaylen Moore, who I spoke about in a previous video. Uh he is the uh uh uh Ford, who was also Jeremiah’s teammate in Oklahoma uh during his time there. And I I learned something new as well about this. The Pelicans signed Moore, but I didn’t know that he was injured. Okay. Moore was apparently injured and won’t be back until possibly January or the start of next season. So once I while that I was like, well, okay, why did y’all sign him then? I mean, I understand you wanted to sign him for the the uh purposes of having Jeremiah here has someone close to him that can help him ease ease him into this transition of his rookie season in the NBA because again is just 18 years old. Uh but then the Pelicans went and weighed them. They signed and waved them. Why did they wave him, you ask? Why did they sign and wave him? Well, apparently there’s a model that I’m just learning about that we can all learn together. We can all learn something new together. The signing wave model in the NBA allows a team to acquire the G-League rights of players who may not be ready for the main roster. The Bellicans recently made a signing wave move by bringing in Jeremiah’s college teammate Jaylen Moore. And uh so that’s why I was wondering why why would you sign him and then wave him? They want to keep his G-League rights. So when he possibly does get back healthy, you you can still do all those things that I spoke about in the previous video. You can put him with fears and also you keep him close to the organization. Well, the purpose is to help with fears. Okay. And also, like I said, you can build and see it develop down the line if these two can possibly be a combination that you can build and work with. So, so that’s an update on that. Also, Johnny O’Neal, the Pelicans also signed and waved a player named Johnny O’Neal. I didn’t have too much information on this cat other than that he’s a 610 forward/c center. Uh who played four years at American University and one year at Santa Clara. Uh and the Pelicans apparently uh are interested in him because of his uh rent protection and his stretch floor his ability to stretch the floor. Can’t get enough of that. We need that. So I’m not mad at that. But they also signed and waved him for the purposes of keeping his G- League right. So, uh, sometime down the line, if the Pelicans want to exercise that option, they can bring them in to the P, uh, the Birmingham Squadron G-League team if they so choose. Uh, so, as of right now, the Pelicans have 20 players, 20 signed players under contract. And today and today in the news that we got in today, I’m pretty pleased about the news that they just released today about a player that they had during their G-League run here in Vegas that I was big on going in. I was big on this guy coming in. I was big and when he got out there on the summer league floor, I was really impressed with his play. And his name is Christian Shoemate. If y’all recall, Christian Shoemate uh went to MCN State, helped MC State into the tourn get into the NCAA tournament. Will Wade and those guys out there did a great job with him. Uh and the Pelicans brought him on to the summer league team because one reason you know he goes to Joe Dumar’s alma mater which is M State and plus the guy the guy’s very athletic. So it was announced today according to the New Orleans Pelicans uh that Christian Shoemade has signed with the team and if you recall during his time in Vegas he was one of the players who stood out most to me for the Pelicans. This is according to Chris Lambert the Pelican brief. His uh his box score averages weren’t nothing crazy, but his impact was huge. He ranked third in the team in rebounds with six uh rebounds a game, which 65 wings speaks volumes about the hustle he plays with. And that’s what I was impressed with the most the whole time he was in summer league. I was a big Christian Shoemade fan. Uh and I did a video about him. Uh, as a matter of fact, if you want to scroll back and go back down the line, I I did a video on Christian Shoemade and what I think he could bring to the table and why I think he would be a great addition to the organization and they went ahead and added him to the organization, which is great to hear. Uh, he’s probably going to uh compete in training camp. We’ll see what happens. But the guy has tons of hustle and uh and another thing, like you said, he was third in rebounds during the summer league. He crashes the boards hard, gets rebounds, and what have I said before about this Pelicans team over the last two seasons? The Pelicans over the last two seasons have been one of the bottom 10 rebounding teams in the NBA. We have lost a bunch of games, close games over the last few years, even in the 49 win season a couple of seasons season ago, we lost a bunch of those games by a point or less. what the difference a rebounding could make in those games if you had players that could crash the boards and get rebounds and secure offensive rebounds. You got Looney, one of the best offensive rebounders in the game now under your team. Uh Sadique Bay was a quality rebounder in his time. You also got E Missy still locked in. You bringing in a a a Christian shoe mate who like again if you go watch his summer league games, he was crashing boards all all the time. He he he was under the he was in that glass facility all the time was snatching up rebounds and giving guys second and third chance opportunities. That’s going to be crucial. You can’t get enough of that on this Pelicas team right now to be honest with you. Zion is capable. Uh Queen is capable cuz Queen had, you know, averages a couple had couple of double double nights as well. uh Makavic is capable, but to add a Christian Shoemate, I think you to have somebody that can you can bring in possibly work into the G-League later on down the line, but also bring him in training camp and give him an opportunity to showcase his hustle. Could have if anything, he has a incredible motor and incredible hustle and incredible athleticism. Big fan of Christian Shoemate and I’m very happy, very pleased to see that the Pelicans are going to keep him in the organization. It’s something I said in the video that they should do. In that same video, I talked about Christian Schumate. I said even after summer league, even though his name, his box scores wasn’t always impressive. I always said that I think Christian Shoemate should have a place somewhere in this Pelicans organization, somewhere we could develop and build with him in some point because the athleticism and that hustle is off the charts crazy. His rebounding is crazy. So, I’m I’m very happy. I’m very happy that they signed him and bringing him on. Um, and of course, big nod to to Joe Dumar trying to hook up, you know, Lake Charles and the folks out there. give them some hope and give him some reason to tune into these games this upcoming season. All right, but uh we’ll see if he can make the team. He’s of course on an exhibit 10 deal just like the rest of the guys. Uh but of course uh if anything they they anything with this signing have retained his his G-League rights. So if if Christian Schum can make it happen and impress and continue to show that hustle and athleticism, I can see him being down in Birmingham and making some noise. What are your thoughts on it though? Clack back with your thoughts on new signing and Christian Shoemate. Jaylen Moore, Johnny O’Neal, they’ve been signed and then waved. What are your thoughts as the roster continues to be constructed as we get ready to go to training camp? Also, big shout out to Jordan Pool. He Pelican social media revealed that he is in New Orleans right now uh and in the gym getting ready and getting geared up for training camp. 1. I think that Shumate could develop into a solid backup. Good athlete with a big time motor. Brings a lot of energy to the court. Thanks for another good podcast, Melz.
