🔴LIVE 🔴San Francisco Giants VS Los Angeles Dodgers /September 18/ Baseball Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25
an matchup on the show. It’s the San Francisco Giants taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers. First pitch coming your way next. All right, just about set to go. And on the hill for the Dodgers, Yoshobu Yamamoto. Chris, he’s got the ability to take control of a game when he’s out there. Well, incredible mound presence and he’s going to attack hitters. You look at that strikeout per nine ratio over 10 coming into this start. So, he’s a pitcher that wants the ball. He’s aggressive. He knows that he can get the swing and miss, especially when he needs it most. We’ll see how effective he is in this one. Yeah, that’s fouled off. hit hard on the ground to the right side. Fair ball around first and hustling for second and he’s there with a leadoff double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that with a pitch away. That’s exactly what you want to do with it. Drive it the other way. And right there, just barely able to keep it fair down the line for the double. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Devils now not getting the results he’s wanted at the plate recently under the Mendoza line so far this month. Yeah. And here’s a fun stat on Dvers. He’s at his best when he’s hitting homers and doubles. And by the time he was 26 years old, D’s already had over 150 home runs and more than 200 doubles. He’s just the 15th player in baseball history with those kinds of numbers at that age. Freeman takes it to the bag. One out in the top of the first. Now we take a peek at the Giants lineup. And Chris, this group has been struggling to put up runs lately. Well, they haven’t been on base a ton. And even when they are, they haven’t been hitting very well with runners on base. So, they need a player or two to really step up, have some quality at bats, hit according to the situation, and sort of break out of this. I think if they do, the rest of this lineup will follow. Here’s a high chopper. Come on. Come on. Tosses across to first and they get a Damas for the out. Batting fourth, third base, Matt Chapman. And here is Matt Chapman. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. And that one a little below the knees. And that is ball one. Next offering is fouled back. He doubled up on the off speed there. We talk about the power fast ball, but he’s working a little differently here. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Freeman squeezes it and that’s the third out. It’s the Giants nothing Dodgers coming up. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Chavez Ravine and towing the slab in this one, Justin Verlander. And as usual with him singing, I think we can expect plenty of strikeouts. Yeah, Boogie. He’s racked up over 3,000 strikeouts in his career. So, expect to see more of the same in this one. Bottom of the first. Maxy at the dish. Muny measures 5′ 10 in. 34y old vet. He’s usually a third baseman, but today he’s the designated hitter. That is upstairs for ball one. Little bit of a day off for him. Instead of being at the hot corner, he can just kind of put the batting gloves on. This ball is hammered deep center field. Way back there. On its way out of here. And this place is rocking. It’s one- nothing. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. [Applause] Just an excellent swing all the way around and it had that sound coming off the bat that gets everyone’s attention. Got a pitch to drive short to the baseball, squared it up and the backspin carried it out of here. Here’s Muki now. I’m liking what I’ve seen from him at the dish lately. Hitting better than 350 this month. The other way. Ramos makes the play and there’s one down. Time now for Dave Roberts lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is one of the best teams in the league when it comes to drawing walks, Chris. So, we’ll probably see a very patient approach from them. Yeah, Boo. And that’s often uh what leads to a lot of runs scored. You get runners on base. You work that pitch count up for the opposing pitchers and then you take advantage when they make mistakes. You get into that bullpen. You could tell that everyone up and down this lineup just comes in with a great plan of attack, a lot of patience, just like you said. Tay Oscar Hernandez now at the plate as he swings through strike one. [Applause] Drilled out towards left center field, raging back towards the wall. Pulls it in on the warning track. batting for two out, space is empty. Here is Freddy Freeman. Another solid power season. And that misses one and0. Two out. Space is empty. Swing and a ball driven out to center. That’s back and out of here. Oh, muscle to center field. It’s their second home run of the inning and they add to the lead. It’s two nothing. He put a charge into that one. That was a lightning swing right there. No doubt about it. [Applause] A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Here’s a switch hitter Tommy Edmond and delivers outside. Two down on right side. CS gets it to first and they get Edmond for the out. That ends the frame. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working and it’s two zip Dodgers. You’re dialed into the show. All set for the start of the inning. Now it’s the rookie first baseman Bryce Eldridge looking for his first big league hit right here. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across, this is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Just missed right now. Behind in the count, two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. Gary Simmons, our plate umpire today, sort of has a reputation as a pitcher’s umpire. Yeah, a little bit of a wider zone than most, I’d say. And a wide zone can be tough to deal with as a hitter cuz you have to start expanding what you’re looking for, covering both sides. And with the stuff pitchers have today, you’re just not going to have a lot of success. Just missed. on the ground right side and foul ball. The wind to the pitch. This one in the air center field. Pah makes the catch and there’s one gone. [Applause] batting six leftielder Herrarion the next giant to hit popped up right side Edmond and there are two down batting seventh catcher Patrick Bailey Bailey. Patrick Bailey now at the plate. Chris, it’s been a good year for him, having already set a new careerhigh for RBI’s in a season. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. That’s excellent location on the fast ball right there early in this game. If he can do that all game, it should be a good outing for him. Swinging a foul straight back. and ball one. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one, two, don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Swang in a line drive. That’s a base hit into center field. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Good two strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for some. So, that was nicely done to beat the odds. You’ll often hear the phrase short to it, long through it. And that’s a great example of it right there. Got the barrel in the hitting zone early, squared it up with the welltimed swing, and came away with a beautiful line drive into center field. Christian CS at the plate and takes high there. [Music] Next offering is in for a strike. Good zip on that fast ball at the bottom of the zone. If he’s there all day, it’s going to be a tough one for the hitters. Check swing and he went. Now he’s in a one-two hole. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. Third out. That ends the frame. So the Giants leave one. They trail it here. Two nothing. Back here at Dodger Stadium, we head to the bottom of the second. Here’s the left fielder, Alex Call. Verlander back to work. And that one is inside ball one. He’s great hitting the ball the other way. And that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. And another ball call. Started after it. Tried to hold up. Now a look to first. No swing. He held up. Patrick Johnson with the call there. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. That’s in there. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. And that one fouled off. [Music] Cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Andy Pahus stands in now and watches strike one. Pitch is in there. 0 and two. looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone, middle away to the right side and that’s a fair ball. Makes the turn and heads for second. PZ on his way to third. Throw pulls him off the bag and he’s saved. I’m sure he feels really good about that one. Even though he was really late on it, he clearly barreled the ball because that one was ripped down the line. He had to be really short with that swing to not get beat by that pitch. Here’s Kik Hernandez. Let’s go. Late swing fouled off. Hernandez, versatile player, can play all over the infield and the outfield. Runner on at third, one gone. Giants. Foul ball there. Got him looking now. Two away. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. He got three straight fast balls. Looking in the 02 count just to pour it back. At the plate, Ben Wertv. That one’s in there. And that’s strike one. Two outs and a runner, a third. Bottom half of inning number two. That one fouled off. And a swing and a miss. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. So one hit is all they get. We play two full. It’s the Dodgers two and the Giants nothing. back here in LA. Onto the third inning, leading off Drew Gilbert. Oh, Boo. Here’s a nugget on Yoshi Nou Yamamoto. Well, he rarely travels without his tiny fluffy dog, Meikon. Meon is named after a famous mandarin orange from Japan whose peel. That one is absolutely belted and it one hops the wall and that’s a leadoff double. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game. But all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. So the batting order turns over. Here’s Elliot Ramos. Lent off this game with a double right through there for a strike. and he grounds one to the right side. Steps on first for the out. That’s a good piece of hitting right there. It’s early, but you still want to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score. That’s exactly what happens. So, you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat. in the dirt. Well done behind the dish. Swanging a highf fly ball in the air left field. That one back there going gone. He sends one out the opposite way. His 32nd of the year and they throw a pair on the board. It’s 2-2. Wow, what a clutch swing right there. And now anything can happen in this game. Well, he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time. Took a direct path to the ball. Excellent extension and just drove it out of here. Nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like that. Adamus batting for the second time and that’s strike one. Heart of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. [Applause] Ripped on the ground to second and they get a Damas for the owl. Now batting third baseman Matt Chapman. And here is Matt Chapman. Popped out and foul ground. First time through. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. And there’s a ball. I got one ball. One strike. on the ground to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. The Giant strike for a pair as you get another look at the two-run dinger. And we’re deadlocked now at two apiece. back after this on the show as we go to the last of the third. Here comes Max Mudsy. Maxy. One thing with Max Muny, and it’ll be interesting to see what he throws here. He hammers the fastball. [Applause] Just missed. [Applause] swing and a miss. Chased it out of the zone. Two balls, one strike. Next offering misses now. Three and one. [Music] Right through there for a strike. And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Little early on that fast ball. I’m sure the pitcher taking a note. Look for an off speed pitch on this next one. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. 3-2 now. Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. Really good battle right there. And that final pitch probably could have gone either way. He was hoping he’d get ball four. Instead, the umpire rings him up for the backwards K. Here’s Mookie Betts. He’s 0 for one. Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. He’s there. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Now batting right and now Tay Oscar Hernandez fly to center his first time. He’s 0 for one at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Good looking fast ball right there. Surprised he didn’t take a rip at that. I think he got locked up a little bit. One ball, one strike. tied up here in the early going. That one misses now. Two balls in a strike. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Two outs. That one misses. Three balls in a strike. Freddy Freeman would be next if they can extend the inning. And he’s homered already, so I’m sure he’d love a chance to do some more damage here. [Music] Ground ball up the middle on the run. Sends it over to first. Safe at first and an infield single keeps the inning going. did a nice job getting there. Good throw, but very difficult to get anybody on that one as far as you had to go and throw, you know. Yeah, no question. Two outs, runner at first. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Freddy Freeman. Verlander moved to first. [Applause] Down the inside corner for a strike. He had a foul ball. [Music] That just misses ball one. Really good take especially with two strikes. Next pitch misses way outside. [Music] Run around to go. got him looking and he did not like the call. One hit, one left. Three innings complete. We are tied 2-2. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Bryce Eldridge. and that is downstairs. And that’s ball one. Eldridge only 20 years old, a former first round pick in 2023. That clips the zone and it’s one and one. That’s a little bit low. You got two balls, one strike. Ground ball right side. Edmond over to first. That’s the first out in the top of the fourth. Now batting leftielder Gerard and Carnos. Now the left fielder Herrar and Carnosion flyed out his first time. And that is out of play. just missed. [Music] Next offering is downstairs and that one missing low. A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. So, a man aboard now with one away. All over that one right there. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Go ahead. Run on base. Bailey the next to hit. One for one with a single so far. Highfly ball out towards left field. And it gets into the corner, but it’s foul. man at first, one away. That’s off the inside corner. And it’s one and one. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Squanging a ball drilled center field. Pahis under it. Makes the grab for the second out. Now batting second base Christian CS. And up next for San Francisco, Christian CS. He struck out swinging in his first atbat. hit on the ground to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. One left for San Francisco. Score remains 2-2. Bottom four. And here comes Tommy Edmond. Second baseman Tommy Edmond. First pitch misses. You know, these Dodgers showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. Check swing and he went and it’s two and one. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. Fouls one off. Two and two up the middle. CS got him on the offbalance throw and they get Edmond for the out. Now batting left fielder Alex Call. Alex Call will hit next. Struck out swinging his first time. All right, Los Angeles. Close but called a ball. And that’s ball one. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Looked like it was a little bit up. Two balls, one strike cut on and lifted in the air. Ramos puts it away for the out. Two down. A little drop and drive on that swing. Backside collapsing just a little bit trying to put the ball in the air. And now the center fielder Andy Pahes. One for one. He tripled in his first trip. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. And another ball. Close but called a ball. And it’s three and0. And that’s in for a strike. [Music] Highfly ball. on that one. Curling foul down the right side. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Gets off a throw. Misplay doesn’t cost him. Inning over. Dodgers down in order. And this game is still tied at two and two. Back here at Chavez Ravine, we go to the top of the fifth and digging in for San Francisco, Drew Gilbert. Yamamoto back to work and that’s downstairs. Ball one. All these Giants doing a good job of simply getting the bat on the ball in this game and the numbers back that up. One thing that really stands out to me is how they’ve only struck out one time. That’s good discipline right there. And on top of it, they’re producing more than a hit per inning. That one missed. All those numbers mean this offense is really making the defense work by just putting the ball into play. Anything can happen at that point. It’s a leadoff walk and that’s the go-ahead run. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. Back to the leadoff spot in the Giants lineup. Elliot Ramos the next Giant to hit and that’s in the dirt. Way to lay off that pitch down [Applause] and fouled off. [Applause] Here’s the pitch. Runner on the go. And that one fouled off. Runner at first with no outs here. swing and a miss at the splitter and it’s a strike out. Well, that’s the effect of the splitter that you’re looking for on the mound. Really nice pitch right there and had him out in front over the top. I’m sure the batter was thinking he was getting something else. Perhaps a fast ball with a little more straight and vo to it. And here is Devers. He’s already homered here in this one. And a foul ball. Gilbert, the base runner at first with one out. Check on the runner and he’s back in safely. inside. Going to count one and two. Come on, punch him out. And misses inside. Swing and a miss for the strike out. Not in time. He’s safe. So, a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Short stop. Willie Adamus. Willie Adamis stands in as grounded out a couple of times. [Applause] First pitch not close, but a shortstop takes a ball. That one’s in there. Two balls in a strike. [Applause] Just missed. I almost feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. Matt Chapman in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. They had a strike in there. Yamamoto sends him packing. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. And we’re back. Here’s Kik Hernandez. Third base, Kik Hernandez. There’s a strike. You know, these Dodgers just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. They have yet to draw a walk, and that’s a stat that can go both ways. Credit the pitcher or question the offense’s approach, but either way, zero free passes in this one, and that’s making it tough to get anything going. Fights that one away. Still one and two. [Music] fouled off and they’ll do it again. Well, he hasn’t gotten the result yet, but it’s got to feel pretty confident. Three foul balls in a row. He’s right on this guy. And he can’t come up with it. Still fires to first and it’s in time. It wasn’t the smoothest play you’ll see today, but they still get the out. And up next for Los Angeles, Ben Wvet struck out swinging his first time. Swing and a tapper that rolls foul. Drilled in the air high and deep right field. Going back on this one onto the track and he makes the catch. Now batting the designated hitter. Back to the top of the Dodgers order. Here’s Max Muny. He’s already homerred in this game. [Music] And first offering is fouled off. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. He swings and fouls one off. [Music] Liner base hit. So, a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Back against the wall with two strikes, but found a way. Nice line drive to the pull side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. Here’s Mookie to hit. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Oh, you got to give him credit out there on the mound. This outing started off a little shaky, but he’s found a way to settle in and turned this into a pretty good start. Kind of shows you a lot about his mental makeup as a pitcher. And that one hammered and it gets into the corner, but it’s foul. [Applause] Fights it off. He’ll see another swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that’s six Ks for him in this one. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. Five innings complete. We are tied 2-2. Back here at Dodger Stadium, top of the sixth inning. Here’s the third baseman, Matt Chapman. Hard ground ball base knock. now. So, a man on base to start the inning. Oh, no. Waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. Couldn’t get any air under it, but he smoked that ball back up the middle. Timing was just perfect. Got great wood on it and there was just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it. And now, let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. Bryce Eldridge, the next Giant to hit. Fast ball in for a strike. 0 and one. and ball one activity in the bullpen for the Dodgers. Number 80 looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Bond the power lefty up as well. and a count one and two with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Here’s a one, two. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. [Music] Foul ball still a one and two count. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Pitch misses and the count’s even at two with a go ahead run at first and we’re the top half of the sixth. Good job to fight that one off. No, there’s a pitch we haven’t seen in a while. It’s going to be tough on the hitters if he can mix that in whenever he wants. [Applause] misses. Counts full. Three and two. So, here we go. Base runner at first. Could be running on the pitch. He’s got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position, even if it’s a swing and miss at the plate. Strike him out. Swang at a ball popped in the air out to shallow center. He’s got it. And there’s one down. [Applause] And here comes the Dodgers manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Yoshobu Yamamoto won’t go any further tonight. And a pretty decent effort ahead of him. Tie ball game. new arm out of the pen when we get back. Show Oti into the game. And if you dig into his walk rate, his numbers are really impressive. He’s really filled up the strike zone this season. So these batters better be ready to swing the bats. So digging in, Harrar and Kasion, one for two. Show time. Throw over to first and he dives back in safely. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Two balls, no strikes. There’s the strike. It’s a tough pitch. But in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. When she elevates, guys aren’t touched it. hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Oh, that slider wasn’t even close to the strike zone and he got him to chase. That’s just a bad approach right there. Either he was looking for something else and got completely fooled or he was sitting all over the slider and just couldn’t resist the temptation. But man, really expanded right there and didn’t have a chance of making contact with that pitch. Patrick Bailey, the next Giant to hit. And strike one to the catcher. Swing. And this one’s bounced to the ground. That’s out number three. Excellent work out of the Dodgers bullpen there. Heart of the order. 345 coming up. We are tied 2-2. Bottom of the sixth inning. Here’s Tayscar Hernandez. Leading off for the Dodgers. Right fielder Tosscar Hernandez. And he pumps in a strike. Action in the San Francisco bullpen. Spencer Bivvens getting ready to come in for Bob Melvin. Luc Casey warming up as well. [Applause] Swang and a miss. Another O2 count right here. Pitcher just in the driver’s seat. He can go anywhere he wants to go right here. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Make it seven strikeouts for him. dominating strike out there on just three pitches. And that’s what a good power pitcher can do to you. He’s hitting his spots, filling up the strike zone. Sometimes he bats over before it really begins. Freddy Freeman up to the dish and that one upstairs. Ball one. very humble guy and you know on the field off the field and he goes about his at bats in that way Boogie’s you know just trying to stay with the plan and that plan is hit the ball to left center field drive the ball that way let it travel. Yep. And another ball [Applause] on the corner for a strike. popped up to the left into foul ground and it’s caught for the out. [Music] Now batting. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Verlander done in this one and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. So, the Giants with a new pitcher on the hill, Trevor McDonald. He’s making his second appearance of the season. Tommy Edmond at the plate. He’s grounded out a couple of times. Let’s go, Los Angeles. There’s the strike of the knees. It’s 0 and one. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. And that drops in for a strike. And that one got a piece of him. He had him one, two, and he ends up hitting him with a pitch. Alex Call digs in now. Both two in this one. Oh, [Applause] first pitch doesn’t find the zone. McDonald picks over. Edmund back in on a dive. [Applause] Fly ball down the line. Ramos sizing this one up. He makes the grab. That is the inning. So the Dodgers leave one. Score remains deadlocked to 2-2. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now Christian CS Otani goes 6′ 3 in 210 lbs and he was born in Japan. That one at triple digits. Strike two. Man, that was pretty gross right there. That’s out to center field. Pahes on the move. Drops into the glove and there’s one away. Now batting center Drew Gilbert. And now here is Drew Gilbert. [Music] Just missed. swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. So that will bring up the top of the order with one away. Everything came together for him. So impressive that he didn’t get tied up or jammed on that pitch inside. Instead, good quick hands allowed him to get the barrel to it. Just shoot it up the middle of the field for that knock. Go ahead run on base. And now the right fielder Elliot Ramos one for three. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. [Applause] Fouled off. He was late. Ball one there. [Applause] And a pop off right side. Foul territory. Has room and he makes the catch. Good hard fast ball up in the zone right there. They look really good coming in, but so hard to get on top of as a hitter. Raphael De. Raphael Devers up to hit. First offering and it just misses. Well, a mistake right here could untie this ball game. If you’re the pitcher out there, you just want to be a little more cautious. Come on, LA. And there’s a foul ball. Two outs, swing, and a miss. That one at 99. And the count is one and two. Smoke [Applause] to right, but he’s got it. Back here in LA, bottom of the seventh. Here’s the center fielder, Andy Pahes. Pah. That one ripped left field and in one hops the wall around first, heading for two. And a potential go-ahead run stops at second base. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. put a pretty good swing on that one as he drove it out to deep left. Didn’t quite have the right combination of launch angle and exit velocity to get it over the fence, but you’re never going to be disappointed with extra bases. Now, a good opportunity to potentially jump ahead in this game here in the later innings. Kik Hernandez at the plate. And there’s the strike. All one’s the count. Next offering upstairs [Applause] right side. He’s got it. Runner tags at second. You got to be kidding me. And the throw’s offline. Safe at third. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Here’s the catcher, Ben Wart. Ben W. That’s a little bit low. Definitely a strikeout situation right here. Lots of ways for that go-ahead run to score if the ball’s put in play in the infield at the corners. Don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone inside. Almost got him [Applause] with a go ahead run at third here in the bottom of the seventh. [Music] Hit in the air center field. Gilbert on his way over, makes the grab. Runner tags from third. A big run scores on the sack fly and they take the lead in the seventh. There you go. Nice little RBI there. It’s a great at bat. Got the job done. Here’s Muny to hit and first offering is fouled off. Two down to swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. Man, he was really tardy on that fast ball. Great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball. Add some velocity to it on the next pitch. Can’t catch up. Just missing there. And the count one and two. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Swings and misses. Struck him out. One run, one hit, no errors, and nobody left on. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Dodgers three and the Giants two. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Number 80. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Willie Adam getting ready to hit. 0 for three with two ground outs and a strike out. [Applause] The shorts stop takes a ball. The Dodgers bullpen with some action. Blake Trinan looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Swing and a high-fly ball down the right field line. lays out and makes the play. We rarely see a diving catch made on the warning track, but this just shows the commitment that he had to run this down and save extra bases. Outstanding job. Now it’s Matt Chapman outside corner. There’s a strike. [Applause] trying to hold a one-run lead and we’re in the top of the eighth. And that’s off the outside edge and the count is one and one. And that one is inside. And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. And that puts the tying run on base. Always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through. It’s just bigger than your own individual stats. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground ball. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. And up next for the Giants, Bryce Eldridge. And that’s through there for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Chopped on the ground. Edmond throws to first in time. Now two out. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff just like we saw. And up next for San Francisco, Par and Carnasion that clips the corner. Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone. [Applause] And that one fouled off. Very solid inning on the mound so far here in the eighth. Holding on to this narrow lead. This is exactly what they were looking for. headed towards the corner and that’s the third out. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Spencer Bivvens. Pretty tight game. So, they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. And a pitch. Betts the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one. He’s a bullpen arm that keeps the ball in the ballpark, but obviously out of the bullpen you’re looking to limit home runs. Yeah. And that’s why he’s such a high leverage arm. Just doesn’t matter for him. He looks at attacking the zone and attacking hitters regardless of the situation. Hard on the ground to first and he takes it himself for the out. Now batting right fielder to Oscar. And next for LA, Tay Oscar Hernandez. [Applause] All right, Los Angeles in there at the knees. Strike one. Movement in the bullpen. Number 63 getting loose out there. Let’s go. And that’s in the dirt. And it’s a ball and a strike. One out. Base is empty. On the ground to third. Zips it to first. And a couple of quick outs. Now batting first base. Two down. Base is empty. Freddy Freeman now at the plate. Come on. In there and it’s 0 and one. Some hitters are just more confident if they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher. They don’t care if they fall behind 01. One more time. That one not close. And that is ball one. Come on Dodgers. Let’s go. Line to left. Carous it. And that is that. Dodgers go down quietly and it remains a 3-2 ball game. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Lake Trinan. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. Well, one-run game. Now it’s the Giants catcher Patrick Bailey. [Applause] First pitch and he just misses. Swing and a ball lined out towards center. snags it on the run. One away. Nothing instills more confidence in a team than a center fielder who makes a great play like that on the run. They can feed off the energy he brings just from his playmaking abilities. Christian C will hit next. 0 for three in this one. And he takes one right on the black. One, [Music] swing at a highf fly ball to left. Call gets there. He’s under it. Brings it in. Two down. Hey man, four pitches, two outs. That is an excellent base. One out left for the Giants. Drew Gilbert, the next Giant to hit. [Applause] That misses and it’s one and0. Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. And another ball. [Music] Inside. Just missed. Big pitch coming right here. Last thing he wants to do is put the tying run on base, but he can’t groove one either. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. One-run game here in the top of the ninth and the tying run is on base. Second walk of the game for him and he’s been really patient at the plate. A game plan that he’s sticking to. He’s just not going outside of what he’s looking for up there. Runner at first with two away. Elliot Ramos, the next Giant to hit. Swinging a foul out of play [Applause] and a ground ball to first. Steps on the bag himself. Ball game. Well, a real balanced ball game. three-2 score. We saw some hitting at times. We saw some good pitching at other times and I think very balanced. Uh very pleasurable game I think for the fans as well as for us up here in the booth. Watching the execution by both teams was really impressive. They did it in all facets of the game. A 32 final score in this one. Dave Roberts and company celebrate in the dugout. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
