“Ready For Best Year Of My Life” | Rasmus Dahlin Ahead Of 2025-26 Season | Buffalo Sabres

What’s it like for you to be back on the ice with the guys? No, it’s good. Um, you know, we have a big year in front of us and um we have a chance here to to build something really good. Um, we just got to keep keep having a really good uh training camp. We have had a great start. Um, we just got to keep building. How are you after the summer? Uh yeah, I mean I’m I’m in a good place. Um my Steve, my uh my fiance work hard every day. That makes me very motivated. Um so I’m uh I’m I’m good right now. Yeah. Your teammates kind of rallied around you. Uh unbelievable. Uh very supportive. Um, I mean, they’ve they’ve been there for me since since day one. And um, I can’t be more thankful for for all the support we’ve got and um, I I can’t be more um, thankful for how work how hard she works every day. You’re the captain of the team. Obviously, you would check in with any of your teammates for all sorts of things that might happen on off the ice. What does it mean to you the way, like Matt said, the guys have rallied around you knowing that you were their their captain? No, it’s it’s unbelievable. I don’t I don’t see I don’t think uh when this stuff happens um you see each other as a captain or whatever. You just you’re just a human with uh good people around you and um I couldn’t be more thankful and uh for for for all the support. When you look at the moves that have been made this summer, uh, how do you feel about how like the decor has been kind of built up and changed a little bit? I know everybody at the top is still the same, but you add in Kessle Ring, you add in Timonss, you add these guys to the group. What do you how do you feel about it? Uh, unbelievable. Uh, great additions. Uh, everyone can play with the puck. Uh, everybody’s tall. Uh, tough to play against hard. Um, we got the depth, we got the skill. Um, I mean, we want to be uh a good defending team this year and, um, there are some great ads. They’re great, great guys, too. Um, they fit right in our locker room. So, I’m I’m very pumped. There was a lot of uncertainty about what was going to happen with Bo. I mean, what was your reaction to find out that he was staying, signed another deal? I was I was very happy. Um, he’s he’s one of the main guys in the locker room. uh he brings the joy every every day. Uh we all know what he can do on the ice and what he brings to the team. Um he’s just such a big piece of our team and um I was I was thrilled when he uh got signed back. When you guys started playing together in in the winter, you guys I mean had some notable chemistry. Looking back on it now nine months, just why did you guys work so well together when you think about it? Uh I think we see the ice uh the same way. Um, we want to skate with it. We want to control the puck. Um, and I mean, he’s a he’s a he’s a good defender. I mean, he we have good chemistry in the Done, too, and he kills plays and, uh, he’s just such a great skater. Um, and he keeps it simple. Uh, he’s easy to play with. At the end of the day, you’re going to play with each guy of the six or the five other guys. You’re going to play with each one at some point. Do you just play your game or do you pay attention to who the guys with um I mean I’m I’m trying to play my game. Uh but obviously there’s a little adjustments uh from from each and everyone. Um you got to you got to talk to each other and see what everybody likes and um small plays here and there but in general I just try to play my game. What do you think of the defense step from the standpoint of, you know, there’s the top six, seven, but you know, there there’s Jacob, you have Ryan Johnson, Zack Jones is a pretty intriguing tale and it goes pretty deep, but just what do you make of how deep it goes. I mean, it’s as good as it can be. Um, it’s good competition first of all. Um, no one is is safe and uh you got to work hard every day. Um, you got to raise your standards which which gonna make us better. Um, that’s what I’m most excited about. Have you noticed Do you know anything about Zack Jones? Um, he was a pretty good prospect with the Rangers and he played He’s been in the NHL a few years, but do you know anything about him? Have you noticed anything? Uh, yeah. I mean, great guy. Uh, we haven’t known each other for that long now. It’s been a week or so, but unbelievable guy. Um, works really hard. I’ve played against him a bunch. Uh, he’s a great player. Uh, great with the puck, great skater. Um he he always makes the right play and um he’s he’s he’s a great addition to us. You made a reference a second ago. I mean that guy is huge. I mean what have you seen so far just in his ability to skate, carry the puck at that size? Yeah, it’s pretty cool to see uh Kevin and those guys. They like big defenseman that can skate and have a lot of skill and it’s it’s rare. Um, you see Ker Ring, he’s he’s huge, but he can skate, he can dangle, he can make plays, and um, I mean, those guys, it’s hard to find, but we’ve done it. So, uh, I’m happy. I’ve been around you a long time. I know how tired you are losing everything, but Tage and Kessle both go out, they win a gold medal, they won a championship. Now, can they bring that to you guys now? That experience. I mean, Tage might even be more hungry now. experienced that. Can they bring that to you guys now that they’ve experienced that? Of course. Um, but I think it’s just raising the standards every day. Um, I think we’ve had two really good days um of setting the tone of what this year is going to be like. Um, you know, every day is going to be a grind in the gym. We um the small details has to get better and that’s what the winning teams are doing. um every single day you you got to work for for each and every one and um even on the ice uh the little things has to be right every every night and um I think that’s that’s what we just have to uh do this year. Does it help that you now know what to expect from Lindy Ruff? He was new last year and you guys went to Europe. It wasn’t a typical training camp, but does it help you guys you know exactly what he expects from you? Yeah. Um for sure. Um, I think we at the end of last season, uh, we got better and better and better. Uh, we worked together as a team and, um, we dialed it in and we we won a bunch of games and we can build off that and, uh, have a great start. Uh, going to Europe wasn’t, uh, great for us. Uh, so I’m happy we’re back here uh, and having an unbelievable training camp. It was my question. Yeah, Paul can answer, but um how does that help the team having an entire training camp here in the United States as opposed to having to pack up a weekend, get on a plane, get used to a new surrounding? Yeah, it’s, you know, we had uh one game uh in Germany on big ice. Um but I mean, no excuses. We we should we should have done it better, but uh this year it’s it’s uh we have all the chances in the world to work on our game, to uh work on the little things, special teams, um you know, the stuff that had to get better from last year and and we already started. So, um I’m excited. What did it mean to you? Work your teammates put in during the summer. Lindy has talked a lot about it. He said he’s noticed the work. Are you happy with what you’re seeing right now from your the work they may have put in. Yeah, for sure. Um, we’ve done some testing now the the two days now. Um, great results. Um, I’m very fired up that Tommer had such a good uh summer and um he had the best results in pretty much everything. So, when your best player uh lead the way that um that’s a really really good thing. So, um I’m I’m I’m fired up. What did it mean to you to to get recognized by the voters for the Norris? You finished sixth in the voting. I know it’s not winning the Norris, but it’s the first time you’ve ranked out that high. Does that mean anything to you or uh Not really. I wouldn’t say. Um I want to I want to be I want to be better every day and um I don’t think I will ever be satisfied. So, uh that’s my mentality. So, um every day is a grind. How do you feel physically? It seemed like last year, I know, you don’t always kind of let us in on exactly what you’re dealing with, but it seemed like you were battling a lot um at different times. How do you feel coming into camp this summer? Yeah. No, I’ I’ve been able to having a have a great summer physically. Um I’ve been able to um work really hard. Um I uh I showed that on the testing, I I think so. Uh, no. I’m in a I’m in a good place. Uh, and I’m uh I want to have the best season of of my life. So, uh, I’m ready. Satisfaction for you. Sorry. Is part of that the new strength and conditioning coach and the program that he might have you on? Yeah, I mean um we all knew this is going to be a hard training camp. So, uh, they told us you better come in u prepared. Um, which pushed everybody. So, um, standard is is raised. Uh I’m uh that’s that’s what I like. Is there any satisfaction for you to get that kind of recognition from people across the league? The votings and stuff back to the votings. Um honestly, I don’t really care that much. Um I just want to win with the Sabres and um if you do that, good things will happen to you personally, too. So um I’m I’m not really worried about votes and stuff. there’s there’s a lot of things that goes into to that stuff. So, um I just uh I’m not I’m I don’t think I will ever be satisfied with uh any place I get to. So, thank you. Thank you.
