Aaron Glenn Press Conference (9/17) | New York Jets

Good afternoon. All right. Um, when it comes to injuries, uh, one person that I can just, uh, say out right now would be Justin. Um, he’s still going through his protocol. All right. So, he’ll be out. when it comes to Josh Reynolds, Kane, uh Jay Defmell, Jermaine Johnson, um Tony Allen, Michael Carter, we’ll see how that goes with the week. All right, a lot of those guys are trending in the right direction, so we’ll see how that goes. Um good quality opponent we’re going against this week. I mean, obviously a playoff caliber team. Um I have a lot of respect for the players they have on the team. I compete against those players for a number of years. Um, and I really have a lot of respect for this coaching staff and and this is a personal game for me from the aspect of uh I know Todd Bose um on a on a level that’s unlike a lot of coaches uh relationship I have in this league. Um he was my coach from two different teams here with the Jets and with the Cowboys. Um so I le I’ve leaned on him quite a bit uh throughout my coaching um process and he’s been a really good friend. So, and when I say personal, you know, that’s where that comes from. But, um, our mindset going through this week is listen, we’re traveling to go to Tampa to go win a game, right? And that’s where the focus is. And it starts today with us out there out in practice in the meeting room. So, um, we’re looking forward to it. Um, it’s going to be a tough battle. Uh, I know how that team operates. I know how he operates. Um, but again, I don’t mind us to go down to win a game in Tampa. So, any questions? I don’t see on film from Baker Mayfield. Say it again. Uh you’re What do you sing on film from Baker Mayfield? Um tough, highly competitive. Um has a will to himself. Um he’s he’s everything that um that a lot of people like say he is as far as great teammate. Uh he’s a man’s man. Want to be around the guys and you could tell why, you know, those guys gravitate to him, you know. So he’s been doing a really good job for those guys. He’s uh he’s been operating as one of the top quarterbacks in this league lately. It’s quick to rule out a player, Aaron. Was it just Justin hasn’t moved any steps in the line? Well, I don’t want to say that. You know, I just know how these things are and and just to my knowledge, this this will be a week he’ll be out. You me out for practice today, right? Say it again. He’s out for practice. He’ll be out for the game. Um what have you seen from Tyrod in the time that you’ve been here? Yeah, I’m sure you faced him through the years. He’s been around a long time. What gives you confidence in him? Well, it’s no different than what I said earlier in the week when you guys asked me about him, the possibility of him playing. Um, yes, I have competed against him a number of times. There’s an element within him that we also have in Justin that I like a lot. Um, and the fact that he’s been in this league for a long time. There there’s no coverage. There’s no pressure that he hasn’t seen. Um, so that’s why I have confidence in him and and he’s um a very studious person. Um, good athlete. Uh, again, been around this league for a long time. Um, there’s no better player that you would want as your as your backup quarterback than him at this point in time. What What is it? It seems like wherever he goes, he’s like really popular amongst what is it about Ty that? It’s the way that he carries himself. Um, he’s a true professional in every manner that you can think of. um he’s not one of these locker room lawyers. He doesn’t point the finger at himself. Again, I’m gonna go to, you know, thing I like about quarterbacks. He’s not a celebrity quarterback. He’s just he’s just one of the guys. And um and he he presents himself that way to where it’s not just the offense. It’s not just the old line that he has conversations with, it’s everybody within the locker room. So, um it’s easy to uh to gravitate against a guy like that. Yes, he needs practice reps obviously because he missed a lot of time. So making ruling out Justin clarify the situation and then just say Tyrod you got the whole Yes, but he has over 14 years of reps so he’s not new to this. Um with the secondary you have Carter injury deal with an injury. Yeah, I know you um signed him in the practice squad yesterday. What what does that look like to you for practice this week? Just in terms of personality, well, just like I said earlier, you know, we’ll see exactly how the week goes and then we have to adjust accordingly. What is your expectation given the way the defense played last week? What is your expectation for how they’ll bounce back? Improvement. That’s it. Improvement. Any particular areas? I would say this. Um, big ships turn slow. All right. So, man, every day we’re going to chop wood to make sure we get the way we need to get it to. And I’m not expecting this to be just the the wholesale turn of events and things are just going to be like, you know, we’ll be the number one defense in the league. But the thing that we’re going to do, we’re going to focus on those things we have to do to get better and every day in practice, we’re going to end up focusing on that. You referenced uh obviously the choice situation and you know what happened there, especially Campbell’s first year. Just what you know what happened in those situations that kind of could uh help you in this situation with the Jazz? Um, number one, not wavering and really have a belief in what you’re doing. And it wasn’t just with Detroit. We had the same situation in New Orleans. Actually, we was 79 one year. The following year we came back. I think it was 2017. We started 0 and2 and we end up being 11 and five for that season. So, um, there’s a belief that has to happen amongst the coaches and the players to make sure you just stay focused on what you’re trying to accomplish. There’s going to be so many outside knows that have no idea what goes on inside. You know, a lot of these people haven’t even played a down. So, you can’t focus on that. Again, we have to focus on what we’re trying to do. We’re locking arms. We’ll make sure we’re keeping any everything inside and not let anybody infiltrate what we’re trying to do. So, the focus is that for us and we’re going to continue to do that. Is that the same thing you tell the players at this point? Because, you know, guys, who’ve been here obviously been 0 and2 a few times to make sure that they’re not getting too frustrated or anything. Well, this is a new year and we have new players, we have new coaches, so we focus on, man, what we’re trying to do right now. But you’re absolutely right. We do have to talk about that amongst the players and the coaches. Aaron, with with Michael Clemens, forgetting about the penalty for a second, just how did he play down to down just forgetting about penalty? Yeah, there’s there’s um sometimes when people when they don’t see a stat, they they feel like a player hasn’t done anything right, but there’s other things that go on in the game that um that we ask players to do that again that people really don’t understand. So, um, I will say this, man. Listen, we, um, we know exactly what we’re trying to do as a staff. Um, listen, everybody have ups and downs when it comes to playing and the things that we’re asking to Mike to do. Um, he’s doing a a good job at that. You know, does he need to improve? Absolutely. Like everybody else, right? But, um, we know exactly what we’re doing with Mike. Would it be fair to say that with Germaine banged up that Michael could even see a bigger role this week? uh he will see the road we’ve been getting for the whole time he’s been here. You’re trying to turn around a ship. Shouldn’t the run defense be better than 224 yards? Even as you’re trying to change the culture, there’s a lot of work for you to do, but shouldn’t that be better even right at it? The first week we had 53 yards. This week we gave up 250 22 24. Yeah. So, man, that’s what happened in this league. But is that So, you’re talking about one game. Yeah. But it’s it’s 224 yards. Is that ever acceptable even right out of the game? Absolutely not. is not acceptable. Absolutely not. But I will say this, nothing was saying about that when we have a 53 yards. What have you seen from the way the team has responded like watching the film and and what do you want to see in practice this week after, you know, obviously a setback? Just improvement. That’s it. And everything that we do, offense, defense, and special teams, just improvement. Thanks everybody. Thank you.

  1. He does not instill fans confidence. He seems like he does not care for big name QBs as if all of them are 41 year old ex packers. He also seems determined to paint fan or media analysis of his team to nothing more than non athletes who know little about football. For his sake, he better start winning, for Jets fans…uh oh !

  2. same ol jets, new coach same crappy team. bad qb play as usual, bad throws, wr drop passes, defense cant make the stop when they need, secondary giving up big plays, bad penalties. same crap as usual. don't expect much folks.

  3. Continue to be the worst group of beat reporters in the business

3 days removed from the Bills game and still not a single question on Jowon Briggs, who played well against the Steelers and was the best player on the field for the D on Sunday

Not a single question on Brandon Stephens seemingly pulling up early on James Cook’s long TD run…this after AG talked about how everyone hustled and played their asses off

And not a single question on the backup QB situation for Sunday

I assume it will be Brady Cook
    Coach, can you confirm that?
If so, what makes you confident he’s ready for that responsibility – especially given the concern re: Tyron’s own injury history?

  4. That Micheal Clemons answer is insulting to the fans. Makes me sick. Aaron Glenn has lost my trust. I hope he doesn't lose my support entirely.

  5. If youre watching the tapes how can you not see that stephens is horrible?! Play the rookie!!! Stephens is GARBAGE. Seems like the same words each presser smdh

  6. He's not biting the media's heads off anymore for those that care 😂 let him try to develop these guys but in the same token I hope he doesn't fall victim to not recognizing when players can't be saved ✈️

  7. The New York media, Jets content creators, and Jets fan base are goofy AF. During the offseason: (Jets Fans, Jets content creators, and Jets media): 'We're not expecting a perfect season. We know this team is gonna be up and down and sometimes frustrating'. Two games in (Jets fans, Jets content creators, and Jets media): 'The honeymoon's over', 'He's not the man for the job'. Please all of you STFU. Y'all are who makes being a Jets fan unbearable. Jets fans, Jets media, Jets content creators, and the Johnson brothers (Especially Woody) are the reason why being a Jets fan the past 20+ years has been a complete clusterf*ck and a roller coaster ride. It's also why other fanbases laugh at us derisively. Y'all are the biggest fence-riding goofballs out here and I've been a Jets fan since 1974. Just please go somewhere and take a long walk on a short pier. Thank you in advance

  8. The only way to get the stench of losing out of that building is to stop going to games and make Woody sell this team.. until then that stench will get worse

  9. Coach is Delusional. The Defense Stinks! giving up 30 points two games in a row. Fire Steve Wilks. There's a reason why the 49ers with the great defense fired him!

  10. Glenn's quotes are so fucking irritating.
BIG RED FLAG – Do not question the fans intelligence by making up lies about Clemons.
Who in the building is giving this man media training?

  11. Been Jets fan since 1964, I have suffered some major mental trauma as a result. DEFINATLY TIRED OF LOSING !!! I do beleave there IS some kind hex on thisfranchize stemming from Namath. I amhoping AG can brake it somehow. Maybe when Namath dies, he takes curse with him
