🔴LIVE 🔴Toronto Blue Jays VS Kansas City Royals /September 19/Mlb Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25

had a perfect night for baseball on the show. It’s the Toronto Blue Jays going up against the Kansas City Royals. And now, and we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. Kansas City Royals. All right, first pitch coming up. And today’s starter, Daniel Lynch. What do you have on him? Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Ready to go. Standing in is the power hitting second baseman, George Springer. And that’s way high. And we’re underway. First pitch 640. That one missed. Next offering misses and it’s three and0. And there’s the automatic. Clearly taking all the way there in that three-0 count. It was a cookie right down the middle. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. And he deals. Fouls it back with two strikes. Here comes a 3-2. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. And that is low for ball four. And that’s their first base runner of the game. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Nathan Lucas next up for the Blue Jays. That one to first has some trouble with it. He gets the force and now they have a base runner at second. Let’s take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays. They do a lot of things well in this offense, Singy. They control the strike zone. They make pitchers work hard for outs. and as a result, one of the better OBP teams in the league. Well, what I love about it is it’s an organizational philosophy. Whether you go to instructional league, whether you go to spring training, you see these guys even during batting practice when it doesn’t matter. They’re practicing that type of approach. Boo. And when you have that filtering through the organization, even when you call off a player, he steps right in and continues with the pattern that they have established at this level, which ultimately leads to a lot of success. And that’s a base hit. Stop sign goes up at third. Runners at the corners with one out. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. That can be a dangerous pitch if you don’t get it inside enough because as a hitter, you see it coming across the plate the whole way. No problem handling it and putting a good swing on it that time. Runners at the corners here. One away. So up next for Toronto, Addison Barger. You know, you translate on base percentage, it’s basically this. Teams that have a high on base percentage, they don’t make outs at a very high rate. As my buddy Joe Sheen says, OBP is life. Lefty out of the stretch, runners at first and third. On the ground, right side, the throw to second, return throw to first. Got him. Double play. And that’ll do it. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. The Royals will get their chance now in a scoreless ball game. Back here with my pal Singi and getting to start Chris Basset. What do you have on him, Chris? Well, what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a 3 to1 strikeout to walk ratio on the season. So when you consider consistency, the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners, that’s critical in winning games today, especially when teams are depending on the big swing, the home run to win ball games. Mike Ystreky leading things off and takes a strike. swings through that one. Hit hard on the ground to short. One up, one down. And here now the lineup for the Royals. And Singi, you have to think this lefty heavy lineup is ready to eat in this one with a righty on the hill. Eat it is Boo. So many lefties just feel more confident with a righty pitching, giving them that little edge. Doesn’t always play out that way in the box score though. So we’ll see what happens in this game. Bobby Whit Jr. batting with one down takes a strike. One out. Base is empty. And that one sliced foul. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. Two gone now. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. keep him off balance, get him out of there and deal with the next guy. And to the plate for Kansas City, Vinnie Pasquantino swinging a ground ball and it goes just fouled. And that drops in for a strike. This guy’s not wasting any pitches. Hitters got to get into swing mode. This is a good time to expand the zone. Throw something maybe down in the dirt. Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Two out. Space is empty. Breaking ball misses. Down and away. And there’s a ball. Stays alive. Here’s a 2-2 and Eric Summersgill punches him out. That’s a strike out. KC down in order. Scoreless after one. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top of the second now, the left fielder, Davis Schneider. Lynch, 28 years old, a former first round pick back in 2018. And that’s downstairs. And that is ball one. right through there for a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit. And that’s in for a strike. And the count one and two. And that one finds its way through. So a runner aboard to start the inning. Good two- strike hitting right there, Boog. A bit of a lost start for some. So that was nicely done to beat the odds. Got the top of the ball a little bit, but not much. That was hit pretty hard through the infield. So I think he’ll be happy with that swing. definitely generated some good bats speed. And now it’s Daltton Varo. Good power. Not great in the OBP department on the ground right side. And it’s just fouled. That was close. Come on, Daniel. Swing and a miss as he was out front with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Off the plate inside and the count is one and two. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Frasier on the move to the alley. He’s got it. And there’s one away. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. And now the DH Ernie Clement definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. Just missed. hammers that one. Curling down the line and foul. Oh, good solid contact right there. Just a bit out in front of that fast ball. Got to try to stay on that backside just a little bit longer and see if you can do some damage. That one is absolutely belted. That’s down. One hops off the wall. Schneider around third. He scores and they have the lead. He’s in there. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that. But so far, I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. Here’s Andre Himenez. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. That one finds a corner. 0 and one. Clement stands at third with one gone in the inning. That catches the corner. Not close with that one. One and two to count. He’s trying to stay down in the zone, but the hitter just will not chase. Now back in a two- two count, he’s going to have to go to something else to get him out. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. one away with a runner at third here in the top of the second and that’s way high. Three and two now in this situation. He’s trying to get you to pop something up or jam you. That’s a really good take knowing you got an opportunity to drive in a run here. Gets a piece and stays alive. That one out to right. Kaggle Leone moving back for this one. Nabs it. Runner tags for home. He’s in on the sack fly. It’s two nothing. Sometimes all you got to do is your job and don’t over complicate things. Keep it simple. Runner in third, less than two outs. Put the ball in play and a nice job with the sack fly. And now the switch in catcher, Tyler Heinaman. That one catches the zone. That’s strike one. That one ripped but fouled. breaking ball and that got him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Here’s George Springer. He reached out to walk his first time. Inside corner and that’s called a strike. And a good eye there. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. Very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. Fouls it off. Still one and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was in the dirt. Blocked. Next pitch is outside. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score him. And down on strikes he goes. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. But two runs for him and they jump ahead. We go to the bottom of inning number two. Blue Jays two and the Royals nothing. And we’re back. Bottom half of inning number two. And now it’ll be the cleanup spot for the Royals. Mike El Garcia. Garcia. Basset back to work. Clips the corner. Strike one. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. That misses the zone and that’s ball one. Spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another towards first. Guerrero tosses to the pitcher covering the bag. Lead off man retired here in the second. Good sinker low in the zone right there. and produced exactly what he was looking for. Ball on the ground, nice ground out. And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one. And that one pulled foul. Swing and a soft liner out to left field. makes the grab and there’s two out. Here’s Adam Frasier. It’s been a tough stretch for him at the plate under the Mendoza line so far this month. This lineup’s going to have to find a way to make him work a little harder out there on the mound. I mean, he is just mowing him down. He’s settling in. You got to make him uncomfortable. Maybe step out of the box, call timeout, do whatever it takes. two down. Nobody on right back to him on the mound. Throws to first. Frasier retired. Royals set down in order. Royals bats are quiet there. They trail it here. Two nothing. So, a lefty out of the pen, Noah Cameron. Pretty tight game. So, they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Now, here is Nathan Lucas. Grounded out his first time up. And first offering is fouled off and ball one activity in the bullpen. Steven Kick preparing to come on if needed. That one back up the middle and it gets through and the leadoff man aboard. Now batting the first Vladimir Guerrero. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. now one for one with a single so far. Just missed. Kansas City. Swing and a liner. Foul off to the right. Next offering is in for a strike. He swings, floats it into left and foul ball. The one two and a foul ball. He stays alive. Swinging a miss. Struck him out. Pulled the string on the change up. Next to hit, Addison Barger. His home and away splits there. There’s the strike, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. And now it’s even up. Man, at first one away. That one’s in there. And it’s one and two. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Well, interesting. He’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the leadoff single. Back-to-back strikeouts. So, they haven’t been able to move that runner up, get him into scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out. Davis Schneider next up for the Blue Jays. One for one with a single and a run scored so far. Come on, Royals. Royals. In there at the knees. You got this. And it’s fouled away. And that one misses up and in. Now one and two. Good eye in that spot. Really good take, especially with two strikes. in the dirt to second. Pulls him off the bag. So, a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Nobody on defense feels great right now. The pitcher feels responsible for missing so far outside. And the catcher wishes he could have done more to try to stop it. Ruer at second. Two down. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice plate appearance. First and second, two outs. And now Dalton Vo and a foul ball. Now this is in the air down the line. Frasier sizing this one up. And that is that. Blue Jays leave a pair as they’re unable to add to their two nothing lead. Back here at Coffman Stadium, here’s the rookie right fielder, Jack Kaggleó. First pitch misses. And that one cutting but missing down low. And that misses and it’s 3 and 0. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Carter Jensen steps in for the Royals. He’s done a great job making contact recently, working on a fivegame hitting streak. Yeah, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important getting back into this ball game. That one in the dirt and that’s ball one. Kaggle Leone on it first. Nobody out. a little out front there as he swings through it. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. And he pumps in a strike. And that one off the outside edge. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. lined into right, makes the grab. One down. Man, that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. So up now for Kansas City, Michael Massie inside and it’s one and0. Swung on. Belted. That’s back. Wow. That one’s over the party porch and just shy of the fountains. A home run and they tie it up. It’s 22. Listen to these fans. This place is absolutely buzzing right now. You can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth. Just an excellent swing all the way around. And it had that sound coming off the bat that gets everyone’s attention. Got a pitch to drive short to the baseball. Squared it up and the backspin carried it out of here. Here comes Mike Strremsky to the plate. Pitch misses. Ball one. just missed. Bassid maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run, Chris. Yeah, it seems that way. You know, pitchers, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitched. They’re not trusting their stuff. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? They’re all partner. Every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show. Uh so perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken up, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. One down. Base is empty. Battling here as he fouls it away. Good battle here. about to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Outside low and a full countdown and he grounds one to the right side and foul ball. Can’t connect on the curve ball. Struck him out. Got away with that curveball. No doubt about it. It passed right through the heart of the strike zone and he just couldn’t get the bat on it. When you strike out on one like that, that’s when you start having conversations with yourself and they’re not usually very friendly. Now here’s Bobby Wit Jr. went down on strikes his first time through. Inside just missed. And that’s just foul. Swing and a miss. And he got him to chase. fights that one away. Still one and two, two outs. Swing and a miss and he struck him out. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Just one hit in the inning, but it was a big one right here as it ties the ball game. Two- two game. back after this on the show. Welcome back. And now on the mound to start the fourth, Taylor Clark. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. He tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Ernie Clemens digs in now. He tripled and scored his first time. Come on. There’s a strike at the knees. Go and swing and a high-fly ball right field. Makes the catch for the out. One down. Now batting short stop Andre. And the batter will be the short stop. Andres Jimenez drove in a run with a sack fly his first time up. That one finds the zone. Strike one. All tied up. Top half of inning number four. Strike two. Yeah, I don’t think anyone’s got good numbers swinging at pitches in that location. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Fast ball is outside. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Bell just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there. And I don’t think he was taking it thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. And now Tyler Heinaman outside low ball one and a swing and a miss. It might be time to choke up a little bit. get that front foot down early, maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. Finish him. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Two down. Nobody on. and then misses off the outside edge in the air pretty deep out to center field. Yensky moving under it. He’s got it and that’ll end the inning. We go to the bottom of the fourth. All even, two apiece. Back here in Kansas City, bottom four. And now the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. Pasquantino, swings and pulls it foul to the right side. Well, these Royals showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. Ripped to short, whips it to first. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. Digging in, Mike Garcia 0 for one. He grounded out to first his last time. And that one’s a little bit low. And that is ball one. Swings through that one for strike one. On the ground to the left and it stays fair. can’t glove it cleanly around first heading for two and he’ll reach second with one away. Turned on it nicely. Definitely a little out in front of the pitch, but he didn’t hook around it too much and was able to keep it fair down the line. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position. And next is the designated hitter, Salvador Perez. That misses off the outside edge with the go ahead run standing at second. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That’s off the inside corner. Two and0 movement in the Blue Jays bullpen. Louisie Varon getting loose out there. Fiser getting loose as well. the zone and it’s two and one. Fouled off down the right side. That one not close and it’s three and two. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Garcia the runner at second with one away. Swinging a chopper. Barker zips it to first and they get Perez for the out. Yeah, that was a wasted RBI opportunity, but competitor like him, he is looking forward to making up for it in his next at bat. Adam Frasier steps in for the Royals. He’s 0 for one. That one finds the zone and it’s 0 and one. And that drops in for a strike. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. He’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Two outs and one in scoring position. Next offering is downstairs. One ball, two strikes. Fast ball right back to the mound. Throws to first in time. That’s the third out. Inning over. Royals leave one. Score remains 2-2. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Lucas and compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. Here’s George Springer to start it off. He’s a big strong guy. Can untie this game with one swing. way high. He really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the zone. He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this. That’s a nice miss right there. That’s down and in. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 20. He’s put himself in a really good spot. Let’s go. That one in triple digits. Cold night like tonight, last thing you want to do as a hitter is get jammed or even off the end. Trying to find that sweet spot on the bat. Tell you what, you’re going to be trying to catch things out front. So, off speed pitches may be a good compliment to that fast ball. Fights it off. He’ll see another in there. Sets him down on strikes. Went back to the fast ball and it was effective. Fast ball inside just freezes the hitter. I don’t think he was ready to pull the trigger. A lot of times hitters are looking away and that one locked him up. Now the number two hitter, Nathan Lucas, one for two. There’s a strike. Sliced hard but fouled down the left side. this to third. Tosses to first and that quickly. Two away. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Here’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. If you don’t get ahead in the count, you can forget about having any success against him. Oh, that stings right there. He was just one out away from going back to his seat in the dugout, but instead he’s going to have to face another test. Hopefully, he can forget about the one that got away. Boo, have you forgotten about the one that got away? And next will be the cleanup hitter, Addison Barger. Go for two in this one. And that one fouled off. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get into scoring position and fouled off. Two outs. Got him swinging. It’s a strike out. pulled the string on the change up. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth. taking over on the mound. Louis Varon. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him. Now into the ball game on defense. Ty France. He takes over as the new first baseman. At the plate, Jack Kaggle Leone. He walked and came around to score his first time up. fast for a strike. Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone. Just missed. Great take right there. Showed some really good discipline. Breaking ball coming in. You see it well, but don’t trust that it’s going to hang on for a strike. Nice job. And that’s in the dirt. swings through that one out in front that time. Filthy change up right there. Just pulled the string. Swing and a drive. This one is crushed. No doubt about it. And here in the late stages, they have the lead. He shoots one out to right. his seventh home run of the season. And now they’re out in front. It’s 3-2. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. Carter Jensen steps in for the Royals. Swings through that. Var 61 righty 205 lbs and they traded for him earlier this year. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. Now the throw to first on the run in there safely. Man at first, nobody out. Here’s the second baseman, Michael Massie. He’s already homered in this game. rolled to short. Could be two. Quick feed to second for one. And they get him easily at first. It’s a double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. Mike Ystreky up here. Fought off foul. Two down. Nobody on. Off the plate. Ball one. Back door breaking ball just missed right there. And boy, umpire didn’t give him the call. I bet you if he throws it again, hitter knows he’s going to have to swing it. And strike two, Bell. And those hitters count sometimes can be a little too aggressive and a good pitcher will play off of that. He’s got to get a better pitch to hit. Outside corner got him looking. The Royals get a run in the inning on this solo homer. It’s now a 32 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back now. And on the mound, the closer Carlos Estz, he’s clearly their go-to guy in this bullpen to finish out ball games. Looking for his 40th save of the season right here. So, he’s been excellent. Hard hit right side and he handles it himself for the out. Those plays can be tricky. They’re routine, but that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be smooth. He delivered a good play right there. And now the center fielder, Dalton Vo, swanging a ball drilled center field. Yensky has this one sized up and it’s caught for the owl. So, it’s their last chance in this one. Stepping in, Ernie Clement. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. Swinging a foul straight back. Blue Jays down a run. on base and keeps it going. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. Two outs, runner at first. Now it’s the shortstop Andres Jimenez. And that one fouled off. Right now they’re looking for something. Hit hard into the gaps. give them an opportunity with two outs to score that run from first. All right, Kansas City and that is out of play. The Blue Jays down to their final strike. Foul ball still 0 and two. That one missed. Was good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Almost got him. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Lifted to left. And this should do it. And that’ll do it. The Royals hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game. We’ve grown to expect him to just roll in the games and simply close them out easily. And he’s made it look very easy at times. And now he’s up to 40 saves for the year.
