Padres vs. Mets Game Highlights (9/18/25) | MLB Highlights

And with those 10 games left to play, the Mets have a two game lead in the loss column over the Diamondbacks Reds and Giants for the final wild card spot as the Padres remaining two back in the West, an even bigger game for 22 year old Jonah to he enjoyed such success in the minor leagues this year, but he got kicked in the mouth in his last start last Friday against the Texas Rangers. Think about this culture shock. He’s given up 11 runs in his first three starts in the major leagues and the other way, that’s a fair ball up the third base line, Luis now a seven game hitting streak with this one out single in the top of the first inning and the Padres have action in the opening frame against Tong. And last night’s hero Manny Machado stepping up, he’s running. Machado pulls one to left that goes Nimmo and it’s over his head digging for third and the throw to second base and Machado tagged out. I thought that Nimble was going to throw the ball to third, but instead he threw it to the relay man who shuffled it over to mcneil and Machado and easy out at second base. The Mets catch a break there who has powered up lately up to 14 home runs now and Merrills goes down swinging on the curveball and Tom gets out of trouble in the opening inning. Randy Vasquez on the mound today for San Diego. Time for a back to back great outing from Randy Vasquez last time out against the Rockies six frames 25th start twice in his career, Pete has homered in four straight games. He did it once in 2019. He did it once in 2023. He’s got a shot to do it again today and he hits this one deep to center field. Merrill goes back, takes a look and Pete has home for 1/4 straight game number 37 for Pete Alonso, 1 to 0 New York. He’s not only hitting home runs , he’s hitting tape measure home runs on a regular basis. He’s got it going with his home run stroke. Look out 1 to 0. New York as we start the second. Ramon Lorean leads off against Jonah on the outside corner, got him looking at a fastball. I love that. Jone has thrown that fastball with two strikes more. Her takes strike three called another fastball to catch a padre hitter looking third strikeout for Tong two down curveball hit on the ground. Mcneil is right there to play it and that retires the side shut down inning after getting the lead one in New York second time up for to flew out to write his first time two for eight in this series drive to left field down the line towards the pole and the foul ball, the crew chief is calling for a review after that last foul ball. It’s pretty close. That’s pretty close. I mean, it’s not a home run pretty close. Fernando rips this back up into center field on a line and Fernando aboard with one out. That’s a third. Padres hit on the day. Padres get a 380 ft off of a throw and Then a wild pitched to all of a sudden on third base, luis Arra at the plate popped up. Shallow, left in coming is demo. He will make the catch fernando it even so he gets in anyway. I thought no chance he was going that shallow. He does and the Padres tie it up does not have the greatest arm, but that was not one of his best at second straight inning. The Mets have had a leadoff single and now francisco will try to make something of its one into right for a base hit. Mullins will go first to third Tatis off the throw. Machado cuts it off the backhand flip and arrives safely. Liora with aggressive baserunning saw that Tatis had airmailed that throw. Machado did a great job cutting it off and making the backhand flip but Rod safe at second, but the Mets now have 2nd and 3rd and nobody out for Soto infield back and SOTO will get the run in with a ground ball, not only will he get Mullins, but he gets to third. So a doubly productive out for Soto for his 1/100 run bat at the end of the season. And the Mets go in front two to one runners at the corners and one out and into this game is Wandy Peralta in the third inning. This is a point of the game when runners at the corners now you got to shut it down. There’s plenty of baseball left , no doubt. Nimmo blessed one to deep right center goes back, takes a look at it. Brendan Nemo blasts a three run homer number 24 for Nemo tying his career high and it’s 5 to 1 New York. So they bring in Wandy Peralta to face the lefty and he takes him out of the yard to make it 5 to 1 burn struck out looking his first time up. Now he’s retired five in a row and he threw the fastball right by new career high for to with his seventh strikeout has retired six in a row striking out four of the six and five of seven is against. That’s four consecutive strikeouts for joe his eighth of the day ball flied out to shallow left center angling in his mullets side. Jonah Tong has now retired eight in a row. Juan Soto leads off in the home fifth against kyle Hart and juan slugs one to deep right center field back in the gap. That ball is one hop against the wall and SOTO pulls in at second base with a well struck double 61st extra base hit of the year for Juan Soto. Second two down as mcneil steps in, he has flied to right and walked SOTO takes off for third as a ground ball right side, softly hit as a rise will for the out and throw to first time to end the inning and Jonah Tong is out of the game. We will get to revel in a fabulous bounce back performance. Tyler Rogers takes over 5 to 1. New York Machado chops one to third Baty on the charge throwing on the run and he got side retired nicely done by Baty leadoff. Walk is on with SOTO coming up that’s ripped into right field by SOTO. He’s got his second hit of the day is going to continue on to third. This time. Toti showed no interest in throwing across the diamond. So they’re at the corners for Alonso who homered Soto takes off again and Alonso flies this one out to right. Soto is going to have to go back to first tagging at third. Tati’s throw goes to first Soto gets back safely as Lado crosses the plate. Sacrifice fly for Alonso RBI I number 121. Here goes soto and the throw by Fermin not in time, May 20th. That was the last time a catcher threw out a matt trying to steal second base with steal number 33 on the way and a swing and a miss back to back for Marinac to end his seventh inning. One of those grounded out to second and struck out swinging off the pitcher out to short and we will reach, couldn’t catch it and Then be from third base ended up picking it. That’s a leg single for jake and now two away for Fernando Tatis off the pitcher again and out to right field, it’s going to be another hit and heading to third base is so Tatis with his second hit of the day and second time the pitcher soto has been hit, it becomes really uncomfortable if arise gets a hit. It goes, Manny Machado is on deck chopper back to. So this one is easier to handle third time. The char that’s so puts up a zero after a couple of comebacks and now Diaz will try to get the final three outs with a five run lead. Diaz has not pitched since Sunday against Texas. Manny Machado leads off in the ninth against Diaz and he struck him out with the slider. He threw him a slider in the zone, he threw him a slider out of the zone and Diaz fans Machado to start the 9th 12 to Merrill swung on and missed strike three. He got him with a fastball upstairs with the fastball back to back strikeouts for Diaz two men down. So the Padres are down to their final out. Ramon Liano is zero for three today. 2 to 2. Popped it up on the infield Baty waits for it and the ball game is over when Diaz puts on the finishing touches, four scoreless innings for the Mets bullpen after a nice bounce back by jonathan. The Mets somewhat resurgent have now won three of their last four. They take two out of three from the Padres.

  1. This happens every year for the padres. We have a great bullpen in August but are offense slumps and we overwork our bullpen trying to keep us in close games until the BP is injured and no longer elite.
